    Good video I have a.177 impact mk2 also.22barrel I find swapping the barrels over quick but it's time consuming settings the scope I think airgun 101 should be called fx 101

    I've done lots of experiments on pellets and slugs. I've even super glued a .177 by on top of a crosman hollow point.
    I've even had H&N rabbit stoppers get stuck in Weihrauch barrel.
    For sub 12ft lbs accuracy, the best results come from using a pellet that best suits your barrel.

      Agreed, find the best pellet and stick with it, slugs in sub 12 ft/lb 👎

    Or a rifled barrel like my HW 77. Oh yes , try a rifled barrel to ! But not the cheapest one ! 👍

    I'd say slugs are for the lucky people in America and some other countries, or those that don't have a criminal record/any mental health issues or drug issues in the UK and that apply for and can get an FAC.

    Hi James another great informative video.
    Although I must I have not had the same luck with the sportsman gun Center Dorset.
    I am on my 3 fx radar and a replacement Nikko Stirling scope and just sent back a 12g ata max5 with a trigger problem, a 240 mile round trip 4 time a 1 more to pick up my 12g. 11 day turn around for a 20 minute job.😡😡
    On a good note my .25 fac fx impact mk2 is an absolute beast and can’t wait for your opinion on the new barrels 700mm superior liner.
    Saving my hybrid slugs for now.

    Great video. I found the same they were not as accurate as pellets so not much use at any distance. Also the the guns shoot about 1flb less using slugs compared to pellets from my guns. Interesting to see how you go power wise.

    I tried .177 prohunter slugs in my sub12 air arms s510 and got extremely good groups at 25,35, and 50 yards only problem was a loss of power ( 9.8ftlbs with 13g slugs) instead of 11.8ftlbs with 15g H&N sniper magnums pellets , i think with a bit of tuning the guns power can raised a bit to compensate for the power loss but it will then be a slug only gun due to the legal limit, i think as it always is with airgun shooting ,its a case of trying as many different slugs as you can , if thats what you want to do with your air rifle

    • @michaelbritain5546
      @michaelbritain5546 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't specify what the Police use to test the ft/lbs of an air rifle, it'll be the heaviest pellet that takes the gun to the highest power level that they'll use, slug gun's don't exist.

    It appeared by observing the holes in paper, that the slugs were keyholing badly, striking tail up and smearing lead on the paper. If the slugs aren't stable at 200fps or whatever the anemic 12fpe requires then of course they won't be accurate or expend energy correctly. For proper expansion, the mass of the slug must be aligned behind the tip. Thanks for putting in the work and for the regulator warning not to leave the Impact with the front half discharged. (other video)

    • @ReplicaReviews
      @ReplicaReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi steven, as mentioned in another comment below, this was torn paper as there was no wood behind where some of the slugs had landed.... where there was wood - the holes were clear. so in this instance - not tumbling...

    Hi James , my new fx Crown is no good with the Fx Slugs.... total waste of money . It's as you have shown they need fac power . Grouping is terrible. Hades is a better choice .... Great Review James .... take care

    • @ReplicaReviews

      Cheers simon. For sub 12 i’d be tempted to stick with pellets like the hades. There will be people that want to run slugs, but for most i’d say just work with pellets. Thanks again. James

    Great video james and don't see many of these comparisons at all as most people dismiss slugs as fac only.Interesting to see what fps a sub foot 12poundair rifle is actually putting out with these slugs though.

    Hi. I tried out H&N Rapid Hunter´s in my HW 77k in .177 in my early´r 17 fpe . And those came baerly out of the barrel . I was afraid the breech seal blow off !! But these slugs are copper plated .

    Great video proving that honestly slugs are not worth it sub12. They won’t stabilise properly at low speed. The very thin wall in the hybrid means it will expand but again if you can’t hit your target what’s the point. Have done the same tests in both fx and LW and although the LW barrels work a bit better I would still say a pellet will do the job for half the price. If you chrony them you will also find they are probably well below 12ftlb but as they carry the energy you still get a good splat.

    • @ReplicaReviews

      ReplicaReviews very different story if over 12ftlb then they really shine past 70m. Am about to try some light weight 177 slugs in a sub12 which could prove interesting though as the should have the speed to stabilise

    Really enjoyed the video I can get Pro Hunter .22 17.8g slugs to leave my barrel at over 11 ft lb in my Wildcat MK III. They group really well at 30m and they deform well, it will be interesting to hear your chronograph results?

  • @lensman5762
    @lensman5762 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lets keep one point in mind. The only practical use of slugs is in shooting live targets. There is a point that the speed of the projectile is so slow that the target can and will dodge the projectile. I have seen it happen many times. I am a firm believer of fast projectiles. Personally I consider the power of a sub 12 air gun marginal for shooting live targets even @ 40 yards. I think one is much better off sticking to an accurate and fast pellet. Much cheaper too. A 40 ft.lbs FAC gun is a different matter.

    Hey James what's going on with the camera focus? Is that a lockdown haircut your sporting lol. I had a feeling your results would be as they were as your totally right regarding the weight side of things. Looking forward to part two and thank you for taking the time to make the videos as well

    • @ReplicaReviews
      @ReplicaReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi steve, the focus on the camera can go a bit mental when it's hot... the camera seems to struggle in warmer temperatures - but it's the only camera i have... usually its fine but it has its moments. as for the hair; absolutely, i've worked all the way through lockdown and theres only a certain amount of long hair, heat, uniform and a fairly physical job that one person can tolerate before the horse clippers start to look like an appealing option! i'll get part two up as soon as it's completed, thanks! james

    Good review, I have tried fx hybrid slugs in a wildcat mk2 smooth twist x. 22 sub 12 ft and i gave up because the slugs were getting stuck in the barrel. So is that why you don't have the shroud and moderator on so you push the slug back out?

    • @ReplicaReviews
      @ReplicaReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No the barrel was a spare; thus didn’t have a shroud on it - i had planned to use a mod but forgot the barrel is actually shorter than the bottle - so couldn’t fit one. James

    Great video James it answers a lot of questions that i have even been asked lately and have had trouble answering, i did try the FX slugs in my 15ft/lb Superten only to find it did not like them at all and that they hit a lot lower than the 15grn JSB that it usually loves.

    • @ReplicaReviews
      @ReplicaReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I’ve noticed they do seem to drop quicker - i think this is down to the massive cavity / hollow point which is far bigger than its rivals.... i’ll be looking into it more though.

    • @ReplicaReviews

      @mrshoto9035 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ReplicaReviews ‘Fat’ mod ~ what are you using? I mention this as I’ve sometimes seen better precision with a moderator fitted. It might well have been a different story on your tests. As you say, PT2 will cover this.

  • @laroofingltd

    looks like the H&N and the FX were tumbling by the tears in the target. JSB's looked to have a neater hole.
    The JSB's seem to go quite well out of my sub 12ft/lb BSA R10 TH.
    Got a FX chrono and some more slugs on there way from Giles at Airgun101 shop so hopefully I can test properly at the weekend.

    • @ReplicaReviews
      @ReplicaReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the tears were mostly down to where the targets were in relation to the pallet behind it. The jsb’s landed on a section with wood behind it where as the other two didn’t - causing the paper to rip.... i’m not personally convinced it was due to tumbling on this occasion.

    • @ReplicaReviews
      @ReplicaReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That and when the slugs were recovered from areas where they had hit wood - they were still facing forward.

    Looks like the fx were going in sideways

    • @ReplicaReviews
      @ReplicaReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was more to do with the backing. Where the pallet supports weren’t directly behind the target there was ripping - which made it look like it was sideways...

    • @SmarteeeOutdoors
      @SmarteeeOutdoors 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ReplicaReviews They were tumbling. Clearly not correct rifling/enough power to stabilise the slug.

    you might aswell throw the rifle at the quarry trying to shoot that weight pellet through a sub 12ft/lb,way way to heavy no matter what shape or make,,crazy.🤔🤔

    • @ReplicaReviews
      @ReplicaReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think the damage to the slugs begs to differ 😉 there’s still plenty of retained power to get them expanding in the way they did...
