- Great to be back in action again, I've bought some 10.5grn slugs (yes I paid for them myself!) to try in my new Airwolf and they are superb so I decided to use them on my first visit to the Golf club since lockdown ended, and also give them a go on the corvids at the farm. They performed brilliantly in the Daystate Lothar barrel so I'll definitely be using them going forward, especially on the farm. As they are more expensive than pellets I'm sure they won't be for everyone but for us Sub 12 shooters it's good to have more choice, more is better!

I'd have never thought I'd see .177 slugs perform so accurately at sub-12 fpe. Here in the U.S, I find that perfect for short range urban shooting...if I can find slugs that are similarly light in weight. And in .22, as I have a rare Parker-Hale Phoenix mk2 that's tested at 11.73 fpe. Maybe with a bit of luck...😊

You’re welcome. They are specifically designed for sub 12 airguns that’s why they are only 10.5grn. If your gun likes them they are a great alternative to pellets for hunting

These work mostly because of their lighter weight, I’m using them at 700fps and they shoot brilliantly
@@NottsPestControl I now think it has to be possible to offer a range of slugs that are designed to operate in typical air rifle barrels. Maybe they'd be offered in a range of fp/e. Or accuracy based on distance usage as you've demonstrated. After all, some hunters enjoy the close-in stalk while others enjoy the long range kill shots. Certainly urban shooters would fall in the former. It's all so exciting to imagine. I need an ale!🍻
Great shooting. Have got these slugs myself yesterday to shoot in my fx m3. So far so good. Only been to 20yards so far but the squirrel didn’t like the slug.

Good shooting ! I've been using those slugs in my Brocock Bantam Sniper HR for a few months, they're a damn good slug and now it's all i shoot out of my gun, no pass-thru , huge expansion, super accurate and whatever they hit - stays hit ^_^

I defo have Iv shot others but none been as good as this one .never shot a tactical one Before aswell lol but this is the best one I ever shot.Iv just put a airmax compact on-it like you had and with that carbon best fitting bottle you put on its very very lite .hope to see some more videos soon buddy .I keep waiting for them as you do really good videos how you do Them 😊👍🍻🍻🍻🍻

Thanks Martyn. Yes they work ok in the Daystate magazine as it’s operated by a spring lever like a clock. It’s when there’s pressure against the slug like in an FX mag they can roll and cause problems as they aren’t the same shape as a pellet. Most guns shoot more accurately through a single shot loader anyway I’ve just bought a Rowan one for the Airwolf that pops out when you cock the gun making it easier to use

The velocity of that.50 cal. slug was pretty slow, but I guess it would have to be slow to stay sub 12!

Dude, if you shoot with 174 joules, that's 128 fpe, you can shoot a rabbit with that!😃
Could I ask for more info on the magazine you are using with the slugs as I would like to try the Mako slugs also in my Daystate Air Wolf MCT in .177?
I am using the Daystate magazine that came with the gun as well as a Rowan single shot adaptor. The Daystate mag allows the slug to load is isn’t tensioned by the slug
What twist rate is the barrel on that,
As slugs don't like barrels with a high twist I'm just curious as to Weather your using a soft twist barrels,
It’s a standard Lothar Walther barrel so I assume it’s around 1/18. These slugs are designed for sub 12 shooting in standard air rifles, all I know is they are the most accurate ammunition I’ve shot through the Airwolf so I’ll keep using them. They also have a better BC than pellets so drop less compared to a similar weight like a JSB Heavy

I tried slugs long ago and just brushed them aside as for fac only as pellets need the twist for stability and to keep the skirt inline,
Unlike slugs that need a smooth twist to seal the air behind them.
But what you are using seems perfect,

You mentioned you fitted or are fitting a new heliboard, was there a problem or is it an upgrade ? I have an airwolf in sub 12 and have been looking for slugs, nice one mate.
I did it as an upgrade after reading about them. They are excellent and really allow the gun to be tuned to every shot. The original board was fine I just wanted to tinker!
Notts Pest Control Are the heliboards easy to fit, I am familiar with the original plug in bits on the airwolf
@@owdred6314 Yes doddle mate. Just unplug the old boards and take the 3 fixing screws out, fit the new one and refix the 3 screws.
You should see the slugs in my yard lol damn things must be at least 20mil slugs hehe.

What sort of range finder are you using I can see the flash which I’m guessing is the range finder
Yes It’s the LE-032 rangefinder that fits onto a picatinny mount on your rifle and you adjust the base to coincide with your scope view. They are about £125 ish on eBay if I recall

Hi just wondered what scope is it that your using
It’s a Hawke Airmax Compact, they are brilliant with the Pard 007 as they have a shorter eye relief so give a nice full picture and are easier to mount further forward to allow for the Pard on the rear of the scope.

Did you have to turn the power up much when changing to slugs. Whenever I have tried them I lose about 1flb or so. Are they accurate at 50 and 60 yards as well. Nice to see if they are worth getting some. How have you found the expansion.
Not really as they compensate with the slight drop in power with a better BC so it sort of balances itself out at 30-40 yards. Not shot them out to 60 yards but up to 50 they are very good, and the expansion is excellent they flatten almost to a disc as they are very hollow

From testing the BC is about 0.05 and remember to use the G1 profile

No but they were the most accurate ammunition in my Airwolf, and the expansion was very impressive. I was headshotting squirrels in my back yard at 8m and they didn’t pass through. If you’re using them for pest control the cost is irrelevant as well
I actually thought the .50cal slug was pretty good.
You tried them in your FX
I’ve tried them briefly and they didn’t group well but I need to do a better test with a clean barrel as they are much better when they lead in

if your having to drop your wolf down to keep them legal, your implying if you set your wolf to max you would be over 12ftlbs and therefore you have a section 1 firearm?
No. Everything I put through it is under 12ftlbs, it’s back on its standard Daystate board now anyway and doing 10.8 with the slugs and 11.3/4 with everything else
