You finally found the right bug to go along with your routine. Be careful and stay away from the keto withdraw sugary muffins, it might completely destabilize your mind. I can see how tampering with your own food might help with a poisoning delusion you might be experiencing commonly. I hope the best for you and stay healthy.

I've been struggling with schizophrenia for 3 years and not one med put me into remission. I don't know who needs to hear this but I started taking them yesterday and immediately, all my brain fog, all my anxieties, all my delirium, all of my symptoms are so negligible that I believe this is going to be permanent so long as I take them with my Seroquel and Prozac every day.
      For help with schizophrenia:
      Vitamins B6,B12
Mushroom complex(reishi extract, cordyceps extract, lions mane extract)
      Omega-3
Take these once a day and issues with memory, anxiety, general brain and heart health.
Also COVID causes vitamin b deficiencies as well and I think that's why there's so many mental health conditions attached to COVID.

Essentially, this emphasizes the importance of treating medical keto just as seriously as medication. Experimenting with it or straying from your clinician's advice really isn't a good idea with medication, and the same goes for medical keto. Thank you for sharing!

Good point and I brought this up with my SO. There could be any number of things going on here and I think by not heeding her doctor’s advice should serve as a lesson to viewers. Perhaps they thought it could goose the channel; perhaps her body’s quick positive response to Keto was informing, but I doubt they treated this as a stunt.
      Curiosity, with CAUTION.

Hang in there, my sister in schizoaffective disorder. I know too well how rough psychotic symptoms can be, and how unsettling a sudden spike in them can be (I'm currently almost six months into the middle of my first psychotic episode that's made it out of the acute phase - it's also the first time I've ever been medicated with antipsychotics following a mid-30s late diagnosis).
That feeling of vulnerability when you realize how narrow the margin of error is... that's completely valid, and working through those feelings is important. Remembering not to dwell on them too much and trying not to sit in them/unpack them during an uptick in psychotic symptoms can be really, really difficult.
Rest as well as you can, and update us soon. 💜

So sorry you two had this experience. I see that the brand you used has sucralose and "natural flavors," both of which can cause the sugary taste and raise glucose levels Lately I have discovered "natural flavors" can include maltodextrin and other sweet-tasting substances which do not have to be revealed on labels if the amount used is below a certain threshold. I hope this possibly explains your responses. I love hearing your story and life-changing results from ketosis.😊

    • @flingonber
      @flingonber 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

A couple of things: maltodextrin is a carbohydrate and does raise glucose levels, but has to be explicitly labeled on ingredient labels (it is not considered a natural flavor), and sucralose (according to the Mayo Clinic) does not raise glucose levels. Both of them do taste sweet. Some of the confusion about sucralose is because the specific consumer product *Splenda* is composed of a small amount of sucralose and a large amount of maltodextrin, so it does raise glucose levels (because of the maltodextrin, not the sucralose).

    • @MellowJelly
      @MellowJelly 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

sucralose is gross and I bet our brains can react to it the same way as sugar because psychological impressions can be so strong in some neurodivergent people it can cause a physical reaction

I had some bad episodes when using sports products on my mountain treks. Since then, I try to avoid all "magic" products like tablets and powders which promise to make me superman. The truth is there's no better source for nutrients than real food. Without side-effects and damage, if not abused.
Also, pushing the body too much can be harmful, and I learned that the hard way, getting into severe burnout because of pushing myself to do more than I actually could at that time, skipping sleep for work, ignoring food & water & other basic needs... Took me years to recover and it left its marks. Ands yes, that contains ketones, but I don't know if there are enough studies regarding how they are digested and what they turn into before transitioning to the bloodstream or what happens with them in the liver.
However, you were courageous enough to do this experiment, which I wouldn't have ever done and actually proved that they can be very unhealthy, which is very valuable information. I hope your video gets to as many people as possible.

Getting knocked out of ketosis is such a hard thing when you’re mental health requires a higher level of ketones and lower level of glucose in your blood.
I had a similar discussion with my partner a few months ago. Unfortunately, my downswing was harsh and lasted a bit longer until I was back in ketosis.
Treat this diet as seriously as you treat taking your medication or as seriously as you make sure you get enough sleep.

For the sake of yourself and your family it is important to discuss changes with your psychiatrist. I commend you for doing that. Medication levels take time and decreases should be monitored by a trusted psychiatrist.
I'd like to share my insight as a daughter of a mother with schizo affective disorder as it was really hard on us kids to go though all the ups and downs. Stability is essential for the health of the whole family. Long term trauma from my mother's illness and my father's inability to be everything to everyone (desire to keep the family together and my mother denying help and fighting with us) sadly affected us permanently. The early years are formative for a childs development and kids need a lot of love and attention. I wish I had a stable parent who was present but I was passed around to other family, alone with an unwell parent or home with a loving stable dad who was distracted and working hard to keep us afloat. I share this to offer that additional perspective to consider.
I see in you some refreshing insight in your illness, ability to discuss it and a determination to listen to doctors. Please try to work fighting the temptations to try other things instead focus on balance for your family.
Later in I became a parent and I learned first hand what it is like to deal with impairment. I had PPP after my second child birthed just before the pandemic and it was hard to do but I took my window of insight to seek help meaning hospitalization. It was so hard but important for myself and my relationships and I knew early intervention had better outcomes. It also gave me compassion for experiencing both sides of living with an unwell parent and being a mentally unwell parent. 10 days later I was back to cuddling my baby and I do not regret it.
Please keep up the good dialogue and all the healthy things you are doing and when you reach a balance stick with it. You can improve your life but you can also improve your families life and relationship long-term by providing stability. The advances in medicine have come so far. My mother finally was a healthy part of my life for the last yr of her life as a grandma when she accepted her illness and allowed the drs to give her weekly visits and injections to stabilize her medicine levels and reduce the urge to go off meds again. Previously she hit rock bottom which included jail, periodic homelessness, and finally a year in a high level mental health facility to stabilize. It was scary and heart breaking. As a kid one day mom is home when we get back from school then at night mom shaves her head, mom cooks dinner then mom runs down street naked, mom gets groceries then we quickly leave the full cart cause ppl are following us, mom is tired then mom is chasing dad and throwing things at him for trying to help her take her meds, mom takes us to church mom yells at me to run cause Satan is here, mom says no hugs cause hugging is incest, mom says she is fine and we are the problem, mom finally takes meds and sleeps for days and we pick up slack and walk on egg shells waiting. For a kid each time the levels are good or off it is uncertain. As we know re-establishing levels takes longer to achieve and sometimes it take higher doses. The injection method was easier for my mom and she wished she did it sooner. The new meds gave her insight and ability to cope with minimal symptoms. Its sad the journey it took to get there but we know schizo affective is difficult to treat and I treasure that my mom faced it and gave healing to us all.
I understand people have different experiences and I share from a place of kindness to add to the discussion for the sake of children. I hope others read this with that in mind.
I really admire your courage and see many lovely qualities in your family. I hope your this plan helps your metabolic health improving your overall health so you find what works and stick to it. Enjoy your beautiful family. Wishing you all good things.

I learned something interesting while i had a shoulder injury. If i had any inflammatory foods i would get the worst migraine of my life (which was weekly for 2 years). I thought i was prone to migraines for a while. But my injury was directed related. So it made me very aware of foods that cause inflammation. But one day i went to a Chinese medicine doc and she completely fixed my shoulder. It was crazy because it only took one session. Pain id had for 2 years was gone and i no longer got migraines from trigger foods. My point is when you have an "injury" it cant really handle "bad" food like the rest of the body can. It flairs up quicker ir at least the concequences are more immediate. Maybe schizophrenia is akin it a brain "injury" of sorts. I don't want to use that word but im trying to make a point how when we have a "weak point" it needs extra care to be ok.

Glutathione levels are much lower in schizophrenia. Tgf beta acutely depletes glutathione from cells. Tgf beta is produced in hyperglycemia, by the kidney, and is implicated in diabetic kidney disease. So it's possible that a blood sugar spike kicks off tgf beta which then depletes glutathione, resulting in psychosis.
Also matches: tgf beta lowers glutathione causing lung disease. Tgf beta increased in iron overload. Tgf beta lowered by agmatine. Nicotine increases tgf beta. Cannabis psychosis linked to glutathione/tgf beta

Hi there, I so appreciate your channel. I have been wondering for a while, if people are aware of the dangers of Ketones in light of those who have Type 1 Diabetes like my son? For people like him, we do everything in our power to avoid Ketones at all costs, which we were taught at diagnosis 12 years ago. Ketones are often also how people are diagnosed initially with Type 1 Diabetes. The most dangerous is when a person’s Ketones are so high, they go into DKA. This can actually lead to death, more rapidly than one might expect. If not understood or treated in time. Fruity breath, weight loss, faintness, unusually frequent need to urinate, extreme thirst, weakness, dizziness, fatigue, stomach pain, glassy eyed look, all those are symptoms associated with Ketones.
I know my son, and all Type 1’s, feel very very sick within hours when they have Ketones. They can get them from simply fighting a virus, or high blood sugar, or insulin pump failure. We then have to adjust with extra insulin and other treatment protocols until all Ketones are gone. Type 1 Diabetes i very different from Type 2. It is an auto-immune disease not caused by poor diet/ exercise and cannot be cured. One needs insulin injections or insulin pump 24/7. I’ve been debating to share, because I know your journey is not about Type 1 Diabetes; yet again it felt too important to not give a mention, just for safety’s sake. I really admire your honesty about your challenging but inspiring journey living with Schizophrenia- and I wish you nothing but love, kindness and support. Thanks for listening 💖 -Saskia

It is known to raise glucose levels and insulin in the body which explains why your glucose levels were much higher than usual, although 120 is still not considered dangerously high. This also explains why you were feeling extra anxious/weird and very tired the next day. You basically experienced an unexpected sugar high and crashed. I know a lot about this topic being in the medical field and suffering from Generalized Anxiety and Panic Attack disorders along with a few other mental disorders/illnesses. Although I am advised to stay away from Caffeine I find artificial sweeteners like Sucrose and Aspartame ( phenylalanine) to be even more dangerous! I hope you are feeling much better now, but please promise never to take that stuff again!

This this this. There appears to be not enough regulation when it comes to certain ingredients or proper testing of them - esp when it’s part of a lucrative industry. We need to be careful and know that while many may be able to tolerate a certain level of toxicity within our bodies, there are many who cannot. And that’s ok! Except no one is looking out for those exceptions to the rule, so we have to do it ourselves. Or for each other.

I'm Bipolar type 2, and everytime I do keto I get rapid manic episodes, losing weight can be tough because of this. I've found a happy middle ground while trying to lose weight post partum, I'm on my typical meds butttt I just lowered my bread and pasta intake, I can have rice and fruit and veg just not the others. I also limit red meat because that also triggers it, and stick to a good sleep schedule ❤

I have learned the hard way that some body processes take months or even years to change. It is certainly not a good idea to do too many changes in a short time to boost the effect. I fully believe that your diet has an effect on your mental health - but if you believe in this effectiveness one should really avoid such short term stunts.

It might also has to with the fact that the ketones produced internally are regulated at all times by your body's metabolism, while taking an exogenous amount of ketones might have taken your metabolism out of balance and so your endogenous ketone production made halt to try and restore it. Thank you so much for the information that you are providing and I wish you all the best.

I struggle a lot with my own brain chemistry (different challenge), but I want to go back on Keto (it was helpful but not sustainable last time). This is why it tasted so sweet. Sucralose which is in your drink is derived from sugar through a multi-step manufacturing process that selectively substitutes three atoms of chlorine for three hydroxyl groups on the sugar molecule. This change produces a sweetener that has no calories, yet is 600 times sweeter than sucrose.

Seriously. The most simple explanation is reducing med intake. It's concerning to see so many people with this or a similar mental illness, or family members, being so skeptical of psychiatric treatment (like it's bad) and blaming sugar or whatever for a near-psychosis experience.
This channel is almost serving misinformation and not caring about how it affects its audience.

I agree. Is there any actual peer reviewed evidence for this? It seems like a fad diet and I have seen people trying to keto for various reasons - it does not seem to end well for any of them. I have always loved this channel for it's scientifically based information and was really alarmed at the idea of replacing medication with a diet change essentially - my aunt has so often tried to push supplements amongst other "natural* approaches, but it just does not work for mental illness. I have bipolar and if I had tried to swap out my meds for something like this, I would probably no longer be alive.

I've noticed that people have different things that can get them ok without meds. One dude went to a spiritual healing center, was fine after that. I had to completely flush my system with water, fruits, go a dif direction w/ my job, visit some graves, travel, all sorts of stuff, - but I have slowly been getting out of this cyclical hospitalization. I have also found sometimes it's people in our lives that we need to get away from because of various reasons. Health also definitely was a factor, I checked out things like Bacopa Monnieri, Cordyceps, etc. Also, swearing a lot helps until you get the frustrations out. I find if we keep ourselves from full expression, there's unresolved feelings. Negative outlooks are blown out of proportion, and can be useful if leveraged to analyze things.

If your medication is too heavy it makes you dull and you are not able to deal with your problems and you are constantly depressed and in conflict. If it is too light then these problems overwhelm you and might go into psychosis.
The problems might also be spiritual, you might look for troubles for some reasons and need to readjust your view of life, expect a good outcome to events

I have also switched diet to primarily carnivore, dairy, eggs, etc mainly due to being affected by psoriasis - Now 1-2 months in.
Why all the sweeteners and artificial additives ?? I find my hunger much more easy to control, and I feel/see my body not reacting well to them.
So I just made a choice - an easy one actually; Avoid it if at all possible. Yes, things aren't as sweet - but sweet isn't the only taste one can enjoy.
I found that UHT treated milk/cream is much sweeter than normal pasteurized - so if coffee NEEDS to be sweet, the caramelsation during the UHT process provides that bit of extra sweetness (which is probably why so many does not like the taste of UHT milk to begin with - it's sweeter)
So do youself a favour - drop all products containing sweeteners and artificial - possibly unlisted and unknown - artificial compounds.

Artificial sweeteners don’t have calories, but your stomach has “taste buds” sort of. And it can taste sweetness, even in the absence of normal sugar carbohydrates. When your stomach tastes sweetness, it prepares your digestive system for carb digestion processes. So it sorta makes sense it pulled your digestive system away from ketogenic digestion.

I’ve done a lot of research into the vegan diet like you have keto. I now take B12, D3, Omega 3 algae oil tablet and have vegan protein powder in my smoothies. I will say that I cut each meat out individually over years so my gut microbium adjusted gradually. I drink oat milk and some soya in tea (I think I’ll drink lab grown dairy when it’s sold).

Wonder if taking exogenous ketones shuts down your body's production of ketones. I wonder the same thing about antioxidants (among other things) - your body produces its own antioxidants, and by supplementing it may stop producing its own (the body likes homeostasis and would react by downregulating their production).

Respectfully and I apologize if I came across negative with my last post . I have mental health problems for 40 + years . I looked for every option possible about not having to live on these meds all my life. Only in the past 4 years my pcp did a DNA test that checked if the meds I was on work based on my DNA. A few did not completely match . They slowly got me off those that didn't match , and I felt and still feel so much better. I'm still on 3 meds a day . I also tried to take a multi vitamin every day and it set off anxiety and more than usual negative thoughts. I'm happy you were able to reduce the amount of medication, but sometimes the true facts are we need helpers that other's people don't need. I eat healthy foods and fruits and vegetables. No fast foods or caffeine or smoking or drinking . Please be safe and careful, and always listen to your heart . It's OK not to be ok, but you and your husband are enough together. Thanks for trying different ways to improve your health and lives with healthy foods, but the chemicals imbalances happen and that's life for us living with mental illness.
