The gohan-cell fight was the absolute peak for the series in terms of writing from both a character development standpoint and dialogue. The android 16 speech was beautiful
Out of all the iterations of Gohan I'd say Namek saga Gohan is my favorite. The outbursts of rage against 2nd and 3rd form Frieza are absolutely amazing. Also Gohan wearing the saiyan armor always looked dope 🔥
Nah not really...Vegeta and Goku got them in a lot of situations that ended up with Namek, Earth and Vegeta destroyed along with Creation of Perfect Cell and Goku Black
If that was the case, future Gohan would've been much stronger. Gohan legitimately gets stronger off of his anger. Gohan needs go though times of peace in order for disturbances to cause him to get angry properly. In the future, Gohan was desensitized to the dystopian environment around him, which is why he wasn't able to get strong enough to stop the androids.
Gohan is like Broly. Broly borned with legendary power and when Broly was a kid, he had power level at 10k. Gohan borned with beast power and when he was a toddler his power level 10k. Piccolo saw it and try to get Gohan use that power again but couldn't until superhero arc.
Great vid Geekdom. You continue to be Master Zuno when it comes to Dragon Ball. Also damn Cell looks better with the red eyes, he looks way more sinister.

Yes. Gohan was the second lead in Z, but in the recent films & Super, Vegeta has more of the spotlight. Why? Vegeta might be more popular. The role reversal may have come from the Studio and not Toriyama
There's no denying that Gohan went through the longest character development in DBZ from the Saiyan saga to the cell saga. We saw him go from a cowardly crybaby to becoming the most powerful warrior surpassing his father. However, the Buu Saga happened, which led his development to a screeching halt with problems like slacking off his training, the Great Saiyaman, and his beatdown down by Buu. By the time he became Ultimate Gohan, you think it will finally be his time to shine again, but he soon became sidelined by his old man and became a total joke throughout the end of Z to GT to Super (except TOP he actually does get some development). Suddenly, the Super Hero movie happens, and we finally get to see Gohan at his very best after all these years, and it gets better with Beast Gohan. Here's hoping we get to see more of this.
Amazing video Geek. Got me hook from beginning to end since Gohan is my favorite character. Let’s hope they continue to progress his character now with beast. Would love an Arc centered around him in the manga.
Gohan has a duty to fullfill wether he likes it or not Goku and Vegeta will not be around forever. Gohan will have to step up to be the next generation of power. He was born to go beyond his father, he literally has the exact personality of superman imo so he has the potential to be a leader, and a protector and a legend to suprass his father. Hes the first half breed sayain, a new breed of sayain with endless potential and eventually gohan is going to have to live with that.

Goku also needed to pass on the three principles of the Turtle School. There is no need to meditate, as by resting well, you ARE meditating. Gohan needs to learn how to balance his human and saiyan halves to fully achieve his status as Protector of Earth should something happen to Goku or Vegeta as demonstrated in the events of the Super Hero movie. @@michaelmayers3622

Fun fact: Future Master Gohan was literally modeled after his father Goku and his Gi as well albeit with longer upper arm sleeves, especially when he presents himself to Trunks and Bulma and even more so towards the Androids. The reason for this not entirely clear but reading the available info and watching the subbed interviews with the production team at Toei and Mr. Toriyama. The main point was to bring back familiarity with the fans and make adult Gohan a father figure to Trunks. As the old saying goes. "Your child is the spitting image of you". Because naturally children are supposed to look like their parents. That's my take on the matter.
That's not really true Goku NEEDED to become a super saiyan on namek or else frieza wins because the spirit bomb failed that's it there was nothing else to do after that same with gohan vs cell come on geekdom lol

Damn bro, not gonna lie, you accidentally made me shit my pants with a couple of unintended jumpscares. 😭🤣 I'm just chilling here with a couple painkillers in me, relaxing in bed in my dark room dozing off to sleep while listening to the video. Perfect vid to just listen to and reminisce on the history of DBZ and remember all of the different scenes in my head.... ...But then suddenly out of nowhere it goes from relaxing low volume dialogue, to loud as fuck music during the transition cards in between the chapters. I don't know if the music got amplified weird for some reason inside this strong ass Pioneer 7.1 channel AV receiver... who knows. Whatever the case is, that shit damn near gave me a heart attack the first time it happened. Caught me off guard and I was JUST about to fall asleep lol. Was the music(especially at the beginning of chapter 2) significantly louder than the dialogue for anyone else or is it just my PC/speaker system?
He’s done this a lot in a lot of his older videos. It annoyed me back then and hoped he would realize the audio levels were so off during those transition spots

Even on my phone it was loud af. 😂 I guess(when editing) maybe he just didn't take into consideration that some people would be putting on the video while trying to sleep. Love how in chapter 2 you played gohans rage track and then chapter 3 played the epic one of my favorite Japanese anime tunes Unmei no Hi: Tamashi tai Tamashi love this track an moment in the show still my favorite saga and moment of all dragonball 🎉❤
Toriyama obviously felt otherwise, but another five years of Gohan-led DB would have been very cool. There are a lot of interesting and fun threads set up in that early part of the Buu arc. Especially if you had Videl pushing Gohan to be a great warrior in a way that his Chi Chi would not.
Great video. My only hope is they do SOMETHING significant with this beast form. I pray that they dont yo-yo our emotions when it comes to Gohan being a little more consistent. What i mean, is they have him do something kind of cool and then yank it away and its back to the books. Just let him build on this transformation for a little while. Stay relevant for more than an arc. I would love for him to be a big hitter in the upcoming black Freiza arc. My only worry is they're also building up Broly right now, too. Can they manage Building Broly, Gohan AND keeping their main powers to be, Goku and Vegeta all relevant at the same time? If they can figure it out, giving each their shine, it's gonna be EPIC.

I've come to appreciate Goku's selfish traits. He's not human so I don't judge his character as one. He loves to fight and it can make him a little silly sometimes. He's not a human Father. Don't judge his character as one. I get pissed at him too. I think that's the point. If he wasn't hit on the head he might be way worse than Vegata...by nature.
I mean considering the character of "Son Goku" is based off of "Sun Wu Kong" from "Journey to the West", it's no wonder Toriyama went back to Goku as the main character. You can literally say Goku and Vegeta are the good and bad versions of Sun Wu Kong from that story!!

Gohan's spotlight remains in 2 areas for me, Cell and the awakened Gohan in the Buu saga. However, Buu saga that form didn't actually do anything as Buu just absorbed everything. Very confusing times as a manga reader.
Gotta love how these video creators criticize the English dubs of Japanese manga/ anime, and then proceed to pronounce race names. (Saiyan being pronounced as Siyun instead of Say-un). Smh
With Gohan's potential I'm honestly surprised he didn't lean ssj almost immediately after seeing Goku ssj, before going to the room of spirit and time.
Because SSJ isn't a reflection of one's potential, it's just forcefully tapping into a portion of it. SSJ is either activated by emotional stimulation with sufficient power to withstand the forceful transformation (power Goku lacked at the time of Krillin's first death and Gohan lacked at the time of Krillin's second death) or you inherit a cheat code from a parent who already had it.

People always mistake broly for having a higher potential, remember though broly is around goku and vegeta's age and he grew up with a shitty parent on a violent scary planet. Now imagine gohan growing up on Vampa instead of broly, no damn books or easy moments at all, he wouldn't have the same mentality as he does now but he'd have the same potential, and remember what happens to his potential when his is in scary situations, now imagine those literally every single day. Broly's potential ain't shit if you put those things in perspective. I mean it's cool that broly got as strong as he did during his fight with goku and vegeta, but he was already twice gohans age so that means all the hell he went through on vampa wasn't enough to get him past lets say frieze saga power up until the fights started, whereas gohan got passed and beat down cell like nothing and he was only 10 to 11 so...

Gohan is my 2nd favorite character after his father but I did love the cell saga ending with him being the strongest after training with Goku, too bad he got push down after but it kind of makes sense with his calm nature and the fact he doesn't enjoy fighting opposite to goku and vegeta
I completely disagree with you on the part about the power comes in response to a need rather than a desire! If you pay attention to Goku & Vegeta first Transforming into a Super Saiyan. Both of there transformations came from a need not a desire! They didn't know about that the transformation came from pulling the form from making your back go tingly. That was the point that was making about how you can will power from a response on need not a desire to go the next level but I need to protect your love one.
I'm so tired of people saying Gohan wouldn't have won if not for Vegeta. He helped distract cell sure, but if Gohan wasn't more powerful than Cell, it would've been truly meaningless... Gohan was leagues above Cell in strength even at half power.. he just got discouraged on top of being injured, and having a low spirit can apparently affect your power as well. It was mostly Goku giving Gohan the encouragement to keep pushing and release his true power. I'm glad Geekdom took a second to talk about it.
It did seem like they abandoned gohan midway after the buu arc. Like he has all this development. Manages to defeat cell. Owns half of the buu arc but after he got absorbed by buu. Never really saw his character get any major moments afterwards. I can tell they wanted him to be the one who takes over after goku, but were to afraid to take the risk.
the fact that the original series ended after buu just made the shift to "GOKU TIME!" just so pointless and unnecessary. one of the reasons why the buu saga is my least favorite of all original DB and Z sagas.
Sorry to say it is truth that goku fan at asian and japan do not want to replace goku for gohan in buu saga in the 90's . Asian Goku fan know because sun wukong can not be replace because he is god to fan. 90's fans are very serious about changing main character.

The thing that always struck me was how different Cell/Gohan was from Goku/Freeza. The latter over the course of their fight really got personal. But for both Cell and Gohan the other was more of a means to an end. I do appreciate by the End of Z that Goku and Vegeta have accepted Gohan isn't a fighter. But I also note real humans can enjoy fighting as well so I'm mixed on that aspect of Gohan's character.
It’s not exactly his humanity that makes him not want to fight but it did create a life where he found other interest besides fighting as where Goku/Vegeta are biologically driven to fight over anything. Even the other half saiyans don’t display the type of fighting spirit the full saiyans have because kid trunks/Goten treat it like a game usually but aren’t really pushing their limits because they also have other interest like girls and gaming, comics etc. Future Trunk’s only got as strong as he did because of the situation he was in but it was clear he only got stronger because he had to not because it was just something he wanted to do, I’d say if he lived in a peaceful future he would’ve been more like present timeline trunk’s or ran CC with his mom. Chi Chi had Gohan in them books since he was a kid it would feel like a waste of her time if Gohan didn’t do anything with his education.
@Echo-nn8dt The problem is none of hybrids want it. I can accept it with Gohan but it seems like none of the next generation see it as their primary interest and I find it weird and kind of immersion breaking that none of them would.
@@specialnewb9821I think it makes more sense that they don’t take it as seriously than it would if they did because of the relatively regular lives they lived compared to Goku, Vegeta & Gohan, who pretty much was forced to fight and grow up pretty early (physically and mentally) even though he’d rather live a regular life. At that point they’d just behave like 100% saiyans but the interesting parts about them imo is how different they are from their fathers….now I would LOVE to see them get stronger and get into more serious battles by themselves but I can understand why it doesn’t happen as often, Goku, Vegeta & everyone else is around so they will always be the ones to steer the show over the kid. I do like the saiyaman X 1&2 arc as much of a drag it was to get through monthly but I’m hoping we get to see them do more in the next arc. Cheers to chapter 100.
Not to be dramatic...but I lost my mom 2 years ago...if there was even a possibility of me being able to bring her back...it would be my highest priority like Gohan with piccolo.
I am a Gohan fan myself, and although I like Gohan being the strong, cool character that he is at times, I am ok with him staying with his family and if that makes him weaker, then so be it. I'm fine with that because that really feels like it fits with his character. Gohan is just way too human. Gohan was born on earth and raised in human customs and things like that, so he will definitely be more human, and it shows that when he is portrayed as weaker and with his family, because that's what he wants. He wants to be with his family. He wants to be a dad and be there for, and with his daughter as she grows up, he wants things that most other people want. It's like that little instance in the Goku Black Arc where Future Trunks met Adult Gohan and his family and he was sad that he didn't have that, because as cool as they are in fighting and gaining more and more power and just being cool and bad-@$$ you have to remember that they are still people. They have wants and desires and other things, because from their perspective, Gohan and Future Trunks, you always have to fight, you always have to struggle, you lose things and it's hard to just go on, they have losses and life is hard and they wish for their lives to get better. Looking at it that way and in that constantly fighting lifestyle there is barely any peace, if any, and you don't have time for yourself or your family, and you will have a lot of pressure on you and you will be struggling all of the time and so many things where you will feel overwhelmed, and you think about your family, and that things could be better and wishing that it wasn't this way and that things were different, having all this weight on your shoulders and just to a point where you can't be with your family and all of you cannot find really any real happiness if you're not there, and then it just gets to a point where you are overwhelmed and it feels like you want to quit, like you are sick and tired, you're tired of being sick, you are sick of being tired. That is what this would most likely do, maybe not everyone, but it is that way with Future Trunks and with Gohan, because of the pacifist that he is I feel like this is how he will be. That is why I am ok with Gohan being weaker and being with his family and things like that because that portrays his character very well because it shows that he is different from Goku and Vegeta and he is a more down to Earth, human, individual, who is just living and trying to achieve happiness and other things in life, and that is what makes him a great character in my opinion, not his power, just his personality and characteristics of a good man who shows that even though he has the power he is still a person, not a warrior per say. It gives you that human, peace loving side to Dragon Ball with Gohan. That is what I think about Gohan. Tell me what you all think.
I definitely get what you're saying and to a certain degree, I actually agree with you. I think my issue, is they built him up for so long, and put so much into him being a prodigy, that fans that really loved DBZ and grew up with him, wanted for him to at least stay relevant. At the end of the day, this is a show, when at it's best, is about fighting and stakes of said fights and huge, amazing Ki blast and transformations and it's what made so many fans fall in love with Z especially. Him having his own family, should incentivize him to stay strong to protect them. It's not him having a family and living his dreams that sits wrong with people.. it's the fact the it went from where all of Z was a legit build up of how amazing this prodigy is and how he is different and then he just falls off a cliff. It's like watching a piano prodigy start off from not knowing the keys, to playing a masterpiece (cell saga) and then forgetting how to play all together and being relegated to "that guy that can play mary had a little lamb". Idk, I probably didnt word it the best, but that's my 2 cents. Lol
I would really like an arc about something happening on king yamas world just like Fusion reborn movie to introduce Jenamba to Super and they can make him hell powerful with absorbing Souls to powerup
I genuinely feel like there doesn't NEED to be a focus on Gohan and I also don't think DB focuses on Goku anywhere near as much as the online fandom portrays. Everyone plays their role in the end.

Toriyama obviously felt otherwise, but another five years of Gohan-led DB would have been very cool. There are a lot of interesting and fun threads set up in that early part of the Buu arc. Especially if you had Videl pushing Gohan to be a great warrior in a way that his Chi Chi would not.
Great video. My only hope is they do SOMETHING significant with this beast form. I pray that they dont yo-yo our emotions when it comes to Gohan being a little more consistent. What i mean, is they have him do something kind of cool and then yank it away and its back to the books. Just let him build on this transformation for a little while. Stay relevant for more than an arc. I would love for him to be a big hitter in the upcoming black Freiza arc. My only worry is they're also building up Broly right now, too. Can they manage Building Broly, Gohan AND keeping their main powers to be, Goku and Vegeta all relevant at the same time? If they can figure it out, giving each their shine, it's gonna be EPIC.

I've come to appreciate Goku's selfish traits. He's not human so I don't judge his character as one. He loves to fight and it can make him a little silly sometimes. He's not a human Father. Don't judge his character as one. I get pissed at him too. I think that's the point. If he wasn't hit on the head he might be way worse than Vegata...by nature.

I mean considering the character of "Son Goku" is based off of "Sun Wu Kong" from "Journey to the West", it's no wonder Toriyama went back to Goku as the main character. You can literally say Goku and Vegeta are the good and bad versions of Sun Wu Kong from that story!!

Gohan's spotlight remains in 2 areas for me, Cell and the awakened Gohan in the Buu saga. However, Buu saga that form didn't actually do anything as Buu just absorbed everything. Very confusing times as a manga reader.
Gotta love how these video creators criticize the English dubs of Japanese manga/ anime, and then proceed to pronounce race names. (Saiyan being pronounced as Siyun instead of Say-un). Smh

With Gohan's potential I'm honestly surprised he didn't lean ssj almost immediately after seeing Goku ssj, before going to the room of spirit and time.
Because SSJ isn't a reflection of one's potential, it's just forcefully tapping into a portion of it.
SSJ is either activated by emotional stimulation with sufficient power to withstand the forceful transformation (power Goku lacked at the time of Krillin's first death and Gohan lacked at the time of Krillin's second death) or you inherit a cheat code from a parent who already had it.

People always mistake broly for having a higher potential, remember though broly is around goku and vegeta's age and he grew up with a shitty parent on a violent scary planet. Now imagine gohan growing up on Vampa instead of broly, no damn books or easy moments at all, he wouldn't have the same mentality as he does now but he'd have the same potential, and remember what happens to his potential when his is in scary situations, now imagine those literally every single day. Broly's potential ain't shit if you put those things in perspective. I mean it's cool that broly got as strong as he did during his fight with goku and vegeta, but he was already twice gohans age so that means all the hell he went through on vampa wasn't enough to get him past lets say frieze saga power up until the fights started, whereas gohan got passed and beat down cell like nothing and he was only 10 to 11 so...

Gohan is my 2nd favorite character after his father but I did love the cell saga ending with him being the strongest after training with Goku, too bad he got push down after but it kind of makes sense with his calm nature and the fact he doesn't enjoy fighting opposite to goku and vegeta

If you pay attention to Goku & Vegeta first Transforming into a Super Saiyan. Both of there transformations came from a need not a desire! They didn't know about that the transformation came from pulling the form from making your back go tingly. That was the point that was making about how you can will power from a response on need not a desire to go the next level but I need to protect your love one.

I'm so tired of people saying Gohan wouldn't have won if not for Vegeta. He helped distract cell sure, but if Gohan wasn't more powerful than Cell, it would've been truly meaningless...
Gohan was leagues above Cell in strength even at half power.. he just got discouraged on top of being injured, and having a low spirit can apparently affect your power as well. It was mostly Goku giving Gohan the encouragement to keep pushing and release his true power.

Like he has all this development. Manages to defeat cell. Owns half of the buu arc but after he got absorbed by buu. Never really saw his character get any major moments afterwards.

You misquoted the dub. Goku said that power comes IN RESPONSE to a need not a desire. And that Gohan had to create that need.
the fact that the original series ended after buu just made the shift to "GOKU TIME!" just so pointless and unnecessary. one of the reasons why the buu saga is my least favorite of all original DB and Z sagas.

The thing that always struck me was how different Cell/Gohan was from Goku/Freeza. The latter over the course of their fight really got personal. But for both Cell and Gohan the other was more of a means to an end.
I do appreciate by the End of Z that Goku and Vegeta have accepted Gohan isn't a fighter. But I also note real humans can enjoy fighting as well so I'm mixed on that aspect of Gohan's character.
It’s not exactly his humanity that makes him not want to fight but it did create a life where he found other interest besides fighting as where Goku/Vegeta are biologically driven to fight over anything. Even the other half saiyans don’t display the type of fighting spirit the full saiyans have because kid trunks/Goten treat it like a game usually but aren’t really pushing their limits because they also have other interest like girls and gaming, comics etc.
Future Trunk’s only got as strong as he did because of the situation he was in but it was clear he only got stronger because he had to not because it was just something he wanted to do, I’d say if he lived in a peaceful future he would’ve been more like present timeline trunk’s or ran CC with his mom.
Chi Chi had Gohan in them books since he was a kid it would feel like a waste of her time if Gohan didn’t do anything with his education.
@Echo-nn8dt The problem is none of hybrids want it. I can accept it with Gohan but it seems like none of the next generation see it as their primary interest and I find it weird and kind of immersion breaking that none of them would.
@@specialnewb9821I think it makes more sense that they don’t take it as seriously than it would if they did because of the relatively regular lives they lived compared to Goku, Vegeta & Gohan, who pretty much was forced to fight and grow up pretty early (physically and mentally) even though he’d rather live a regular life. At that point they’d just behave like 100% saiyans but the interesting parts about them imo is how different they are from their fathers….now I would LOVE to see them get stronger and get into more serious battles by themselves but I can understand why it doesn’t happen as often, Goku, Vegeta & everyone else is around so they will always be the ones to steer the show over the kid. I do like the saiyaman X 1&2 arc as much of a drag it was to get through monthly but I’m hoping we get to see them do more in the next arc.

Gohan is to this day, my favorite character
I am a Gohan fan myself, and although I like Gohan being the strong, cool character that he is at times, I am ok with him staying with his family and if that makes him weaker, then so be it. I'm fine with that because that really feels like it fits with his character. Gohan is just way too human. Gohan was born on earth and raised in human customs and things like that, so he will definitely be more human, and it shows that when he is portrayed as weaker and with his family, because that's what he wants. He wants to be with his family. He wants to be a dad and be there for, and with his daughter as she grows up, he wants things that most other people want. It's like that little instance in the Goku Black Arc where Future Trunks met Adult Gohan and his family and he was sad that he didn't have that, because as cool as they are in fighting and gaining more and more power and just being cool and bad-@$$ you have to remember that they are still people. They have wants and desires and other things, because from their perspective, Gohan and Future Trunks, you always have to fight, you always have to struggle, you lose things and it's hard to just go on, they have losses and life is hard and they wish for their lives to get better. Looking at it that way and in that constantly fighting lifestyle there is barely any peace, if any, and you don't have time for yourself or your family, and you will have a lot of pressure on you and you will be struggling all of the time and so many things where you will feel overwhelmed, and you think about your family, and that things could be better and wishing that it wasn't this way and that things were different, having all this weight on your shoulders and just to a point where you can't be with your family and all of you cannot find really any real happiness if you're not there, and then it just gets to a point where you are overwhelmed and it feels like you want to quit, like you are sick and tired, you're tired of being sick, you are sick of being tired. That is what this would most likely do, maybe not everyone, but it is that way with Future Trunks and with Gohan, because of the pacifist that he is I feel like this is how he will be. That is why I am ok with Gohan being weaker and being with his family and things like that because that portrays his character very well because it shows that he is different from Goku and Vegeta and he is a more down to Earth, human, individual, who is just living and trying to achieve happiness and other things in life, and that is what makes him a great character in my opinion, not his power, just his personality and characteristics of a good man who shows that even though he has the power he is still a person, not a warrior per say. It gives you that human, peace loving side to Dragon Ball with Gohan.

I definitely get what you're saying and to a certain degree, I actually agree with you. I think my issue, is they built him up for so long, and put so much into him being a prodigy, that fans that really loved DBZ and grew up with him, wanted for him to at least stay relevant. At the end of the day, this is a show, when at it's best, is about fighting and stakes of said fights and huge, amazing Ki blast and transformations and it's what made so many fans fall in love with Z especially. Him having his own family, should incentivize him to stay strong to protect them. It's not him having a family and living his dreams that sits wrong with people.. it's the fact the it went from where all of Z was a legit build up of how amazing this prodigy is and how he is different and then he just falls off a cliff. It's like watching a piano prodigy start off from not knowing the keys, to playing a masterpiece (cell saga) and then forgetting how to play all together and being relegated to "that guy that can play mary had a little lamb". Idk, I probably didnt word it the best, but that's my 2 cents. Lol
Honestly Adult Gohan/Ultimate and “Teen” Gohan are my favorite versions of the character. He’s always been my Favorite Saiyan Warrior
