  • 15,022 actual miles! One family owned since new. A woman purchased it, the son hung onto it when she passed. Most expensive American car made in 1979. The Collector's Series is fully loaded including extras only available on this model. It has it's own umbrella, leather bound tool kit, a garage door opener kit, bucket seats with console and so much more. Original paperwork, Marti report, are included. The special gold emblem with the limited edition # and the door emblem with owner's initials are still in original box.
    Beautiful midnight blue metallic with padded Landau top and matching padded trunk hump. The turbine wheels are color matched to the car, body side moldings are color matched. Grill has gold accents. Very original and in very nice shape. It is so luxurious. The soft cloth pillow top seats were considered an upgrade over leather. Rare bucket seats have full power. In the middle is a deluxe console with locking compartment, inside you will find the umbrella included with this model. The front portion opens up to a CB radio. Glove soft leather trim is used throughout including the entire dash pad, seat moldings, armrests and entire console. Overhead is a power sunroof with sunshade. The carpet is thick and plush. Has original 400 motor. It is just as it left the factory. Tags, stickers, ink stamps are still in place. Never monkeyed with, spray painted etc.

    '78 Diamond Jubilee and '79 collectors series were pretty much the same trim, but the Diamond had a bit more bling and IIRC the Diamond Jubilee at the time was almost half again as expensive as the base model Mk V. The Diamond was I think the most expensive North American built car at that time. Anyone that drove a Mark V was really a "somebody" back then. These cars are the pinnacle of North American luxury cars. We'll never see these get built again.

    I went to work for a Lincoln/Mercury dealership service department in 1979. This certainly brings back a lot of memories. Definitely a fine example of what we called a "land yacht." It wasn't anything close to fast by todays standard but it wasn't bad, especially considering it's size but it was plush and very comfortable. I think the hardest thing to get used to was a hood. When I first got in one to pull it into a service bay, that hood looked about a mile long. It was fun though, because as a young adult, I got to drive cars that I never would have had the wherewithal to have access to. It was a fun time and the Mark V was one of my favorites.

    No, Midnight Blue is NOT the only exterior paint color on the 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V Collector's Series. The Collector's Series Mark V offered three other color choices: White (Production 2,040), Diamond Blue (Production 197), and Light Silver (Production 125). Some people think that Midnight Blue was the only color because it was the color used in print ads and brochures with a Production 3,900. The Kasman Cloth interior came with the center console but leather upholstered seats were available without the center console at $400 savings.

    The Mark V was such a beautiful car. I had a '77 model, white with a maroon top and trim, and with the same colors in the interior. They tried to carry over this styling theme with the Mark VI in 1980, and because that car was smaller, it just looked boxy and awkward. If I were a rich man, this baby would be in my garage for sure.

    I actually have one of them. But with leather seats. It's in good shape. But not that good. Slowly fixing it up. When I say slowly I mean slowly. Because parts are not easy to find if they don't make them anymore. Pluse expensive as hell for most of it just the clear plastic on the front blinkers are like $200, hood ornament is around that too. But it sure is fun to drive.

  • @marckemp9955
    @marckemp9955 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    1979 only came with the 400. But it wasn't as big as loss as people would think. The 400 would reap more mpg and came with a lower (numerically higher) final drive. So even though it had less HP it didn't seem so bad off the line.

    The Collector Series was available in blue or white. The grille on these cars was gold tone. These were hard to find since it was the last year of the big Town Car or Mark series. 1980 introduced the first downsized Lincoln’s. It also was the first year of an unintentional rare car. Lincoln had a 4 door Town Car and a 4 door Mark VI. The 4 door Mark VI didn’t sell as well as the Town Car and was discontinued. The 2 door Town Coupe met a similar fate. After these models were discontinued, Lincoln’s full size models were the 4 door Town Car, and the 2 door Mark VI. I especially like the Lincoln Versailles myself. I always thought it was just as nice looking as the Cadillac Seville. I recall a t.v. commercial for the Versailles using a “sound alike” singer imitating Bette Miller’s song “Do You Wanna Dance?”. The commercial was short lived when Bette Midler sued Ford for not asking permission to use the song.

    The Collector's and Diamond Jubilee series had the absolute WORST/HIDEOUS 'velour' material for the seats! WTF? It looked like filter foam. Given the gorgeous velour of the standard Continentals and Town Cars, I have no idea what cretin selected this material! It's even uglier 40+ years later! (Put in the gorgeous white leather seats with blue piping from the Bill Blass edition! That would be awesome even if it means ripping out that center console.)

    My main complaint was that leather was only available with the split bench seat. Only the bucket seats offered cloth. And that 400 inch motor was way underpowered. Not that people bought those monstrous car to drag race, but a person at least want the damn thing to get out of its own way! Probably why the car drank fuel like it was on a weekend binge.

    It would’ve been nice to see the selling price and why you’re posting something that’s four years old is already sold is beyond me?

    It's amazing how time will change people's views on cars. Did this have cutting-edge engineering and high build quality to justify it's price? Not at all. It's basically a pimped-out Ford. Some call it a rolling monument to bad taste. So over the top its a fun, hilarious car
