I've done three of these, the first one just wouldnt make oil pressure on startup. We ended up pulling the oil pressure sender and back feeding the oil pump to prime it. Worked like a charm.

Finally somebody made an actual video on this problem. I only watched it for pure entertainment purposes as i have already dealt with a leaky crank seal on my Yamaha 2005 F150s years ago. It happened once at 1100 hours and i brought it to a local shop who "fixed" it only for it to happen to me again at 1500 hours. This problem combined with several other redundant issues my yamaha 4 strokes kept having pushed me away from yamaha completly. I now repowered with twin 200 suzuki brand new 2022 and can only hope i have better luck with them than i did with the Ole YammaNOZZLES as we like to call them.

This video reminded me about the funny fact is that most of the early Mercury mid HP 4 stroke fuel injected motors the oil pump is NLA.
Makes possibly rebuilding some of these motors an undesirable attempt if the engine has a lot of hours or the pump ran dry.

I didn't have my trim perfectly straight when I pulled the powerhead on my old Mercury 250, rookie mistake. But it turns out, you can touch the trim wires to the contacts of a drill battery to adjust the trim after you've disconnected everything.

Koken makes universal swivel sockets with what they call "Nut Grip". It holds the nut or bolt to the socket and makes it easier to get bolts in places like that lower intake bolt.

Me again 🙂 Oil injection can fail. Viscosity changes in cold weather. I ran into December for stripers.
My approach was to mix synthetic oil at 100/1 in one of the outboard fuel tanks, at least, and switch over once normal operating temps. had been reached. I have yet to blow up an outboard motor and I started with an Evinrude Lark 40 h.p. push button shift 🙂on a Chincoteague Garvey.

Just out of curiosity, what would a shop charge to this on average? Ive done this before but sometimes having to go back a re-prime to get pressure is part of it, which is kind of frustrating since i dont have as much time as i used to to wrench on my stuff. The thing is if the shop cost are more than I’ve just gotten the engine for ill bust the mission myself lol.
