The Los Angeles Lakers are known for the greatness, flair, style, and dominance throughout the years and have had their fair of Superstars like Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. While both have had their flaws in leadership. Both are deadly in the clutch and can win the big game if necessary. In this video, I will explain the simplest reasons why Kobe is still greater than Lebron James through pure tangible evidence. In the video I attempt to be as fair as possible, primarily talking about their tangible skills and criticizing both's biggest accomplishments. I will not be evaluating statistics very heavily, because these are 2 completely different players in 2 completely different situations/systems. I have no problem with someone having Lebron above Kobe, because LBJ is a great player, however, I challenge you to prove that LBJ is a better player without using the statistics argument. Definitely leave your thoughts down below, keep it clean, or your stuff won't be seen. If I messed up a stat definitely correct me below! It's like some mfs think that if you don't agree that Lebron is god then you have no basketball iq. Take that homo stuff out of my comments and go find yourself. TheBlackRanger X : I always say that being the best (or arguably the best) in your era (which LeBron’s is really 2012-present) doesn’t automatically qualify you to be in the GOAT conversation. Otherwise we would still be talking about George Mikan and Oscar Robertson.
LeBron isn’t even top-10 in my mind. I count 10 players that I would take ahead of him in a mock all-time draft. It only gets dicey when we get to Dr. J. LeBron edges him out.

When you ask players you’re getting more organic answers. They speak according to whom they had to work hardest against. They speak according to which player they would rather face during a long stretch in which they need a night off. That’s credible asf!
I know this, the six players most other players would LEAST want to guard, even if they could become the size of the other players, are Kareem, Magic, Jordan, Wilt, Kobe, and Shaq.
Those guys are nightmare matchups for anybody. LeBron, he’s a quitter and a complainer. Elite players can get into his head.

I totally agree with this video and not because there's a threat to hide my comments in case I didn't. I want to make that clear to begin with. I do want to elaborate on this though. The common thought is that Kobe was the better one on one player whereas LeBron was the better team player but I beg to differ. Although I agree that a prime Kobe would have smoked LeBron in a game of one on one, he was also the better team player. His resume speaks for itself but I can explain further. For one thing, triple doubles (especially when there is 25 or more points scored) are highly overrated. It means that you're playing "hero ball" and leaving your teammates flat with nothing to do but watch you perform. You want to score most of the points, make all of the important passes, grab the majority of the boards, etc. That's what I call "selfish basketball" and it's the exact reason why Russell Westbrook has not won a championship and Oscar Robertson never would have either if it were not for a prime and dominant Kareem Abdul Jabbar. People love to call Kobe "selfish" because he focused more on scoring but why not? If you're the best scorer on your team why shouldn't you be taking the most shots? It would be stupid to put the ball in someone else's hands if they can't make a basket! I would call that smart basketball, not selfish basketball and the reason why Kobe was more successful in winning championships comes down to this... If LeBron is coming full force every game and isn't leaving his teammates with anything to do, he's going to lose because it's been proven over and over that one man can't beat 5 no matter how great he is. Wilt was a testament to that. On the other hand, who cares if you're a ball hog when you're the best scorer on your team? At least you're giving your other four teammates a chance to contribute through four other productive categories. They can still get assists, rebounds, blocked shots and steals. One category for each player which is still playing TEAM BASKETBALL. People have this all wrong. LeBron is the more selfish player, not Kobe and that's exactly why Kobe is 5-7 in the finals and LeBron is 3-9. Case closed.

    • @theblackrangerx530
      @theblackrangerx530  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Loll, I did come off a little harsh at the end but that was because I've seen how rabid and nasty people get when someone doesn't exalt their favorite player as the ultimate gift to mankind and they get violent as hell in the comments. As you can see, down below there are people who disagree that can voice their opinion, its just that if you get reckless I won't allow nonsense on my channel that's all. But I created this channel so that hoops fans could have a platform to speak openly about players, teams, history without coming for each other. I appreciate you clarifying in the beginning though because Agreeing just to agree is not what we do around here. Good take, triple-doubles and stats have clouded many individual's from being able to see the game on a macro level. What stats do is tell a story that a player wants you to remember and not usually how the game went. I've seen Larry Bird get doubled and avg less than 20ppg in a series but lead his team to victory because he is drawing lots of attention freeing up his teammates. These fans now are just too lazy to go watch the old games themselves and see what really happened. Hockey assists, and rotating properly are some of the many things that don't get tallied in the stat sheet that great players make happen. Timing and control of the shot clock don't show up on basketball reference and honestly just show some fans lack of understanding of the game. Rondo is a player i use to illustrate this all the time. People may think that Elfrid Payton and Rondo put up similar stats but Rondo is a master at controlling pace and seeing a play 3 steps in advance. Players like Lebron and the Westbrook of old usually fill up the stat sheet so that when things go wrong they can always say that they did their jobs. Alot of the time, they pile these points up in garbage time or when they've clearly won the game and the coach won't take them out. People do realize that in both the 81pt game and the 60+ in 3 quarters, Phil Jackson took Kobe out early... Kobe sat out the whole 4th in the 60+ in 3quarters game against the great Mavs and wasn't able to add to that stat sheet. Stats schmatz in my opinion for alot of these debates and really should only be used for a quick summary(synopsis) of a situation not deep analysis. Definitely Subscribe got more heat coming soon(Friday)!

At the end of the day, nobody was better at putting the ball in the basket, while keeping you from putting the ball in the basketball on the other end. That’s what it’s all about. A prime Kobe would drop 40 on anybody’s head and lock you up on the other end.

Karl Malone was 40years old Gary Payton was 35 years old = clearly not in there primes
Kobe 2004 was a far cry from 2003 Kobe (which was the best year of his career and at the peak of his athleticism and skill set)

  • @TieOnRadish
    @TieOnRadish 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

One of the biggest reason for the hype is due to the fact that Lebron is a 'current' player.
If everywhere they say current players are not as good as previous generations, people would quickly lose interest for the sports. Why would you want to watch significantly less talented players? They actually tried to promote Kobe in the same fashion as well before but because he was too similar to Jordan, it was more apparent who was better.
I don't have statistics but in the early 2000s around Lakers' 3-peat, Kobe and even T-Mac were rising to the occasions, fans were curious if they can overthrow Jordan and NBA was still relatively popular. After Shaq left Lakers and it was apparent Kobe wasn't going to threaten Jordan's Crown, the popularity was down. It was when Lebron started winning a few and media could make up a few arguments to hype him up, the NBA regained its popularity.
I'm sure when Lebron retires and then a few year passes, we'll have another player promoted in a similar way.

Finally someone with some common sense. I respect LeBron's game but the way he goes about the business aspect (playing GM) disgested me. Kobe only wanted a trade but made sacrifices to get the job done to win more. Personally if Kobe could have played in the same era type format in the 90s as they do in the 00s, Kobe may have even more statical foundation even with a season ending injury. #Lakers4Life

Stats Schmatz that's how I see it. When comparing the greats we gotta talk about skills, wins, intangibles, and the little things. Bron I love the guy on the court but he definitely covers up the trail of evidence because lazy people don't want to go watch tape of old players to see that some were better. That's why stats are so "important"

I think the comparisson to wilt is a great conversation. Lebron is a stats warrior that is in a superhuman a body. But does he have that element that gives him more greatness than Jordan or Kobe? Kobe and Jordan never let other teammates control the whole game. Kobe & Jordan played stellar defense. Locking down good players and not being locked down by great defenders. Kobe & Jordan had unbelievable footwork and creativity. Lebron is more of a machine and a brute force. Also, you can’t fake championships. He still needs a couple more if he even wants to be in the goat conversation. How can you be the goat without covering a whole hand in rings.

For all the simps who claim that Kobe got carried by Shaq, go look up the MVP race for 2002-2003. Kobe finished over Shaq at the #3 spot while Shaq finished #5 with Kobe receiving almost 5x as many points. Kobe also finished above Shaq in the 2003-04 MVP race by 1 spot all while on the same team. Shaq won 1 MVP in 2000 while they won the chip so don't say that Kobe only won when they didn't win because Shaq in the other years didn't win MVP either. Those 2 were a 1-2 punch and were equals never get that mistaken. Some simps who want to say that Kobe was carried... okay go watch tape, Shaq had major trouble staying on the court with his health and Kobe had to carry the load alot during Regular season. Go look at their game totals for the seasons. Stop listening to media, go watch tape and research the ins and outs of the game!

But I am a Kobe fan and I know its not. loved how respectful you were to both players.
Could you make a similar video on why Kobes a worse version of Jordan? personally i think he's a better version. he perfected Micheals game, added the Hakeem dream shake, had better handles, better scorer, faster, quicker, better footwork. Phil Jackson says he's better if I'm not mistaken. he said something along the lines of, "no one should model their game after Kobe, cuz you'd never master it. because no one works as hard, not even Michael." Id love your take on this cuz you are super respectful and won't slander greatness to prove your point.

These comments...they just prove how GREAT Kobe as player was.
I read this on reddit once.
No one, I mean NO ONE is mentioning injuries and shots they took as well as respect for the game.
When I said injuries, if you're older than 25 you instantly remember Kobes injuries and not LeBrons, because there are none on LeBrons part.
When I said shots they took, you instantly think of Kobes fadeaway shots he is known for while LeBron like said in this video, takes open shots and in todays era without defense its just that much easier for LeBron.
When I said respect for the game, did you think of LeBrons flopping and resting mid season ?
Or did you think of Kobe playing injured, even in offseasons with comments like "People pay their hard earned money to come watch us play, imma play"
You can take anyone you want but I will always go with Kobe just for his sheer respect for ME, I know he will give it his all, all star game or regular game, doesn't matter to him.

Excellent Video and I respect your points. Still LeBron is the better overall talent IMO. From 06-16 he was the dominant alpha on his team. No Phil Jackson/Tex Winter, no Jordan off season instruction, no Jordan Vets, No Shaq.
From 07 on, this man took you to the Conference Finals min every year on his back (incompetent Cavs Managment). Is he a Diva now at the end of his career? Sure is.. but that doesn't take away from his accomplishments.
Dont forget Kobe had to beg Lakers brass to bring back Phil and got Gasol/Bynum bigs to win. Don't get me wrong, Kobe is fantastic, but prime LeBron was no joke.

I remember watching Lebron as a kid in that 06- + era. MANNNN he was scary, dude was a freight train that literally had an unstoppable engine and frightened everyone who got on his hip. I have to give Lebron his credit because he really is an All-Time top 10-5 player no doubt about it depending on how you rank. The main reason I view Lebron's failures with a more critical eye is because I grew up watching the snowball effect of excuses begin growing for Bron. In 2009 when he lost to Dwight, both were evenly matched and ORL was without their leading scorer in Jameer Nelson. People say that CLE had no answer for Dwight that's why they lost. Well why didn't ORL not have an answer for Bron if that's the logic. In 2010 I understand. 2011 This was LBJ's opportunity to erase every bit of failure from his resume by proving that with the proper help he could win. And he failed miserably by not being versatile enough to play off-ball of Dwade who was balling out that series. I can respect anyone who has LBJ over Kobe for the reasons that you stated but when people just whip out stats and say Kobe got carried that's where I get frustrated loll. I really appreciate someone who is respectfully debating without taking pot-shots at anyone's intelligence. Good take brodie

    • @Getloose360
      @Getloose360 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@theblackrangerx530 same here bruh. You present your logic eloquently. I appreciate it in particular with regard to a topic that is esentially subjective. Something you bring up which I never considered were their circumstances. Kobe had to earn his spot good as he was and played with All star talent and veterans from jump that helped him. Getting Jackson early on was huge for his career. Jax and Tex were like yup, We can mold this kid and he listened, 6 chips gets you a players ear.
Remember what made MJ great was his fundementals and willingness to buy into a system (courtesy UNC/Dean Smith, which is why Zion will be special)
LeBron has always been the Alpha to his detriment.
You can tell he's just used to being the focal point and that hurt them in Miami in Year one, BUT that's more Spo/Riley than LeBron, think about it (1. They had to spend to sign the Big Three and basically gutted the team of any real shooting honestly 2. Riley should have coached them, winning a chip with basically a rookie coach is a stretch.)
Dude didn't play college ball, never played with equal level talent (early), never learned how to truly defer, never played with a coach with Chips in the holster, never had veterans to really learn from, played for an extremely poor organization with no culture and still won chips. 🤔
Lastly: LBJ ranked #2 All time playoff performances. www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23651740/ranking-50-greatest-individual-postseasons-modern-nba-history

There's a youtuber by the name is ChroniclesOfJudah144 and his logic at times are on point. However, his narrative on Kobe seems very bias. For example, he says that Kobe is not a top 10 player and is around 11-15 range with Moses Malone, Isiah Thomas, Oscar Robertson, etc. He claims that Kobe was highly overrated and was overrated as a defender. Most of his take on Kobe is negative. Now, with LeBron is kinda the same but he has LeBron ahead of Kobe because LeBron brings more to the table. He also says for players to make his top 10, a players has to either the greatest at his position or in the discussion of who's better than who. His ranking is listed as
    1. Michael Jordan
    2. Kareem Abdul Jabbar
    3. Bill Russell
    4. Magic Johnson
    5. Larry Bird
    6. LeBron James

He acknowledges that Kobes true greatness as an all time player was during kobes last 3 straight finals, which is true to some extent, but he wants to disregard all of his earlier work.

Let's be real, as a product of the 90s my opinion will be biased via exposure. But IMO, I think Kobe was the most talented scorer and greatest ISO player of all time, and that's not to draw from his later years of reducing his usage rate and playmaking abilities and his almost decade of being all NBA first team defensive. One could argue that Kobe is the GOAT based upon this. Lebron has time and time again made an entire conference obsolete and took his team to the finals. From his court general playstyle, to his insane athletic abilities, and his consistency one could argue he's the goat. MJ is DIFFERENT though, he has the court general and athleticism of Lebron, And the lockdown defense and capability to score from anywhere like Kobe. Now Kobe is more skilled in creating a shot and scoring outside in general, and Lebron is more athletic and a far better passer court general than MJ, but neither of these legends are all in all better than MJ. Now I can only speak post 90s because I never watched 60s-80s basketball, but MJ is the GOAT of recent years.

I agree Kobe is greater than Lebron at the game of basketball. The point of the game is to win not to be a stat stuffer. Lebron has great numbers because that's what he cares about. Kobe has more wins because that's what he cares about.

Why lebron is still regarded as the best player today. When he doesnt play defense and guys like curry, kd, harden, giannis, embid, pg and kawhi are already better than him offensively?.

Man even if bron gets 6 his record is still worsse than kobe so even then y'all still not gonna say he's in the goat conversation.
And here's the thing. Bill has 11 with a record of like 5 traight not as good as mj w/ 6 straight but come on that's a pot of rings. And another thing. Knowing who and what kobe is, who would you rather pick, kobe or bill? Bill can't do what kobe does. They play different spots but bill can't give you 81, 12 threes, 17 ats, all them handles, and ridiculous contorting reverse dr.j layups.
So is it about the wins, or the record?
And is it about the record or the skills?
I got kobe over all them. Screw mvps cause they have know idea who to give them to. How did iguadolla get the finals mvp for goden state? And then they have co mvps for all starts but not regular season even though kobe and lebron both won mvps in 2008. Talk about double standards.

I would take Jordan over Kobe for various reasons and not to disrespect Kobe at all. I will be doing a video on this in the coming Week and look out for it. I also have no problem with anyone having Any player as their personal GOAT however I just think that we all have to be consistent in our measuring sticks. I can see why you might think that and I can respect it

I personally have Jordan over both LBJ and Kobe obviously, and have LBJ and Kobe tied for second. Theirs just certain things that LeBron has done that I personally believe Kobe couldn't. For example, I don't think that kobe would have been able to lift last years cavs to the finals. Nothing against Kobe, but LeBron seems to make bad/okay payers good. I don't believe kobe could do that to that extent due to his style of play. Although, there are certain things Kobe has done that I don't think LeBron will EVER do, such as hitting back to back free throws on a torn Achilles, dropping 60 in his last game, or scoring 81 points. While Kobe is more clutch in terms of willingness to take the last shot, LeBron was never scared to take it, he just wanted to pass it if he thought someone else had a better shot, which again comes down to play style. This is why, at least currently, I have them tied.

MJ and KOBE are the two kings, no argument needed period. One proof LBJ cannot win a tittle without any other SUPERSTAR,,,, KOBE did it twice (2009-2010)

  • @BishopM1

Kobe came into the league onto an already very good Lakers team. So he couldn’t start over guys. AI could, he came onto a bad Sixers team. LeBron was drafted onto a horrific Cavaliers team, so he had to play and was by far their best player. And I don’t begrudge LeBron for going from team to team, but then don’t come to me talking about GOAT. Free agency didn’t come until 1988, so players couldn’t just come n go. And LeBron has had just as much help as Kobe, and far more than MJ. He has built every team he’s had since 2011, and again, I don’t begrudge him for that, but if you build a team, no excuses. None. When LBJ wins, he barely wins, by the skin of his teeth, when he loses he gets blown out. LeBron can only play one way, in the LeBron system. When he plays an intelligent team in the finals he gets blown out. Kobe’s 2004 finals performance was horrific, but Bron’s 2011 performance was worse. When JJ Barea and Jason Terry outplay you and you’re supposedly the best player on the planet, that’s a problem. While a win is a win, he only beat the ‘13 Spurs after he bricked the game tying shot, and Ray Allen hit it for him, and Bogut got injured. Steph and Andre were injured the whole series, and Draymond got thrown out, AND Kyrie had to hit the game sealing 3. The series shouldn’t have been that close to begin with, LeBron since he’s the best player on earth should’ve had THEM down 3-1. Draymond, Klay, and Steph or Kyrie, Kevin, and LeBron. Who should win that matchup. Difference is GS actually played in a real system and let the coach coach, and not played free-for-all playground basketball aka the LeBron/Russell Westbrook system. Now some of you might say “Paxson hit the shot for Jordan” well the Bulls were up 3-2 at that point, so if they lose that game it’s still game 7, it wasn’t do or die for that shot. “Steve Kerr hit the shot for Jordan” well, at the huddle before the shot, Jordan told Kerr “IF THEY DOUBLE ME BE READY”, he didn’t just give him the shot cause he was scared to take it or couldn’t. And again, that was game 6, they’re up 3-2. One thing LeBron has over Kobe is that Kobe had one of the greatest coaches ever, LeBron has never had a coach nearly as good, but that’s partly his fault too. They’re both all-time greats.

Quality of all stars is different when people say LeBron didn’t have help compared to Kobe there saying LeBron never had a player like Shaq who is a top 10 player of all time. D wade was not himself after 2011 and in the 2014 finals it was obvious he was done. Honestly Kyrie was probably his best teammate because Kyrie only improved through their run together

I think this would of been the case if you said it before last season. The reason why I say this is because i dont believe kobe could of made it to the finals if he swapped with lebron in the playoffs. But I understand some of your points though if it comes to taking a shot or scoring I'll pick kobe any day it just depends on the team once its that level.
