We documented a side-by-side (ATV) trip to Moab Utah. I literally had about an hour of flying time. Beautiful videos even having such a low amount of practice flight time. Not sure how difficult it is to get these devices in your location, and price matters. IMO, the EVO II is the best buy, especially if you're looking for top-notch video recording.
Well, the Mavic 2 Pro has a much larger surface area when it's at an angle forward. The drone design is more focused on low profile when hovering, to avoid the tilting of the aircraft, but not so much for high speed.
This is interesting. The larger drones might have more power but they are also larger in size and thus the wind acts against them more. Nice wind test. I have the Evo 2 Pro also and last week ran into some heavy winds here in Chicago. Had the same issue you were experiencing but I was in normal mode not ludicrous. I figured the obstacle avoidance was limiting the angle the drone could fly at, so I switched it off (just touch the green OA symbol in the upper right hand corner of the screen) until it turned red. Evo 2 then easily handled going into the wind at its top speed in that mode - 22 mph. Did not try it in ludicrous, but my guess is it would probably work the same. Try switching off the OA when going into the wind and see what happens. I see the MP2 switches off the OA in Sport mode, probably the same issue - OA was preventing a steeper angle.

Thanks for the video very helpful I have the mini 2 think I will stick to mini 2 and not fly in the strong winds the cost of the more expensive drones is the problem
I have the original Mavic Air and it does pretty well in the wind. Top speed 45 mph and I fly it at the coast all the time. My favorite now is the mini2 but it does seem to drift while flying in sports mode even with no wind. There must be a mass/weight factor in there as well. Nice comparison video.
Nice video, Ian. However, in my opinion, I think a better test to include for any wind rating test of all the drones would be "how do they hold position and stability in such strong winds?" Reason that is relevant is that is where you are going to be filming and/or taking photos. I have an Autel Evo 2 Pro, and DJI Mini2 + Mavic Air 2: while all fly for speed just as you show here in this video, for actual video or still photography, the E2P provides a rock steady platform even in high winds, and the results show in the videos I have recorded with it along the coast here in Southern California, with some very high, gusty winds on the bluffs at the beach. I also never had any doubts about getting it back to the launch point, something I have had with my Mini 2 for the obvious reasons you demonstrated here: Your point about returning with the wind is Spot On critical at those times! Also - The E2P RTH function in the wind is still more accurate than either of my DJI birds. Lastly - I recommend turning off the Radar Map in the Autel Explorer and DJI Fly apps: gets rid of the annoying beeping while keeping the OA benefits. Keep the excellent vids coming - I like the views from around the UK!
Hi there. Good points. I've found all the models excellent for producing super-smooth video when stationary; I guess maybe a better test is a 1 second still picture using a dark ND filter to extend the exposure time. That would show how well the drone is holding it's position.... But ultimately, this was a good bit of fun, just to make sure none of them blew away! :)
Hi Ian! Great test. Thanks for doing this. The most surprising thing for me out of this test is that video performance from the Evo II is so pretty! Cheers!
Yesterday I flew my Mini 2 in winds around 17mph (around 27.35kph). It did fine in both normal and sport mode flying forward but it did have a bit of trouble holding the altitude when hit with 25 mph (around 40 kph) gusts. The app showed the compass and IMU as normal but I think I'll recalibrate and try again on another windy day. Nevertheless it does only weigh 249 grams so if I try flying into a tornado I don't expect it to hold it's position.
Great test! I have the M2P and Mini 2. My new Air2s will be here in 2 days (just sold my Air2), so this was a very pertinent test for me! You flew the M2P and the Evo higher than the others. I wonder if that had any affect? Thanks for the great video!
Ian an observation- you flew the mini and air 2 at 15m ( less wind) above ground the 2 pro at 25m. The autel between 17-23. I’m not surprised at the results- I think the pro 2 got unfair comparison as it flew higher than others -that said i have Mini 1 and M2E both great to fly flown in windy conditions both handle well the M2 pro series are great bits of kit , Thanks for your videos always. Good to watch and learn something new most times 😁
Yes, I noticed that in editing.... I don't think there's a huge difference between 15 and 25metres tho, as usually the wind gets far stronger above 50 - 60 metres...
@@IaninLondon I guess but at over 20-25 m less cover from trees - but yep get your point -thanks anyways Ian I always enjoy your posts 😁. “Mark in St Albans”

Really interesting test Ian, was surprised the Autel did not perform as well. DJI seem to have the air dynamics right. I would guess the Mavic air 2 would perform similar to its upgrade the 2s👍
Great video. The good old mini 2 always surprises me in a good way. Would have been nice to have seen the DJI FPV and how that would handle the high winds.
I honestly thought the Mavic 2 was going to take the win. Considering everything I am glad I chose the right drone. I can't believe the Air 2s beat out the Mavic 2 Pro. I did think the Auto was going to do better than it did. If it was the size of the Mini 2. I think the Mini 2 would have beaten Autel. I currently own and started with the Mini 2 as my 1st drone. I later into fall added the Air 2s and then finally the Avata! I sure hope to see more future tests for performance like this on other drones. Maybe, Mini 3 Pro, Avata, DJI FPV and whatever else you can get ahold of. You have a great testing area there. What a great place to do wind tests! Thank you for the video! Hope to see more!
Thank you for the information! The weight factor and mass for each drone is significantly different, which is one of the reasons why your results came out the way they did. Another drone person on TH-cam loss their Air 2S, because it did not handle properly in the high wind, and their Mini 2, did a much better job in the wind that day. Did you see their video? I appreciate your hard work and effort in providing everyone with the best information and results from all of your drone tests!!
@@IaninLondon there's a little more to this than mentioned..! The Mini2 was kept to the coastline (protected), the Air2s was sent out right off the coastline and got caught in v strong winds....
Good vid, answered some of my questions. I’ve been a Mavic Pro flyer for years and just recently got into the DJI FPV drone. While I was watch someone’s video I noticed when he hand landed his done, instead of using the controller to shut it down he just tilted his wrist 90 degrees and it stopped the motors. Been doing like that it ever since. Wish I would have known this years ago.

Wow thanks for the video, I live in the Shetland isles our average winds speed almost year round is nearing 20mph winter months anything up to and over 60mph regularly our drones are fighting the wind every time we go out, we have a mini 1 and an inspire 2 mainly doing visual inspection works, mini 1 is our go to as the inspire take so long to set up, when the wind drops we have to head out at a moments notice, keep up the good contents..
Great video. I’ve had the Autel Evo 2 pro for the passed year. Like you said is a beast of an aircraft. Looking at yours you’ve got the new low noise props. I’m lead to believe the older props are better. I’ll have to go out and do a comparison between the old and new props.
Great test. I think I can count on one hand the times I have had trouble with the wind flying drones, maybe because I respect bad weather in the first place and like sunny days to shoot video at. However, the DJi FPV in manual or sport does not care about wind at all in my experience, so strong moters, it just goes like a rocket ship.
Good work ! Appreciated! But If make use the little attitude ball in lower left conner of dji go app will provide more visual evidence to prove how strong the drone was heading in the wind.
Awesome video Ian, though at 07:00 when you said the Air 2S was limited to "68 kilometres per second" I thought, flipping heck that's quick, works out at just under mach 200 😉🤣

I have the mini 2 and liked it but got the Air 2S last week. Not much flight time yet, but I love it so far. Both videos and photos better quality. Nice to see it can handle wind this well too.
@@boomboom9479 my initial mini 2 had awesome videos, but the pictures weren't really impressive. I found them really soft. However I sent it to DJI for repairs and they ended up sending me a brand new one instead. Totally different serial number. That ones pictures are noticeably better, not sure why. In the meantime, I had bought the Air 2S. I don't see huge improvements over picture and video quality, but they are better for my taste. But if I would've had that replacement mini 2 before purchasing the Air 2S, I probably would've stuck with that second mini 2. That said, I almost exclusively use my Air 2S because it handles wind better and obstacle avoidance too. If these 2 things are really important, go for the Air 2S, but if not, the mini 2 is awesome still for what it does at less than half the price.
Unreal! So the second cheapest kicked the most ass! Kind of wish I had gotten one now at costco when it was in sale. Mahalo for this comparison test video.
Great video! I almost lost my mini 2 flying it off a mountain pass in California and it barely made it back. Another reason I'm considering upgrading to the Air 2S. It would have been interesting to see if you had real-time wind speeds to compare. Just based off the swaying branches of the trees around you the change in wind speed appeared to be constantly changing. Was it slightly less when you flew the Air 2S and strong for the EVOiiPro? Would have been cool additional data for the experiment. Thanks for posting!

Had the air 2s for a couple of weeks coming from P4P and i just love it in the words of David Dickinson "it's the real deal " Great video thanks Ian
But no where near cheap as chips..😉
The higher you fly, the stronger the wind. Interesting tests.
Very true; I should have stayed at same height for all 4, but only around 10 metres difference....
Air 2s combo all day errday boiii
Great test!. I got the air2s to film windsurfing so it looks like I made the right decision.
Congratulations. Very impressive Drone ,many thanks
New to the channel and to drone flying.I love the work you do and beautiful landscape.great information thank you.
Thank you for the video sir! It was very informative and aided in my decision in my next drone purchase!
Interesting to see the comparisons in real life vs manufacturers claims!
Liked!!! It's a surprise that the air2S perform well compared to 2Pro. Thank you for sharing Ian. Best regards from the Philippines.
Hi Ian! Great test. Thanks for doing this. The most surprising thing for me out of this test is that video performance from the Evo II is so pretty! Cheers!
It's a rainbow of obstacle avoidance! :)
That's helping me to make a decision to go get the Air2s. I'm still flying my 3 year old original Mavic Air. Time to upgrade!
You will love it....
Very impressive strong wind test, thanks for sharing!
Ian an observation- you flew the mini and air 2 at 15m ( less wind) above ground the 2 pro at 25m. The autel between 17-23. I’m not surprised at the results- I think the pro 2 got unfair comparison as it flew higher than others -that said i have Mini 1 and M2E both great to fly flown in windy conditions both handle well the M2 pro series are great bits of kit ,
Thanks for your videos always.
After all these videos about the mini 2 being the only drone you need - glad the Air 2s scored some point back.
Wow good test! I’m in Sydney coastal area usually 30-40kmh, think I’ll skip mini 2
Nice video Ian. I always appreciate how you advise others to fly out agains the wind so that you can have an easier time flying back home. My regards to the dogs. Please scratch them behind the ears for me. Bob
This sounds like a philosophy of life 😂
Really interesting test Ian, was surprised the Autel did not perform as well. DJI seem to have the air dynamics right. I would guess the Mavic air 2 would perform similar to its upgrade the 2s👍
The Air 2s was the only one that didn't had that strong wind warning! It means that it can handle more....
Sherlock Holmes
@@karlparn2369 😂😂
Great video. The good old mini 2 always surprises me in a good way. Would have been nice to have seen the DJI FPV and how that would handle the high winds.
The fpv wouldn't have blinked at the wind.....👍🏻
I like it when manufacturers don't make empty promises
Awesome clip, now I have some idea of what to expect out of my Autel 640T.
You gotta love DJI Gimbals!
Thank you for the performance testing comparason. Liked and subscribed.
Mavic Mini and Air 2 really have very good video transmission.
I am unsure why the Mini 2 would do better than the Air 2 S on the same windy day...
@@IaninLondon there's a little more to this than mentioned..! The Mini2 was kept to the coastline (protected), the Air2s was sent out right off the coastline and got caught in v strong winds....
The Air 2s is my first drone ever to own and fly, so I guess I have set the bar really high for the next upgrade in a distant future.
thanks for ur efforts and testing, learned alot from this video.educational
Good vid, answered some of my questions. I’ve been a Mavic Pro flyer for years and just recently got into the DJI FPV drone. While I was watch someone’s video I noticed when he hand landed his done, instead of using the controller to shut it down he just tilted his wrist 90 degrees and it stopped the motors. Been doing like that it ever since. Wish I would have known this years ago.
I don't like flipping it down as it's stress on the props and motors.... I keep the left stick down to stop the props, but that's my take.... :)
Very Great Review, if we were comparing Camera Quality, The Autel Won Hands Down, but I was surprised that it didn't reach its highest speed into the wind's, Great Review Brother. Sincerely your freind from Mo Rick and God bless 🙏 you and your family
Well done Ian all drones home safe again, very interesting results thanks for sharing another great TEST, regards TJK UK.
Perfect! Congratulations on the content, a hug from my City Águas Belas PE and from Brazil.
Cheers!!
Great review! Absolutely magnificent. Unfortunately due to scarce space (I ride on a motorcycle) I can manage to carry just a DJI mini SE, but this is a great video to see it's capabilities. Great job!
The most
important thing, the dogs have fun 🥰
Yep 🐾👍🏻
Wow thanks for the video, I live in the Shetland isles our average winds speed almost year round is nearing 20mph winter months anything up to and over 60mph regularly our drones are fighting the wind every time we go out, we have a mini 1 and an inspire 2 mainly doing visual inspection works, mini 1 is our go to as the inspire take so long to set up, when the wind drops we have to head out at a moments notice, keep up the good contents..
Just keep those props in good shape on the Mini... Change them if you get th warning. Cheers, Ian
I should have had the FPV out in this test too...
Yeah, but how well does the gimbal handle in the wind? Oh wait... :-)
Definitely a good video thanks for sharing
That's amazing. If I had to buy a drone today, I'd go for the Air 2s.
Good work ! Appreciated! But If make use the little attitude ball in lower left conner of dji go app will provide more visual evidence to prove how strong the drone was heading in the wind.
Passando pra prestigiar aquele like e fortalecer o canal 🤜🤛😉✌
Awesome video Ian, though at 07:00 when you said the Air 2S was limited to "68 kilometres per second" I thought, flipping heck that's quick, works out at just under mach 200 😉🤣
Yep. Noticed that in editing..... Hence the pop up sub title 🤣
Me (trying to learn about drones): "Wow, those are some impressive stats on those advanced pieces of technology."
Also me: PUPPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
XD
Very interesting results! Would have expected more from the Evo....!
It’s funny when we had the strong winds over the bank holiday I thought Ian would be out there. Love the random dog appearances too!. Disappointing Autel performance. Air 2S looks most capable
6:21 he isn't batting an eyelid in this wind, trees and branches aren't moving half as much as much as for the mini smh🥴
The more I see of the Air 2 S, the more impressed I am with it. I would love to see you do a comparison video between the Air 2 and 2 S. Is the extra price tag worth it?
Thanks so much for the review, really enjoyed it.
I have the mini 2 and liked it but got the Air 2S last week. Not much flight time yet, but I love it so far. Both videos and photos better quality. Nice to see it can handle wind this well too.
@@66cotter How are you finding the Air 2? Is it worth the extra cash you pay for it over the Mini 2?
Nice comparison, mate!
A wind test with the Inspire 1 would be intetesting
Brilliant ian really good test. Absolutely love the dogs 🐕 😁
Great test just got my new air2s when flying do I need to turn of WiFi or Bluetooth on phone or iPad any advice please
Very interesting test with interesting results, thanks for sharing.
I did each model twice and got the same results each time. But yes, ideally, I need more pilots and to fly simultaneously . Cheers!
@@IaninLondon reaffirms my decision to get the Air 2S then!
Really enjoyable and informative test, as usual. Thanks Ian.
Awesome vid especially since it’s always windy here.. or it’s always windy when I want to film. Thanks for doing this!
No worries Dewie! I included the bit on finding your drone and using the satellite layer with you in mind...... ;)
@@IaninLondon I did notice that lol. I also went flying just for practice yesterday as I clearly need it. Also, I am about to get into the groove of publishing again and I’m looking forward to telling that drone’s recovery story soon.
