It's funny. Back in the days, I was a Limp Bizkit hater. I loved Deftones, Tool and A Perfect Circle over all, and hated mostly the rest. 20 years later I am studying music production and I am realizing that some of the best guitar compositions of this era belong to Wes Borland, especially played clean. Thank you for the medley, a year later still rules.
I was that kid that got punked and laughed at and hated ok for banging bizkit. I fkn loved them back then, and still love them now. Fk the haters, LB are revolutionaries
Wes' composition is a lot like QoTSA imo - They're soooo unique, there's nothing to compare it to. It's like they grew up on a deserted island with no communication on the outside world and made a new thing to show the world.
I always used to think he was just a gimmick. But I think I get him. Maybe like Buckethead, these costumes let him be kind of anonymous and do his thing. He's just a regular dude, quiet, with a lot of talent. It must be nice to be a hugely successful musician, and be able to live your everyday life in relative anonymity. That's how I would want to do it too. I also just found out he's a low-key watch nerd like me. I was watching a bunch of LB stuff and looking up Wes costumes/pics on Google and saw a variety of nifty vintage watches that I know weren't set pieces. Watched the vid mentioned, where he's going through all the gear he was selling and was like, word? Wearing the exact Tudor on my wrist. A lot of these analog interests go hand in hand.
That's true.... the new Limp Bizkit album sounds great because he's part of the band now.. I don't know hoe Fred Durst thought the band could do without Wes.
I've recently been rediscovering my love for Limp Bizkit. I hadn't listened to them much since I was in high school (in the early 2000s), and I had totally forgotten how awesome Wes' riffs are. Glad to be getting reacquainted!

Even tho I hate Fred's vocals he is actually a great producer among other things. He have an ear to music but sadly doesn't have a voice for it. People talk lots of s--t against him but fail to realize that without Fred you would actually not have anything out of Wes, because Wes usually comes up with random things from which lots of is tone deaf nonsense that barely anyone would actually bother to listen to and needs someone to actually direct him into the right way. This is also why Wes most times had arguments with who ever he worked with. (minus the times when he is on medication and actually lets others take directive). Wes solo projects speak for itself. They are either a parody as he call it but even the ''serious'' ones are nothing much then a bunch of nonsense that sounds like a 5 year old jammed out on his dad's guitar rig ... He have a talent but also he needs direction and someone who will bother to mix down wtf he jams out. Without that there is no music. And back to Fred, honestly he is a good frontman just wish they got an actual singer in their band, to balance everything out perfectly. Sort of like in Linkin Park they had Chester who brought actual singing to the table while without him the frontman Mike or wtf is his name would struggle to keep the band together just with rapping and they would not last at all.
as a kid with a ruff childhood limp bizkit was my jam and i remember feeling the loneliness in the music and especially the delayed guitars made me feel understood, as strange as it may sound for some ppl here. i really love wes man
Very cool! Agreed with top comment, Limp is very misunderstood; instrumentation has been next level since day one. Wes, Sam, John and even Lethal are majorly underrated.
@@n.j.crawlerconsider the massive number of guitars that he sold off - Wes had a ton of them. I’m saying you can tell this one was special out of all of them based on the wear.

I was happy when he did his Industrial side project (which I miss very much). Like to see him make another BLB record. To me, they feel nostalgic and they bring me to place that feels familiar but doesn’t exist. Don’t go off wandering is my favorite out of all. It sounds haunting
It's a real shame Black Light Burns was disbanded. Was an absolute masterpiece, where Wes had complete freedom of creativity and his style really shined in blossom

I can't beleive the comments. In the 90s limb biz kit were considered one hit wonders because their music all sounded the same. This kind of sound is real easy to emulate too you just map out the scale on your fret board and play random shit until you get a melody or chord progression. It's what van Halen did and it's what 90s nunmetal guys did.
I am obsessed with Wes’s clean tones on every album. What is great about Bizkit is even despite the sometimes immature ass lyrics etc, the music is what kept me coming back. Borland on guitar, Sam who I think is one majorly underrated bass player. Have you all heard the bass line to “You Bring Out The Worse In Me” Such a sic song, with Wes’s harmonics and other guitar portions of song just sic. Definitely inspired by Jane’s Addiction no question and I luv it. Then we have Otto on drums killn it as usual and DJ Lethal brings such a cool element to the band as well, but yea Wes Borland hands down a huge guitar inspiration. I think their best songs are always the one’s where Wes is playing cool ass clean parts alongside to also then some gnarly heavy distortion. Songs like “Walking Away” off Gold Cobra, too good. Cool video man🤘🎸🤘
I've started thinking of Fred Durst as an instrument rather than a singer. His lyrics are mostly ridiculous but somehow it works into the songs perfectly
wes style reminds me of a talented bassist that just started discovering chords. he plays with a lot of rhythm and single line melody like a bassist would
