How can Paul claim to have a speech impediment when he is one of the most fluent and coherent speakers around?
I know, if Paul has a speech impediment then I must sound like a deaf man trying to say a tongue twister.
Especially when he raddled off the construction of the meat target like an auctioneer!
Moses Probably had one too. lol
He is pretty clear of speech but I've noticed he sometimes tends to lose his enunciation near the end of sentences or loses volume/clarity. You know, muttering. It's something you get used to though.
It takes a lot of work to get things out clearly.
At this point, I don't trust anyone that cannot explain the construction of the Meat Target in detail.
Only if you live somewhere that's never even heard of the internet!😅
Should be a mandatory class in Jr. High on it.

May I suggest a 10 ga shotgun.
You could easily use the word sumo (sumo wrestler) to describe half of the US population--the country is very obese and your ammunition choice should reflect the need to have penetration well beyond the "blubber" layer and into the vitals. Kinda scary to contemplate this veritable "armor" layer the average citizen has....

The fact that neither cartridge significantly over-penetrated the Meat Target is exactly why people choose #4B over 00B. If I'm attacked by a sumo I'll just have to be bothered with shooting twice.

The most refreshingly Non-bullshitty channel I’ve ever seen. Even if you’re not interested in shooting but are sick of BS, this is the antidote.
The combination of well-spokenness and firearm technical competence that Paul possesses, while delivering superb entertainment in every video, is unparalleled on TH-cam.
I attempted to duplicate the meat target, but ended up grilling and eating the pork ribs, drinking 15 screwdriver cocktails, and making fleece blanket stew in a Dutch oven.

Paul is definitely a “unique” personality. If you can get past that (which isn’t difficult) he still has the best firearms/ammunition videos out there.

This is so common at all the channels I watch. I have a theory that the employees of TH-cam are choosing between deleting or not allowing a video vs letting it go but with immediate thumbs down from them. I'm just grateful we still have Paul for now. Who knows how much longer until we all have to go elsewhere for this kind of thing? It's not just gun channels it's all kinds of stuff. I think we need to look for alternative platforms, just in case.
it's the social media representative of EveryTown for Gun Safety. They're probably subscribed to every gun channel and automatically flagging every video as they release.

As odd as it sounds there ARE people who watch random videos and vote down anything they don't like. There are also people who watch EVERY video posted by gun channels to see if they can report it as they are posted. But as far as the U of Tube goes a like/dislike are weighted the same. Both count equally as participatory views to the algorithm.
I've seen a bunch of your videos and love the "shoot and immediately pump the action" I see with every pull of the trigger. Great skill to learn.

We have fresh from the grocer's pig ears to represent skin then a couple sticks of butter underneath for fat followed by a large boneless ham to simulate a large muscular pectoral muscle, pork ribs, a bag of oranges lung tissue, more pork ribs and butter on the back, no t-shirt this time, and the whole thing backed up by our new and improved high tech fleece bullet stop.
He actually has done a video with a meat target intended to represent a medium to large sized animal that might attack a human (bear, wolf, etc.).
I am incredibly thrilled by the thorough nature of his testing individual traits of the different ammunitions, really well done video!! THANK YOU

As someone who has a Mossberg 500 as his main home defense gun, using Remington Green and Yellow Box, 2 3/4 inch #1 buckshot (kinda the in-between load between 000 and #4 buck).....thank you, Paul. I think I'll steer clear of the low recoil loads.

Well, since I use this same PMC #4 low-recoil in my Mossberg Shockwave, I’m good with your testing, because for my home-defense, any engagement will be inside 10 yards. That’s lethal enough for me without me worrying about shot going in my neighbors house next door. Thanks for the testing sir.
Most Excellent! Low Penetration and LETHAL damage to threat is what I require in Apt. dwelling!
Not having to worry about that situation of apartment dwelling, I hadn't even given that a passing concern.
I live in a wooden home on a couple of acres and my neighbors are several hundred feet away or more in any given direction, so overpenetration isn't a concern of mine, hence my preference for full-powered rounds of 00 Buckshot.
But I Feel for ya and you gotta do what you gotta do. And in your case, the types of rounds discussed in this video DO seem to be the right choice for you.

look at his other videos with birdshot. In an apartment I'd recommend large birdshot like #4, #2,or BB. #4 buck will penetrate 3 or 4 walls, especially if you miss, and there's a large chance of missing with a few pellets if there are 28 pellets to begin with. Not worth it in an apartment with thin walls and children everywhere.
With 00B , even with reduced velocities , the .33 pellets still have plenty of energy , and the patterning is the limiting factor .
With 4B , with " barely buckshot " .24 pellets , but lots of them , the hit density will remain adequate even farther after the per pellet energy becomes marginal .
As to the above concerns about apartment wall penetration , there is good news and bad news .
Good news - If you hit the felons with all the pellets , 4B generally, and the low recoil in particular are unlikely to exit .
The bad news - You have to make really, really sure not to miss .

I'm no stranger to the channel since videos have been popping up in my suggestion list over the years, but I recently subscribed (& took a closer look) and have also seen how far back his videos have gone. Not to be rude, but #4 Buckshot is a pretty low recoil round to begin with, unless you're shooting it out of a very light shotgun.

For me reduced sound pressure levels are far more important than reduced recoil.

After watching these videos, I want to engrave “For use with Remington ammunition only” on all my barrels.
Thanks for this. No 4 buck is my home defense choice. Love to see the pattern test at closer ranges, say 5-7 yards like in a house situation.
Be careful people are not in other rooms. #4 buckshot will penetrate through 16 layers of drywall. I use birdshot for in home defense.

I got my first 12 gauge today, a Mossberg 590, going to load it with #4 buckshot. Great video as always Paul, lots of good info.
M7, M7B and M9 bayonets will fit the M590 lug and magazine end cap milspec configuration. An ode to the trench broom of the great war.
If others would find it useful, I'd be interested to see a comparison between Hornady's 160gr FTX Leverevolution in calibre 30-30 and more traditional 30-30 ammo. Specifically as it relates to hunting effectiveness on deer and potentially larger game animals such as moose, elk, bear, etc at distances up to 100-200 yards. I have read on forums that hunters have found the round ineffectually 'breaks up' in the animal if fired at closer distances under 50 yards and wondered if there was any truth to that. Thanks and greatly appreciate all your videos and the effort you and your crew put into them.
Perhaps you can buy all the rounds you mention, along with the goodies that create a good representation of Paul's "Meat Targets," test them and get back to us with the results.
I rather doubt that Paul would be willing to incur the costs of doing as you ask/desire for one persons curiosity.

Elk require a PMC Starfire Eldorado 150 grain Talon Ammo. . They bore a 3” hole through any animal. Regular white tail drop better with 125 grain hollow points.

I just obtained some Sellier & Bellot #4 buck, with 21 pellets per shell, so I guess it is a reduced recoil ammo. Sounds like it would be good for a home-defense scenario where over-penetration is a big concern (like in my small apartment).
For my decision tree brain, i am still trying to figure out which load is best.

I have always wanted to try out #1 buck loads as on paper they offer more power than #4 loads, but more pellets than 00Buck. The problem I had was none of the LGS in my area carried such an uncommon load.
If you read this Mr. Harrell, please consider this as something that could be worth evaluating. I like your analysis on these topics and your thoroughness.

I run 000 buck in my defense shotguns. Cause shooting 8 9mm handguns at once sounds like a solid plan
The diameter of a 000 pellet is about 9mm, but it only weighs 70 grains, which is a lot less than a typical 9mm Parabellum bullet. Also, it's just a solid lead sphere while handgun bullets intended for self-defense are normally hollow-points. There is no handgun that I know of that has the same ballistics as a single 000 pellet from a 12 gauge. The old .36 caliber Navy Colt revolvers are close in terms of diameter, weight, and type of projectile, but velocity is a lot slower (~1,000 vs. ~1,300 FPS).
