Do you have multiple budgies or just one? The problem with having multiple budgies is that they’d more likely be willing to spend time with each others and not you, which makes it very hard to tame them. Also I’d like to mention that all birds are different. Some budgies are naturally laid back and some may take months or even years to tame. My male budgie was luckily a very easy bird to tame. It took a month to get him on my finger and outside his cage. My female budgie however, was very skittish and wouldn’t step on my finger. I had her for months and she never really got used to me. Unforunately I had to give her away to someone else, cause things weren’t working out. The first step in taming your budgie, is to get him used to you and your hands. Make sure he’s absolutely comfortable around you and your hands. Signs include: preening in your presence, singing/chirping, puffing his feathers and standing on one leg (this may also be a sign of sickness). Next thing to do is to get him on your hand. Don’t force it! Lure him with treats and try making him step up by lifting your hand to your budgies chest level (birds like high places and are more likely to step up than down). After this you can start taking him out of his cage, train him, play with him, whatever. Remember to not force him! It’s the best way to lose his trust. Good luck:)
Philipp S. I never said it’s better to have one budgie. It is easier to tame your budgie when you only have one. I’m speaking from experience. im so exited! i just got two budgies a few days ago, and one of them sat on my finger for the first time!! i cant wait until they're hand tamed so i can play with them!
I have four budgies (2 of them were rescued) and it wasn't as hard as some people said it was to tame em.they had never had human interaction before. Just spend time with young budgie(the younger it its the closer the line is on their head) put your hand in the cage and slowly get it closer. Offer your bird veg/fruit and treats to make sure it eats from your hand.Do this every hour or 2 then eventually make it perch on a small stick. This stick will make it less confronting than a finger(do try though) then move on to perching on your finger with a treat of sorts to entire them.Introduce them outside the cage in a small safe environment until your bird is happy either way. Make sure to begin with you give them 2 days of adjustment. If you love them the process will become faster and more efficient. Thanks for the advice though @Kevin and Krista Extras but I do think your bird was already tame because it was in a pet store had a lot of human iteration so it kinda felt chill with humans.Budgies are very social birds and even if you have a mirror they need a friend
You helped me so much I just let my cockatiel out of the cage today and he was on my finger, shoulder, back, head before he was SO scared of me thank you so much!❤️
I got a budgie a week ago, and i got them from an breeder who "hand raised" them. Their definition of hand raised, was probably grabbing the bird with their hand. When the breeder got the two birds for me, he put his hand inside the cage and GRABBED the bird. It's taking a while to tame my lovely "hand-raised" budgies. my theory is, that the budgie is traumatised by my hand, since the breeder didn't really treat them properly, and grabbed the budgies hard.
Oh god...my baby budgie was actually hand tame and I mean tamed perched finger . My budgie still is getting used to me he’s getting way better with perching on my finger and aiming where to fly I’m very happy with my little budgie I remember when my budgie smacked himslef around the house trying to fly . But now he will aim where to go and fly I’m teaching him how to not fly as much (only fly when it’s needed or when he should ) I’m still fine with him flying it’s just when he keeps flying my budgie is on the roof of his cage right now and he won’t leave his spot . ..... I feel like it’s his new home?.oh well I’ll get him out soon
Normally, when I'm cleaning Cleo's (my budgie's) cage, I like to let her run free and get some exercise. But the thing is that I can't always watch her when I'm doing that. I'm afraid that she'll go under and behind things that I can't reach. And she's also a bit afraid of my hand so when I try to get her, she runs away. Do you know of there's a way I can let her explore and still keep an eye on her without her getting hurt or stuck? I do have a travel cage that I put her in but it's so tiny and I feel bad. Sorry if I am making no sense or not using my brain and being an idiot lol. I just don't have much time on other days to let her out of her cage. Thanks if you reply
Cleo the Budgie - As far as her getting hurt, I think as long as she's not flying near a hot stove or something clearly dangerous, it's okay to just let her explore. Like anything, there may be a little risk involved, but chances are she won't get seriously hurt. I'd just check on her periodically, and if she does get stuck, just help her out and you can both chalk it up to a learning experience. As far as getting her back in the cage, her fear of your hand is a separate issue, so you might want to work on that before letting her out and having to rely on handling her to get her back in. Good luck!
My budgie recently came out of the cage and hit a window and is now afraid of coming out. I’ve restarting his taming over again to re-gain his trust which I havnt finished yet but I’m worried that he will keep hitting windows if he comes out. How did you get pillow used to being out the cage? I really need to know 😭😫
umm i need your help kevin, my budgie, Ari does not eat fruits i've tried putting seeds on the fruit but he only eats the seeds and i also don't want that i want him to just eat it, what should i do?
Also do any of your birds fly on top of their cage when they are out and stay there? My budgie does this and I don’t know if it’s anxiety or something else.
I didn't use spray millet, but I used these seedling grasses (grass with seed on them), it worked fine so yes I'd definitely agree with luring them with food. I found that my budgie was very scared but when it came to that grass he came right on to my hand. Also I have a question, I had a budgie before called Sky, and we let Sky out to have freedom, we closed the curtains but he somehow got behind it and I think he banged right into it (I heard a loud bang and found him behind the curtains). (He died after that) So I'm not rlly sure how to bring my new budgies (Lemon and Charlie) out and not get them to bang on the windows. (Like in a big area; lounge) I have been able to let them have a bit of a play in a bedroom but they aren't rlly allowed on the clothes or bed... Btw I have a hard surface floor (wood). Is their any advice on how I can get them to walk/fly around without banging into windows(my windows are huge btw)? I definitely think your video is very helpful from my experiences as well tho! (:
Jenny Meng - Sorry about Sky! Are Lemon and Charlie's wings clipped? They won't be able to get nearly as much height or speed with clipped wings, so there's less chance of them really slamming into a window. (Pillow bumped once or twice when he was younger, but never got hurt.) Then you can let the wings grow out once they're older and are more familiar with their space.
I agree the younger the bird no matter what breed the more calm and tame its going to be .. 3 to 8 weeks old is the best window to tame any breed bird ;)
I have 4 birds. They step up very quickly, and eat from my hand happily. But the minute I try to take them out, and calmly feed them food, the get scared and jump off. This has happened twice. I then cannot get them back up on my hand. Even trying to lure them onto my finger with millet is no use. Any advice?
Bell Iron Fist Yep me too, I got them a year ago and they are tamed but they never want to get out the cage. They will but after 5 minutes they’ll fly back in. I kinda gave up but I know feel guilty... So I decided to give it one more shot! Since I love my parakeets and want them to have a healthy life. My advice is to keep trying. If it helps just put the cage on the floor and take the lid off. Wait till they’re used to it, so they will feel more comfortable to come out.
Bell Iron Fist - You may want to just leave the door open and let them come out on their own, so they can do it at a pace that's comfortable for them. Good luck!
Bell Iron Fist what I would do is put millet and seed outside the cage and just leave the cage door open and I bet they will come out to eat the seed and millet hope this helps😊
ok hi i need help with my budgies that ive acquired! they are about a year or two old and havent been socialized very well by previous owners. ive had them for about 2 weeks now. one (novi) is comfortable with me holding her but she will try to fly directly back to the cage unless i take her out of the room. the other one (novak) will not let me handle him at all. he flies away and if he holds still long enough for me to get him he will bite me, and hard enough to break skin. ive tried everything to get him used to me, but nothing is working. id like some help or advice pls???
Grayson Vallotton - Have you tried using food to get him on your finger? Most budgies love spray millet. Try holding it so he has to sit on your finger to eat it. Just a suggestion. Good luck!
Umm well when you said to not take your hand away I followed that and my budgie kept biting and almost just drew blood it hut so bad and still hurts so I am taking his fav toy out for 5 minutes (HE IS NORMALLY CHIL BUT HAD A MOMENT)
My budgie was tamed but I recently got him 2 more budgies so he can be happier and it’s like he forgot everything he doesn’t let me grab him or anything, what can I do? I feel like he is just trying to fit in with the other birds by pretending to me scared of me
Budgies are naturally more interested in other budgies than humans which is probably why he ignores you. They’d much rather prefer to hang out with their own species.
Well....I have 2 budgies and I’ve had them together but I used to keep them in separate cages and train them but every now and then I would put them in the same cage and then separate them again and once I had them both completely tame and I put them in the same cage and they were fine so what I recommend is keep the tame one in a separate cage and let him glimpse the other two every now then but of course if he’s used to them don’t do that because he’s get super lonely and won’t even try.
I got two for Christmas, still have not been able to coax them out of cage. One will sit on my finger but jumps off. The other goes postal if I try and touch him.
So I left my bird in her cage for a little more than a week (she is 3 months old) before I let her out of her cage but I constantly put my hand in there and made sure she wasn’t scared of me (she actually never was scared of me and she never bited my hand as of right now) is that ok?
Can you guys give me advise like if I put my hand in the cage already and tried to pick them up can you tell me how to fix them not being scared of me anymore because I really want them to be happy with me and it just hurts that it’s difficult that I can’t tame them as well as yours
I've had two budgies for about one and a half years. One of them died 5 months ago and I've tried to tame the other one, but he won't budge. How do I tame a single budgie I've had for a while? Please help I'm kinda desperate.
Pillow is adorable !! I have a question. I let my budgie out every Friday and want to let her out more but she never goes back in even when I know and see that she wants to. I think it’s because she doesn’t know how to fly from the top of the wardrobe back in her cage or maybe she doesn’t know where the cage is. Do you have any suggestions pls help me. Ps she isn’t tamed.
When first getting any bird if you leave them in the cage for a week or longer they will become territorial to the cage. When you bring them home let them come out of the travel cage on their own. Have them out hanging around you during the rest of the day. They get used to you faster and be more comfortable. You guys have done a great job with your birds!
I adopted my parakeet, blu from the humane society. His oeners were moving and didn't want him so I got him. I tamed him by constantly being around him, and putting his cage right next to ne wherever i was. It was a little harder since his wings weren't clipped so i would let him out to burn off energy and he would eventually go back home. I would sing and read to him and eventually he would get used to me i moved to hand feeding and it got to the point where he would come to me its worked well and tonight he let me rub his cheek so its still a work in progress.
Hi! I have a sky blue budgie, his name is Frost. He's 7 months old now, I got him from a pet store a few months ago, he wasn't ever handled by humans and was scared of them. Though he is pretty active and playful now, he isn't scared of me anymore. He also now happily sits on my hand in his cage, he sings to my nails too and dances. XD He comes to my hand without any treats. So now that he's used to me, I want to take him out of his cage. I have a bird proof area in my room where I free fly my doves and Cockatiel. The only problem is, I'm afraid that how will I get him back in his cage? He is used to me, but I'm still scared that what if I accidentally scare him or anything. And I still thing that he might not come to my hand outside. Especially since he only comes to my hand whenever he wants to. He doesn't bite or gets scared, he just preens his feathers or starts eating his food and ignores me if he isn't in the mood to come. Though when he wants to come, he acts like an extremely playful tamed Budgie. I just tried free flying in my room yesterday. I showed him my finger outside the cage with the door opened. He jumped towards the door and tried to come to my finger but he didn't wanted to leave his cage. So after half an hour I stopped and closed his cage door. So if you'd have any advice that would be really appreciated! Thank you so much! ^^ (I'm sorry for any mistakes, I'm German!)
Ryuga The Dragon Emperor - I'm afraid I don't have any specific advice except to keep working with him. Hopefully he'll just get used to what you're trying to do, and cooperate. Good luck! 😊
Just got my parakeet, she's sporadic as heck and won't let me get my hands close to her. I'm trying to feed her millet but she isn't very food motivated !
I’ve searched everywhere and my bird hates every treat I mean he likes Millet but when he comes out of the cage sometimes he eats it but he doesn’t eat it out of my hand :(
What am I doing wrong? I try to train my budgies but every time I put my finger in the cage they climb on then got back on the stick I try to take them out but they will just fly back in they always want to stay together and only a few times one came out and stood on the cage trying to get back in and they have been with me for 3 months already I just want them to like me I'm not mean to them and they are not a baby or old they are in there teen area I even give them treats when they do something like if they at least try to get on my finger but I'm guessing it's not working because all they want are the treats And there are 2 of them Please answer back
lucks lucks - It sounds like if you have more than one and they're not babies, they've probably already bonded to each other, and have less reason to bond with you. I'd continue with the hand feeding of treats, because even if that's all they're interested in, at least it will get them used to standing on your finger on a regular basis, and they'll be more comfortable being out of the cage. And then who knows what could happen in the future. Good luck!
When I first let my bird ever sents we did that he is more like loud when ever take him out he always like just sings but when we put him in he screams 2 hours non stop till we come then he get quite because he think we are going to let him out again I think we let him out at least 1 in January wait till Valentine’s Day let him out wait till July 4 then wait till November to hanks giving we don’t let him out on hallow... then Christmas year after year after year
thanks for making this video. It was very informational on what to do in some cases and what not to do in others. I want to get a budgie so im doing lots of research and so far this video has been the most helpful. Also im twelve years old do you think a bird is good for me. Im also pretty sure i will be the soul taker of this bird and i go to school for almost 8 hours a day. Im willing to put the time in but i would like an extra opinion.
As long as you research a lot and know what you’re getting yourself into, you’d make a great owner. I too go to school and what I like to do is to give my budgie lots of different toys, swings, perches etc. to keep him entertained while I’m gone. As soon as I get home, I train him and play with him and sometimes walk around the house with him.
Sara White - I agree with Bird Lover - as long as your bird is entertained, he should be fine without you. You can also play videos of other birds chirping if say, you're home but not able to spend time with him. Then he'll feel like he has company.
Do you guys plan on teaching pillow or even your new parrot when you get it any tricks. I think it’d be awesome to see a video series on how you teach your birds do some simple tricks and how they take to trick training :)
I know this video is old but it got recommended to me at the perfect time. I started feeling anxious about my bird.... its been almost 3 or 4 days since I've had my little budgie, but I felt like I went to fast for her at the beginning. I also felt like I was bothering her to much at night (her cage is by my bed) so I was feeling very guilty. But I haven't noticed anything bad that made me assume I was bothering her to much at night. My baby is about 6 months old. I am trying my best not to give up. I just want to make her happy and not go faster than she's comfortable with. I am scared to open her cage and let her fly around tho. She doesn't trust me enough to step up yet and I don't want to chase her around my room when I need her to go back in her cage. If anyone has advice for that please let me know because I am unsure how to get her to trust me enough to let me put her back in her cage. Should I use a perch and millet? Should I use a towel? How do I approach her like of she's on my floor and I need her to go back in her cage? I don't want her to freak out and fly into my wall. Also she's been sneezing every now and then so I am not sure if it's normal or if I should take her to a vet. If I need to take her to a vet how do I make that a good experience? Also she won't come to me when I hold millet but if I put it close to her she'll lean forward and eat it. She'll slowly inch closer to me, but she's still unsure of my hand. When she wants attention or some millet she'll sit on a specific perch and when she's ready for bed she climbs up to a specific high perch with her back to me. Today she's started chirping on her own without any budgie sounds. I don't want to give up on her but yesterday and this morning my anxiety was so bad I started crying. I dont want to give her away so soon and give up on her, but I want her to live the best life she can. My mom said I was humanizing her too much, but idk if that's really a bad thing.
My budgie pineapple doesn't open his mouth when he wants to bite. He just targets hit pointy part of his beak then he just pokes me hardly SUPER fast so I won't be able to take my hand away cause he will get a bite....he doesn't even wanna give me a warning... ;'(
Kerstin Bak - Soon, hopefully. I'm bogged down at work right now, but we're trying to carve out time. We just want to have time to give it enough attention. 😊
@@kerstinbak8039 thats not true, it depends on how much time you spend with your birds. i have 4 budgies and they are all very tame, you just need to have patience.
So I have a completely different experience I did not have a hard time at all it is something like the situation you got but my budgie is 2 and a half years old It just seems like you should give it a little space not like a week even a hour letting the budgie outside is okay It's just what I recommend
My budgies had babies 2 full white ones and 1 blue and white just like the mom. The blue baby’s name is galaxy. The chubby white one is named sugar. The last one is skinny. Galaxy and sugar hop on my grandmas hand. A sad thing happened. The mom was hitting the baby and the father. So my grandma moved the galaxy with our other bird. He was doing fine but when galaxy asked the other bird for food he wouldn’t give him food because he doesn’t know how to. So my grandma tried to move his original dad with the baby bird, but the door was open when we did it. So she graved him and he went flying away. We found him on a tree but when we tried to get him he went flying away and never came back. 😭😭😭😭😭
Try mashing banana or boiling and mashing carrots etc. and sprinkling their favorite treat on it (maybe millet). That's what I did for mine who hated anything but treats and pellets. Now she is very adventurous for any new food. You can also try the same thing with a little of pure canned pumpkin.
Pillow must of been more laid back as I've recently gotten a parakeet that is very bold and it's been hard to tame him
Buck, Collin, Chip - I think Pillow was just naturally chill. Good luck with yours!
How is your parakeet?

Mine was the same get them through a breeder and one that isnt easily scared... more bold
.. mine was 7 weeks and very easy to tame x
I love these videos I have watched every video on them thanks for the info
Melissa Kutch - thanks for watching - glad the vids are helpful! 😊
I bet after this I will finally tame my birds thank you guys
Manu Thuruthicadan - Good luck! 😊
My budgie pecked me the first time i ever got her out and she was still really young now she still pecks me do you have any advice
I agree the younger the bird no matter what breed the more calm and tame its going to be .. 3 to 8 weeks old is the best window to tame any breed bird ;)
I had my coco and brave about a year. Do they feel when I'm sick ? Because they never come to me
I have a bird named jade ( I have another bird pawly(Polly)) she is 3 months and scared
Parrot Pals - Good luck with them!
Kevin and Krista Extras she is slowly like really slowly getting use to my presamce
Thanks for all the information!!😃
Random Unicorn Fox Animations! Thanks. I hope you and your birds have fun!
Bell Iron Fist - You may want to just leave the door open and let them come out on their own, so they can do it at a pace that's comfortable for them. Good luck!
Kevin and Krista Extras Thanks!
Good luck!
@@KevinandKrista i will try that, thanks for the advice !!
Umm well when you said to not take your hand away I followed that and my budgie kept biting and almost just drew blood it hut so bad and still hurts so I am taking his fav toy out for 5 minutes (HE IS NORMALLY CHIL BUT HAD A MOMENT)
Hi! I’m getting two Budgies some time soon. If there is any advise anyone could give me would be great! 😁
THANK YOU!!
I have cats- any tips to help? I want to train my bird but I don’t want my. Cat to hurt her
My budgie was tamed but I recently got him 2 more budgies so he can be happier and it’s like he forgot everything he doesn’t let me grab him or anything, what can I do?
Try separating them but keeping there cages close. Then, you can train each bird in their own cage
Try putting them all in different cages
How did you guys train pillow when you just got him didnt it take you about 2 weeks
I loved pellow bird he is so cute. i was have one like this and and my sister was hade a blue bird but it was canary 🐥🐦🕊
I got two for Christmas, still have not been able to coax them out of cage. One will sit on my finger but jumps off. The other goes postal if I try and touch him.
Okay thxx so so soooo much!!!
Will this work on zebra finches?
Im getting a 2 birds in my new house one is a budgie the other is a cockatiel what should I name them
So I left my bird in her cage for a little more than a week (she is 3 months old) before I let her out of her cage but I constantly put my hand in there and made sure she wasn’t scared of me (she actually never was scared of me and she never bited my hand as of right now) is that ok?
Can you guys give me advise like if I put my hand in the cage already and tried to pick them up can you tell me how to fix them not being scared of me anymore because I really want them to be happy with me and it just hurts that it’s difficult that I can’t tame them as well as yours
Ok so what if my parakeets are still skittish even though they have been there for like 2 months
8:20 how did you train that kid to sit on your shoulder quietly?
How much did the bird and all his stuff cost?
My budgie was a year old when i got giving her she was rescured i still mange to teach her to be tame to i cant keep them no more because off asma.
fiona morgan - Aw, sorry to hear that! 😥
Did you already get the new bird ? I will love see that video
Lupita De Sanchez - Not yet - hopefully soon! 😊
I'll be waiting for that video an thought about which bird ?
Love your vids😘
Lucas Bataru - Thank you! 😊
My budgie was “naturally tame” as well. He was very laid back when he was younger but now older he is very energetic now lol.
My parakeets still run to the back of the cage whenever a talk to them and i dont know why
Nice
EARLY!!! Awesome video

Im a new subscriber and ima get 1 budgie or nor 2 and gonna get some toys for the bird get food and a good cage!
You guys really did get lucky. I have mine 3 weeks and still cant get anywhere.
I cant open the cage door andbleave it open they will never go back inside and I have to chace them for hours whay do I do?
I agree. I kept mine in the cage for 2 weeks without taking him out and he was scared of me when I wanted to take him out
I have a budgie it is the type of budgie that never grew with stripes how will I know the age? I think it's a baby it looks like a baby
i just got an Indian ring neck i always let them no i wont hurt them on the first day got her at 530 and now shes cuddleing
I know why because pillow came from a breeder if they got one from a pet shop them it soukd be harder to taim
Ronielle pillow came from a pet store
How do I know the age if the bird is fully yellow?
How do I get my new budgie that I got yesterday to eat? He hasn’t eaten yet 😔
Thank you!!!!!!
I need this video !!
I’ve searched everywhere and my bird hates every treat I mean he likes Millet but when he comes out of the cage sometimes he eats it but he doesn’t eat it out of my hand :(
I have 2 budgies and only 1 of them are starting to be tame
Why pillow always flying jump?
What am I doing wrong? I try to train my budgies but every time I put my finger in the cage they climb on then got back on the stick I try to take them out but they will just fly back in they always want to stay together and only a few times one came out and stood on the cage trying to get back in and they have been with me for 3 months already I just want them to like me I'm not mean to them and they are not a baby or old they are in there teen area I even give them treats when they do something like if they at least try to get on my finger but I'm guessing it's not working because all they want are the treats
And there are 2 of them
Please answer back
lucks lucks - It sounds like if you have more than one and they're not babies, they've probably already bonded to each other, and have less reason to bond with you.

I have had a blue budgie for two years. I can NOT get her to trust me. I really want to have it to like me. I need some tips. I have tried everything.
thanks for making this video.
Bird Lover thank you l for responding I definitely will do just that.
Sara White - I agree with Bird Lover - as long as your bird is entertained, he should be fine without you. You can also play videos of other birds chirping if say, you're home but not able to spend time with him. Then he'll feel like he has company.
Kevin and Krista Extras thank you so much for responding. This is great advise and I really hope I can get one.
Do you guys plan on teaching pillow or even your new parrot when you get it any tricks. I think it’d be awesome to see a video series on how you teach your birds do some simple tricks and how they take to trick training :)

I need tips! I’m a new owner of a budgie. Any advice? :D
He just targets hit pointy part of his beak then he just pokes me hardly SUPER fast so I won't be able to take my hand away cause he will get a bite....he doesn't even wanna give me a warning... ;'(
My buggy runs back and forwards when he wants to come out of his cage to
When are you getting the other bird?
Kerstin Bak - Soon, hopefully. I'm bogged down at work right now, but we're trying to carve out time. We just want to have time to give it enough attention. 😊
@@KevinandKrista pillow might not stay as tame if you add a 2nd bird
@@kerstinbak8039 thats not true, it depends on how much time you spend with your birds. i have 4 budgies and they are all very tame, you just need to have patience.
@@gasbrikkki Thats true thank you for advice
I cant get my budgie tamed :( i had him since he was 2 months and he is 1 year now... :(
Lol I had mt bugdgie for about 4 months now, and I cant even get close to them without them running away ;-; but its okay
So I have a completely different experience I did not have a hard time at all it is something like the situation you got but my budgie is 2 and a half years old
It just seems like you should give it a little space not like a week even a hour letting the budgie outside is okay
It's just what I recommend
Blossoms Vlogs - Aw, sorry to hear that! 😥
Do you take out of the house
My budgie Bieber loves his cage
I had a cockatiel and I figure a budgie bite is a pinch
My little bird is scared of me how can he know me better and let him be with me every time
I can't believe he ate veggies that fast! I have had mine for a month and he hasn't shown interest in them at all!
Try mashing banana or boiling and mashing carrots etc. and sprinkling their favorite treat on it (maybe millet). That's what I did for mine who hated anything but treats and pellets. Now she is very adventurous for any new food. You can also try the same thing with a little of pure canned pumpkin.
