  • Finally got around to reviewing the 1023RL. To see some of my work created with it: www.dannypops.com
    I'll add that I had the saw unplugged while changing the blade for those who cringed during that change out.
    www.starbond.c... Trying out the starbond stuff for cracks in wood. Looks easier than epoxy.

    Safety tip: when your loosening the arbor nut, place wrench on the arbor shaft fitting and allow the wrench to rest on the table as you pull the arbor nut side wrench toward you. This will naturally secure the shaft/blade as you turn loosen the arbor nut, giving you much more control, and help avoid getting cut due to slipping.

    Thanks Danny, I've been looking at this saw and your review answered the questions that I had. In particular, the ability to roll the saw out of the way so I can get my cars back in my garage workshop. I have been using a Kobalt job site saw which is meeting my needs but now that I've been at this hobby for five years I'm ready to level up. Again, thanks for a good, honest review.

    I'm an amateur DIY woodworker as well. I sold my last table saw Craftsman Hybrid table saw 22124 to buy a cabinet saw, but 30 minutes after selling, the washer broke down. I have been without a table saw since, which is approximately 3 years. I've had a couple mobile jobsite table saws, but they weren't very good. I was thinking of buying the Grizzly G0870, Ridgid R4512, or the Delta 36-725, but I think you are right. If you want to build quality furniture, you will need quality tools. Now, I just have got to convince the wife I need it.

    Just ordered the 1023RLW tonight. It was definitely a big purchase, but I'm so tired of mediocre equipment even though I'm just a weekend wood worker with slightly above average skills. Your video helped push me over the edge and take the plunge. Thanks for sharing.

    I had the 1023slx with 6' rails. Used the heck out of that saw for 10 years not one issue. It still passed the nickle test when I sold it. The beismyer fence rock solid design. I purchased it for 1200 and sold for 800. Only sold to go up to 5hp ss. Great saw.

    Danny, I have the same table saw and yes it's a awesome saw. A tip, connect a dust collector to it. If the DC is a powerful one, it will be about 90% cleaner in the cabinet. Keep chipping away.

    A great review of the saw. I have 3 of these and all are before this revision to the 1023 series meaning the new ones have a dust port surrounding the blade and the use of an elevator mechanism to raise the blade as opposed to the older swing mechanism. A friend of mine does have one of these and he reports that a zero clearance insert and dust collection is almost a must as the dust port fills rapidly and starts to throw sawdust back out the top of the saw. He also reports that any small pieces that do get past the insert do indeed plug the dust collection and on the 4 inch ports my saws as well.

    Nice review, thanks Danny! Question on the rolling base: I have a fairly uneven slab that I'm planning on setting up a saw on so I assumed I'd need adjustable screw on feet to level any saw that I get. What kinds of leveling adjustment is there on the Grizzly rolling base?

  • @thatguythatdoesstuff7448
    @thatguythatdoesstuff7448 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are definitely quality differences between Grizzly and something like SawStop or the Delta Unisaw. You can see it in the trunnions primarily, where Grizzly's trunnions are pretty rough castings and the others are better designed, better casted and have better machining.
    But like you implied, diminishing returns. I have the G1023RLW. After initial set up and some issues getting it to run on a 240v 15 amp circuit (it simply won't), I'm quite happy with paying half the cost of a Unisaw and almost 3x less than a SawStop.

  • @michaelboisvert7821

    You mentioned that your Delta table saw broke within a week. I have intermittent issues with my Delta 36-725T2 (15 amp, Lowes exclusive) getting power, but not starting and I can hear a humming/buzzing sound. I've had it for about a year and a half. Is this something you experienced with your Delta. Although I have a 5 year warranty, I am already looking for a better saw. From what I understand, this may be a capacitor issue. It's pretty annoying to have a weekend project planned and then have the main tool fail me.
    I like the fact that the 1023RL has a cast iron table and a cabinet saw would be a nice upgrade. Are cast iron extensions available for it? Thanks again.

    • @DannyPops
      @DannyPops  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah thats the lowes exclusive I got, immediately broke after a few projects. The 1023 has a few variants that have longer extended cast iron I believe. I added a cast iron router plate to mine which basically is an extension (not a grizzly product but was from their website)

    • @jonathanbaba1068

      Probably because casters were set to mobile not stationary.

    • @jamesk3415
      @jamesk3415 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonathanbaba1068 Yeah, I saw that. But what bothered me was the entire cabinet twisting. It should still be rigid when moving the table saw around. Clearly not thick enough gauge of steel in the cabinet. I can't say I'm impressed with G1023 saw. The South Bends table saws Grizzly sells have much more beefy cabinets.

    • @alclark5409
      @alclark5409 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or he has no dust collection on that saw so the height and angle gears are coated in sawdust making adjustments painfully difficult. Clean your gears and run a dust collector or get a saw that does a better job isolating debris from gearing.

      Some newer Delta saws were shipped with bad starting capacitors. Delta has since rectified this problem which is easily fixed with a replacement capacitor. I am not aware of Delta motors burning out. I have had a Delta table saw for 15 years and not had this problem. The saw still cuts well and has an excellent fence.

      @@jstasiak2262 I'm mainly referring to the Delta saw that is sold at Lowe's. Most of the negative reviews talked about the motors burning out. I think it's an electrical issue from using a nondedicated circuit.

    I think that a review is always entitled to the experience of the reviewer. You may think you cant justify an increment of 500 usd on a similar specs saw until you have used both and see what 500 usd difference makes.
    Grizzly saws may work but they are very bad designed, bolts are awkward possitioned, hard to reach. The fences are meh at best, blade adjustments are stiff. And man the dust collection is crap. You say most of them are like this but you are waaaay wrong.

      Your post is a false equivalence .
      A 3hp delta uni saw its at least twice the price of the taiwan saws , like Grizzly ,Laguna ,Jet , Shop Fox ,Harvey etc.
      Delta is in another league altogether l it's a rubbish comparison . Grizzly is still the best all around saw from the taiwan saws in terms of having cast iron trunnions , a very good fence but not spectacular like a Beis. and probably the best customer service of all the saws above . Laguna looks pretty but compadres to a grizzly they are trash . underpowered ,aluminum trunnion, and the worst customer service on the planet . so Delta ? sure , if you need a production saw that can run all day and not get tweaked out of its settings . but for hobby guys and even a lot of small cabinet shops a tawain saw will do for a stater saw and probably last a very long time .
