100% agree. My dad had a 1972 Mark IV. Beautiful personal luxury car. For the sake of all Continental lovers please keep your passion alive and well. Thanks so much for watching. I have more videos on my channel. Check them out! Thanks 😊
Man, that was an cool and refreshing ride out. And I love how older cars have emblems out on front hood. Cruise on man.. cruise on. I’m an older car die hard. I own an 81 towncar coupe as I commented before. And I also have an 77 NewYorker and an 73 Chevy Caprice. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s. Those were real built cars then. It’s ashamed that the cars nowadays you can thump a dent in them. Nice video.
Marc B , vehicle’s prior to the 90’ were a couch on wheels, but cars now are rolling appliances. after 1978 the New Yorker slightly downsized. The Caprice gave a great final effort before ending production with the black impala. Thanks again for watching and enjoy cruising around this summer.
My Dad bought off the Showroom Floor a 1981 Model 2 tone Blue/Gray with Blue Leather interior & traded in his 1976 Ford Country Squire Wagon. My Dad's only Dislike about his 81 was the Many owners complaints was the Electronic Carburetor which was New for 1981 & by 1983 Model year Ford went back to the 79-80 Simple & Non-Problematic Carburetor. Otherwise My Dad absolutely loves his 81. My Dad is 93 yo now & still owns his 81 with 102.000 miles to Date, Been Garaged since New & in great condition. It's rarely Driven now But goes to same Lincoln Dealership as bought for Service once a year now. Wen my Dad does drive he drives his 20012 F250 that has 30.000 Miles
Wow Patrick that’s an incredible story about your Dad and his long term ownership to present. it would be great if his 1981 Mark VI could be enjoyed by generations to come. comments like yours keeps me excited about making videos. it’s special to know what an impact this luxury series has made on your family. i have memories as a kid going way back to my dads 1972 Mark IV. thank you for watching and please visit my channel often. soon to make another Continental video!
I was Mesmerizing going on that Drive with You . I spent Long hours in the Passenger seat Driving to New England & every 4th of July Driving to Florida to visit Family. As for my Dad's (Mark) my Dad named many Years ago that Someday I will be Mark's Caretaker. Thumbs up to Your Video....
Beautiful, brings back alot of memories. My grandparents moved to Wyandotte Mi, when they came from Italy. My grandfather had a 1974 Lincoln town car 4 door it was a yellowish color My other grandfather also from Sicily, came to Chicago. He had a copper colored 2 door 1977 Lincoln mark v I have fond memories of both...
Philip Salamone ,thank you for sharing such vivid memories here on my channel. I’m glad special moments can be reimagined through the journey I live in my Continental Mark. Lincoln’s have a distinct look we all can connect to a certain place and time. Please watch my other videos, I too have a Continental History to share. Thanks!
I have a car club acquaintance who owns a 1989 Rolls Royce Silver Spur. I told him I'd love to ride in it sometime. He said, "Any time. But, your '89 Town Car is more comfortable. Don't expect much more."
Gus Salazar , Detroit architecture is reflected in the beauty of our cars, buildings and homes. I’m glad you took the journey virtually with me. I’ll be giving many more tours on my channel in the future. Please visit again soon!
Back in the early 80s when I was a teenager, my parents rented the 4-dr, the Town Car, and the Versailles (bustle back & pre-bustle back) just to go on family trips from Los Angeles to San Diego. I loved everything about those cars, the way the exterior looked, the cloth interiors, and especially the sound systems back then- it really sounded good when “Sailing” by Christopher Cross came on- LOL. And now, every once in a while whenever I see one of these cars, I remember those times fondly. Thanks for sharing your trip to Belle Isle. By the way, your car’s muffler sounds like my late aunt’s 70’s Olds Delta 88, which she named “Gracie”. That car was huge!
Doug Napoltes , hello doug! I really enjoyed your comment. memories gave me the reason to own a Mark VI today. If you haven’t done so already, check out my Lincoln Love Blog in the description to this video, you’ll discover how similar our youth traveling days were. Thanks again for watching my channel. please return often for new content to come : )
When you mentioned MUSIC namely Christopher Cross on radio my Dad had a Town Car around that time and I loved when Dreams by Fleetwood Mac came on the Fm Radio. Nice cars and radio systems.
Omg that engine is taking me back to my childhood and our 79 mark 5 then a mark 6 later . Cold starts were extra chuggy but its like waking a beast and sounds like it too.. .. That car could haul ass too
Davi Edmond you guys had the best of both worlds, a Mark V and followed up with a VI. After this video I did tame it a little with a new exhaust. Yep! The 5.8 does stand up if you time it just right. Would you ever buy an old Lincoln for memories sake?
I enjoyed watching the drive you took to Bell Isle, love the view and the memories it brought back of Summers when I was a kid and we visited my mother's sister in Detroit. Your nice Mark VI ride returned me to some fond memories 😊
you shared my favorite kind of comment. I love it when viewers are compelled to post fond memories of their childhood from watching my video. I too share memories of my youth in another video I made titled “My Continental History”. please check it out on my channel. PS. who knows! maybe that’s why we all look forward to summer returning every year. a chance to be a kid again.
I appreciated the virtual company, Ha ha! My 351 sounds even sweeter now with a new exhaust. after this video I got some repairs done. Do you have or had a vehicle with this engine?
@@marcomoreno8188 the most unique installation of the engine went to the Turbo Coupe, SVO and XR4Ti. only slight tuning differences to accommodate weight. yes, basically the same setup. Today the ecoboost mustang is giving it new life.
I hear ya! definitely looking to make some improvements. It’s got great bones and a straight frame. This year I plan to get new mounts for the motor and some new whitewall tires. I love all the comments I’ve been receiving. It motivates me to keep it running and making more videos. Thanks for your support and please check out my channel.
I really enjoyed your video on the Lincoln coupe. I own a 1989 Lincoln Town Car for about 11 years. After watching the step working with the Lincoln on video's as well as driving your car, I think I will keep my 4 door Town Car for a long time 😗😙😚☺.
Congratulations on your long time ownership of such a special vehicle and piece of Lincoln history. Yes, definitely hold on to your 1st generation Town Car. As the old saying goes; they don’t make them like this anymore. PS. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy many more years riding in the comfort of luxury that only a panther platform can bring.
thanks Peter for your concern with the gas cap making contact with the trunk of the car. i can assure you no damage was done. however i will be more mindful about resting it somewhere safer in the future. i hope you enjoyed the video otherwise. today my Mark VI is better than ever now in 2022. feel free to visit my channel and check out the rest of my videos.
robert ross ,you’re welcome. I enjoyed your virtual company. today this would be the least inconspicuous mode of transportation for a private investigator. What do you keep on your Batcave?
@@xrmerkur that was bad 4 tv land, to make fun of the fat william conrad a little kid ask mr how did u get so fat ?as mr cannon, fell over the barn half door
I had the Lincoln mark VI Bill Blass a 1982 coupe It was white with 2 tone colors red on the sides white leather and red integrated leather straps I had the Landau top making it look like a convertible so the oval opera windows were not present but made it quite private in the back. That was presented to me around 1995 in Chicago. Beautiful car they had black carpeting which Nicely coincided with the black carpeting Ford factory CB radio and an 8 track player Full digital dssh- and extra buttons.. The CB radio was integrated in to the radio speakers and the aerial also was AAM FMC B antenna factory amazing car had a lot of fun and it ran at to 300,000 miles. Not bed for throttle body 182 horsepower. The hood ornament was missing so I put on a gold Cadillac Sedan DE ville ornament it made people ask alot of questions but it looked pretty cool. One of my favorite cars but in this Chicago Winter the headlight covers would freeze shut if it got very cold. Ps. At the end of the video in the night time sceen, the very last frame it said mark 6,, was that from the computer control read out 3rd panel dashboard computer right square or was that on the passenger side wood facia etc? My friend let me drive his all silver Cartier version and my Uncle in Florida had an 82 bill blass with the gold to tone and blue with the mix of leather and cloth stitch seats love these cars too. My favorite was the black and silver Givenchy. The car was so much fun and classy to drive around do you enjoy it to and do you own it. The only sadness it had ever brought me was. I ran over a pedestrian the last year I owned the car, actually a little girl who was about six on her bicycle drove right over her in that car. It was dark night and I pulled out of This restaurant Really fast, and she rode along without looking for traffic.
your post is super engaging and i'm honored you took the time to share. your Mark VI was fully loaded and quite the color combination. any metal vehicle lasting that long in the Midwest is a miracle, wow! 300k. the Cadillac ornament really confused people, Ha ha! it's funny about the headlight doors too, because so many Mark owners are frustrated because they stay open. the ambient light at night reading MARK VI is from the passenger wood facia. I believe continental only did this for 1980, later models it was painted over silver. the light comes on when you start the car, and can only see it at night. I love cruising in my Mark VI, I've owned it since 2017. sad story you tell about the child, did she survive? these old cars don't have the best of road lighting and children need more traffic experience, especially if not with parents. well on a more positive note, I really appreciate you watching my video and commenting. I have more Mark VI uploads on my channel, please check them out!
truthparanormal hopefully the Mark IX will someday become a reality. would forgo an SUV to buy a personal luxury car in this era? Lincoln needs to know they have a committed owners.
I really can't decide between the V & VI. The V is a bit larger but the VI seems to have a better fit and finish if that makes sense? Too bad you can't find someone with a V to do a comparison video, I think you could make a good one!
Si vis pacem para bellum , terrific idea indeed. I will put the versus video on my to do list. I completely understand what you’re saying. The Mark V is more widely available and priced more consistent. The Mark VI is more rare with asking prices all over the place. Between the two the general car community loves the Mark V, but the Mark VI creates a two way conversion. (edit: Conversation) Because the VI is on the panther platform machanical parts are plentiful, but body panels are another story. Whatever you decide I hope you enjoy owning a classic as much as I have.
Jason Adams the 1980’s brought us all kinds of new toys including taking Chrysler’s and Speak & Spell. Lincoln was progressing with the times with computer dashboard and shrinking the whole automobile. Believe it or not the 8-track still works in 2020. Thanks for watching and joining the conversation.
William Grant , the Ford Thunderbird was also offered in a Turbo Coupe 1983-1988. It made all the right noises and I’m sure a whole bunch more fuel efficient. Another car from that era I was really into was the Mustang SVO. They both share in common the 2.3 liter turbo engine. Fox bodies were taking over the greater Ford selections in the ‘80s. William thank so much for watching my video, and please check out my channel for more.
Thanks Red5oh! if i’m ever as prolific as your channel, maybe my creations will flourish and become discovered. i have many more ideas, i just need to dedicate the time. PS. i’ve made many improvements to this car since this 2018 video (particularly the new exhaust installed months after this video).
Beautiful and AWESOME MASTERPIECE. I can imagine that gorgeous car with today's technology. Ford needs to bring back the V8's for the Lincoln brand. Njoy, that puppy. I had a brand new 78 Mark V, with 460cid 4V. Enough power for highway & long trips. But, a bit thirsty for premium unleaded. AMOCO 93,worked best. Almost $13k for a fully equipped non designer Mark brand new. All I did was change to true spoke wheels & VOGUE tyres. What a ride. Mobile living room.
sounds like one of the best memories of your life. you were definitely styling finishing off the 70’s. whenever the Continental returns for Lincoln surely it will be electric, but I feel ya! V8 is synonymous with the luxury experience. Thanks for watching my video. I’m still enjoying this rare Mark. I will post more videos soon!

It was the first car. A gift from my father and I used to travel to the cities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Driving pleasure and rest. It is of a sedan type 1986. The color is brown with beige interior
Mohi Adeen , thanks for the story. great memories. brown is a classy color. must have been a comfortable ride. by any chance did you have the Lincoln Town Car?
Mohi Adeen , hey that’s quite alright! great you’ve rescued these classics from extinction. the scrap yard is the last hope, much like an animal shelter. it’s better to adopt than to buy from a puppy mill. fantastic selection of vehicles you have.
Hi. I am french. I have a 1980 lincoln continental Sedan with the 351w. At moment she is in réparation in my garage To do it in very good condition. It is an export of canada sell new in andorra. All the equipement are ok. She s got only 63 000 kilometers. I think this génération is very rare in europe, one of another 1980 lincoln continental Sedan with the 351w is in France because it was in selling in 2017. But i have no lot information on this génération of continental.
Will Lavaud , great selection of classic to restore. you’re correct, not much information available about this generation Mark. fortunately it is on the panther platform with plenty of engine, transmission and suspension parts still available. much success with your Lincoln and thanks for supporting my channel.
Hi Nice Mark VI I noticed your Trip Computer/Clock is not working. They had problems with them 80-83.If you go to any Auto Wrecker and find 83-89 Lincoln Town car with the Digital Dash, Its your control Module that is gone. Its located above the gas pedal next to Transmission Hump .There is 4 1/4 inch bolts and an electrical plug in. The 83-89 version is identical and improved Plug and Play. You also need a Muffler and a Headliner. Cheers from Calgary
Carmen Sorochan , yes you’re absolutely correct. great eye and observation. still to this day my clock is on the fritz. I will check the connection at the location you described before I replace the module. I appreciate viewers like you who are excited as I am to keep these beautiful cars working properly. Thanks for supporting my channel. I have a few newer videos uploaded for your enjoyment. More videos coming this month 😁.
Louie you made my day! Thanks so very much for watching. I still own this beautiful car today in the year 2023. Yes this engine is rare and only available in 1980 for the Mark. This is cruising season, do you have a classic or looking to buy one?
@@xrmerkur I do not own one actually. I'm honestly more of a JDM tuner car guy myself but I grew up around classics and can't deny my love for them even if I do favor Hondas and other Japanese cars. I've always wanted a 68-74 Chevy Nova so hopefully I can acquire one of those within the next couple of years!

John C you’re welcome. I thank you as well for watching. Belle Isle is worth the trip, please come and see. Which is your favorite car for an early cruise? I too am looking forward enjoying mine throughout the season.
John C are you considering the Mercury Marquis 1967 - 1978 era. That Mercedes restoration sound pretty interesting. I hope you documented some of the process.
They are known as Ford Conquistador’s in Venezuela and they were hugely popular amongst kingpins, drug lords and politicians back in the day. My dad bought a 1980 model, full loaded, in 2002 because it literally was the first car he saw on the street when he moved to Venezuela and he fell in love with the style. Super comfortable and easy to drive, giant car and slow as hell. I never saw one with a digital dash though.
Alex Cadenas , wow! thanks for the piece of history you’ve shared. it shows just how appealing this car was across so many “professionals”. Seems like everybody has an amazing Lincoln story. Thanks for watching, and definitely check out my newest videos on my channel.
xrmerkur I have a ton more stories, my dad loved the Ford/Lincoln land yachts of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. He actually got so upset when they anounced the discontinuation of the Panther platform that he cried. The only other time I saw him shed a tear was when my grandmother got sick and the doctors said she would not recover. Grans was very stubborn though, lived for another 15 years “just to prove the stuck up doctor wrong” lol.
Alex Cadenas , Grans was as tough as the panther platform. I hope you get a chance to check out my Continental History story. I go in detail why I love the Mark VI so much. Thanks again!
O.G Wino ,great to meet another Mark VI owner “virtually”. yes these luxury coupes float on the open road. I’m definitely checking out your channel. I too have more Mark VI videos on my channel, please check them out!
thanks Patrick! well i’m more lucky that you watched my video. please check out my channel too. yes, the coupe is most iconic but the sedan is more unique. the Mark VI was the only one to offer 4-doors in the modern series. my classic often gets confused for the Mark V 🤣
Constantine Spyridon I’m 100% with you on that. that was a timeless design and happy to lear they actually stuffed a V8 in there. Wow! I remember when the late 80s model had an in-line 5 cylinder.
Great video! It was like really being on board this flagship car for the world auto industry. A fantastic time travel. A large and fraternal embrace of your friends in Brazil! Televisual Team
Televisual Filmes , thanks for joining the journey in my rolling time capsule. this car is slowly transforming into a proper example of what it used to be in 1980. Since the recording of this video I have changed the exhaust, it’s much quieter now. Always something to maintain and repair, but that’s the charm. Owning a classic takes a loving touch. I’m currently working on new videos for the channel.
there is a third pedal way far left of the main brake pedal (parking brake / emergency brake). also the release for the emergency brake is against the footwell. if you watch my interior video you probably will see it. visit my channel and browse my videos to find. thanks for watching and let me know if you need any more help.
Hank Rogers , Thanks so much : ) I’m really pleased you’ve found my channel. Owning this Lincoln Mark VI has been a true passion of mine. I’m grateful for the positive feedback, it’s motivating me to create more content about cars. Please stand by... more videos to come!!!
Michael John , I believe you’re right. before I go on any super long trip I plan to replace the tires. At that time I will indeed get them balanced. Also I will definitely get whitewalls again. I really appreciate you watching my video. Please visit my channel tomorrow as I will upload another video. And thanks for the compliment 😁
El Camino first I would check out the autotempest website to find comparable offers. Even though facebook marketplace is quickly replacing Craigslist, unique cars like this might still be rare to find. Please remember it’s been sitting for 24 years so gaskets, tires and many seals will need to be replaced. Maybe your classic car insurer can provide recommendations too. Much success and enjoy the process. Thanks for watching my video. Please check out my channel too!
hello car enthusiasts and lovers of rare things. I hope you enjoyed this original footage featuring my 1980 Continental Mark VI. If you're familiar with this car or would like to know more please comment below. Thanks!
Congratulations on your Mark VI! This was my first car..a 1982 Lincoln Mark VI Signature Series Coupe in French Vanilla with a Bordeaux Red velour interior. It was the smoothest riding car I have ever owned. The only major issues I had with it were with the transmission slipping. Other than that..smaller things like one of the digital displays going out..a loose door handle..and the headliner drooping. I still miss that car to this day..and am always looking for another affordable one..but all the good ones that were taken care of are usually now over $10k. I hope you keep restoring it..and that it gives you a lifetime of pleasure my friend. Take care!
+xrmerkur I will indeed keep checking..and if you do any more uploads on it that I don't comment on..please message me here. It's very cool to find another person into these specific cars that isn't over 60 or a low-rider..lol. Nothing against low-riders of course..but I've seen some beautiful Mark VI's turned into cartoon cars by them..so it's nice when someone just wants to keep them original and classy. By the way..one suggestion I have for you if you haven't done it already is to switch to full synthetic oil. It makes a huge difference..and you don't have to change it nearly as often. And if you start experiencing slippage from the transmission..try Lucas Transmission Fix. Take care brother!
Nightbird absolutely this beauty will stay stock. Next I plan to repair exhaust and motor mounts. I will definitely make note of your suggestions too. Thanks!
I'm not sure if you know this but these cars with the flat lifters need oil with the zinc additive.. I think Lucas oil 10063.. or ZDD PLUS additive.. if not you risk premature wear to the cam and lifters.
Nice to have beautiful Lincoln not many around hope you take care keep it .have it long time American build great cars 60s 70 s 80s now new cars aren't that great plastic bumper my favorite car 78 Lincoln mark v ill would like to own it But gas prices it make it difficult to drive it
you said all the right stuff about these old cars. yes, i still own it 🤩. don’t let the cost of gas keep you away from the experience. fuel is the price of admission to enjoy this ride.

Ryan Sellars Thanks for sharing the details. Yes, the Mark VI was ahead of its time. 1980 was like a transitional year proving the newer transmission, but offering a choice of fuel injection or in my case carbureted. Also, thanks for checking out my channel. I have other videos featuring my Mark VI. In the future I plan to capture rolling footage and travel to other unique destinations in Michigan.
oddly enough I never really paid attention to the squeals until you mentioned. ha ha! I will lube the garage door before my next video. what's special in your garage? i'm glad you like my Mark VI. Thanks for watching and please visit often for newer uploads.

Wow! with miles that low it must be showroom new. Have you had to do much gasket replacement since it hasn’t been driven much in the last 40 years? Sounds like the perfect car for Instagram 📸
No I didn't I had to pull the gas tank out and get rid of the old gas and a new fuel pump and she fired right up she all original but a couple of pieces are missing it still had a 8 track in the radio talk about a ride she sails the highway it needed new tires so I got the White Walls it just looks better than regular tires
T Johnson that’s fantastic. definitely whitewall tires is the right look. glad your Mark VI was relatively easy to get back on the road. so many people don’t realize old fuel can cause problems. i too replaced my gas tank early in ownership.
पंडीत्त जी। basick tutoriyal , insightful observation 👍. I think cars of the past have ever greater style and character. However, GPS is probably one of the best attributes of today’s vehicles. Also I must acknowledge the vast amount of accessibility the OBD2 port now gives through the infotainment. But aside from all of today’s tech, yesteryears cars had a more visceral connection.

Hello you have a nice car there. I remember that back when they were selling these they came with accessories. The accessories were cufflinks, sunglasses and a few exquisite key chains. Did you get any of those or do you have them?
Paco Aldape , Great bits of history facts you’ve shared. Thanks for the compliment 😊. unfortunately I don’t have any of the mementos you mentioned, but I do remember reading something about these before.
Mark Ross , I have a new video 2019 after the new exhaust had been installed. check out my channel. thanks for watching my Detroit to Belle Isle piece. I’ve done plenty of repairs since last year. My Lincoln is a work in progress and is much quieter now.
so unfortunate about the fate of both of your Lincoln’s. the one thing that all three of these Lincoln’s have in common, including mine is the panther platform. usually i give a like or a love to comments, but I didn’t want to send a happy reaction to your loss. thinking about it, TH-cam needs a care button. Okay The Lexus IS250 Dude, as promised i’ll check out your channel. be sure to look for my feedback later tonight.
Pat Garvey , you have a keen eye indeed. It is my intention to replace with a new white headliner. After nearly 40 years they get saggy and dingy. I will be uploading more content as I make improvements to my (work in progress) Mark VI. Thanks for your interest, and please come back to check ongoing updates.
Paco Aldape , at some point over the last 40 years the headliner gave way so the fabric was removed. It is on my to do list to replace it. Thanks so much for checking out my video. please check out my channel for brand new Mark VI footage.
The engine sounds odd, as if there is a leak in the exhaust or a bad valve. The steering wheel shakes because of it. It would be worth it to have it looked into. I miss my Mark V's.
i’m happy to report all these problems have been resolved over the years. the exhaust was one of the first things i replaced. actually the vibration was due to old tires, got a whole new set of whitewalls. it’s been a great venture and still more to accomplish. thanks so much for watching!
Benjamin Stephens, Jr. ,I bet it brings back memories. hopefully good ones. Did you have the coupe or sedan? The 302 was fuel injected and early technology that might be problematic today. Actually I’m glad I have the simpler larger displacement option. Thanks for your comment and watching my video.
@@xrmerkur , I had the coupe just like yours w/ the 351 and Variable Venturi carb along with overdrive tranny. It ran great but wouldn't outrun the 5.0 w/ fuel injection. I really liked the 5.8 because it would pull hills on the highway w/o coming out of overdrive; the 5.0 couldn't do that. Not enough torque. Lol.
Unlike this 82 Continental Coupe , the current one as mid size sedan have tactile automatic transmission. Such bodywork won't be made anymore as far as I know
Cars like this were once in a lifetime. It’s like sculpted plaster in residential homes. This car was a combination of mechanical parts and technology first. Today’s drivetrains are bare no resemblance of the past. These old cars had a special kind of charm. Thanks for watching, please go to my channel for more videos 📺
so happy you checked out my original Mark VI video. over the years i’ve made some progress with this “baby Lincoln”. today in 2022 i still own it and more milestones to go.
Francisco Cuevas nares , Gracias por el cumplido y me gusta mi video. Estoy feliz de compartir las actualizaciones y la historia de la propiedad. Por favor, visite mi canal a menudo para nuevas subidas.
Ford should have kept the availability of the 351 Cleveland engine through out the 80s instead of dropping it in 1982 and having the 302 as the only V8 option.
Larry Hawkins , I think it was all done to gradually transition us into smaller engines. From what I understand Ford has been dropping larger displacement ever since the later Mark V’s. Also I want to thank you for watching my video and engaging in conversation. Please check out my newest video about My Lincoln History.
Nicolas DeFranco , also detuning V8’s even up to the last generation Town Cars kept these vehicles reliable and some running well beyond 1/2 million miles. This is the biggest advantage to maximizing fuel economy. If you want maximum performance power you gotta buy a Mustang GT500.
Nicolas DeFranco , now with majority of vehicles being leased, the public focuses more on disposable technology and excitement. The thrill wears off within 3 years. The old Lincoln were like fine furniture meant to be appreciated for the life of ownership and future owners.
Beautiful car,but the 351,came with a 2bbl. Ran out of STEAM too soon. Then, the "horn button" on the signal lamp STALK. You have no idea on panic situations drivers would hit the center of the steering wheel! I swear I can hear an exhaust leak? Otherwise very quiet.
Papo Cam , thanks for the insight. the Mark VI is a unique edition in the series. I actually love the placement of the horn because it allowed for the most decorative steering wheel. this spring I plan to get a new exhaust, because the flange is splitting right after the catalytic converter. plus the muffler is probably getting bad too. much appreciate you checking out my video. more videos to come!
halo hunter , I can understand being more comforting and familiar is preferred. Just two generations prior, the Mark IV featuring a squeeze of the steering wheel filament to sound the horn. One thing beneficial of the Mark VI turn signal (press in) horn is the easy ability to make short spurt courtesy honks. Thank for watching my video, and please check out my channel for the newest videos.
Are you wanting to sell the Mark VI ? If so, I would be interested in purchasing your car ... can you translate the mileage into miles, please? What is your price, and does the Mark VI have all the options, I.e. Keyless Entry system, premium stereo sound system radio, exterior mirror on drivers side with temperature gauge, etc.? Please contact me back, and tell me, because I want this Mark VI ... thank you!!!
hello Caesar, actually i’m gonna keep my Mark VI until the wheels fall off. they are terrific cars and a beautiful drive. this video was never intended for sales use, just a shotgun perspective ride. this version is well equipped, but higher designer models will have all the features that you wish. much success on your search and thanks for watching!
Rudi Knaus , 100% correct. at the time of recording the exhaust was bad. Today 2019 I have a brand new cat back system that is smooth and much quieter. I’ll be taking the car to the Woodward Dream Cruise this Saturday. Hopefully I’ll get updated content to upload. Thanks for checking out my channel.
Dan Miller Thanks so much for watching. It’s still hanging in there after celebrating 40 years. After I replaced the exhaust the engine is behaving better. Which is your favorite Mark of all time?
Chris Rollins , one of my most recent repairs was a new exhaust and radiator. It’s much quieter now, but more improvement are in order. thanks so much for turning into to my channel. Please come again for newer videos.
PhilHewkin awesome to hear that another one of these are still on the road. after this video I purchased a new exhaust and it did get quieter. still more work for me to do though. thanks for watching!
@@xrmerkur Mine is not on the road currently. The gas tank rust out, I got another, just need to make time to swap it out. I just fixed a flat tire, the engine has 3000 miles on a rebuilt 351 M. The mpg according to FUELLY is 27 ! Can you confirm that? Mine has the overdrive 4th gear on the gear shift.
PhilHewkin i also had to replace my gas tank. in another video i talk about the process. 1980 was the first year with overdrive and I too have the 4-speed. honestly I would expect 12 mpg overall city / highway driving conditions.
Dustin Perkins , I’m glad you checked out my video. my dedication continued steady after this upload. On my channel I show the new exhaust installed and other updates. Thanks for your comment and please visit again.
thank you terje for watching! please check out my channel too. i still own my Mark VI. making plenty of progress improving the performance here in 2023
Bohemia Lite , every now and then I drop some fuel additive in the tank, but basically 87 octane. It’s carbureted, do you recommend something special for this 5.8 liter Windsor V8. I didn’t think the 351 ran on anything different than the fuel injected 302. Please advise???
Larry Hawkins , I will more consistently use higher octane going forward. acceleration has never been a problem on 87 octane, but it could use some massaging during idle. Sometimes I have to give it a couple extra throttle kicks to bring the idling down. That’s even after I’ve driven it a while too. The weather has an effect on it some days.
Love how it has all that gimmicky electronic gauges yet still has a carburator under the hood. Benz, BMW, Jaguar etc had fuel injection on their cars for quite a few years by the time 1980 rolled around.
Aaron Smith very true. this was like the transition year. believe it or not this was the first year you could also option for fuel injection. Is there a dream classic you’re planning to park in your garage some day?
These videos where no one talks(description or history) I turn off. There are plenty of other videos that will give you information. The silence is actually creepy.🤨
Mark Stevens ,thanks for watching and providing your viewing preference. good news! I have a video where I give my Lincoln History. Please check it out: Lincoln Mark VI Love - My Continental History th-cam.com/video/sP7jt73dIKU/w-d-xo.html
fuel consumption is one of the realities when owning an American luxury from this era and prior. my Mark VI has the higher displacement (only available for the year 1980). when driving in and around the city you can expect at least 10MPG. fuel economy improves generously on freeways and highways, but of course still low. I definitely keep a gas can in my trunk and a fully charged cell phone. Samiy, do you have a classic? What is your absolute favorite dream car?
rick davis , 2020 Detroit is on pause just like the rest of America and much of the world. I’d encourage you to check out how the Motor City resumes after the pandemic is over. I graciously thank you for watching my video. Possibly we both share a love for the Continental. Detroit made beautiful cars for generations but have now halted production for volunteers of the auto industry to manufacture ventilators and respirators. We want to be part of the solution. Live well and please be safe!
salsaman06 , nearly 3 years since this video and the engine is still running fine. my Mark VI is now celebrating its 40th. after all these years it’s certainly not perfect, but what a joy to drive. I really appreciate you watching my video. do you also have a project or classic car of your own? other than Continentals what other vehicles do you aspire to have?
@@xrmerkur I used to have a 1979 Continental Collectors edition and a 1995 Town Car. Don't have either anymore. Nothing interesting in the garage right now.
salsaman06 ,79 Continental and a 95 Town Car, both were beautiful vehicles indeed. The classic car game is a cool but expensive hobby. i recently came across an interesting ad for leasing a classic. that might be a good alternative for you to dip your toe back in the water.
Proud owner of Mark iv 1973. I fall in love each time I drive it. No other does that to me. Not even a lambo. Couldn’t care less.
My grandfather had a 1974 Lincoln town car 4 door it was a yellowish color
My other grandfather also from Sicily, came to Chicago. He had a copper colored 2 door 1977 Lincoln mark v
I have fond memories of both...
Philip Salamone ,thank you for sharing such vivid memories here on my channel. I’m glad special moments can be reimagined through the journey I live in my Continental Mark. Vincenzo spero che tu abbia avuto una buona visione di questo viaggio nella mia continentale.
I have a car club acquaintance who owns a 1989 Rolls Royce Silver Spur. I told him I'd love to ride in it sometime. He said, "Any time. But, your '89 Town Car is more comfortable. Don't expect much more."
Linc Merc , just goes to show how much of a standard in luxury Lincoln’s and Cadillacs were.
Thanks for the ride. Had a great time riding such a fine vehicle; a true king of the road.
Thanks for the ride man, beautiful car. There's not many sounds in this world sweeter than a 351W.
I appreciated the virtual company, Ha ha! My 351 sounds even sweeter now with a new exhaust. after this video I got some repairs done. Do you have or had a vehicle with this engine?

Congratulations on your long time ownership of such a special vehicle and piece of Lincoln history. Yes, definitely hold on to your 1st generation Town Car. As the old saying goes; they don’t make them like this anymore.

Cannon never drove the Mark V or VI on the series👈
I have more Mark VI uploads on my channel, please check them out!
these car will make a come back im sure
truthparanormal hopefully the Mark IX will someday become a reality. would forgo an SUV to buy a personal luxury car in this era?
Awesome Lincoln! Enjoy it!

Beautiful Lincoln. Love the digital 8 track deck I have never seen 1 very cool my friend
I was looking for one of these , til the SUPER COUPE came out . Love that car still
William Grant , the Ford Thunderbird was also offered in a Turbo Coupe 1983-1988.

Take care!
Nightbird, Thanks for the well wishes : )Enjoying every moment of ownership thus far. Please keep checking in as progress continues.
+xrmerkur
I will indeed keep checking..and if you do any more uploads on it that I don't comment on..please message me here.

Wow! with miles that low it must be showroom new.

But aside from all of today’s tech, yesteryears cars had a more visceral connection.

so unfortunate about the fate of both of your Lincoln’s. the one thing that all three of these Lincoln’s have in common, including mine is the panther platform. usually i give a like or a love to comments, but I didn’t want to send a happy reaction to your loss. thinking about it, TH-cam needs a care button. What's with the headliner?
Pat Garvey , you have a keen eye indeed. It is my intention to replace with a new white headliner. After nearly 40 years they get saggy and dingy. I will be uploading more content as I make improvements to my (work in progress) Mark VI. Thanks for your interest, and please come back to check ongoing updates.
Whats up with the headliner inside?
My first luxury car!! I only wish the 5.8 came with fuel injection.
Lol.

I like not having to take my hand off the wheel to use the horn.
halo hunter , I can understand being more comforting and familiar is preferred.
Please contact me back, and tell me, because I want this Mark VI ... thank you!!!
hello Caesar, actually i’m gonna keep my Mark VI until the wheels fall off. they are terrific cars and a beautiful drive. this video was never intended for sales use, just a shotgun perspective ride. this version is well equipped, but higher designer models will have all the features that you wish. much success on your search and thanks for watching!

Did you use premium.😎😜
Bohemia Lite , every now and then I drop some fuel additive in the tank, but basically 87 octane. It’s carbureted, do you recommend something special for this 5.8 liter Windsor V8. I didn’t think the 351 ran on anything different than the fuel injected 302. Please advise???
@@xrmerkur Yes use shall gas plus or premium.this will improve your engine performance and do yes iridium spark plugs only.👍
Bohemia Lite , okay 👌
Thanks for the advice. I’ll give it a try!
The factory recommended that the 351 2V V8 use regular gas. But because of this car's age premium fuel is a good idea.
Larry Hawkins , I will more consistently use higher octane going forward. acceleration has never been a problem on 87 octane, but it could use some massaging during idle. Sometimes I have to give it a couple extra throttle kicks to bring the idling down. That’s even after I’ve driven it a while too. The weather has an effect on it some days.

fuel consumption is one of the realities when owning an American luxury from this era and prior. my Mark VI has the higher displacement (only available for the year 1980). when driving in and around the city you can expect at least 10MPG. fuel economy improves generously on freeways and highways, but of course still low. I definitely keep a gas can in my trunk and a fully charged cell phone. Samiy, do you have a classic? What is your absolute favorite dream car?
