Hey Annie and Christine! What a lovely collaboration you have. I can really relate to feeling that calmness and grounding in the countryside even when there is so much to do. I think that nature is such a big part of us. We have almost forgotten who we are so for many of us we have this strong ”calling” to get back to our roots, to our real home, nature.

I have this deep longing since so long to go and live in nature and more off-grid (maybe not a 100%, but still way more than I live now).. I am currently living in the Norh of Europe. More North like Scandinavia would be a dream come true. Not sure if I would be able to move over there.
I know age isn't everything, but I am not that young as the both of you still are! I admire you young people who make their dreams come true. I have two kids in their early twenties.... I hope they will follow their hearts like you did ❣

I came to your channel through Christine's channel. It was nice to see the two of you together. We don't live off grid, but in the countryside at least, with fire being our only heating. For the mice problem I recommend having a cat. They are also lovely creatures to live with.

I am from sweden but been living in the countryside of uruguay with my partner and 4 kids, we live in a old stonehouse and my god what challenging it has been BUT would never want to move back to the city, like you say: I never felt so alive and so in contact with my emotions, good and bad. Also we did it for the kids to be more in contact with animals and nature, thank you both for what you share! TACK!!:)

This was really heartwarming to watch and I'm truly happy that my recommendations suddenly decided to show it to me! ☺
What both of you say, is so relatable to me; especially how Christine described the feeling of coming home when she arrived at the cabin. That feeling is what I have every single time I come to my cottage and have had since I was just going to look at it "for fun" when I was searching for a new place in order to move out of the city. I may not be the off grid kind of person, but I always did consider the thought of being completely fine with having the cottage in the standards of a house from the 1800s as an option to leave the city completely. Until I met my partner, who found the same feeling of coming home in my cottage as I did when I first looked at it. And he would enjoy some running water and electricity. 🤪 Though we don't live in my cottage full-time yet, since it's somewhat a work in progress after being restored from being abandoned. It's a complete mess; the tools we use, working clothes, paint brushes, building materials, furniture, all of my moving boxes (still packed with things from the life I tried to live in the city stuffed into them, still not unpacked due to the lack of space since 2019) and all the other things that can go wrong while working on restoring an old building that has been sitting abandoned for nearly two decades ... All of that I somehow enjoy anyway. Perhaps not every minute of it, but I always find back to the right feelings. Even though some days are hard (like finally preparing to put up some new wallpaper and the past 100 years of layers old wallpapers and newspapers falls down and it turns out the wall behind them needs repairing too. That is the feeling of stumbling right before reaching the finish line) and makes you depressed that you feel like you never get anywhere with anything ... I still love it, my messy place that I like to call "home sweet home". I can sit on my chair in the mess, looking at a fire dancing in the fireplace with a cup of coffee or looking out the window and feel completely at peace. Only calmness and coziness. It's almost not possible to describe that feeling with words. But it's truly my place that I feel such belonging to, like I was meant to find it, a feeling that I hadn't ever felt until I found my way home to my cottage. 🥰

I am Jane living in Holland half Irish...
I had 8 ponys now by natural death down to 2.
These are my family.
I had rented a field, built stables and worked with kids for 34 years. Than my field was sold and i stood on the streed with then 6 ponys and 4 chickens and 2 cats.
Luckaly my Friends helped me to fiend my new place.
I have a sort of gipsy wagon which i turned into my tiny house.
And again i build stable fit my ponys.
Nu place is outside an industrieel area with a lot of trees, a ditch and lot of green.
I am so happy now. I live here for almost 6 years now...lost 4 more ponys at old age...2 left. 4 chickens from the rescue and moe rescue cat. Opening my door every morning saying hello to the world makes me happy.
I have a lot of ghosts but i manege.....

Such a wonderful Video you Made together, Thankyou. And I agree. We Humans where meant to Connect with Nature to grow and heal. And we need a life that pushes us out of our compfortzones to help us become the best version of ourselves, grounded, at peace and one with nature. I live in a studio apartment in a woodsy urban neighborhood in Seattle, Washington USA. While I can still enjoy the birds, trees, flowers, and a couple of nearby parks, I have to contend with traffic sounds outside including sirens from occasional emergency vehicles. So I gladly would love to replace the traffic sounds for the sounds of a woodpecker, trees rustling in the breeze, and stars that aren't hidden by light pollution of the city. I'm not too keen on sharing my space with mice. I still would like some modern conveniences, especially indoor plumbing, since I'm 69 years old and it's harder for me to fetch water from a stream. What would make me the most happy living in the countryside would be the peaceful quiet, slow pace, and sounds, smells, and sights of nature; enjoying the comings and goings of deer, birds, squirrels, rabbits, etc. I wish I could move but unfortunately I cannot at this time. If I could, however, I'd like to leave behind too much stuff I've accumulated, as well as the stress of living in the city. After watching your video, I still feel a longing for living in the middle of nature. At least I can vicariously experience it through your vlogs🐺🦊🦝🐿🦫🦔🐦🐾🦉🪶. Thanks for sharing! Jenny

What I think about the subject is that I really feel myself alive in the nature, specially for getting in contact with water and the woods and although I would love to live in a place like that I am not build for that. I am this kind of person who loves to have a strong social life plus I like the comfort of having any basic need met in a convenient way. I admire who step out and is happy living a lifestyle like that though. I think that bring us more to the reality to what really matters in life!

1. Definitely yes! I grew up with the sounds of birds and roosters crowing in the morning. And as a child, I hated the birds making a nest right above my bedroom window. I miss that now... I'd give anything to get those sounds back.
2. I'm doing it already, so yes 🤣 But my cats are trying to catch them. I'm used to it, even as a child there were mice everywhere.
3. I want to believe I would be resilient enough to go full off-grid. I find it hard to believe in myself.
4. Nature, the animals, the sounds. The quiet. The work.
5. Because I do not get happy living here, where there is too much noise, too many cars.

I would very much like to live more simply to connect more with nature because there is something inside me that says I want to be closer to nature, but also because I am very passionate about growing more food from scratch:

2. yes, I did it while I was at junior high school, or it is possible to get a cat and the problem is solved.
3. I have begun to withdraw more and more from the theory of using a gas stove in the winter.
4. nature and growing more food yourself.
5.I want lazy friends and family.
6. Yes, more than ever, when I think about living closer to nature and growing my own food, the inside starts to roar with joy.

I've decided already long time ago to do something similar. My plan is exactly an off-grid live in 10 years. (I am an 58 year old man). From that time on, I will not work anything, just living from my saved money. Hovever, my living style/standard will be far "lower" than that of yours. I want live without any electricity, and follow the live of the cavemen as far as possible. I have been learning all inds of bushcraft things, how to survive in the wilderness, etc.
I have been sleeping on hard surface already, for 2 decades approximately... And in the last 4 years I have been eating the socalled "raw carnivore diet", that is I eat only and exclusively raw meat (and animal fat) and raw offal: raw liver (the natural multivitamin!), raw kidney, raw brain marrow, raw bone marrow and so on, I drink fresh blood whenever it is possible (the natural energy drink!), and I eat certain insects, too (also raw): grashoppers, cicadas, crickets, locusts, May beetle, mealworms, superworms,.. sometimes even living earthworms!
This diet made very good to my health conditions, for example I lost weight, my depression is gone, no low back pain anymore, no itchy skin, more energy, and so on!
Anyway, in the last year I got rid off 95% of my things/stuff because I switched to the "minimalist" lifestyle. I am now close to reduce all my things that everything I own fit into a big albeit large military backpack and a handbag...
Holy moly! I have no doubt you would thrive with the lifestyle you are planning. Super-cave-man 🔥 Wishing you all the best.

It's really cool seeing two of my favorite Sweden based channels collaborating. Thank you for being honest about some of the struggles of living in such a remote setting, my fiance and I are in the process of looking for our forever home in the forests of Northern Sweden, preferably near Sollefteå. I am actually looking forward to freezing my a** off for the first time in almost 30 years, since I miss the cold winters of my childhood. I also wasn't aware that the south stayed snow-free for much of winter, is that the norm? Or is this year just unusually warm?

I also found your channel though christine, And I love it. I relate to the off grid dream as this is my dream because in the city I feel dead and souless and I can not wait too long before I get out to the off grid lifestyle, I am now working extremly hard to save up some money to do it as soon as I can . I just don't seem to be able to decide where about do I want to live off grid, how do you make such decision? do you have any insight about this?
I can say that it is important to me to live in a relativly possible closeness to other people so I can get a liitle friend one or two to share my life stories beside online.

We can - of course - totally relate to what you're saying. For us it was Sweden; because Julian had roots from his childhood there, and just KNEW. Me, I would never have guessed I would feel at home at such a (random) place 😄 But trying it out, coming again and again, now I have a longing, when I'm not there for too long. So my advice would be to explore. Maybe start by making a list of what you know you like. Warm or cold? North or South? What is available? I would love to do a guided visualization for you if I could 😄 Get you in contact with that soul longing. Maybe your body already knows the answer.

50 years ago, snowy winters all the way down south were much more common!
I live a bit north of Annie's place and we had winters until I was 20, with snow lasting from December to the end of March, every Winter!
