    As a professional I bought 2 of the bi colours. I find it super useful to have a relatively powerful light I can kind of throw anywhere with just a smaller v-mount battery. Just clamp it to the ceiling if need be. That said it’s definitely not a main light. Just something useful to have in your kit.

    when using an umbrella I recommend taking the reflector off. that way it spreads more across the surface of the umbrella.

      Thanks for the insight! Good idea for a softer, more even light. Tradeoff is that it won't push as far, but that can be ok, depending on your particular set.

    I have been waiting for your review for long! I cannot decide if I should get the Amaran 60D, 60X or 100X because of the power output, I mainly use it for talking head, but sometimes for a 2 person interview. Do you think the 60D (instead of 60X) will have enough power in an interview situation? Also, how's the performance of the 60X with the compatible softbox like the MINI 2 or SE Dome, because you were testing it with a much bigger softbox. Thanks.

    • @curtisjudd

    I figured out how to make the Amaran COB 60X case work properly. Put AC parts in separate bag, Keep the baby spud on the unit and cut a notch in box for it. This leaves room for 4 NPF

    Another stellar review! I'm considering one of these two lights for a quick "run and gun" battery powered key light solution to grab video/photos of clothing in our vintage clothing store. Couple of questions:
    1) would the 60x with an umbrella or the p60x with the included softbox be a better solution for that?
    2) with the 60x, would you recommend using high capacity NP-F batteries and the included adapter plate or a V mount battery for weight distribution/ease of use/battery life? Thanks!

    • @curtisjudd
      @curtisjudd  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      An umbrella will provide softer light but it will also spill everywhere - good for a flat but soft look. The panel with the softbox will be a little less soft but will not spill as much - good for a more stylized look, perhaps. I’d start with the NP-F batteries.

    Hi Curtis, could you clarify why you say that the aputure 2x fresnel is not capable with this light? also you mention some big domes are not compatible i assume is because of the size and weight of them to be to heavy for the plastic body and the mount?

    • @curtisjudd
      @curtisjudd  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Emil, it wasn't designed for a light with this size LED chip so the optics aren't optimal. And yes, the light is so small and made of plastic so it isn't designed to support larger soft boxes.

    • @curtisjudd
      @curtisjudd  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hey Curtis, I absolutely love how much detail and effort you put into your videos. Even while watching this, when you said that you were holding up your softbox with the C-stand, you showed it quickly and while I continued to watch, I was wondering how you had it attached and then you showed exactly how it was attached. So my only comment is that maybe that could have been edited in right after the first mention, but man that is being a picky viewer. I have heard you mention dropping a light on cement in the past. Maybe you could build yourself some B-roll showing a light being knocked over and destroyed, that you could just drop it in when applicable. Excellent review as always.

    Hey Curtis, I am wondering if you have an answer for this question that has been hard to figure out. I am choosing between bi-color and daylight balanced lights (Amaran or Lightstorm depending on budget). Daylight balanced tends to have more output, I believe because all of the LEDs are daylight which would make it brighter then a bi-color where half of the lights or daylight. What I am wondering is if I want to have the highest output at daylight and tungsten color, would I go with a daylight balanced and just use CTO(which I am assuming cuts light transmission significantly by blocking blue wavelengths) or choose a bi-color?

      @@juandiosdado I agree. I thought i could trust Curtis as he seemed to understand sound. The 60x is a noisemaker and you cannot have it anywhere your talent or microphone or you will get noise... a broadband noise that you cannot remove easily. A high pitched noise around 4k to boot as well. If your using a condenser microphone you will pick this up. I think the reviewer has been remiss in mentioning this, although its quite apparent as soon as you turn one light on. the other thing is the battery life is really very very poor. Basically the light is ok in noisy environments as the sound would get washed out but i do doubt this reviewer as its the third time ive bought something he has reviewed from a mainstream manufacturer that hes failed to review critically. Had i known how limiting this light was i would not of clicked his refferal link, but hey enjoy that refferal. Not expecting a reply from the reviewer.. it all smells fishy to me..
