- Hello everyone back with another video! We have a new little addition to our family, a beautiful baby boy Quaker parrot named Kiwi! We got him when he was 4 months old and honestly, I had forgotten what it was like to bring home a new bird. I also have never owned a baby bird only rescues so this has been all new to me and I have learned a lot! If you are wondering what to look forward to and things that will happen this video should cover the basics.

"it's gonna be like having a clingy little baby that follows you everywhere." - Oh no!... I'm in, tell me more! 😂
I noticed that wherever I watch your old or new videos it's always very informative and you have calm collected composure, no wonder why your sweet parrots loves being around you!
Thank you for sharing with us this valuable knowledge, I watch with utmost interest and enjoyment! 🧡
Aww thank you so much 🥹 im glad you enjoy my video ☺️
I’ve been studying birds for almost 2 years and when I move out I intend on getting a cockatiel, your videos are really informative! 💖💖
Aww im glad! keep up the studying 😊
Hey can you tell please can someone be a animal and a bird vet at the same time
@@tanishkabaranwal26 don’t quote me on this but I think you can be a vet that specializes in birds that also does other animals
I just brought my Quaker Parrot at home last night. He is an absolute cuddlebug. He was eating drinking snuggling day one. I've never seen a bird so comfortable around people he's never met.
Thats amazing!!!
I got a baby Quaker 3 days ago. I was searching for info on youtube and found your wonderful video! On the second day I was holding some millet and talking to her in her cage. She decided she was ready to jump out and did pretty good job of perching on my hand. She is still kind of clumsy. She gets so excited she shakes. I guess that’s why they are called Quakers. She is so sweet. I’m trying to make sure other family members hold her during the day at least for a few minutes. I am hoping this will help make her more social. I hope she continues to be sweet. It was worth it to me to pay a little extra to get a hand raised baby rather than a parent raised one. I am so happy with her. Thank you again for making the video. I was worried when I brought her home the first day and she didn’t eat. But now she loves her pellets and nibbles at the veggies I tried feeding her this morning!!
Ahh this makes me so happy to read 😊 !
I brought home two Quaker parrots on Monday. We had lost our 15 year old to vet error! So we have 2 babies at almost 8 months old and They never had human handling and they can’t even step up. They love hanging out with me and squawk when I leave the room. We are going to keep them clipped for the winter. I did teach one to kiss and then the next time the other jumped in. They don’t talk and they never want to be handled. I pick them up after several step up commands. You are lucky to have such a chatty bird. I can’t wait to get mine to sing and talk with me. Mine was very smart and said what he wanted! She was a free flyer and sat on the deck railing and she would fly to the blue berry bush pick one and back to the railing to eat it ! She even went to the nursing home with me and rode around on her favorite grandpa’s shoulder until bedtime and then grandpa finished his visits to all the residents and he then put her to bed and covered the cage I traveled with and picked her up after my shift and I brought her home and this was a daily routine. We all loved her. We waited a year to get a new quaker and had such a hard time getting one because of the pandemic. My husbands took me to Hampton beach in New Hampshire and I saw a Petco and checked online for a Quaker. Sure enough I called and their quarantine and vet exam was on the Tuesday so we fell in love with them and we went back and got them both! 🦜🦜😇siblings. Hatched January 15 and 16. I’m sorry I’m so chatty with excitement and I have questions for you. Will they mate if they are siblings and a male and female? One is fatter and not as friendly. I call them Frankie and Johnny! I can’t wait to get them sexed and start the potty training. I have already ordered the perch for a small table so they can poop there. I realize that they are behind because of the lack of contact with the people who had them. They also were parent fed and no human contact. Sad but I think maybe it had to do with COVID-19 during this year. Okay where do I start? They eat good seed and seed balls. We are crushing veggies and we are feeding them daily with fresh fruit as well. Any help with anything? Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi so I wouldnt recommend clipping them, this does not create trust it causes them to be insecure and untrusting. If you truly want to tame them and bond properly allow them to fly. Their diet should be pellets, fresh vegetables everyday, and seeds should only be used as treats. Since they are siblings i doubt they will reproduce as birds look for expanding their gene pool so their offspring are stronger, but because they are the only birds around each other, just in case during nesting season and when they hit puberty if they try to court each other just seperate them for the time being until the season passes.
Thank you… you don’t know how blessed you are to have Kiwi. Quakers are all love. They cling to you like their family. Prepare to just love them regardless of the mood they’re in..you’re theirs just as much as they’re yours. I had one who was 1 month old when I got him…a hurricane rescue. He passed away 29 years later. I will never replace him. He was a gift of love, forever.
I love my babies so much even with their mood swings. Im so sorry for your loss 🥺 Its so hard because its losing a family member. I lost my cockatiel so I understand your pain 🥺
that bird talking was too cool lol I absolutely loved it ❤ 😄 💕
He’s really cute 🥰
I just brung a parakeet home today, his name is Baxter and he is a baby. He is so, freaking. Adorable. But he is also extremely shy, but I expected that. ❤️❤️❤️ thanks for the video!

It's great raising birds from babies. They grow up to be like you lol
It is! But i also love rescuing and rehabing because the progress is beautiful
My baby flew away a week ago, and I'm going to see a Quaker today *It's 1am lol* I'm still getting over my grief for my baby boy but I'm so excited to get a Quaker, they're like my 3rd favorite breed *Cockatoo's and African Grays being my favorites* . I've grown up with birds and I have a lot of experience, but I still want to get up-to-date with bird keeping, so I'm watching videos at 1am when I have to get up in 4 hours to go see another feathery buddy. Your videos are really interesting, thank you!
Im so sorry for your loss, im happy your getting a quaker though! Best of luck
Oh my god Kiwi is just like my blue pallid Quaker Beau. I wish I had this video when I got him a few weeks ago
Awww 🥺 hope everything is going well though 🫶🏼 let me know if you need help with anything
I love ur videos, thanks 👍🙂
Thank you 🥰 and ahh i know im working on it 😅
I'm getting a three week old cockatiel this Sunday. My first bird was a sun conure, Mango. He was the sweetest bird ever, very cuddly and silly. Unfortunately, the worst thing happened. I was at my brother's house, and when I came back, my dad was sobbing (he also was bonded with my conure). I asked what happened, confused, bc I never saw him cry before. My mom told me that Mango has passed. I was beyond confused, because we treated the bird like gold. Spent hours every day with him, fed him fresh foods, buy him plenty of toys, we did everything to ensure his happiness. He didn't exhibit any health issues (but I learned that birds dont show signs of illness) and it all happened so fast. The story my parents told me was that he was sitting on the arm rest of my dad's chair, (which is usual) and randomly he just fell. He didnt flap his wings or even try to save his fall or help his landing. It was like he just given up. Note, the day before he was perfectly fine. BTW he was barely over 1 year old. This happened a couple days after Thanksgiving in 2018. I felt terrible trying to think what we did wrong, but we really thought we did right by the bird. We bought the bird from a specialized bird store, but there's always a possibility the bird could've had a disease we were unaware of. I won't let the same thing happen to the cockatiel, I will find a specialized bird vet in my area for check ups. Anyway, I'm very excited, I miss having a parrot. They're lovely companions.
Im so so sorry to hear that 😔 Kiwi, in this video passed recently. The vet said it was a fluke and it shouldnt have been possible for his death, so I understand that feeling of wha did I do wrong? I gave him the world. I still have my sun conure also name mango and my other quaker Luza, and im so so tentative of every tiny thing. I love having parrots as well, such special companions. I truly wish the best for your new tiel (i used to have a rescue tiel and they are honestly my favourite species). I wish you guys a long happy life. Please let me know if you need anything, any help or advice 🙏🏼
@mimisbirdhouse Thank you so much! I'm sorry as well. That really sucks.😔 Kiwi was such an adorable bird. Unfortunately, birds are so complicated, and detecting illnesses are so difficult. I hope the best for your other birds. I have a couple of questions since you mentioned you had a cockatiel. How would you compare it to your conure? Was it quieter? Did it enjoy being handled? Would it sing? The one I'm getting is a male and I heard they sing more than females.
@@pplicker4462 males to tend to be more vocal. Mine was a female. They are the quietest of parrots. Not to say they arnt loud but in comparison they are quiet 😂 they are sleepy birds, very mellowed down and kind in nature. They can be sassy but so gentle. Conures are cuddle addicts and much more hold me 24/7 but they are loud, destructive and way more messy. Especially a sun conure who is tied with cockatoos more loudest parrots 😂 Cockatiels do best with other cockatiels because they are so gentle and kind. Other combinations usually end up hurting or bullying the cockatiel
@mimisbirdhouse oh okay, sounds good to me. I'll appreciate the singing and not loud squawking, lol. Thanks for the info. :)
@@pplicker4462 you’ll def get squawking just a respectable volume 😂 (though only cockatiel owners say they are so loud to me its music to my ears 😂)
Love your video my quaker bird flew alway.
This vid answered all my question
I’m getting a pigeon in a few months and I’m SO excited
Aww a Pidgeon that's so cute! Wish you the best!
I had a budgie named Kiwi, he passed away on March 25th of 2017, but I do have 3 budgies, one is a lot younger than the other two, her name is Banana, and she’s still about maybe 5-6 months old
Im so sorry to hear about your loss. I fully understand your pain and no matter how much time past they are always in your heart. Aww banana is such a cute name!!
I have three budgies toooo
I've watched this video 3 times to watch Kiwi 😘
Baby Kiwi was so cute and innocent 😭
@@mimisbirdhouse thanks for the video btw!! We watched it on the first day we got our baby Quaker and this helped a lot
@@neeli8423 ahh im so happy ☺️
My Quaker parrot passed away recently... I had home for 4 years but it felt like I’ve had it forever..he was by myself all the time... coming home and seeing the spot where his cage used to be tears me up or where he layed on top of my closet doors while I slept ....enjoy everyday with yours.
Im so sorry to hear that. I completely understand how painful that is and can relate when our Cockatiel passed. The pain never really goes away but I'm glad you could give it a happy home and a good life while it lives and it was very grateful to you
Mimi Rose thank you so much
Nice dog
Thanks he is a special breed
I used to used to have a Quaker parrot about 4 years ago, but he passed away in 2020, had him for 13 years,,, I've been meaning to get another quaker, but I'm scared 😅 I wanna have more knowledge this time around, so this video was amazing!
Glad it helped ☺️
im gonna get a cockatiel in september and i needed info for what to expect the first day, and this was helpful!
Im so glad 🥰 Cockatiels are so so lovely
I came back to this video, because I brought the quaker to home today. He eat something, drank tiny bit of water, he is not scared of hands, but the whole day he was puffed up so I kinda freaked out that he might feel unwell - I was laughing at parents that are freaking out when they look at their babies for few first days, now I am like that ;) He is a little bit clumsy, he can climb and jump, but just have to know his new environment. He was actually very vocal for his first day, he was responding for my talking, he was screaming a little, not like hysterical scream, just normal. But I am still nervous since it is his first night at my house. I had young budgies before, but they are so different from quakers !!! Plus i never had hand fed bird before. Fun fact: Hunter the Quaker screamed at a cat that was walking near by :D
I have done alot of research personally I would say if you have the time just sit in the same room with the door to the cage open with some treats you and your bird can eat and let them make the move of course offer some in a bowl but just take your time your priority should be establishing that your not a threat and you are safe and giving food helps
Yes yes yes ☺️ !
I just got my 4 month old baby quaker is crazer because his hatch day is my older son bday
Whaaaaa you can celebrate together now 😂!
IM GETTING A COCKATIEL IN A FEW DAYS AND IM SO EXCITED MY PARENTS ARE GONNA LET ME GET A REALLY BIG CAGE FOR IT TO AND MY MOMS GONNA HELP ME CLEAN THE FIRST FEW TIMES UNTIL I GET THE HANG OF IT

Do you still have your cockatiel because I just got a 2 bugdies one is Lilly he’s white and the secound I need a name for him he’s blue green and yellow any names and also is your cockatiel still alive because I want to know if they live long
@@User_-jg9wy cockatiels and budgies are 2 different things but they live for about 10 years??? maybe do a bit of research before hand though
This video is very helpful for beginner bird owners! Thanks!🐦
I'm about to get a baby blue Quaker thank you for the tips
Awww how cute! Enjoy your little baby 🥰 keep in mind the puberty and nesting seasons at age 1 and after that age 🫶🏼
I had 2 baby parrots they are green cheek conures they both have totally different attitudes but I will say that both wanted to be petted an loved on and wanted to be with me pretty much since day one hand fed babies are way different than an older established bird
Oh for sure! Kiwis personality was way different when he was a baby then now when he is a teenager and I bet itll change when he is an adult 😝
I just got a new lovebird, and he’s just chilling hanging on the side of the cage, he hasn’t ate or drank water, but my other bird did communicate with him already. But this video helped because to be honest I was really worried.
Im glad ☺️
Im getting a yellow male parrotlet but actually want another male parrotlet but blue. Do you think I can keep them both in the same cage?
Can you make a videa on bring home a second brid or adding one the thw family. I brought home a 4 month old green quaker and my 3 year old blue quaker has been extremely mean to me attacking me instead of stepping up

It took my Quaker 3 days and a few hours at home from New York to Worcester-our home place and it took her that long to make a few small noises
Wow im surprised they would sell them in new york!
how old was kiwi when you got him? Im getting a 2 month old quaker parrot. i already have a 3 year old green cheek conure. i have a few questions, 1. How should i introduce them, i have read alot about how to do it, but i like hearing other peoples opions. 2. How many toys and perches should i put in his cage, and how far apart should they be. he will have a 30'' x 22'' x 63'' sized cage. 3. How well will his balance be? 4. what age will he start to try to fly. ---- thats all, hope you see this and answer my questions :)
kiwi was 4 months old which is usually the age a bird is fully weaned. Thats great mix though since quaker and conures pair really well together. Make sure they each have their own separate cage, food, space, and toys. You can let them out together but make sure you are constantly there to watch them. They will become curious and approach each other on their own. Just always watch over them so incase maybe they fight but hopefully they get along! Quakers are super bity so make sure to get a lot of toys that are for destroying and biting. They really love loopy ropes and love to climb more than fly. Have perches inside and outside the cage for them to exercise. His balance at first will be awful 😂 he will be super clutzy tripping over things and he may not even know how to climb properly. You gotta monitor babies like crazy! Cause they will fall over a lot. SO just be there to catch them and help them as they learn 😊 Kiwi started to try and fly at his 4 months old. He was really bad at it. Always landed on the ground. But he learnt super fast maybe like 2 weeks how to land properly. Again if they spontaneously take off just make sure you don't have anything they can get hurt with!
IM SO EXTITED TODAY I WENT TO THE PET STORE AND I WAS LOOOKIBG AT THE COCKATIELS OBVIOUSLY AND U PET STORE EMPLOYE ASKED ME IF I WANTED TO HOLD ONE AND MY MUM SAW ME WITH THE BIRD ON MY SHOULDER AND SAID I LOOKED CUTE WITH IT AND SHE SAID ILL THINK ABOUT GETTING THE BIRD OVERNIGHT AND MY MIND BLOWN IVE DONE LOTS OF ESSAYS AND POWERPOINTS ON WANTING ONE AND THATS ALL IT TOOK (ovcaurse she might say no but she might say yes!! And yes I have been doing research on cockatiels for almost a month now)

Today, I brought home a baby parakeet. Maybe 2 or 3 months. First 2 hours, quiet and standing still and by far scared me to much! 2 hours later, climbing and chirping. Eating and healthy. What do u think of him?
Aleksander Pedersen thats great news! Congrats on your baby. That means he got comfortable with you really fast!
Mimi Rose haha thank he is chilling with me in my online school ahaha
We just got a baby quaker we named him.maui he likes to squak and try to.escape lol!!! He constanly squaking at the hamster who is very loud in his hamster wheel lol
Wow congrats! He is trying to escape his cage or the house?
I may or may not get a baby Quaker tomorrow, I’m so exited!! Thanks for the video :DD
Best of luck 🥰
This is a great video!! I just rescued a parakeet last minute since he really needed a new home fast!! He’s chirping and playing with his toys and eating and drinking water already!! Hasn’t even been a day I’ve had him but he seems to be really comfortable with me already. He is quite puffed up his feathers I just wanted to know if that’s a good or bad thing?? But this video really was helpful!!
Thats an amazing thing! Thank you for rescuing them they seem to be very happy and comfortable with you :)
Thanks so much! This video was really helpful! Just a question, How many hours should I spend with my two birds daily?
Honestly I know alot of forums will say an hour but please dont listen to these. Birds need ALOT of attention. As much as you have available. At least 3-4 hours but even this is such a small amount. They as well need lots of time out of their cage to stretch, fly, exercise, and explore
Hi i. want to have a parrot what type do you recommend to have like playful and sweet ?
Except casco
All parrots can be playful and sweet depending how you raise them :) every parrot can have their own stereotype and personality traits ontop of being playful and sweet. for example, quakers are known to be moody and troll around, conures are cuddly but loud, caique's are hyper active, cockatiels are more sleepy, cockatiels, cockatoos and african greys have a lot of dander so its bad for asthma or allergies, etc. so it all depends on those extra traits you like and can handle :)
I GOT A QUACKER TOO HE BLUE
i have a question my husband has seen a quaker at the flea market loves to run to him so now hw is thinking of getting one or two male and female wouid there be a problem of both being together at first or wait till the first one gets use to us also we are young 70's please let me know Thank youi
Not at all you can get both for sure. This video will help a lot because it will cover absolutely everything to know; th-cam.com/video/6GR_xFnD1do/w-d-xo.html
Keep in mind quakers can live 20-30years. So with your age that is something to consider. If you choose to have them then I advice you accustom someone to them as well that can take them in if god forbid something were to happy (of course I wish you a long and prosperous life)
Im getting a Lutino Pearl cockatiel. Its 4 months old as of now and I'm gonna get my tiel in late July.
i love this vid! basically answered most of the questions i had. but i still have unanswered ones and I’d love it if anyone helps. So i got my new cockatiel bird yesterday and it is pretty scared and terrified but I understand why. I just wanna know when is the right moment or time to open thr cage and let it fly around the room or when is the right time to feed her from ur hand
You could honestly open the cage now. Keep them supervised incase they come out but they may just stay inside scared. If you keep it open they may slowly come out. Once they come out on their own and they arnt flying around then offer some food in your hand very gently towards them.
@@mimisbirdhouse they r scared to eat food from me even if i give them a millet. They are always scared when i try to feed them or even from the wooden stick, and they even wont eat it from outside the cage
@@fadiaalkhatib1303 thats okay! it can sometimes take time. IF they are scared of you then for now just let them get used to you and your voice. so hang around them and talk to them. once you feel they are more familiar and approach you a little bit then work on getting them used to your hand :)
@@mimisbirdhouse Thank you so much!! hopefully it works
@@mimisbirdhouse one more thing... about how many days/months/years will it take for the bird to get used to me and not be scared of my hands
I think it’s better to get a baby bird that is very young for bonding. I had a parrot that was only five weeks old and we gave it baby formula. They do not talk to begin with are very quiet. You have to feed them every 4 hours. They can not stand on a branch yet. I suggest a book on Quaker Parrot. Beautiful lovely birds that talk a lot. You can train them to speak. These birds need a lot of attention they get lonely. We had our bird for seventeen years.
I dont think age ever has anything to do with bonding. We have a rescue quaker who is 4 years old and she is more attached and bonded than my other two. My sun conure was formula fed had her since 2 months old, hates physical touch, prefers to be left alone. Its all personality based. Yes quakers are lovely birds but very difficult with their mood swings and difficult to read body language. While they CAN learn to talk it does not mean they will. My second quaker is bilingual, sings, talks everything and my other one says maybe 4 words at most
I got my Quaker parrot today just brought it home it was climbing around the cage but rn it’s sitting at the bottom of the cage not playing not on a perch not doing anything but staring at me so I have no idea what to do loll
I just got my Quaker he’s kinda scared but lets me pet him sometimes he’s 4 months old trying to teach him step up but he’s just really nervous what should I do
Your quaker is still very very new. Give him time to adjust to you and your surroundings before trying to teach him commands or tricks. For now just have him near by and chat with him, spend tons and tons of time with him ☺️
Do you know if you can put a untrained cockatiel in the same cage of a trained cockatiel at once?
always keep them in seperate cages unless they are bonded as mates
Just got a 2 month old quaker and he is acting like im going to kill him, i setup him inside a cage and put close to me but he is really scared and screaming :(
I know!! just like mine!!!!!!
@@SLKcarauS an update, i can touch him and everything but he dont like to much to stay around me like he is not yelling at all anymore but he dont like to be on my finger and he is trying to scape slowly ! :(
@@MomokaRage I don´t have one but I would try to take slow until he gets very used to you. You can also use special treats when he is with you, working as a incentive for him to spend time around you. (th-cam.com/video/Gsdupe1zPYQ/w-d-xo.html this bird owner talks a little about this in this video). Please, update and share the progress you get here :)
Momoka rage on the 3 day he started screaming. And then he stopped screaming and played whith his toys and the wood he was EATING it everytime we got him and toy and it was made of wood in 2 days he broke it
And something else yes my parrot when I tried to pet him he did slowly move and not let me touch him and sometimes he jumped on the side of the cage and when I left he came back to his stick but today he started likeing it and stays put
And also Slava Caraus is my dad I'm his daughter vladislava Caraus from Millbrook Junior School if you know me
@@SLKcarauSdo not put your personal information online!
got mine 2 days ago, he ate millet out of my hand already and doesn’t mind or gets scared when i change the food or water. it chatters real quietly and only chirped out loud 4-5 times so far. i think it’s also breathing heavy when i come around. at night i haven’t seen him sleep yet it’s 2:21 am while i’m typing this and hes still awake with me. i have a blanket over his cage aswell
Thats great that he ate and is chatting. The sleep is a concern. Are you making sure there is no sound like videos or music playing next to them, even if the blanket is over their cage you should turn the light off and leave the room they are in. They can sense when you are around and will be on alert. Try leaving the room they may sleep through the night then. It could also be that they are awake because its a new place and they dont feel secure enough to sleep and let their guard down. Make sure their cage is in a high place
@@mimisbirdhouse yes the cage is higher then me when i stand up it’s eye level with me. there are hardly barely sounds. he was up with me until 3am making squeaking noises almost like a mouse. he hasn’t been chirping too. but i did call the vet and they told me it could be that he isn’t used to the environment yet so give him 2-3 more days then bring him in if it continues.
@@MoneyMakerrr yes what the vet said sounds about right. Not much more advice I can give but I do hope it resolves and he gets comfortable ☺️
@@mimisbirdhouse thank you for responding, and also 1 more question how should the sleep routine be? what time should i put him “in bed” and how should i do it ?? should i use blankets? should i put him in a room by his self? etc
@@MoneyMakerrr i find that 8am-8pm or 9am-9pm are good times. Though they usually follow the sunset and sunrise, a ratio of 12:12 is a safe bet until you learn their sleeping habits and schedule. I usually just turn the lights off where they sleep but its a good idea to cover the cage with a blanket to keep them warm and keep any light from waking them ☺️
i really wanted a monk parakeet. Jay Idea of where I can get them in Memphis Tennesee?
Check their legality in the stares first. I dont live in the us but if they are legal then check adoption centres. Theres always quakers being rehomed
I had 13 budgies and boy oh boy they were a jealous bunch to the point where they were fighting over my finger oh the pain 😭😭
13!!! Oh my goodness I can only imagine the jealousy!
I brought 2 days ago my 4 month old female cockatiel. She sits nicely on my hand and she is preening as well on me. She just bites me for no reason. I hope that will change any advise?
Still learning to trust you. Respect her space, make slow movements and speak softly :)
@@mimisbirdhouse okayy thank youu
I can't tell if you're white, latina, or both!!! I want a pacific parrotlet as my first pet, but i keep reading that they're aggressive. Is that a bad trait or does that mean they'll interact/be social with me more?
my parrotlets used to be very cage aggressive, but eventually grew out of it as he began to trust me more. it’s a common parrotlets trait but doesn’t mean they love you any more or less. be patient with them, they are very much worth it :)
oh ahaha im latina im from Colombia! Im european and indegineous mix which is basically what a latina is xD
I used to have one, she was a rescue, they are really sweet birds. A little hard to tame since they are small they are scared of your big hands but overall kind at least the one I had. The male I had was a little demon, but again a rescue
@@mimisbirdhouse i kneeeeew it hahahhaha do you know what your mix is? Like what countries your ancestors came from.
Was your bird a hassle and wouldn't be tamed? I'm 26 but never had a pet before, so I wanna start with a parrotlet. Did he eventually become a friendly, interactive bird? Also I thought you lived in cali usa since you have the same accent as me hahah
@@cephalonrolli5678 My parrotlet was older since she was a rescue. It was really hard to tame her but none the less she was a gentle sweetheart who loved company. Itll be much easier with a baby to tame. The most before her passing I was able to achieve is her snuggling against my chest. But honestly rescue birds are a whole other level of taming for obvious reasons. Theres plenty of people and videos who have fully tamed parrotlets who are snuggly, love scratchies, and love attention ☺️
And really? Ive never been told I have that accent ahaha I live in Canada but people say I have a slight spanish accent i dont know 😂
@@mimisbirdhouse ooohhhh it was harder for you bcz she didn't have you from the beginning. I mean snuggling and cuddling and loving company is already great right? What would the next step be? I'm sorry to hear about her passing:/
No way I would've have never guessed Canada! From this video, you sound like you have the standard usa accent XD How often do people guess wrong or right about you?
I got a hand fed 2 month old pearl cockatiel and tho I just brought it 5 day ago I had to bring him back to the bird store where they are going to get him back to weight he was very verbal very comfortable he flew a bit ate each day after the first day and a half and wanted to be out stepped straight onto my hand to so I allowed my bird to just hang with me
Usually its not professional to sell an unweaned bird to someone who doesnt have experience in it. Formula feeding is not easy! Though im glad they are willing to take him back and continue to raise him.
Usually cockatiels are fully weaned and ready to go to homes at 4 months old. Is he still going to be your bird though? After they raise him a bit more?
Kiwi is so si adorable!! I am so insecure in getting a Quaker parrot! I mean, I want one so bad but I work from 8am to 5pm and don’t know if I should get him. They are adorable but I’ve also read that when they “reach puberty” they get kinda hormonal and I really don’t know if to take the plunge :(
They get crazy hormonal. Even after puberty they dont go back to sweet babies. You still deal with moody angst bird. They are also really attention needy and require someone who can be home majority of the day.
@@mimisbirdhouse yess thats exactly what I thought… thank you so much 🙏
I got two new budgies a day ago and one of them, whenever I go near them to clean their food and water bowl and refill it, will begin to breath heavily and the other will go up to it and start ‘kissing’ it/comforting it. Is this normal or should I be concerned and take it to an aviary vet?
Heavy breathing or more like hissing?
@@mimisbirdhouse heavy breathing
@@happyinterruption6253 do they only breath heavily when you get near? It may just be them panicking. But if you see they are breathing heavily while they are resting and doing nothing and nothing is stimulating them then yes I would worry
@@mimisbirdhouse Ah I never thought that they might just be panicking. Super sorry for the confusion 🙃
@@happyinterruption6253 its okay dont worry about it!
This was a great video! My Quaker baby comes home about July. I worry where it’s cage is, my husband works nights so I feel the living room is always active. Will this be ok? Will it be able to sleep? What does the tent you got look like?maybe that would be a good idea for it, to be able to sleep? Thank you!
Yes the living room would be good! If you guys still need to work in there while your quaker is trying to sleep then just put a cover over the cage (any dark blanket that blocks out the light will work) i dont recommend the tent i have (i got rid of it) as it is known as a death hut because there are many cases where parrots have ingested loose fibres from there, it got caught in their stomach and obstructed their digestion and needed surgery or died 😔
Thank you so much.
Yes I’ve been reading about the huts, I’ve joined some Quaker FB pages and so many opinions! I have budgies so I know this type of thing is a big no no but have seen so many people post how much their bird loves to sleep in it. I don’t want to make him/her hormonal either! Thank you again for your advice!
@@Bruce-bx1sj i have a video about nesting boxes if you’d like to see on my channel, Thats a more grey subject. But those fuzzy huts are definitely a bit no, doesnt matter if your bird likes to sleep in it there are other similar safer products out there
i brought home a cockatiel about 4 days ago, but i feel like it’s taking over my life. i’m getting many panic attacks because it’s a big responsibility. i feel like i should return it, but i also love him so much. what should i do? please respond i don’t know what to do i keep panicking. all he wants to do it be with me and be on my shoulder. he’s really quiet too though. anyway, what should i do?
keiraxoxo5 oh man I felt this the first time I brought Tilia my cockatiel home. I was so excited but at the same time I felt like wow am I ready for this and I had similar thoughts too. But I loved her more than anything. And those responsibilities soon became routine and just part of my lifestyle. Yes having a bird is alot of work but they are like a best friend too. And i still had my days where I felt like was this the right thing but im glad I had her. It helps that cockatiels are pretty easy birds to maintain and own ☺️
Hi! I also recently brought home a baby quaker. Did you have problems with him biting? Mine loves to chew so seems to think that my fingers are something to chew. Do you have any advice?
For sure! Baby parrots love to chew on everything. This starts to subside around a year old. Get them lots of chew toys for birds, things they can destroy that are safe for them. Even a cuttle bone is great to chew and grind their beak., Other than that it's just waiting it out.

hi! i just bought 2 budgies and they were really quite and i understand that this is new to them but do i just let them be like that and give them space?
Does this video apply to budgies?
Of course! Any birdie 😊
I am thinking to bring a tame cockatiel so should I keep it in the cage or because it is tame so I should take it out?
If its tamed it will still be shy but easier to handle. Kiwi was tamed too and I gave him a little space but immediately started bonding. He stuck very close to me.

I know it's 2020:( . I just bought a 2-month-old agapornis parrot from a breeder. I brought him home, I put water, food, a swing and a mineral block ... anyway, he just put on the swing and just sits there, he doesn't eat, he doesn't drink water, nothing, please help, he didn't eat anything about a day, it’s the first day he’s brought home, is that why? I tried to put my hand lightly in his cage very slowly without sudden movements, but he is very scared and moves away from me or flies. I also tried with a light stick, but it doesn't work, do I have to wait a few more days to keep it in the cage until it gets used to and after I try? Plss help :((
Thats how my bird is, I just got him today. Just be very slow (like you are) with him and try every so often. thats what ive been doing :)
It’s been a month can u update us
Brqni yepp, so this is the update. The next few days after I left the first comment it was the same, it bit me and it was quite aggressive, but I left it for 3 more days and I decided to let it go in the room, the first time I let it it flew in all directions and found his favorite place, the bulapul. Ever since I let him see the change, little by little, we try to take seeds in my palm and give them and point the finger at him and he was no longer aggressive, he was just so scared
Brqni so I took it easy with him, I bought him twigs of millet because I read on the internet that it works better and that's how it was, he likes it very, very much. To continue, I let him out and I still leave him, from that day he is free, he flies as much as he wants and enters and leaves the cage when he wants, in the evening he sometimes sleeps outside sometimes inside, but he likes to sleep outside more. Slowly when I was at the computer after 4 days in which I kept him free he started to explore, he comes to me on the monitor after the salt on the desk on the keyboard and so on. I put the twig with my on the table and he would come and eat at my desk. 3 days ago it was the first time he put it on my head although he is still afraid of my hand, but not so bad, he suddenly flew on my head and since then it always comes on my head
Brqni About two days ago I made the most progress, I put the twig of millet on the table and when it came to eat I pulled it lightly and put my hand on the edge of the desk and pulled the twig for him to approach, at first he was afraid to put only one leg, I did so a few times, and then I removed the twig even more and it was put with both feet on my toe and I practiced like this every day, the first time I thought I would stay at this stage, but they really started to see progress, already now in two days when I take the twig to the edge of the table he doesn't even think or look he climbs directly without fear on my finger and all this was sitting on my finger and I pulled the twig slightly towards the shoulder and climbed and he, because I want to teach him to sit on my shoulder, but in 3 days if I practice I think I will succeed, I hope this comment helped you, I will make another update in a week to tell you how It is❤️
Hey, does anyone know something about Alexder parrot? (about first days in new home). I want to know what to expect.
Thank you❤️
And do you have to leave his cage open or no.?
Hi my videos are made in general for any parrot so this video would apply for your parrot too ☺️ if you want to leave the cage open make sure that the space is safe for them incase they panic and that you are there monitoring them. Sometimes they dont want to leave the cage and other times they get overexcited and run out and try and fly around without knowinng the space well enough
gurl- your so underrated wth are your subs
ahah thank you 😂
I got a Cockatiel its name is Max he is so noise and he is a hand takes bird
I just brought my cockatiel today and the bird was super excited to play and explore the house the first hour! when i put it in the cage, it just keeps screeming for me to let it out. What do I do, should I let it out! Also the bird wont eat or drink water but is super pumped
Brainl3ss Pr0ducti0ns wow that’s great your bird is super curious! As long as u can supervise the bird let the. Out. Personally I don’t lock my birds in their cage and let them explore and get their energy out. Eventually they will calm down and just chill. First day they may not wanna drink or eat but it’s concerning if this goes on the next day as birds cannot last too long without food or water as they metabolize things much faster.
Mimi Rose What should I do if my bird does not start eating, I’ve seen it like try to eat off my hand but it would just nibble or crunch the food and crumbs will drop onto the ground.
Brainl3ss Pr0ducti0ns try hand feeding it then! Grab a few pellets or seeds in your hand and let it eat with you. Many birds are very social to the point where they want to eat with you.
Mimi Rose yeah I already tried that but it just didn’t seem to care for it at all!
Brainl3ss Pr0ducti0ns is it still very hyper and curious? How many days has it been?
ok help, the breeder I get my cockatiels from in 2 months are now only 14 days old. So they'll be nearly 3 months old. What to do?
Thats weird since birds are normally fully weaned by 4 months. If you get them at 3 its possible you will have to formula feed them for a month. I would talk to the breeder it seems to me like he is trying to just get rid of them quickly but I could be wrong. Just in case you should do some research on formula feeding baby birds 😊
I have a bird name kiwi like that
Awww kiwi gang 🥰

I really want a bird but they seem so Hard to handle so ill prob just wait untill im ready
Hi three days ago my sister bought a blue masked love bird, just one, her name is Blue. It makes me worry that she doesn’t eat. Is there anyway to fix this?
Take them to the vet it could be an illness
@@mimisbirdhouse don’t worry she is fine! She’s eat quality food and plays with her sister, Star the dog. *Will bites her*😂😎
I saw a video on live laugh bird she said that tents are dangerous for birds they can get caught in them or Chew them n get choked by the strings
Lejo 200 It depends on the tents. My Quaker never bites the tent and honestly didn’t even like it so I removed it. If you do see your bird chewing at it then I’d remove it.
Mimi Rose k thanks 🙏🏻
My parrot made sound in 1 day but im scared to put my hand well im not but my sister wont let me
Dont force your hand or try and grab them. Build trust first. Let them be comfortable with you and your voice. It can be very overwhelming for your bird with new environment and people
