NEW 626bhp Range Rover Sport SV Gets BMW M5 Power

- SV replaces SVR. With the loss of a letter comes a gain in image. This isn’t the brash, boisterous car it once was. The hottest Range Rover Sport has been civilised. But don’t for one second think that it’s boring. The headline is still its whacking great V8, only this one’s been pilfered from the latest M5. Yep, this Range Rover is now packing BMW twin-turbo V8 power - 626bhp and 590lb-ft of it - allowing the 0-62mph time to fall by almost a second to 3.8s.
But that’s not all. Technology has been liberally applied here - chief among which is JLR’s ‘6D Dynamics’: cross-linked hydraulic dampers that pump fluid around at huge pressure to resist not just roll, but compression under pitch and dive. No other fast SUV has this level of chassis tech.
So, what else is there to know? And how does it all work? Join TG’s Ollie Marriage on a rather wet, and drifty journey into the unknown.

This, an Urus, or something else?
A Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
Bentayga, cullinan or DBX before this but I do love a Range Rover and I am curious if there will be an even more powerful SVR
JLR is failing.
I wonder how much money the company is gonna lose on those carbon fiber wheels.
@@lbnewell23 those are all more expensive. DBX is shit
Just happy someone is still releasing V8s in 2024
Why? doesn't it matter how many cynlinders you have under the hood, or is the performance numbers the most important?
@@Gladiator1972 Maybe because a bigger engine gives a better experience. The sound of an 8 cylinder is only beaten by that of a 10 or 12 cylinder. Which are even better. Beside, with more cylinders usually comes more performance.
Sound of the engine? don't you drive 99% of the time with the radio on?@@CasparPietersen
The mechanism of action for an EV is fundamentally different from an ICE vehicle, nothing to do with cylinders. To your point EV vs EV or ICE vs ICE you can compare pure numbers. 500hp in an EV does not equate to 500hp in an ICE V especially when it comes to 0-60 since the Torque for EVs works differently@@Gladiator1972
@@Gladiator1972 you're clearly not a car guy if you think having a 3cylidner engine or a V8 under your bonnet doesn't make a difference. Actually why are you even here if your view point is so gay?
5 litre supercharged engine is a monster. I have a 2010 XKR with all the Veisu goodies. 660 hp at the wheels.
nice! I had the f type r awd. Was a beast. Would of love to of tuned it.
what's owning the car been like? hard to imagine it's reliable as a lexus. If you've come across any issues what were they and how much did they cost to fix? and how easy or hard was the fix?
@@zaynalabideen1259I'd imagine the 5.0 aj v8 isn't unrealiable at all if you service it properly. Use a 0w30 or 40, change it every 15'000km and good to go. The trans is from zf, only thing that could fail is air suspension, but those 8 year old cars are still going
@@v12-s65it’s 0w20 or 5w20, but you need to actually change the oil in a realistic time, like 5-6k miles not the recommended 10k
@@ATX_Engineer
I know that, but I recommend NOT using a 20 grade oil.
It just doesn't make sense this ain't an engine for fuel economy land rover used it just for emission tests.
This is a 15 year old engine, I'm sure it will do longer on a proper 30 grade or 40. In the beginning, 5w30 was actually recommended. It surely does your timing chain a favor.
Btw recommended mileage for europe is like 15'000 miles for this engine. My evoque had 20'000 mile intervalls. I'm sure 9'000 are just fine, but I would also go for 6k-7k
The old SVR's are going to be even better bargains on the used market now
What kind of madman is buying an out of warranty Range Rover?
Me!
@@almac9203 LOL thankfully not you so there will be more for us to purchase.

I love the old SVR, never had many issues with all of mine. I find them more reliable than my X5 company car
BMW engine,McLaren suspension,Land Rover electronics..ticking time bomb!! 😂
Yes, not reliable cannot touch Toyota Land Cruiser in reliability. You can still have the car but must have money to repair it
Well the McLaren suspension and electronics are a bomb, BMW engine is amazing though. 2nd best in the industry. Second only to Toyota in reliability right now. 2022,2023, and 2024 they placed 2nd place in reliability. It’s why Toyota uses their engine for their sports cars. It’s close to as good in reliability, and significantly better in performance.
@@greenerick damn, you sure people with money thinks having Toyotas are all great?
@@prettycoolcat7039bmw v8 is well known for having reliability issues. Only reliable bmw engine is b58
@@G0ddEityawesome in the past maybe, but the new revised v8 engine from 2020 onwards is a gem.
Cannot wait to see modded 900-1000bhp Range Rovers coming just now!!
1000 hp Range Rover is the stupidest idea I've ever heard - you need a car that handles well enough for 1000 hp. I test drove a V8 autobiography with 550 hp I think, and that thing handled horribly on the roads on anything that wasn't a straight line, it just had too much power when you push it. The sport will peak at 700 hp on the road I think. The 510e sport is already rapid for a car of that size
@@all-caps3927 it has the engine, rest assured somebody will do it.
I could bet on it.

Love the sound of the old one..
2:26, The sound. It's to die for. Wow!
There is another large 4wd out there with hydraulic/cross linked dampers and it’s been in production since Dec 2012. The Nissan Y62 Patrol has Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) which is a passive suspension design that doesn’t require antiroll bars or electronics to operate. Works bloody well!
The only difference with the Nissan system is it doesn’t adjust the pressure while driving. It’s set at factory and that’s it. But they aren’t exactly a sports car for the corners.
the toyota land cruiser has had the same system foe significantly much longer starting around 2006 i think, the KDSS suspsension system, later with 4runner, lexus GX....
Yeah 4Runner has had it since 2010. Although this one sounds pressurized.
@@f3bomb the land cruiser and 4runner are pressurized too lol!! just go watch the videos on how it works.
@@f3bomb the Nissan HBMC runs around 25 bar of pressure. The difference that this system would seem to have is being able to switch from 30 bar to 100 bar as the video mentions.
I can’t even tell if this is the SVR or the normal Range Rover Sport. There’s little difference on the exterior, really miss the carbon hood on the older model. The new BMW twin turbo V8 is definitely a good engine, have good performance and reliability. But it’s just missing the character of the old supercharged V8 from JLR. At least the F-Pace SVR is still available
they did this deliberately because they didn't want people to know which model is which, but if you're a car enthusiast its easy to tell. Removing the carbon hood is only a good thing as the robbers, which cause these things to be a fortune to insure, won't be able to tell which models are SVRs
@@all-caps3927 The bonnet is still carbon, it is just painted to match the exterior in this variant
Beautiful drift , the kind of stability during drift and turnings is amazing.
This is now my dream car. I loved the normal 1 but this 1 is lit
Now that’s a beautiful beast and well powered
Looks cool, old SVR is still king
This 4.4L V8 BMW engine is awesome 😍🔥
I personally don't have any problem with the BMW twin-turbo V8, but the JLR supercharged V8 is hard to dismiss.
5.0 sc v8 is heaven to my ears
Yes agreed, but the bmw engine is just better more refined, more power more drama.

Made a video on the old SVR, already looking forward to trying out one of these
It does look very special, but I love the character of the old V8 (and am very fortunate to have one shoe-horned into an F pace body).
There is something very silly but glorious about a huge Range Rover powersliding around corners
Welcome to Portugal !
Carbon ceramic (the typical formation) brakes are expected to catch fire with heavy use. It's a given and it's harmless. Well, mostly harmless...
Thank God they haven't made it look like it belongs in Essex. I really like LR design at the moment, clean and simple designs.
The 5.0 Supercharger V8 was something else… this ain’t that bad tho
That track in Portugal...Is that the same track Hammond raced the Cayenne Turbo against that Skydiver waaay back in the day? Looks familiar.
A powerhouse collaboration!
Whats the maximum safe temperature for those carbon wheel? Cause technically speaking in some part of the world condition are extremely hot, and it definitely wouldn't be fun if those carbon wheels become soft tho
British chassis tuning with German powertrain? What a great combination!
Where is India?
@@WP0EU What india?, jlr is a merger company and registered as a british controlled company and controlled by Adrian Mardell the ceo /director of jlr who joined from 1990 at UK headquarters, Tata is a non executive director in jlr which means they has no involve in inside jlr, Tata get shares and get a position in parent companies of jlr with British holdings, bmw and Ford

The 1st generation RRS SVR will go up in price cause they were raw and aggressive.
Wake up cos you're dreaming this car will make the older one much cheaper. It's value will drastically be reduced to match that of a Toyota land cruiser.
It's a big question now?If you compare Face Lift X5M and that SV RR, which one would you choose?

At 6:52, “No other big, heavy SUV has tech to rival this”, but didn’t Rivian do this first with their suspension? I guess they’re not available in the UK yet but I’d say they were the first to put the McLaren suspension in a large SUV.
Great looking super SUV, the brake caliper stand out ( Front/Rear)
Infiniti QX80 Limited had hydraulic suspension also.
My concern with those RR SUVs is that they might roll over, easier than other vehicles such as X5 or Audi Q8 etc, especially if they get hit from the side, even at low speed, I've seen it happening on new models Discovery and on Defender and on older Land Rovers, so not sure about how the Sport would do in such situations?
Good luck insuring it 😂😂 Although you can use Land Rovers new insurance… oh wait they won’t insure you either 😂
Great work Ollie!
Should’ve used the beefed up N63TU3 out of the Alpina cars. More than enough power with even more torque and a much throatier exhaust note that actually sounds like a V8.
Will it break down regularly?
It looks and sounds amazing but I do worry about the reliability of the car!
With all their reliability issues and the previous history of problems with BMW engines, going back to BMW for a new engine is quite….bold. But it looks awesome in person and on paper. I hope this is a big success for LR.
Estoril Blue is/was a BMW colour - has never been a JLR colour
for the first time I can't decide if I like the sport or the fullsize more
Surely the off road modes/hardware/diffs etc could be an option these days, as most sport owners would leave that unticked?
I did like the JAGUAR V8 engine it used to sound amazing. Im not going to past judgement yet because i haven't driven it.
I always love it when I see a track and immediately recognize which it is
Is this the Edition One or the regular version?
love my 2023 X%MC with that same 4.4 L twin turbo!! I like the inside of the RR better . more Lux . but its quite pricey !!
Isn't this suspension similar to the Rivian r1S?
You never took it to its natural habitat of the city
It goes really fast, especially when you leave it parked in London.
*driving on road*, "so here we are, off-road" lol
BMW engine is depressing. The Jaguar/Coventry-derived Supercharged V8 was the greatest ever🔥💸
Turbos are mufflers, not just boostmakers. That's why it sounds SO WEAK
@@Blak_Gurl_Magik this also has the older s63 instead of the new s68 that BMW debut in 2022. But nonetheless quite an impressive vehicle.
@@Blak_Gurl_Magik Not even the fact that it's turbo, there are good sounding turbo engines. But BMW uses a cross-flow header that makes it literally sound like 2 very muffled inline 4's back at the exhaust which is far from exciting
100% agree. Had it in LR4 and later sport. It’s worth the maintenance.
@@Marc-ty5szWhat's the major difference between the S63 and S68 ?
Every review this guy does,, I can't really tell if he liked it or not... I could ask him what time it is, and he'd say; "well, it's not that hard to tell, is it?! It's same as yesterday..." You'd get more confused by his reviews than getting any solid answers or result!
They should sack the whole bunch of them. Incompetent, bland, catch phrase slinging wastes of money and resources
Something needs to be done
It's seriously off putting 😒
what can be done is if he could stick to the car he is reviewing! And THEN compare it to its rivals by mentioning its and their pros/cons, and then do a final conclusion wether this car is suitable as an SUV or not. Because, abviously this isn't a track car/suv, NO suv is, but it's all about handling, which they all manage well, but yet, they all are road cars, tracking a brick is pointless really. @@whackyworld-ds5yu

Range Rover's natural habitat is the repair shop, mate.
Lets not forget that BMW once owned Land Rover (Rover Group) from 1994 to 2000. The 1st gen BMW X5 shared the same components as the Range Rover (L322) with the Engine and electronic systems from the e39 5 series. BMW, the Most Controversial and sophisticated Car Manufacturering Company in the World 😂
This is what you call, a good review.
Thank God I will buy some for myself
Will it make any difference to JLR major reliability issues and lack of parts when they break down not to mention the blue collar crime in getting one fixed.
Who needs a sports car when you can have a Range Rover doing power slides like a boss? Luxury meets sideways fun!
Long live the L320 Autobiography.

It’s noticeable that you can visit three different videos on you tube all three saying different things opinions it’s a Range Rover regardless of what’s underneath although it should be reliable with a bmw engine and twin turbo
So I took delivery of mine last month. It’s nowhere near as good as the outgoing SVR. It’s just lost its soul on my opinion. The noise and theatre has gone. At £180k it’s way too expensive as well. Give it two years, and at 120/100k it’s a mega car, but absolutely not worth the money currently, which breaks my heart to say as I was so excited to take delivery of it.
@1:10 I thought they were called?pilot sport S 5
Range Rover are missing a trick. The natural habitat for any Range Rover is Chelsea High Street so they should release a 2WD, 4cyl hybrid with an external speaker to play the old supercharged V8 soundtrack and the same appearance package, wheels and tires. And still charge 175K for it. Most owners wouldn’t notice the lack of 3.8 sec 0-60 or anti-dive/squat hydraulic dampers, just that it looks like 175k.
I really want to know if this is the S63 or just a N63?
