I lost my Aeroscout 1.1, but I got a carbon cub s 2 1.3 ,and I discovered a surprise. The D Switch will work for flaps ,cuz I got the RTF version the book says that you have to have a better radio but you don't, servo port #8 is a flaps control with servo in place.😆

thercsaylors would you recommend this for someone who has never flown? would the safe mode give me a fighting chance or should i still go the route of joining a club and having someone teach me to fly?

The GPS Module, also called SAFE Plus, will allow the aircraft to fly a holding pattern on its own, return home and land by itself. Initiated by holding the bind button down. See page 24 of the manual for details. Yes, I liked your video on this plane. C. Fulton

I bought an Aero Scout (because of this channel) and flew an RC plane for the first time in 25 years. I love AC3X and safe, if I had these back in the old days I would have never gotten out of the hobby! So yes, I think the new technology is wonderful and will make it much easier for newbies to start out and build confidence in those of us that need a little assist as we dust our wings off.

  • @gregmcclure2640
    @gregmcclure2640 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

The little "do-hickeys" on the wings are called vortex generators. They cause the air over the top of the wing to swirl and draw back onto the wing surface. They give more aileron authority at slow speeds and reduce the stall speed. Keep up the good work! You are ambassadors for the hobby, and have integrity!

I have been watching your channel for about 8 months now. Based on everything you have said and shown, I asked for a Sport Cub S2 for my 50th bday. I bought a few extra batteries and have been loving it. This plane is what I want to get for my next one. Thank you for the fun, informative and relaxing videos!

I bought my S2 Oct 15th 2020 and my Landing Assist Module arrived yesterday. It's a 3- 4 month wait for the LAS. I have waited to fly my plane until I had this part. I'm new to the hobby and bought the Carbon cub S2 as my first plane to ensure a successful maiden flight. Now we all know that things happen but thanks to RC sailors I'm feeling confident getting started in the hobby

I'd say it's good for the hobby. It's a lower threshold for beginners. I can say from personal experience, wrecking your first plane on the maiden flight is extremely discouraging. So anything that helps keep the plane from wrecking long enough to actually get experience with it is a good thing.

You two make a wonderful team: Intelligent, talkative, and capable! I am sure your audience loves your constant commentary. It is frustrating when a TH-camr just shows a plane flying. Thank you for your reviews. They have definitely increased my enjoyment of the hobby. I've been flying RC since about 1970 but your reviews have helped me with evaluating the benefit of the new technology and the amazing new foam airplanes. I bought the Carbon Cub S+ for my 6 year old grandson in Australia and he could handle the controls in beginner mode beside taking off and landing. I think an inexperienced person should use an experienced one to set up the plane. You must have put the landing gear fairing on upside down to tease the audience.

the carbon cub s+ is my first plane. Without technology probably i had never start fliyng. I've never used the GPS and strip it down after a pair of flight, but still use the intermediate SAFE technology, helps me alot in very windy conditions. Had a lot of crashes but still fliying very strong. I made a small modification to the front gear applying some elastic retainer to make it stiffer in hard landings

Great video. I want to start with this hobby and been looking on many different videos to learn all kind of things to find out what to get. A simulating program seems to be the best and first thing to get. But maybe an idea of what you goal you have with it is a good idea too. Have seen those videos with Ardupilot and other auto flight system where I want to get to and it seems to me that this air plane can be built further on with that in mind.

Morning Nate & Amy, I just got my CC S2, on the first power up of the Tx and plane, the elevator went to full down, the rudder went to full right and the ailerons went to full left roll,,,,,,,, the front LED started flashing red & blue,,,,,,,, the Tx wouldn't control anything, I looked in the owners manual, no mention of the front LED pattern other than flight mode colors, went online and found nothing,,,,,,,,
I had nothing to go by and nothing to lose so I tried rebinding I did that and all's well now, these are supposed to be bound at the factory,
Still looking forward to first flight, kinda waiting for the other two module's to show up, thought they came with the PNP kit, you should mention some of this about the kit in your unboxing and assembly video, also mention that if you follow the instructions rather than trying to guess how it goes together the project will go along better.
Did you do an unboxing and assembly review?

I first tried my hand at model aircraft flying back when you had planes on two wires 50 years ago! It was disaster on the first flight! I now have this Carbon Cub and I bought ALL the options (LAS, GPS,etc.) I would have NOT been enticed to purchase it if had didn't have these options. I'm hoping my second attempt at model aircraft works better than my first! (I have managed to accumulate 10,000+ hours at the controls of real airplanes between my two model aircraft attempts!)

As a total noob, I got this plane partially because of the "training wheels" / Safe mode (I don't have landing assist though). For me, it reduces the chance of spending a lot of $$ (to me), then breaking it before enjoying it. I only have a few flights, but love it. Landing w/o landing assist has been easy, even for a noob like me.

Have you flown the Aeroscout and how does it compare to a beginner RC plane vs. the Carbon Cub ?

    Hi Nate and Abby
I had the first version of this with GPS and it worked great, virtual fence, auto land etc. But one day while flying nicely it just turned and went straight ahead across the river never to be seen again. It is somewhere in the Palm Oil Plantation here in Malaysia... HH did stand behind it and sold me a new one for 1/2 price.

I have the S+ and love it. I fly with the GPS turned off as it takes forever to figure out where it is so I can fly. I also like the beginner mode as if you let go of the sticks, the plane goes level and flys on (no crash). So, if I am in mode 2 or 3 and have a problem, I just click it to mode 1 and the plane saves itself. I never could get the auto landing function to work - may be a GPS or compass problem. Still afraid to try loops or rolls but will someday. Nice first plane though. I get 6 minutes of flight time on a battery.

Hey that’s awesome Jim! Glad you like your S+! Yeah the GPS does take more time to set up than without, so we understand wanting to just get up in the air to fly quicker! That’s why we like electric over gas and glow! Happy Flying Jim! 👍😀⚓️

Appreciate your posts. They’re accurate info.
I have a question on CC S2. I have GPS, LAS & Flap upgrades. Have 3 positions working on the Flaps, Not sure LSI is working. Plugged into Channel 7 on Flight Controller. And it is facing the right direction. The light on the windscreen seems wrong. It flashes green and red (not purple). Is this an error in setup? Any idea what is the correct install? If flap setup is of interest I’ll share what I did. It is not obvious and HS instructions are pathetic. At least to a novice.

The panic recovery is simple flipping the top left toggle (flight modes) to beginner and the plane recovers. This obviously only works when you are in intermediate or advanced mode to start with. I've used that action several times to save myself from crashing while practicing in intermediate mode flight. And the landing gear skirts issue, I used 2 extra small clear zip ties after drilling small wholes in the skirt and securing to the wire gear. (Learned that from another experienced RC U-tuber online).

I dug a little and realized there is an additional "recovery" that will "auto land" the plane if it loses signal. It basically spirals down to the ground till it hits the ground. Better than just flying away! Thats what I was trying to get it to do in this video.

The elevator down issue is because you need to set it up with the plane level, not sitting on the landing wheels. Otherwise it will have no down elevator except for advanced mode/only as3x mode. That way the flight controller is set at its regular level flight, as opposed to a tail dragger that has the motor pointing to the sky when sitting on a table.
You put a pile of books under the rear wheels to level it and then Bind it and do all that stuff again..

"And you can instantly return to steady flight using Panic Recovery with the push of a button in any flight mode." That is in the descrpition on the HobbyZone page for the Carbon Cub S2. "Panic Recovery mode at the push of a button to prevent loss of control and crashes" is on the Horizon Hobby page for this plane. The PDF manual says "Button I operates PANIC mode when pressed" on page 7 but you have to assign AUX1 to button I. Later on it says "At any time release both sticks to activate panic recovery mode for self-leveling."

Would you recommend to install the flaps before installing the LAS? What range of batteries have to tested in this plane?

Looking at ad for this, it says it does have a panic button, it is shared with the bind button. I'd like to know how it works as well.

I am looking to buy my 1st plane soon but I don't have a huge budget for RC so I will only be able to buy 1 for the next few years probably. Looking for recommendations so far between Carbon Cub S2 and E-Flite Valiant.

I have the Carbon that came with the DXS tx and worked ok until I restored factory settings by mistake. Now I can bind it byt the ESC doesn't seem to work. It may only work in beginner, or it will run at full throttle regardless of the throttle lever, I can only cut it using the D switch.

I started the RC hobby last December and now have 2 RC vehicles. Redcat Everest 10 (Crawler) Losi Rock Rey (Rock Racer). Now I would like to try airplanes. I like everything I'm seeing about the Carbon Cub S2 so this may be my first RC plane. What is the largest battery that will fit?

Bought this little jewel a couple months ago. Probably 35 to 40 flights in to it now. Ripped all the ''technology'' out of it as soon as I got it home. Not real happy in high winds but flies beautifully overall.

Guys, enjoy your videos, sorry had ordered the plane before seeing your link. Curious to see if you have a source for the landing sensor, seems world wide back order. Found one source that allows backorder purchase, H.H. but wouldn't mind having another. Good videos.

Ok I am a micro copter guy, got some large stuff but do have preference for WL toys V911 size, xeidas 9958, E119,E129 As far as tech in the hobby goes I have been in last 6 years or so, it has leaps and bounds from 2013 I like it, however for the new pilots it is awesome.

I have an E-flite Timber in a fly zone beaver could it be used in those obviously I would have to make a cut out to install it but I'm using a ar636a receiver in those planes six channel would it work

I see a lot of people asking if this is a good first plane. yes it is. It was my first plane about 5 years ago. It's slow and floaty. With safe, it's very hard to crash. The GPS is kind of a gimmick though in my opinion. I always disabled it. But the plane is a great flyer. I still have mine. Get this or the apprentice.

I just placed my order for this plane last night. I ordered both the gps and las. I was wondering if both will work in tandem or is it one or the other with the rtf version? Both modules are on back order so i will get the plane first then the modules but i also am wondering if i get flaps will i have to upgrade to a different transmitter then the one it comes with? Thanks to whoever might be able to answer these questions
