@@MYT-Ixewhy all the judging... adjusting to that massive change in diet and keeping an eye on ketone levels is difficult and a challenge itself, while avoiding plastic and other aspects you mentioned are very important, everything has its time and place, I can imagine after a while they will have more peace of mind and can focus on fine tuning other questions like avoiding plastics etc.

There are many people who are huge proponents of keto, who do not buy or promote any processed products. Keto is versatile and it's actually much better to stick with simple, whole foods than it is to eat processed keto snacks. Exogenous ketones also are totally unnecessary.

I have major depression and psychosis. I remember when I was eating fast food and lots of carbs, I had a miserable life: My mental illness was skyrocketing...crise after crise. I started to improve when I did a paleo diet with intermittent fasting... but when the pandemic started I felt very stressed and ate lots of bad food- high-carb food. I went more de 4 times to the hospital during the pandemic and in the end, I was obese because of medication too. Today I came back with a kind of keto-paleo diet because I can not afford a dietitian yet that agrees with keto here in Toronto. I have been more than 2 years now having a normal life and away from the hospital. I am still on medication but is low dosage and I am very happy with it. My doctor said there is a big chance to take the medications off in the future. Thank you so much for sharing. Diet is really powerful. :)

@Paulanilsmei89 were you able to lose alot? I gained like 100 pounds on psych meds. I'm switching to vraylar I heard it's not much of a weight gainer. I gained alot because of eating carbs and high calorie things too. I'm glad there's some hope for me. Especially considering the fact that I'm young.

@@EyedentifiedTarot Yes, I was able to lose weight(I lose 25 kg in 10 months), but I really need to restrict the carbs to almost nothing. My doctor is currently testing Rybelsus, a medication for weight loss and diabetes, but it did not help when I was eating carbs. It is a kind of expensive medication because in Canada it costs 300 dollars for one month. I also saw on the Metabolic Mind TH-cam channel that they are doing research on Rybelsus that may help with mental illness, but I believe this medication can help because it reduces the amount you eat and puts you in a kind of fasting state. It also helps with insulin. My doctor recommended Rybelsus because I was struggling with my hunger with Invega. Rybelsyus has some side effects: the food will stay in your stomach for hours, and if I eat late at night, I am not in ketosis because of that. It can also cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation, but with this medication, it is easier to restrict carbs.

Nobody said keto leads to an eating disorder. People said they were concerned for her because she has had an eating disorder in the past and counting macros and calories and fat MAY be triggering for people with that past history. Keto is a restrictive diet and eating disorders often are centered around restriction. She looks thin and that's why people made the comment - not because anyone thinks keto can lead a healthy person to have an eating disorder.

Me and diets don't mix. I wouldn't be able to do what you are doing. All the measuring, etc would drive me nuts. I'm a rebellious person by nature and I don't do well with very restricted type diets. I suffer from severe depression/anxiety. I know I need to eat better and exercise, but it's so hard to do when you are down in the dumps. I admire you. You're very proactive in your care. I've been adjusting my meds for the past 2 years. I've managed to come off some medication, but actively reducing doses on some. It's been pretty brutal. If you need to store Avocado, you can put one in a cup of filtered, spring water that suspends the oxygenation and they last longer. Just try it and see how you like the results. Just a suggestion. I've done it and it's pretty good. Make sure it's completely submerged and if you do multiple in the same glass or ceramic container let me know how it turns out because I haven't tried that yet. Can you have Raw Cacao Powder? You can wean yourself off Coffee that way. Just replace with Homemade Cocoa. If you can have it. I think what you're doing is Great! You are very driven which I find amazing. For anyone interested in "dipping their toe" into lower-carb, low-sugar eating to see how it feels, there's some good recipes in The Candida Cure Cookbook by Ann Boroch. I bought this book when trying to cure a months-long yeast infection that wasn't responding to oral medication. The candida diet is a bit different from keto and still has some grains, but would introduce examples of nourishing foods that are keto-adjacent. The soups in this book are especially good and I still make them years later :)

If you can switch from whole rotisserie chicken to just chicken thighs, it will probably increase the fat content of the cauliflower chicken bake quite a bit. You'd have to bake the chicken yourself, but in my opinion it's worth it. You can also leave the skin on, crisp it up and season it, and chop it up into the bake as well for added fat.
You may already know this also, but it looks like you drank your coffee black. If you add something like butter or heavy cream into it that can increase your fat content for the day without having to eat it, which can be nice.

But I do have experienced what you said in the end, that I have developed a better relationship with food. I fast pretty often without really using too much discipline and feel like when I eat, I can just satisfy my appetite since I naturally dont binge when I stick to keto foods.

What app do you use? I'm starting the diet for my son to help him live better. I'm very familiar with this diet but at first I would like to control his intake more accurately. Thanks

Try butter coffee, add about 20-30 g of butter to a cup and blend with a hand mixer. It's amazing 🥰

Hi Lauren, I would love to know what app you are using to measure your macros? I intend to begin this intervention for my schizoaffective disorder. My dad has already begun keto for wait loss but does not balance his food intake he’s mostly eating meat. I would like to introduce this app to him to help him in his journey, as well as use it in mine.

🥰🥰🥰🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 Have you tried soy products such as edamame, tofu, tempeh soy curls and also konjac noodles? Soy is a great protein source and makes great meals. You could make a pad thai with coconut milk/cream, konjac noodles, low carb veggies. I’m a keto vegan and love that pad thai.

    Questions:
--Have you lost any weight on this diet?
You seem slim to me, so hopefully not.
--Can one that has to be gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free (including coconuts) do this diet? Cheese seems to be a main component, and I just cannot do dairy.
    Thanks.

Keto does make you buy a lot of high quality food. Like macademia nuts. When else would you eat so many nuts and coconut. High in calcium and magnesium too.

To give viewers an idea how strict Lauren’s daily carb intake is, one packet of a typical brand of dry hot chocolate mix has 23g per serving, 3g over her limit.

As a caregiver of someone with schizophrenia I can see this diet wouldn’t be possible for a lot of people, as they couldn’t possibly follow it. These products alone are very expensive and out of reach for a lot of people like my son, good luck to you however.

mct oil is very effective and not particularly expensive. Ground beef, eggs etc. These get you a long way on this diet

I don't eat any manufactured "keto" products/treats, but I weaned off sweets years ago. I mostly eat just beef mince (ground beef), eggs, mushrooms, and butter (all together in a "scramble"). I have found some pretty cheap MCT oil with 60% C10 and 40% C8 here in Australia (Coco Earth Juggernaut Mct Oil, 20 AUD for 500ml). I have that in coffee or just by the spoon.
