When I just started my channel I was using LED pannels, which I later upgraded to a single Godox SL60W + large softbox. I was planning to upgrade to Aputure 120D at some point, but realized I have absolutely no need for that, since I barelly use 70% my 60W Godox. Looking at these... If I was starting out - I may prefer them due to the super compact size, however, I do love metal construction on my Godox. Anyway, awesome addition for us, beginners :)
HA! Was just about to order the Amaran 100X and then got this video in the ending card of the 100D & X review. This smaller light will suite our needs even better . Apart from the regular use with softboxes it can also add some great bouncing extra light to a scene where we’re usually filming. Great video Caleb, it would be interesting to see a comparación between a bi color light and a 5600k light with gels just to see the difference in output
Great review of a super interesting light. Packability is so underrated in the video world! I do feel you're a bit too harsh on the umbrella though, that first shot around 1:00 is perfectly usable.
It's amazing this video was posted 12/2021 and 2 months later, the price of Amaran 60D hiked up from $170 to $229 @ Amazon. A $59 price hike in just two months. lol
The P60c has been back ordered everywhere for quite some time. Not sure if the chip shortage or supply chain affects Aputure, but I wish companies would slow down on new releases and actually have in stock what they come out with. How does it do companies any good to come out with new products, but consumers can't buy them?
In Germany it was no problem to buy the P60C. We got our two weeks ago and it's really nice. Maybe we also order a 60X due to its bicolor output, small size and Vmount power option.
It is a bit annoying but it's worth it to just contact them or your local retail distributor and ask them to put one on order for you. Heck, even ask if you can wait to pay for the order until the gear is there and ready to be picked-up or ship. I work at one of these companies and we have no issue putting gear on order for you and waiting to collect payment until the week the gear is ready to ship.
Very useful to see some hands on experience with these. How much output would you get by putting a ¼, ½ or full cto on the 60d in comparison to the 60x? Is it worth getting the d and some gels over the versatility of the x?
Great review. Oddly enough these lights are cheaper and more color accurate than my truck's flood lights. Thanks for the info Caleb, might mount these on my car next time.

good morning. i have one question the price difference is around 1 $ (on the website) do you suggest to buy the new one (60d) or 100d ? the differences are on the size and power ? regards from Italy
I am shocked that Aputure has put out a light like this but in a good way because I think it is smart of them and I dont won't hurt sales of the more expensive lights due to the different use cases of each light they offer being pretty clear. All around this is just a great thing for everyone. The one thing I have always been held back by with filming is a great bright light due to cost. Now I can buy a good bright entry level light to get started without breaking the bank and eventually if I start making money I can upgrade to a more robust light like the 120D later when needed. As always thanks for the awesome video showing why this light is great and also for explaining how it is not a bad move on Apurtures part. I have missed your videos!
Hi, just had your very useful channel offered up. I like the style. In my price range as well! Small 'bite sized' pieces and straight to the point. No faff. Have yet to work my way through the offerings but liked and subscribed just on what I've seen so far. Looks like you've been in the art for quite some time, impressive collection behind you. Thanks, and have a good Christmas. Bob.
Insightful video as always and the 60d looks like a winner. One thing to note is it's probably better to go with the 100d if you need to have the large softbox. I just priced it at B&H and the 60d plus 6" Matthellini and Hollywood Head totals $269 with taxes. At $200 for the 100d, it's the more budget-friendly option.
I guess the idea was -- if you already had a big softbox and C-stand and claps, you can still use this light, which is powerful enough to fill in a large soft box
Thanks so much for this video! It really helped me take the plunge to get a 60x S light. What I didn't remember when ordering the light was the part about how you mounted it to the softbox. I managed to get a parabolic softbox that is definitely too big for the light 🤦♂. Because the rods are too close to each other to fit a clamp like the one you used, I was wondering if you (or anyone else) had any ideas for how to create a similar set-up with the parabolic softbox. Any advice would be much appreciated!
I didn’t quite get which kind of clamp you used at 2:29 for a large softbox. Could you share a link to a product site? Many thanks for your help and this great video!
I brought Beta SP equipment back in the 90s using the BMC Terranex to up convert to HD, the footage looks great.. so glad I invested because I'm making money from that old footage today

You can battery power the 60d quite easily while it is a bit of a pain on a 100d. It will probably depend a lot on where and how you like to shoot. Both can make a ton of sense.
Hey Caleb - great video! Just a note: you should almost always measure light output with only the bare light and no modifiers. Using any modifiers of any kind (even if you are using the same modifier for testing multiple lights) can skew results as different chip sizes/shapes can interact differently with modifiers.
@@wayneberry3453 I don't think it's about whether or not people will use a modifier, it's about being able to consistently compare output/color across different lights.
Thanks 💛. Is 60d with a softbox is a convenient choice for working computer space? I teach students online, sitting at the computer. Or it is too bright and a daylight temperature is not ideal for long daily usage? I already have a LED panel for a fill light so would like a comfortable key light that can be used throughout a day.

That softbox setup was the equivalent of mounting the lens to the tripod instead of the camera.
Yep, I have the Sony 200-600 f5.6-6.3 on an A7Siii, the tripod mount is on the lens not the camera.
