    You get my thumbs up, even doing it for fun you named which size shot you used. Many just say birdshot. As if we can figure out what size they are using. Thank you for showing others how to do a proper video.

    I always thought high brass meant more power, but I was fascinated to read in the Lyman Shotshell Reloading Handbook that there is no difference in power or reloading specs between high and low brass hulls. It's an old holdover from paper hulls, and is now just a marketing ploy.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well honestly most commercially avaible shells, if high brass, are in fact more powerful. The high brass shells generally have a little higher velocity than do low brass.

    Having a short barrel and a cylinder bore choke will make a pretty massive difference compared to a longer barrel with any choke.
    You also have many different loads. There can a significant difference depending on more than just the shot size. The payload, powder and wad design can also make a fairly big difference.

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  ปีที่แล้ว

      While I don't recommend birdshot for self defense nor was this video necessarily suggesting or advovating for such, #6 at close range can certainly be devestating. If I recall correctly, I aimed high on these shots so that I wouldn't blast the table, meaning that most of the shot went over the block. Had I aimed squarely at the block, the results would have been much more damaging lol.

  • @cameronlamb7274
    @cameronlamb7274 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Low or high brass isn’t really a tell tale of anything. Velocity and payload weight are what matter. Low vs high brass was only really a sign of a bigger powder charge when we used paper hulls the brass had to be as high or higher then the powder charge or else it would burn through the hull.

    I had a bunch of 8 shot 12 gauge laying around so I emptied out the birdshot and replaced it with bb shot from bulk bb gun ammo. It definitely ain't as good as buckshot but it will definitely work inside house distances. It's a good improvised ammo in these times where 5.56,9mm,12 gauge is impossible to find.

      Or you could just conclude, as I did and most others watching this video did, that the #5 would have been right between #4 and #6 (obviously). If I hit it with the #5 as well, then there wouldn't have been anything left for the 4 buck, which I was way more interested in seeing especially considering all the birdshot basically did the same thing. @@BuckeyeBallistics on the updated test on #4,#5,#6, birdshot with individual blocks but I just found it kinda funny this popped up in my feed again after I was thinking about picking something for hunting small game like raccoons I have a 22 but it sometimes gets inhumane with the amount of shots of 22lr and they aren't dispatched quickly which is not what any hunter wants i have hauled a raccoon out of the woods that ate 27 shots of 22lr and that was found out after he was skinned it could've had more though considering I hunt with a dog and he got to him first but mainly im looking for something a little more efficient as far as that goes without putting the animal through hell

    • @BuckeyeBallistics
      @BuckeyeBallistics  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This was one of my first gel tests. I have learned over the past 3 years that having other shots doesn't really affect adjacent shots- I have even shot multiple of the same bullet like say a 9mm, and it travels through an existing wound channel and still penetrates about the same. So, using individual blocks would show the same results as seen here in this video. However, I like the idea of doing the test again and with cleaner/more blocks, so perhaps this fall when I start gel tesing again.
      But what kind of .22 ammo are you using? 27 shots is ridiculous. Shot placement is key first, as in actually hitting the vitals like heart and lung with every shot. 2nd is ammo, which you should be using a quality high velocity hollow point that has been proven to expand (a lot of the bulk pack stuff doesn't expand well). I've shot numerous oppossums and raccoons with a .22 and I've never needed more than 3-4 shots max, usually less. Check out my .22/rimfire playlist on the channel to see which ones perform the best in the gel (and other tests).
