For years I always considered Range Rovers to be overpriced and overrated… until I drove a Sport and HSE. Yes, you’re playing maintenance roulette when they start to climb in miles but damn, they really do check every box you could ever want.
Many things that you can't see add to value. Infra-red coatings on windows along with UV... your arm doesn't get warm resting on the window ledge despite full sun... you don't get blasted opening door in hot parking lots. Ip67 rated wiring connectors for keeping water out of computers and harness. Arriving after a 5 hour drive and feeling rested instead of beat... they are worth the extra outlay.
@@jeffreyjones3616 Every car has waterproof connectors and sealed computers so nothing shorts out in the rain. My Subaru has IR-blocking glass that works very well. The Range Rover isn't that special.

I had a 2013 Range Rover Evoque. Worst car I've ever owned. Every year, it has a big issue, even though I only drove 7k a year. Even with a warranty, I spent two years in debt from fixing it, even though I make six figures. That's not including the blown turbo I didn't fix before I traded it in. And at the end of the day, it was nothing special to drive. It was a turd in a shiny wrapper. Never, ever again.
I agree. But those who buy it are rich enough not to care. They buy it new, enjoy it for 2-3 years, take the depreciation and let it go for less than half of the price paid.
It's either you kept up with maintenance (which is going to be expensive and cumbersome considering it was an expensive luxury SUV when new) or you were just lucky. Which one was it?
Latest version has removed the heating controls so they are now on the main screen. So much less easier to use. Overall the car is amazing to drive and very practical and has a spare wheel under the trunk floor unlike most brands. 60 mile plus electric range on the hybrid version with 50kW charge rate on a 35kW battery.
Actually they don't, if you keep it for 1-2 years they don't depreciate that much, after that it's probably the same for every luxury car. I sold my 2023 RR sport for 20k more than what i bought it for
Funny thing about this car is that this car was stuck in a blizzard we had just before Christmas eve in michigan and after helping them out, I drove my base subaru outback where they were stuck and in deeper snow with no problems. You may be high tech on the inside but less reliable than a 27k car.

Doug DeMuro - the kind of guy who on Sunday, releases a video about how bad buttons and knobs are in cars today... then on Tuesday, releases a video _praising_ Range Rover for including knobs for the climate controls.
I’m always amused when people call Range Rover unreliable like we don’t already know that. Cars come with a warranty for a reason, extended warranties are also available. Most buyers who can afford a Range Rover lease.
For Doug to like it, it should have 44 inch wheels, it should be twice as tall. It should have 16 more screens and nothing should be accessible without a screen. If you could steer, accelerate and brake through the screen, that would be perfect.
My 2018 sport needed a new engine after 72k miles and 4.5 years so it was just out of warranty. They wanted $24k to replace it with a refurb. The turbo blew and sent shrapnel and oil into the engine. 😢😢😢😢
I'd take cloth over leather and anything over vinyl. I like cloth because it doesn't get burning hot in the summer from the sun, doesn't feel cold in the winter, breathes well, and doesn't require regular conditioning. Every car I've had with vinyl or leather received cloth seat covers. My current car was special-ordered with cloth.
@@bwofficial1776 Simple solar tinted windows, heated seats, and I might have to condition them once a year at most. as opposed to Stains, tears, odors trapped in the cloth, and pet hair. but cloth has its advantages in climate I agree with that. if I wasn't allowed the tint and heated seats then I'd probably be a cloth guy too. then again running the car for a few minutes to either heat the car or cool it kinda negates it so idk.
I think those fancy dials with screens that can be multifunction are a good solution, for integrating multiple controls without burying them in some dense infotainment system.
This is just a gorgeous looking SUV - classy and fully off-road capable. Show me ANY luxury SUV aka merc, BMW or Audi that will wade through 90 cm. of water 👍

It's not, i mean after 5-6 years yes, like any luxury cars. But if you keep it for 1-2 years It doesn't depreciate that much, i actually sold mine for 20k more 1 year later
I have both the 2023 X5 and 2022 Cayenne, in my opinion X5 is the better overall car. I respectfully disagree with the statement that every X5 owner wants to be in a Cayenne. Some Porsches like 911 and Taycan (which I had) differentiate Porsche brand, but not Cayenne. Maybe refreshed one is better, but I doubt it.
I wonder how many of these are actually purchased rather than leased. Given their lack of reliability and poor resale value, it seems like an odd duck to own outright
I always have done better purchasing and trading before 30k miles so that dealer could set em up as certified preowned. Lease would have been more expensive... do you think that the dealer lease program doesn't account for depreciation too? 😂

Awesome review Doug! Something to note is that they actually changed the centre console from 2023 to 2024 model year. Now there is no buttons and all controls are on screen. This also fixes the issue with phone launching out of charging place as there is a dedicated sport with cover for it now!
Doug the type of guy who talk about the bride's quirks and features in the best man's speech.
Thats hilarious🤣😂😂😂😂
@CC-gu3ze Then gives her a Doug Score in comparison to his previous girlfriends 😅
If you want a sporty suv it doesn't check the box
@@jeffreyjones3616 Every car has waterproof connectors and sealed computers so nothing shorts out in the rain. My Subaru has IR-blocking glass that works very well. The Range Rover isn't that special.
@@bwofficial1776 cool. Didn't know that subaru was doing IR too. It's nice to have.
@@bwofficial1776 I'm positive that most manufactures don't do ip67 where they can be submerged in several feet of water for 30 minutes without intrusion and can take water jet sprays.. that isconsidered "waterproof"... not just water resistant ... not trying to knock your subaru... but get in a rover and you can't not admit the difference... and yes there is a difference in cost... what.. 20 to 30% more?
I had a 2013 Range Rover Evoque. Worst car I've ever owned. Every year, it has a big issue, even though I only drove 7k a year. Even with a warranty, I spent two years in debt from fixing it, even though I make six figures. That's not including the blown turbo I didn't fix before I traded it in. And at the end of the day, it was nothing special to drive. It was a turd in a shiny wrapper. Never, ever again.
The evoque is one of the least reliable land rovers and does not encompass what the RR and RRS deliver
I agree. But those who buy it are rich enough not to care. They buy it new, enjoy it for 2-3 years, take the depreciation and let it go for less than half of the price paid.
@@arlofsand those rich guys definitely dont get the damn Evoque😂

Those two dials with multippe functions is awesome. Its still a physical control but its multiple things integrated into one
I had a 2015 Sport with the Supercharged V8 and it was a glorious vehicle. Impeccable reliability too.
Lies.
Buddies got jokes
It's either you kept up with maintenance (which is going to be expensive and cumbersome considering it was an expensive luxury SUV when new) or you were just lucky. Which one was it?
@@damilolaakanniimagine not maintaining a luxury car. Ofc it would go wrong😂
@@IMDGENonly thing that ever went wrong was a little exhaust leak at 90k miles. That is the truth.
Pay an extra 2 grand for the Prop 65 interior? You gotta be kidding me!
If only we had those prices for cars in Australia.
Land Rover vehicles should have a Depreciation Gauge next to the Speedometer.
😃😆😅😂🤣
Actually they don't, if you keep it for 1-2 years they don't depreciate that much, after that it's probably the same for every luxury car. I sold my 2023 RR sport for 20k more than what i bought it for
@@alev7130What do you drive now?

Funny thing about this car is that this car was stuck in a blizzard we had just before Christmas eve in michigan and after helping them out, I drove my base subaru outback where they were stuck and in deeper snow with no problems. You may be high tech on the inside but less reliable than a 27k car.
Hold on, what?! PAY to go leather-free?!! Last I checked leather was always an upcharge. Anything non-leather was always less. But now it's pay MORE to be leather-FREE?! Oh, what a world we live in. A fool and his money part ways... :/
Bought a new RR sport has to be the most comfortable car we’ve ever sat in! And we’ve had a few!!! Between every pair of legs is an opinion!!All the negative comments are from people who have never even been in a RR and probably can’t afford one. I promise you buy one you won’t regret it. The privi pro infotainment is great and easy to use. And the v6 is surprisingly powerful as I’ve had the V8 from RR in the past as well. Go test drive one you’ll be pleasantly surprised !!!!😲 Smooth Vehicle!! And they look great!! Nothing like a RR
100% to everything you are saying. I’ve had and currently have nice cars, but this (my first JLR) 24’ RRS of mine is the BEST I’ve ever had. I’ve always loved the looks, but ever since driving and now owning one, I’m on my way to always wanting one in my mix.
Completely redesigned? I see the same box with slightly changes in the taillights that’s all
I can say the same with new Mercedes designs, they are nothing but boring
For Doug to like it, it should have 44 inch wheels, it should be twice as tall. It should have 16 more screens and nothing should be accessible without a screen. If you could steer, accelerate and brake through the screen, that would be perfect.
Do I plan to ever buy a Land Rover? No. Did I watch this entire video? Yes.
The section divider in the boot is a perfect dog gate / door to stop them jumping out or getting in way of closing electric tailgate. Clever.
I’m English and I wouldn’t touch one with a bargepole as we say in England 😂😂😂😂🏴🇬🇧
You can't even if you wanted to. They are uninsurable because of so many thefts. Not even kidding.
Absolutely
My 2018 sport needed a new engine after 72k miles and 4.5 years so it was just out of warranty. They wanted $24k to replace it with a refurb. The turbo blew and sent shrapnel and oil into the engine. 😢😢😢😢
Love how people used to pay extra for leather now they pay extra to have no leather 😂 😂. I'll take real leather over vinyl or cloth any day.
I think those fancy dials with screens that can be multifunction are a good solution, for integrating multiple controls without burying them in some dense infotainment system.
new car and all interior that glossy is already scratched to death. imagine what its gonna be like in 5-7 years...
Will look even better when sitting at the mechanic
Wish you'd review the base models, what the vast majority of buyers get...
Nice depreciating asset!
At least with an Escalade, all the really expensive mechanical bits can be found at the nearest Chevy dealership.
This new model is so beautiful. Im so happy there isnt some huge grille. Its thin and cool

Land Rover interior design: Half as many buttons that.. .break twice as often.
What percentage of the price is based on expected warranty repair costs? 80%?
Previous gen looks way better
Agreed, Both exterior and interior in my opinion.
The slim, flush, adjustable wide-screen paired with the climate-control screen below was great. A “mounted iPad” for an infotainment screen is not an upgrade
Having the Sirius XM radio channels come up like this is not bad, like Doug says, it’s wayyy better than previous XM control, where the system does not tell you all the nearby channels, it only used to tell you the channel above and one below your selection. Car looks good, feel good I am sure, but getting more and more expensive at 90k to start
I could see a list view on 2020 disco and 2016 rr sport. Did the pivi leave this off or do people just not know where it's buried?
@jeffreyjones3616 ohhh shoot, on my 2019 velar, no list, just the channel above it and below it. I have to figure out how to show the list, but I read the stinkin manual --- so I don't knowwhy it doesn't come up. Ohhh well

I may be wrong but it looks like a Ford Explorer to me
It's weird. I thought the previous Explorer looked like it 'borrowed' many of the older Rover's design features. However now the new Rover decided to incorporate the 'unique' Explorer elements into their new design... It's like they're cribbing off of each other! lol And I still don't know how Ford didn't get any complaints for completely copying the iconic Aston Martin Grille design for their 2013-2020 Focus models
So many poor people complain about Range Rover but never had one. People have to remember they don’t make this for the poor. My uncle has a 2019 RR Sport Autobiography with 77K miles and never had a problem. He always leased Range rovers over the past decade but he chose to buy the last one and never got stranded or any problems.
You forgot to mention that its gonna depreciate like hell, and all those fancy gadgets will break within the first few months of ownership
It's not, i mean after 5-6 years yes, like any luxury cars. But if you keep it for 1-2 years It doesn't depreciate that much, i actually sold mine for 20k more 1 year later
Mostly car will depreciate
I have both the 2023 X5 and 2022 Cayenne, in my opinion X5 is the better overall car. I respectfully disagree with the statement that every X5 owner wants to be in a Cayenne. Some Porsches like 911 and Taycan (which I had) differentiate Porsche brand, but not Cayenne. Maybe refreshed one is better, but I doubt it.
I wonder how many of these are actually purchased rather than leased. Given their lack of reliability and poor resale value, it seems like an odd duck to own outright
These are holding pretty well at the moment, I’d say once all the leases expire the prices will plummet.
I always have done better purchasing and trading before 30k miles so that dealer could set em up as certified preowned. Lease would have been more expensive... do you think that the dealer lease program doesn't account for depreciation too? 😂
They are actually selling a lot of them and resale value Is very good, at least here in Europe. I sold mine for 20k more than what i bought it for
The button at the back which for lowering. Is also for sitting down in the back watching horse racing or your kids play football.
Looks like a Ford Explorer to me!
What do you think about the reliability problems? Its one of my biggest concerns about LRover
Totally new, yet looks just like the old one 🤣
Me and my buddies cant wait to steal some of these
For a second I though Doug would say this is a 2011 Ford Edge
Leather free is so nice for those of us who want to feel better about our moral choices, while ignoring all other moral issues that go into sourcing every other part of the car. Ignorance is bliss
Hi Doug
What a car! One of the few SUVs that makes absolute sense and that has serious capabilities on and off road! Pity for the poor reliability, but under warranty i bet it's a great car.
Imagine spending over $80k just to look like a Ford explorer sport. 😂
Looks nothing like an Explorer though 😂
But with 540 horsepower
I wish you reviewed the powertrain more. You have a global audience, and this is still sold in many markets. If you like the I6, then I6 + 140hp e-motor sounds great.
