Can a Budgie Be Tamed in One Day?

- Oftentimes, videos on taming a training budgies show a series of clips that were shot over an extended period of time. Because of that, it's hard to really understand how long it takes to tame a bird and get it used to stepping up. In this video, you'll see a series of clips shot during one afternoon of working with two parakeets that are in the same cage together (with a cockatiel). Although all birds are different and some may respond more quickly or slowly than Skyy and Sango, the video can give you a good idea of what you might be able to accomplish in one afternoon of working on taming and a step up!

Thank you for all your advice. I just got our budgie a few days ago and I think I'm seeing some improvements. I'll keep working on her.
Great job!
I think a lot of birds can be tamed quickly, if u work with them as soon as u get them.
This is true. Thanks for watching!
What if you've had them for like 1-2 years without training them? Ik I'm probably a terrible owner but I wanna be better
@@mango..99 you can still change your relationship with them. Just start from the beginning with taming and work slowly!
I just go parakeets bluebell and iris hope this works and I am in love with your cockatiel😍😍😍🦜🦜🦜
I trained four parakeets in one hour of bringing them home. Having a trained parakeet makes it very fast to train other parakeets. My first parakeet took two days to train and next four within an hour.
Birds might be actually tamed in 1 day! I got a new budgie yesterday (now i have 8) i did a simple solution and placed my finger in the cage, and slowly got a little closer, after a few minutes. She started climbing on my finger. Words cannot explain how happy i was :) she really likes playing and backflipping, and shes half tamed now so whenever i put my finger near her she eithers flies away and comes back or just stay and hope on the finger

But can you plz tell me what is the gray and white bird that is larger in size
Skyy... is... ADORABLE!
Thank you so much! I've had my budgies twovyeats and got them pretty much together so it was so hard trying. But by using millet I was able to get them both to stand on my hand separately which is huge!!
Yea
How did you do that? I have been trying for a month, they eat millet out of my hand but won’t get on it..
@@paulgiorgis2435my budgies unfortunately passed away about 2 years ago but I remember I put my hand with millet next to there perch so they were enticed to stand off and I slowly increased the distance between my hand and the perch

I got a yellow female yesterday from a breeder and I tamed her in half a day! It’s my second day owning her and she loves to cruise around on my shoulders arms and hands she doesn’t have her wings clipped either !
You can tame a budgie in one day to some degree... but you can't fully tame a budgie in one day. It's a slow, ongoing progress
Thanks for the comment!
I think so....this is not possible in 1 day
it's possible
No animal is the same nor has same experiences. Expect something is never a positive thing so I rather wouldnt advice people to say it can be done in a day. I rather give it atleast a week to give more respect towards the birx since when people expect something they lose respect for that animal.
I just got mine today and he already steps up and isn’t scared of my hand, very surprised.
Wow lucky it might be cause some are tamed from. The pet store but still thats pretty cool
@@harjaapplayz5630 yea it was surprising cause I got him from petco but now he’s completely tame after 5 months!

hey , i have a question , is normal to your budgie do something like eathing from that white rock ? (at 2:33 in ur vudeo is seeing that rock )

more tame.
Thank you, and awesome!!
I have another more lengthy taming video on my channel that might help!
I would just take it slow with him! One time I had a budgie that was terrified of me, and I just left him alone for two weeks (still taking care of him) and when I went back to taming him it only took two days and he would hop on my finger!

Whats crazy is I have the exact birds as you. 2 parakeets and a cockatiel and they have exact identical coloring and markings as yours does. My cockatiel doesn't have a gray beak though.
I've got two angels... I've had one since she was about 2 months old and I've got her from one event quite believing food out of her hand usually takes
But my second wife is from a pet store, and she doesn't trust me at all, I'm trying to show her that I'm not going to do anything to her. But it's not always cast or it's going to run away. I don't know what to do, please advise 🥺
It may take a little while for you to build trust with a bird that is from a pet store, as they're a little older and rarely hand-raised. You'll just have to start with bonding exercises, like hand-feeding, particularly at times when your bird is most hungry. I have taming videos on this channel that might give you a more in-depth idea what I'm talking about 😊.

I got a baby parakeet and likes my hand and isn't scared anymore but how do I get him to step up and out of the cage because he wont take any food from me
Feed him with hand inside cage first.
My little guy absolutely refuses to step up. He doesn't mind my hand in the cage, will eat millet spray, and will eat from my hands no problem. He even let's me pet him. But he will not willingly step up. According to resources I figure he's probably about 3 months. He doesn't even really fly. I'm continuing to work with him alot through the day but any helpful advice to get him to grasp the concept of stepping up would be much appreciated 🙏🏼 anything I may be doing wrong or could do differently?

Hi I just got my Buddy's today and I names two cookie and fluffy so I watched this video and I need a little help because I got those blue birds that are the bird in the vid but I know the name its just I don't know how you spell im the daughter who is writing this
@@ParrotPerch I love you channle
what are you feed them . my parakeet is itching himself very much . can you please tell me what can i do
I feed my birds a variety of foods....seeds, fresh fruits/vegetables and pellets. I have not heard a lot about parrot food allergies (although I am sure they exist). Birds do get mites however, so it might be helpful to check your bird for external parasites. If this is not the issue, then partnering with a veterinarian can help you find a useful solution!
i would do it but im scared that they'll fly out while I'm trying. have any tips for not being scared?

I have had two budgies for about 3 months and they still are not tamed and just today I got another budgie and it was already tame like it came from the store and it perched on my finger and on my shoulder
My parakeets hates me so much when I try to pick her up she jumps to the bottom of the cage 😔
Idk if it is good or not but i think that it would be good if you put her in a small cage bc if there isn't a lot of space it is easier to tame a bird.
Is this normal: I didn’t tame my bird, but it GOES ONTO MY FINGER when I try feeding it gets creeped out and my other bird, doesn’t sit on a pencil but sits on food-
what do i do if my budgie is not good motivated
my birds names a Skylar and Kiwi they are both male, and they are still quite scared of me, they do eat millet spray from my hands but they do fall of their perches/toys a lot..
hey i really need help i got to budgies male and female and they have lived in shit conditions maybe 40 budgies in one cage small one and no toys no nothing and they dont know how to play with toys and when ever i put my hand in the cage they freak out and fly all over and they are scared a lotttt every time before they saw hand was to grab them to anther cage or smtihng of that sort and i dont think they ever saw millets how could i tame them ? if they dont know what millet is ? thats my observation?
Oh man, that was a sad start for your birds. I am glad you rescued them from that situation! Have you tried just leaving millet sprays in their cage for them to explore without having to get stressed? If they are eating seed (pellets), you might even try to leave a few pieces of millet spray in their food bowl as well (chances are, their seed mix contains at least some millet as well, so they should be somewhat familiar). Then you can work on building a trust bond with them by just spending time near them or interacting through the cage....just so they understand your presence isn't going to mean chaos for them. Once they get comfortable (and this could take quite a bit of time), you can start trying to feed them in the cage or from the door....whatever they will calmly tolerate. Again, this will probably take a good bit of time for you, since they have been "trained" to expect bad things when there is a human present. Patience and consistency will surely pay off for you. Just keep at it!
@@ParrotPerch thankkkk you soo much for the tips i have thought of them but they reasured me

Mines did not tolerate me even near their cage for the first week. They’re in their 3rd week and today they did eat millet spray that I was holding and one even stepped on my finger (with one leg) for balance. It was so hard to contain my happiness. But they seem to understand that we’re not going to hurt them and that we’re friends. Im hoping one of them steps up by the end of the week 🤞🏽
So is it easy to tame? I might be getting a new bird soon and i’m worried he/she will never like me
Edit: I got my bird and I already tamed it in the day. It was a green cheek conure and it already likes going on my hand, it climbs onto my shoulder a lot.

Yes. Watch my newest video (budgie step up in one day) as it may help with your approach. Also, as shown in that video, try starting to hand feed your bird a food/treat that it really likes. This helps build a positive association between you/your hand and something good!

Hallo , i have a question please , my budgies allows me to itching him sometimes and sometimes he runs away , I just wonder if he trusts me or not ?
It sounds like your relationship is good with your bird if he allows you to pet him sometimes. This could be situational, though, as could the instance where he is trying to get away. Is it your bird's first choice to allow you to pet it, or does it try to get away first and then eventually give in?

i'm very interested in getting a budgie, your videos really give me tips on how to take care of one!, and i wanna ask how long should you research before getting one? i've only researched for 12 days
That's a pretty tough question to answer. It really depends on how much you're researching each day. Anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month if you're really putting a lot of time into it.
Hey I just got two budgies I've had them for about 8 hours but they still haven't made any noise should I be worried about this?
No, not at all! I recently got my budgies too, and the first day, they preferred to stay in a corner and keep quiet. It will take some time, but after a day or two, a way to get them talking is by playing more budgie sounds. Eventually they'll become playful and happy. Lots of time and patience :> Stay safe, and I hope your budgies do too!
@@izzybluebell8399 oh thank you so much I was worried there was a problem with them and I'm so relieved when you said this 👍👍😁😁
@@SteppyBro no problem! Of course tho, if they are still quiet for a very long time, then you may want to get them checked. Like, a month of them being quiet or so. I'm not a professional, but that's most likely when you should be concerned.

Sometimes it just takes a little bit longer. I would definitely use the least intrusive method, meaning to keep things pretty calm and quiet if they're very nervous. And perhaps starting to work with them outside of the cage instead of too close to them might be helpful.

I tamed 4 budgies in less than 5 hours. It's not hard to do. The one I started with was so tamed I put him on my 4-year-old daughter's shoulder, and he started playing with her earring and hair. Now they are all over the floor playing with her toys and all.
I have some budgies that are older, but were never tamed. Do you think if I start doing this they'll be tamed? Any tips would be super helpful
I think you can certainly start working on painting them this way. It may take you a little bit longer with them. I do have a more in-depth video on taming and getting your bird to step up. That might be helpful.
I’ve left my bird two months for him to get used to me. I hand feed him now
It’s been slow going with our American parakeet. We’ve had him four weeks and he’s about four months old now. It’s clear he’s had zero human contact - he still doesn’t tolerate our hands near him, but we’ll keep working on him.

Hi Kelly, thanks for the comment! I am glad to hear that you will keep trying with your bird. Sometimes, persistence and patience are the keys! I got all of my budgies from Petco or Petsmart. @@OkOk-ts4ep now ?
To tame a bird, first you can’t at all be scared of the bird or it’s bite, I have a ring neck parrot that I tamed in less than a month and he would bite terribly so I’ll give everyone some tips.
First, put food in your hand and feed your parrot with your hand constantly
Second, open the birds cage and simply let it fly where it wants in the room. (It should stay on the top of the cage) and of course make sure the room is safe and all doors and windows are closed
Third, leave food near the bird and allow it to eat it freely
Fourth, slowly practice putting your finger near the bird while it is in the cage. Taming birds is a long process but there are no trainable birds, only untrained humans.
