3 things: 1. Instead of going back and forth trying to make the wheel patterns fit together (after 31 min.) you can duplicate the pattern by hittin ALT+D. Then the duplicated object will inherit the object when moved, so it easier to fit together. ALT + D is very good for doing changes when you now you want to modify them later on. 2. You can also copy the modifier from the pattern, so you don't have to do the array and empty again. By hitting CTRL+L and "copy the modifier" 3. And as BrunoDSL mentioned, use calculation on the empty for the precise angle. (360 / array counts)
So how do you do this lug nut array currently? I'm not seeing the eyedropper he used. I think an update has changed this from working. I've been following this tutorial and hit a wall half way.
This was great I watched it during class and it was simple enough for me to retain all of the information, yet, informative enough for me to make a damn good tire for a Burton/Nolan Bat-Mobile hybrid I'm working on.
Hello from Tajikistan !!!)) Man! I started 3d modeling just after watching your tutorials some years ago! Now I'm an indie game developer and 3d graphics designer. And every time trying to improve my skills in 3d. And any of your tutorials shows me something new, or some new technique, and tricks on how to make modeling more simple and more interesting! Keep going on this, I'm waiting for new excellent tutorials!
Quick tip, you can use a separate object, say the vehicle, for your mirror modifier instead of altering the origin point, on something like wheels, particularly if you want to animate it later, you don't really want to change the origin point.
Thank you, I'm just begging to use blender, easy to follow by explaining the steps and keys as you go! this type of step teaching for a beginner is priceless information. again thank you for taking the time and posting these types of videos.
I was using the Chris Plush technique to make tires before, but yours is so much easier and has much less performance cost. Plus, you can't really tell the difference unless you zoom really close in the tire for a render.
A better way of doing the polar array with the correct division angle is by setting the axis of rotation of the empty with dividing the angle you want by the number of occurrences of the object in the rotation field. Blender will do the division and give out the correct angle.
great video. a few tips: instead of using shift+D to duplicate the tire tracks for the other side, use alt+D, it will copy the mesh data so that if you have to adjust it, you dont need to keep duplicating it over and over to the other side. Also when you rotated the first array empty (in this example) for the track you rotated it 80 degrees, when you mirror your tracks to the other side, you rotated the second empty -10 degrees, the numbers mirror each other since 80° - (-10°) = 90° hope someone finds this useful!
This was a great way to learn how to do a tyre. The only thing that bugged me (And this is nit picking and a bit OCD on my part) Is that the outer tread blocks had a sharper angle at the bottom, and the inner treads looked like the notch and top of the one below it were supposed to line up. But it still looks good.
thank you thank you, the First TH-camr not mix high-dose cocaine with caffeine and on top of that, it sets 100 times the speed. I don't get dizzy with you 👍
Here i were! i know how to make at tire! got new tricks tho! been learning blender like 4 dats Edge split is game changer! :D Thanks for the video! Edit:i was gonna go to sleep, but now ya made me open Blender! =D
Curious as to why you circle select the faces and delete them all when you are removing end caps rather than select the central vertex and delete it which, I think would also delete all of the tri faces? Just easier to show what you are doing in a TH-cam video or some other reason due to the topology or avoiding future modelling/texturing issues? Nice video BTW, thanks!
So there is no eye dropper to select the empty. Im lost at 16:14 What's the current way? I feel by the time i have a beginner understanding of how blender works they might update it all away.
when I do it the tread goes in a spiral and it goes farther and farther away from the tire and each tread peice gets bigger, I keep looking back at this and i checked everything correctly I just dont know why it spirals off of the tire
I am really confused. At 28:09 when you select the array to move around the plane axes, my treads do not curve around the wheel. Does anyone know if I might have skipped a step or something?
at the 3:00 mark you switch to line select mode and the lines get thicker. What setting affects this? I haven't been able to get blender to do this since 2.79
I've followed along as close as I could....in 4.1.......all goes fine until suddenly some things simply don't work on my keyboard. Ctrl A does not bring up an apply scale menu for example.....just nothing. Searching the manual says apply scale is an "editing" menu.......but I don't see "editing" anywhere either so I got stuck there . Sigh.....words . Shift A does not bring up an add menu / Shift S does not give me a scale control.
Shouldn't you have an option to group the meshes (type ctrl + group, keeping isolated modifiers) instead of joining them (ctrl + j)? it would be very interesting ...
Hey ! I hope it’s not too late :) Depending on the situation you may have different options ! If you want your separate objects to move, scale or rotate together as one but without joining them because of the modifiers, you can use the « parent » option. You just have to select all the objects you want to connect (the last one should be your « core » object - like the biggest one for example) and then : right click -> link/parent (I’m sorry I can’t remember how the option is called) If you have the option enabled, you may see dotted-lines coming from the origins of your linked objects directly to your main object’s ! Ask me if you need more explanation :)

I'm here from Skillshare. Would you mind creating a tutorial on Cosmetic products? like lipstick or powder surface? If you could. I have trouble finding any help on that. for that sort of specific surface material, do we apply the surface or just creating texture paint and import the colour from an actual photo in Blender?
Hi! A cosmetic type of surface can be achieved in blender through normal mapping and materials, using either photos as textures or generated textures through nodes. Look in to -photoshops- adobes new 3d handler built for displaying 3d corporate products easily.

This blue print doesn't look 100% right, that is often the cause, looks weird if you stick to the blue print, end up weird and not like the real thing, can better look at picture and make it like it look likes in real life and not follow the blue print 100%, just use it as base mesh guide and use pictures for the final tweaks.
Note for people using 3.X, instead of using edge split at 8:25, use alt-m "faces by meshes"
Alt M gives me Faces by Edges and Faces and Edges by Vertices, not Faces by Meshes.
best comment,bro💪💪
4.2 Alt + M Faces by Edges worked for me. Thanks for the work around

Beautiful tutorial. Did not have to rewind once. Clear, precise. Thank you!
Even if you ‘re not making wheels, this is a great tutorial! Thanks! I keep on creating my Peugeot J7 RV!

Funnily enough, this was the exact tire I was looking to model in Blender. Big mcthankies from mcspankies

finally, a tutorial with understandable explanation on empty functions and usages on making wheels. thx :)
Such a great tutorial. Thanks!
I came here for one thing and learned a heap load. Bless you

As you were talking about the smoothness of the object, just kept thinking of the solution I always default to: mesh - normal - reset vectors

Wow nice. For treads I used the inset option and then the extrude option.
Thanks foe this free tuitorial, its great

Great tutorial, you explained so good!
This looks easier and give much more control over the other method which requires curve.

Amazing work 🔥❤️
amazing! thank you!

I have the answer please subscribe my channel "agrakanyan" you will get the answer
Your empty is in the wrong place. The array modifier also takes in to account its position and scale.
If anyone else has this problem go to Object Mode, Ctrl+A, make sure Rotation and Location are zero'd out for the new empty AND the duplicate tread
Awesome!
You’re too good at this god bless you more
謝謝作者詳細的教學...
Nice work How do you make your suspension taller
What I am must to click if I don't have "Edge split"!?
Oh cool, Prof. Lile is bak.
Are there non-destructive ways to do step 29:12. My tire pattern wouldn't line up 100%.
at 8:26 edge split is not an option for me. i have the most current version of blender.
why does his cylinders have center vertice in the both flat planes?

Yeah, it seems to be a version thing. That was in 2.8, but it doesn't seem to be as prominent now in 2.9.
Hi,sorry I need your help ,I fail to use empty oblects (circle and axis) in turning the tread pattern into a circle

Edge split and create new object does not seem to work the way you show anymore.
why is not working in 3.1 version?
The spike going every angle
3.1 is currently an alpha version. I'd suggest always using the stable version unless there is a compelling reason to do otherwise.
