I've been keto for years and over time, I think the lifestyle becomes very easy to maintain. I spend about half of what I used to on groceries. I enjoy simple, whole food meals. I have a small garden, I shop at the farmers market in summer and don't indulge in any processed keto treats. I'm 60, on no medications anymore and sometimes feel like I'm aging in reverse. I'm so grateful to have found it.
In the U.S., Aldi is a great place to shop for keto. Their prices are lower than other grocery store chains and they carry a lot of stuff that is specifically keto, as well as just regular grocery items that fit the medical keto diet. Avocados are around $.69 each there!
I’m in the US and I’m on food stamps. I get $290 a month for 2 adults. That’s $145 a month per adult. Only $4.83 per day per person. We make it work though between sales, coupons and food pantries.
@@Bramattjo you’re on a page about mental illness, specifically schizophrenia which is the most debilitating mental illness on planet earth, and only 15%-20% of people with schizophrenia are able to maintain a job. contrary to your belief system, not everyone on food stamps is lazy, it actually is there to help people who need it and have no other options like in the case of mental illness. I would hardly call a $145 a month for food budget “living off the government”. I don’t think anyone would choose that situation willingly. hope this opens your circle of compassion and your mind just a bit. being respectful is always a good thing, and understanding that we don’t actually know everything about everyone can help with that.
I absolutely agree. I just started medical keto and i already know it will be more cost effective. Let us also think about the price we pay healthwise to eat the cheapest food. As a person that has lived with bipolar 1 for almost 30 years, ive paid more to not look after myself/live an unhealthy lifestyle for so many years. Additionally, medications/medical care that followed collateral damage has been insanely expensive.
Well done! You’re looking great and thanks so much for doing this! I don’t know if you’ve noticed but you are blinking much less now. TD may have resolved from the med reduction alone but that would not have been possible, in a healthy way, without your medical keto journey. So very happy for you! ❤
My husband has several health issues that are controlled with a strict diet. Its tough, but worth it because good health is so important. We save money by growing our own food, foraging and hunting.
For all of those in the comments talking about medical costs, different food prices in the US vs Canada, etc: It's difficult for Canadian content creators to design their content around the needs of Americans. We have very different realities. Even if she did use more American prices for things like healthcare, some medical services cost different amounts in different states. People have varying levels of medical insurance that may or may not cover some of the things Lauren is getting. Plus, there's still large differences in food accessibility and availability in rural vs urban areas. Lauren is not going to be able to tell you how much it would cost for YOU to do it, she can only say what it costs her.
Agreed. I'm not sure how my fellow Americans are making Keto work on little money. Two years ago, my husband and I followed the Keto diet to the letter. To save money, I make food from scratch rather than purchasing ready-made snacks. My grocery bill doubled, and I am a bargin hunter. Since that time, groceries have gone up 30%. An average beef roast costs anywhere between $18 -$20. Packages of chicken breasts are running over $20.00. Much of the Keto diet consists of protein. After all of the time and money we spent, i saw no improvement in my mental health. I'm very happy so many people are getting results. But it doesn't work for everyone, and we shouldn't be called haters.
My husband does keto and we get the rotisserie chicken from Costco too. I save the bones and then make brown broth by just putting the bones in boiling water and simmering it for 4 hours. We add onion and celery sometimes and some other spices. It’s really yummy and heathy. Just a suggestion ❤
I just wanted to say that If you have suicidal thoughts or mental trauma or even if you don’t or your just going through something ajust know that I love you and your loved by many and people and if you think that might not be loved by your family or people you know or just anyone just know they might even love you even more than your think. You have a purpose you are beautiful, kind, just be yourself and go after what you want to do. You are amazing, you got this, and things will get better in your life, you will do great things, and so many people and I are proud of you. Your future is bigger than your past and your past does not define you are awesome and a warrior. Don’t hate yourself simply because of your past, forgive yourself, love yourself no matter what because you deserve the world and the great things in it. I love you Have a wonderful beautiful nice day. Also how are you and your family doing today? Thank you so much for your service.🙏🏽❤️ Never forget you are not a mistake you belong in this world and you are light of the world and you are the true meaning of kindness.
You also pay more for convenience food (pre-made). As an example, roasting your own chicken can be much cheaper than buying rotisserie chicken. You can also find out what produce is better to buy organic due to pesticides they're grown with. For example, it's safe to buy non-organic watermelon and carrots.
After switching away from carbon-hydrates my sweet tooth/cravings has completely gone. - no more buying sweets, snacks, pop/soda-drinks, etc. This REALLY saves me money, a lot of money. Positive side - my weight is going down/stabilizing, I'm not hungry all the time and do not think about food/eating all the time.
I have schizoaffective disorder and I'm trying out the keto diet because of you! (Today is day 3) Thank you for breaking down the daily, weekly, and monthly costs of the keto diet :)
Hey Lauren, thank you for your honest disclosure of the costs of your Keto journey. However I don’t think the average single person living with Schizophrenia has the shopping and home making skills you have. Many are at the mercy of the closest source for groceries available and do not possess the planning and budgeting skills to pull this off. You have next level homemaking skills and you should be proud of that. I like your channel and admire how you continue to overcome your illness and live your best life. It is something we should all aspire to do and I will continue to follow your journey.
@@scotchmist...Not intended that way sorry if it triggered you in that way. I read the comment again and living with schizophrenia myself and participating in a community that also experiences the illness. I don’t think it was to far out in left field or meant any harm in any way.
This is the cost of food only-not the cost of the journey. She didn't explain how much she spends on a keto coach and that is the medical part of this and no insurance covers it. She didn't dicuss costs of supplements, the gym, the keto management supplies, the gym, the blood work, etc. This is food only and without a coach nobody knows exactly what they should be eating.
@@MightBeGenerals I wasn't 'triggered' just pointing out how condescending your comment was. I also have the same illness but we don't all have to be treated like infants

Hi! I don’t know how much you check your comments but have you ever looked into the neuro immunological side of Schitzophrenia? I have a rare autoimmune disease that attacks the brain and because of that I’ve done a lot of research and researchers are starting to think that schitzophrenia may be caused by inflammation of the central nervous system. You may want to look into that if you haven’t already. Also watch the movie Brain on Fire if you haven’t already!❤
Brain on Fire is a good book but most people who are diagnosed with bipolar or schizophrenia don't have the same problem she did. If you have that problem long term without treatment you get severe brain damage.
I think you also need to weigh the costs against paying for doctors and therapists and over the counter meds. I did a food service for awhile too and they were about $13-17USD per day.
Thanks for doing this, I think it will help a lot of people wrap their heads around how to do keto. We also need to remember a couple of things: people are already buying food; if you can get your body and mind to a healthier state, then you can function better in the world (maybe work more regularly & make more money) and reduce healthcare/sickcare costs.
we need better anti psycotics. Thats one of the things that should be on the top list. But Im not rich. so I wont be able to fund or investigate in anything
Unfortunately theres a lack of financial incentives to do extensive research on the benefits of eating cauliflower. So these videos are super helpful in showing the power of a good diet!! Keep it up❤❤
I would love to cut down my carbs and perhaps try keto for my mental illness, but I don’t eat meat and can’t get over my ethical concerns over hurting animals. I’m not judging anyone for eating meat. You have to do what’s right for you - I’m not vegan and do eat seafood and fish occasionally - but I would feel guilty going beyond that. I don’t think there is a way to do keto without meat. I honestly thought keto would be prohibitively expensive, so this video surprised me, and I’m so happy for Lauren. She looks and sounds great. ❤
Actually, there is another video Lauren had done with another woman who is on keto for bipolar and that lady started with vegan keto, she didn't eat animals, she was able to do it. Eventually she started adding eggs to her keto diet but that's it. I think you can do keto !! 👍
I have paranoid schizophrenia and I’ve been vegan for over four years. I tried vegan keto for a month and a half last year, keeping strict track of all my nutrient intakes, as well as consistent ketone strip testing. however, that period of time was one of the worst months and a half of my entire life. it did not work for me which I really do think has something to do with being vegan. I normally walk 4 miles on the treadmill at 4.0 speed and during keto I could only walk at 3.0 speed and my legs felt like I was hiking up a steep mountain. It was so painful and hard on my leg muscles. I also never felt satisfied no matter what and I even gained 5 pounds over the course of the month and a half because I normally eat such a healthy, whole foods vegan diet (I am vegan for the animals, but I still am also a healthy eater regardless), and switching to keto I had to eat some more processed foods than normal, and much much more fats than normal, and I just felt terrible the entire time. finally eating some Ezekiel bread was the biggest relief of my entire life and I will never try keto again. I don’t want to discourage you giving it a try, but I did definitely want to tell you about my experience with it!
Nuts can go along way…. Just eating whole foods & reducing sugars & refined foods & screen time and increasing leafy greens , Moringa leafs ? & outdoor childs play can go a long way. dare I say not everyone needs full on keto to reduce inflammation. It’s not right for some folks. Alkalizing is my next big project.
Given that a lot of people with severe mental illness are on EBT or foodstamps in the US and/or on Social Security that’s a lot of money for us. In the US currently I get $217 in EBT for a single person. I have 400 left over after rent, utilities and cable/internet. So the rest has to cover everything else-clothes, toiletries, transportation costs ect. Paying for food would be a lot of our budget. Paying for a keto Coach, and nutritionist is not covered by Medicaid making this outside our budget as people on Medicaid. Can you make a video on how poor people can do this diet? Thanks!
I don't know where you live but if your city has a food co-op you can save quite a bit of money. Most food co-ops have fresh produce and high quality meats and fish and everything is discounted. You usually have to work a few hours a month but you have a disability you would not have to work. You can start the diet by lowering the carbs you are eating and it would put you into ketosis. You can eat butter, cream, meats and green vegetables and some berries and nuts. It is very easy to do and really worth it. Once you get into ketosis it is amazing.
Hi, update. I had my gallbladder out and have to follow a low fat diet otherwise I have trouble. I had gallstones and other stones somewhere else. So Keto is no longer an option.
It's not the food cost that people were concerned about related to inacessibiliy. It is the food PLUS the keto coach, plus the equipment, test strips, blood work, etc. plus the gym membership. Blood work is not free in the US. A keto coach isn't free either. That cost breakdown is what people need. I get that you want to justify this, but you left off the medical costs of a medical intervention. That is what makes this inaccessible.
Eggs, butter, ground beef, chicken thighs, livers. All pretty cheap. Plant a garden if you want greens and berries. Save your grease and drippings too. I buy most of my meat marked down.
In US. shop mostly at Aldi or Ruler foods and get manager markdowns. Current deals are .49/lb chicken leg quarters, pistachios 2.99/8 oz. and eggs 1.79/doz so this lets me spend $30/wk. Used to spend this much to feed 3 15 yrs ago... Wasn't aiming for keto but this is just poverty in US.
Lauren , you guys are tough as balls to stick to a keto diet. Wow & thaaank you for all that you contribute. In the US, in general, I find keto is very expensive. Meat, & nuts , & variety especially are the most expensive. Grains & beans, sweets & refined processed foods are cheaper. “Keto” sweetener= expensive, (& not very keto really?) Packaged prepared “keto” food (dried, or processed food, which often contains additives …) are very expensive. Also, higher quality food costs way more. Grocery store bought Organic pasture eggs :6-7$/ doz. A person typically needs to be able to do things other than just cook & clean so buying prepared foods is designed socially today to be necessary for urban solitary work life. Buying food in large amounts or bulk can help save. But a single city person living alone may not have the space to store bulk foods, nor could eat them in a timely manner. Farmers markets are really expensive. Any thing fresh, local, organic costs alot, & probably has to be to be consumed quickly. I don’t get how folks are getting that this is cheaper ? Sure, if you had a small gardening community, & ate mostly sunflower seeds, you’d be saving big… but you would have to do this for your living, store a lot & have way less variety. Including the variety of gettin to see specialists…. They are very expensive urban “commodities”… I’m curious if anyone (Lauren) has looked into celiac sprew inflammation, or related intolerances such as maltose “sugar” intolerance that can be detected through a breath test ? I’m really curious about sweeteners. Stevia by whole leaf form , or derivatives of, erythritol, & xylitol…. These are the ones I’ve chosen , but I’m wondering if they are also contributing to inflammation. I can’t even tolerate allulose/ inulin. If I can’t cut out sweets, then maybe whole food sweeteners are better than inflammation than keto sweaters?
I think this sort of budgeting information would be more useful with more than one store's worth of data. At least in the States, if you're in a rural area, your nearest grocery store within a 30 minute drive might be a Dollar General or Family Dollar. Even where I am in a major city, prices can vary wildly between different stores, and what stores are near you depends on where in the metro area you are. I do also think that other people have made valid points with regards to hurdles like executive dysfunction and being on government assistance programs.
I rarely reach for fast food. It just was never particularly available to me, both in terms of being physically available or within my budget. Cooking from scratch has always been what i have done
Very reasonable! Don't forget community gardens, hunting/fishing/foraging, and donations as applicable. PS watch out for Almond butter, high oxalate levels...
Im Vegan and intolerant to soy.. makes keto a lot more challenging.. And Ketone Urine strips are failing me. I wish you included the cost of tour keto monitoring.
If you are interested in trying keto, pea protein and lupin beans are a great keto vegan alternative to soy. Also nuts and seeds. If you’re body can tolerate/you are open to it goats cheese is a great addition and egg yolks, not vegan but both are well tolerated by many. Ive seen people make fermented lupin tempeh (soy free) as well. Good luck!
@@weeweewee3337 I was on Keto for 4 months, I was about 65-70lbs overweight and lost 35 lbs in those 4 months. I had a short 10 day break from keto in the middle of that. I was living on Pea Proteine powder, hemp hearts and algea lol. thanks for the tips. The egg and dairy industries are the worste out there so those options are still a no for me. Male chicks are slaughtered in a blender at birth because they dont lay.. its very brutal. Though i did eat eggs from chickens we had when we first went vegan. That lived a long happy life and died naturally to 8-12 years. Instead of the typical 2 or 3 when they start laying less eggs.
Thanks for making this video. I live on food stamps in the US, and it's very challenging to make them stretch far enough each month. At the lowest cost you talked about I would still be short about $100 US dollars each month. But it would be interesting to attempt figuring out a diet like this and seeing if it's possible.
I don't know where the USDA got those numbers? I only have $280 a month to spend on 2 adults. And we're lucky if we can afford to eat cheap fast food once a month. Just crazy.
I'm worried because my 32 year old daughter who is schizoaffective has gained over 80 pounds this past year in the mental health facility where she has been confined and they refuse to allow her to be on a ketogenic diet. So it will be hard for her to find any doctors when she hopefully gets to live independently who will support her being on a keto diet. I hope she will at least be able to significantly lower her daily carbs and move closer to keto from that point and that she will begin to lose the weight.
I imagine a more plant fat/protein centered keto could save people money if needed. Pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds and tofu are rather cheap healthy fats. Peanuts are great too. EDIT: just had to add this as the thriftiest plant options were not referenced, fiber is easier for people to miss, and seeds can be prepped easily and kept in the freezer
I spent $130.00 @a farmers market. All fresh no packaged fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds. The taste is so much better than the prepackaged foods. I'm vegan and try to find fresh.
I love my new Keto Bomb snacks. And I love ate, eating, a cooked sausage and vegetable, my lunches when I was, I am, home. My medical history, I often tire came, come, dinners, and when I didn't, I don't, eat out, I loves I go to bed early and I rest and or sleep, lots, whenever I could, whenever I can. I like vegetarian and or vegan like, Keto, most. I like your video.
I spend alot of money on foods, and suppelements. I cant imagine I would have to buy 'True Wild Salmon" "True caught grass fed beef". Actually I buy that beef once in a week, but imagine having to buy it for it everyday
I don’t know where in canada you live, but where I live in canada, those prices are a lot more! Also what about the medical accessories you have, I have no health insurance, who is paying for the keto coach ext. Only for the rich, as usual, not the everyday person with mental health issues who can nearly feed or look after himself!
Im living in Ireland and im on disability and i spend 150 eu a week for 2 kids and 2 adults. Getting 220 e a week. Definitely to expensive for most of people.
I'm pretty sure rapeseed (aka. canola) or sunflower or olive oil are all fine and it doesn't all have to be avocado oil. Macadamia nuts are really nice but peanuts would work fine too or almonds or any unroasted unsalted nuts. And I'm still not convinced it's necessary to have such extremely low carbs. Keto is one way to reset insulin sensitivity but then I'm not convinced it's necessary to keep on doing it. There are also meds to increase insulin sensitivity which wouldn't require drastic dietary changes
Honestly its low because you eat veggies. Raw veggies tend to bring down costs. Also if you wanna go REALLY cheap on veggies, Asian marts are great. However Asian marts are NOT known for freshness or organic produce
Keto and money aside, it shocks me how much processed meat you apparently have to consume while on the ketogenic diet. That would be an instant turn off for me. Whenever I buy animal-based products I look for fair trade and organic items as much as possible.
Wonderful informative video! I could spend less (it's the sweets for me too that I splurge on). But they are good for cravings I have. Otherwise, trying to do a super clean keto is challenging price wise and more.
I tried Keto and I used a food delivery service to get my food. But it was hard not having the food custom made to my needs. And also found it hard to stick to the diet, particularly if I go out and socialize... Didn't find any keto-friendly places apart from coffee shops in my city. And the coffee shops are keto-friendly if I only drink coffee... But I can't live only on that... :)) Which means I have to cook, but I am so bad at cooking I would die of hunger if I only eat what I am making... :)) I want to try again, but I really need a better strategy than last time... It's good to see how you are progressing, I already saw quite a few things I need to fix in my approach. I didn't think exercising intensively and keto could be done at the same time until I saw you do it. I didn't exercise that much when I did keto, but now I do exercise a lot but without keto. I really want to try getting on keto again for a few weeks at least, it felt amazing when I did it last time, I hope I can do both keto and sports.
There's a book called Gut and psychology syndrome, how to treat schizophrenia naturally, it's interesting, for people that fall into this thing they call the gap

Hi what supplments do you take and what company do you get them from. Also can you tell me how I can get a Dietitian in British Columbia. I am having such a hard time finding one who knows anything about this
I commented extensively about the cost of medical keto, after a previous video of yours, and a huge expense not listed is your coach, gym membership, ability to be a stay at home mom, pcp, psychiatrist. . . The list goes on. I wish you well, but you are blessed, and most average families couldn’t do this, at least not correctly, and that is key. Costco is also a barrier if you live in an apartment, where you cannot really store bulk items, or have a freezer in the garage which doesn’t exist. There is also a yearly membership fee, which is not high, but that, again is relative. I wish you would have given us the family total, not just yours, and again, the fact that you can be a stay at home mom with kids in daycare, tells much about your income. Who spends $80 on 4 bottles of wine? $45 for the device could be a partial tank of gas. I think you are out of touch with most folks, and I don’t get why you didn’t mention the cost of your keto coach. I like what you are doing. I like you and your family, but I still think, even that one sentence about the device being only about $45, said so blithely shows that possibly your privilege which I have had at times in my life, blinds you to the reality of the majority of people’s lives. P.S. I don’t eat out, ever, and am not a consumer of alcohol or caffeine. Everyone is different. This is not attainable for all imo. I do think with your mental health struggles, that this seems to be helping you tremendously. You look happy and healthy, and I am pulling for you in that sense. Take care
I disagree with you. Lauren does work she is creating content that you are watching. She and her husband work together and they are both putting in a lot of effort and time to make this channel successful and useful for people all over the world. If you are motivated to do the diet it does not difficult to do. She is showing you the way she does it and wants to give the best information that is working for her. As far as how she spends her money it is nobody's business. We all have expenses and we all make choices on how we live our life.. I have a chronic mental illness almost all of my life and was never able to put my illness into remission. I am so happy to see something as due-able as dietary intervention that can change the trajectory of a person's life and eliminate so much pain and suffering is well worth any investment. @@JadaRose880Yes, I see your point, but being able to make your own hours at home while kids are at daycare, going to the gym with your partner, and you have a supportive partner like Rob, is completely different from getting up, rushing breakfast, driving the kids to school, off to your office job, pick the kids up from afterschool care, and do homework, dinner, bath, reading, bedtime, and hopefully there is a partner with you to share the load. Weekends are cleaning, shopping, minding kids . . . Lauren has Quite a different lifestyle than most. This is many people’s lives, just to get by. That is my point. If you can afford any investment for wellness, good for you. Many cannot. That is my concern. That takes money.Last, read the last of my comment where I praised Lauren for doing this, and helping herself towards wellness.

Hi American here. You can't live on 240 a month and eat healthfully that is extreme poverty. It's depressing. Processed food is cheaper and it sucks. Meat is expensive. Eggs are also. I was hoping to do keto and now see there is no way.
The strips will work until your keto adapted (2 weeks approx) but after that they no longer work. But if you use a good carb counter app then you don't necessarily need a blood ketone meter.
You are choosing most expensive you can choose. My recent price about 40 for half bag of food. Another note you may NOT wanna hear- you are losing a LOT of weight. Plz make sure this is okay for you. Food stamps in Us allows for up to near 300$ a month. Very manageable if shop wisely. Please get some calories you into kiddo. Ive been holding out, but seeing FAST lost & u didnt need that. Plz make sure that one sense of sadness doesnt get replaced for another. 💔
HI Lauren, Your spending too much going to costco for your veggies. Go to your locally own grocery store. Buy unbranded goods as much as possible. Also try to eat more whole foods. Don't get the healthy junkfood.
I love how financially organised you two are but I totally hate that it's necessary to apologise for not being on food stamps. My criticism is of the bizarre culture around wealth online, not anything you've said. I like that you're sensitive to others, we should all be, it just feels like you need to do a lot more explaining here than you would in real life. It's trash, especially since you clearly have a budget you've thought through. Nobody should be penalised for being responsible and smart. Also a good argument could be made for Rob's disadvantage due to a cultural heritage I can't guess at. Very hard to call privilege on someone who's faced racism and/or xenophobia to at least some degree for pretty much all of their life. Even if they have a penis. Ugh. Intersectionality is where compassion goes to die.

Hey Lauren, this vlog was really encouraging. Still early keto days but im sticking with it xx
If Chris is right, that is priority one. Health is priceless.
After switching away from carbon-hydrates my sweet tooth/cravings has completely gone.
- no more buying sweets, snacks, pop/soda-drinks, etc. This REALLY saves me money, a lot of money.
Positive side - my weight is going down/stabilizing, I'm not hungry all the time and do not think about food/eating all the time.
yes, the more sugar, and carbs you eat, the more hungry you feel all the time. because of insulin that keeps getting spiked and so the cycle repeats
I have schizoaffective disorder and I'm trying out the keto diet because of you! (Today is day 3)
Thank you for breaking down the daily, weekly, and monthly costs of the keto diet :)
How patronising.

When I swapped out non-keto foods for keto products, my budget pretty much stayed the same.
The quantities definitely make a huge difference. I eat so much less, and less frequently, that it balances out to about the same overall food budget.
How are you doing? What do you eat daily?
@nargiza181 Eating meats, eggs and some Keto products. Like Hero Bread and some Atkins. (Not a lot though.) Doing good!
@catherinej2020 thanks.do you take any medication?
@nargiza181 I dropped down 50mg of my anti-psychotics and 50mg on my mood stabilizers. Still taking meds at this point.
Brain on fire is a great movie. I watched it at least four times. I hope there is something the medical community can do to help you. Best wishes ❤
💯
Keep it up❤❤
Bravo, Lauren and Robby, you are such an inspiration!
Same
Nuts can go along way….
I appreciate how you keep it real.
Most food co-ops have fresh produce and high quality meats and fish
and everything is discounted. You usually have to work a few hours a month but you have a disability you would not have to work. You can start the diet by lowering
the carbs you are eating and it would put you into ketosis. You can eat butter, cream, meats and green vegetables and some berries and nuts. It is very easy to do and really
worth it. Once you get into ketosis it is amazing.

Hi, update. I had my gallbladder out and have to follow a low fat diet otherwise I have trouble. I had gallstones and other stones somewhere else. So Keto is no longer an option.
Thanks!
It's good to see you Lauren! Don't worry about content, just make videos often, I enjoy them!
You don't need a gym membership to get exercise.
They are very expensive urban “commodities”…
I’m curious if anyone (Lauren) has looked into celiac sprew inflammation, or related intolerances such as maltose “sugar” intolerance that can be detected through a breath test ?
In spring, summer, and fall months you can garden and grow your vegetables 🥦 which can save money on grocery bills.
I went Keto for a couple of weeks and my grocery bill went up! I live in Australia, where groceries are ridiculously expensive!
Thanks for addressing this. What about your Keto coach?
I'm curious about that too
what about all of the additives in the processed chicken?
Thanks for making this video. I live on food stamps in the US, and it's very challenging to make them stretch far enough each month. At the lowest cost you talked about I would still be short about $100 US dollars each month. But it would be interesting to attempt figuring out a diet like this and seeing if it's possible.
I don't know where the USDA got those numbers? I only have $280 a month to spend on 2 adults. And we're lucky if we can afford to eat cheap fast food once a month. Just crazy.
What supplements do you like to take? And a particular brand? Also in Canada.
May i ask which supplements you're taking?
I love my new Keto Bomb snacks. And I love ate, eating, a cooked sausage and vegetable, my lunches when I was, I am, home. My medical history, I often tire came, come, dinners, and when I didn't, I don't, eat out, I loves I go to bed early and I rest and or sleep, lots, whenever I could, whenever I can. I like vegetarian and or vegan like, Keto, most. I like your video.
Thanks Lauren!
Could you make more videos on budget keto
I spend alot of money on foods, and suppelements. I cant imagine I would have to buy 'True Wild Salmon" "True caught grass fed beef". Actually I buy that beef once in a week, but imagine having to buy it for it everyday
oh im not doing KetoGenic btw, just eat healthy and overall life style for example supplementing with Omega 3 and vitamin D
Also Canadian food prices are higher than US prices so if you live in the US your prices for food would be lower.
How much adding the keto coach?
I'm pretty sure rapeseed (aka. canola) or sunflower or olive oil are all fine and it doesn't all have to be avocado oil. Macadamia nuts are really nice but peanuts would work fine too or almonds or any unroasted unsalted nuts. And I'm still not convinced it's necessary to have such extremely low carbs. Keto is one way to reset insulin sensitivity but then I'm not convinced it's necessary to keep on doing it. There are also meds to increase insulin sensitivity which wouldn't require drastic dietary changes
I think here the goal is to change brain chemistry through the body running on ketones for fuel, which does require consistent very low carb.

Unrelated but on your most recent video - do you have any experience with electro shock therapy?
Honestly its low because you eat veggies. Raw veggies tend to bring down costs. Also if you wanna go REALLY cheap on veggies, Asian marts are great. However Asian marts are NOT known for freshness or organic produce
Great video!
What about your keto coach? She's been really helpful to your process hasn't she?
Keto and money aside, it shocks me how much processed meat you apparently have to consume while on the ketogenic diet. That would be an instant turn off for me. Whenever I buy animal-based products I look for fair trade and organic items as much as possible.
Great video!😁

Where in Canada are you located?
What causes blemishes on her right cheek ? Can keto do it ?
Take care

it and wants to give the best information that is working for her. As far as how she spends her money it is nobody's business. We all have expenses and we all make choices

as dietary intervention that can change the trajectory of a person's life and eliminate so much pain and suffering is well worth any investment. Health is Wealth.
I comment because she is a role model, and I think other followers could get into trouble if they tried to do a medical keto lifestyle without a very good keto coach, and other medical professionals which she didn’t really touch on in this video. Hi American here. You can't live on 240 a month and eat healthfully that is extreme poverty. It's depressing. Processed food is cheaper and it sucks. Meat is expensive. Eggs are also. I was hoping to do keto and now see there is no way.
uhm how is that with bean soups? i mean its protein that bean. so you can be low buget and vegan.
I find buying vegies is way better than spending it on meat
Oh, I like the part about peeing on strips. Maybe I'll give keto a try.
The strips will work until your keto adapted (2 weeks approx) but after that they no longer work. But if you use a good carb counter app then you don't necessarily need a blood ketone meter.
@@203kjm Okay, well, if I'll have to stop peeing on strips eventually, I don't think I'll bother with keto.

HI Lauren, Your spending too much going to costco for your veggies. Go to your locally own grocery store. Buy unbranded goods as much as possible. Also try to eat more whole foods. Don't get the healthy junkfood.
If you require a lot of calories (3000) to maintain your weight, your cost will be greater.
Ugh.
