      Fernando Leite he has specific spots where he actually lands. He does poop wherever he lands but it’s really easy to clean up. Their poop isn’t messy like bigger birds. You can just vacuum it up,

      You can train your budgie to not poop on carpets or furniture. Besides, it's actually very easy to clean up- just wipe it or when it dries you can flick it off.

    I have found it easier to get the bird to eat spray millet from your hand rather than seed. Also, I like to get the bird out of the cage before I try to get them to step up. I will usually just open the door to the cage and wait the bird out. It also helps to leave the room for a little bit and I’ll just find the bird on top of the cage. If none of that works I’ll either lure them out with a treat, or this isn’t an option for most people but I’ll bring another bird in the room that will want to fly around because usually if one bird flies the other one will too. Once the bird is on top of the cage it’s easier to get them to step on your hand and they won’t get territorial. The bird will also find it rewarding if you put them in the cage because they’ll associate your hand with the security of the cage.

    Nice video, thanks for sharing. He is a really pretty bird and you keep his cage nice and clean, I'm going to try this with my budgies. I have 2 young untamed budgies and a tame cockatiel baby, but one of my budgies is being aggressive to the cockatiel, so I'm going to put him in a separate cage next to my desk and try to tame him, because the other two are getting along pretty well :)

    Hello there! Thank you so much for sharing the tips. I have had 2 budgies for about 5 and half years. I tried so many steps to gain their trust and get them out of the cage , so that they could get a little exercise. None of the tricks worked. I never forced them out of the cage since they were both very nervous around humans and I didn't want to injure them by forcing them out.
    One of the parakeets (female) died 2 days ago and the male is feeling very lonely and nervous. I am trying to spend a lot of time with him by talking to him and putting my hand inside the cage. He just looks around when I talk to him and blinks his eye for a long time. But when I put my hand in the cage and leave it , he kind of tries to escape and stay in a corner. I really want to gain his trust and be able to get him out of the cage. I work 3 days a week , so I am planning on getting a new budgie to replace the female so that the male would have company when I am not home. Can I train these 2 together ? Does an old budgie and a new one get along with each other? Please advise .

      Alestie Barragan I highly suggest a hand raised baby for the best experience for both you and the baby :) I rescued a 3+ year old budgie and it has taken 5 months for her to just be okay with my presence. I love my Aditi very much and love watching her progress into the confident, loving, playful little bird I know she can be, but rescues are not for everyone and hand raised babies are genuinely easier than broken birds for first time owners. :)

My male budgie is already eating food on my hand and stepped on my finger after just a week, but the female one is still super scared of me and the problem is they are so close with each other that the male budgie wouldn't want to go half a meter away from the female one and would start getting scared of me again after seeing her scared. So now I'm trying to win the trust of my female budgie more, it takes more patience but they love each other so much I can't bare to separate them!

      Firebolt AK I would continue to hold the millet in your hand inside the cage so they can get more used to your hand. If there are other foods they like, feed the bird with your hand so that it associates your hand with good things. This works for me. It does take patience but good luck! I'm glad my steps helped you! He will definitely get used to your hand as long as you don't force him or move too fast through the steps.

      Firebolt AK my bird loves spinach and lettuce but I had to gradually introduce that too him. Millet was what he really liked in the beginning. Good luck! If your bird is new, maybe he is just not eating it around you. When I first got my bird, I thought he wasn’t drinking water or eating, but I noticed, he was just not doing it around me.

    My budgies only seems to be interested in me when I have food. I taught them Step Up, but they only listen when they want to and they don't really seem to enjoy my company without millet. When I take Butterscotch out, she just keeps on nibbling at the millet in my hand and then if she gets bored, she flies back on top of her cage. I guess they trust me enough to step on my hand but they don't actually seem to like me. Any tips on how to really *bond* with them?

    Hello,
    I am the owner of 2 budgies but they are pretty young so we cannot determine their gender yet. We got an albino budgie first and it was always scared but we put our hands next to the cage, but to no success did it start to trust us. Then we got a green and yellow budgie and attempted the same thing. It worked a bit, and then one day we tried to feed it millet and both of the budgies ate! We had believed that they had both started to trust us, and I started to stroke them slowly and gently. I did as you said, and gently pushed on the budgies stomach, and did that for roughly 2 weeks. I'm asking for help because I am clueless as to what to do next because I take care of them well, I change their food and water everyday, try and clean them 4 times a week, and I try and stay as patient as possible but, nothing is working!
    I am scared that they'll slowly grow up and never have the experience of getting outside of their cage, or never gain a bond with me. Please help me.

    • @spiveyc4404
      @spiveyc4404 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vivian Liu let them come out and go in their cage on their own for a few hours so they can explore. Then when you take them out it won't be as scary for them. Also, get one to perch on your finger and return back to the perch they were on. Eventually you can move them from perch to perch. Only after the are comfortable with that can you take them out of the cage by hand. Once you can take them out by hand, close the cage door until you put them back in by hand so they rely on you to get to the place where they are comfortable.

    I have had my budgie for over 2 months now. I was very gradual in introducing myself to him. I have gradually put him beside me when I work so he is with me all day. I took the cover off of his cage and have perches on the outside as well as the inside. He will sit close to me a bit but he is still very afraid of my hands. In the past two weeks, I manage to stroke his claws and chest but he will not get on my finger. He will not eat anything I offer him. He is still very nervous when I touch him. His wings are clipped so I have ladders set up around the room so he can get up on things. He doesn't go where I am. I am beginning to wonder if some budgies are not trainable? Any ideas?

    We found our budgie on our backdoor step over a month ago. I caught him and kept him in a real small cage until I bought another. (after checking with neighbours if they owned him). He is pure white and looks small. His feathers are always sleek. He has a blue cere so I am assuming he is a boy. He does crazy things and loves it when I call him crazy boy. He doesn't like my hand in the cage although I put it in there and don't move it. He is gradually getting used to it.. I would've thought that he would be used to me by now. I have never hurt him and are careful not to force him, but I desparately want him to sit on my finger and be tame. How can I do this?

    Hey,your bird is incredibly cute!I will definitely try your methods.I do have one question which isn’t really related to budgie taming, but I was wondering if cat toys (little balls,specifically) that are unused and newly bought from the store are safe for budgies to play with?For example if I stuffed treats into a ball with gaps in it,would it be safe for me to give it to my bird?

    • @OdaraCreations19
      @OdaraCreations19  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      • Millie • I really am not sure. I am careful that whatever I put inside the birds cage won’t have any harmful chemicals since they bite and chew a lot. I usually stick to toys specifically for birds just because I do not know all that is poisonous to budgies. But I think it’s a great idea to make a toy for him like you are doing.
