The sigh at 3:27 sums it all up, thanks for speaking on behalf of the people, the way these companies act like they’re entitled to more and more of their fans’ money with every new release is ridiculous and honestly just disrespectful

Thanks man. I'm just so sick of them behaving in the most evil way possible.

The more I hear of D&D 5 and later, the more convinced I'm that I made a wise choice by sticking to older editions that are no longer being "modified" or "improved."

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that keep somehow making their product worse. They keep finding new and creative ways to ruin it so I'll give them credit for that.

It is probably not so much the Portuguese translations as printing. Creating, transporting, storing, and selling physical books all have up-front costs. I am guessing they were not making enough at that they considered the cost of operations worth the returns.
Wouls be great if they continued digital translations, though, since the costs of that are comparatively miniscule.

Oh they definitely would not making enough money physically but that's why I was shocked that they were not moving into a digital only platform with maybe a print on demand for the physical

Im getting tired of these types of videos where its clear the person doesn't understand the 5e ecosystem. Things like harping on the fact that buying a item on dnd beyond isn't a pdf and is actually on the site or complaining omg look at all these trinkets they added to the bundle for free like the backgrounds and dice demonstrate a disingenuous or ignorant understanding of the platform and the goals involved. Dndbeyond is doesn't do pdf because the books are integrated into their character builder. Also lets be real here the reason they don't do pdf is to mitigate piracy a rampant issue in the digital ttrpg space. Buying the books comes with the additional functionality of their ecosystem. Things like the digital assets are free additions to the bundle. Sweeteners that nobody really cares about but provided for free to the already existing price aren't a huge deal. As you say they exists just for you there is no advantage or benefit to the items other than they are free and pretty with the bundle. Not to mention calling the dnd beyond a virtual tabletop. Its a character builder
I also find the hatred for preorders so bizarre. Books constantly do preorders. The company benefits as they get a better idea of the distribution needed at launch and the customer benefits from buying the thing they were gonna buy at a reduced cost or with additional benefits. Its a mutual benefit. Not to mention they actively encourage buying from LGS stores by providing a better form of the book only available at in person stores.
The books are almost certainly staggered for two reasons one is to stagger the impact on the customer wallets. 60 dollars vs 180 dollars upfront is a considerable impact on a persons budget at any given time. The second is development and distribution allowing them to focus more heavily on each individual release. Its also not like the game is unplayable without all three. You can 100% play dnd with only the players handbook and while the dmg and MM are nice existing material is easily accessible. This isn't a new edition it is a rewrite of the core rules and compatible with the other material so any of that can be used in the mean time. I do think theres a valid argument that for new players the lack of a dmg at release is a misstep but i think that's complety different argument than the one made here. The books are clearly marked as a staggered release this isn't trying to be deceptive.
Dnd beyond acess tiers make sense one is for players and one is for DM's . The first essentially simplifies down to one can make unlimited characters and the other simplifies down to unlimited characters and can share content for a campaign. They could make that all one category but it would almost certainly be the more expensive one since that one essentially provides all the functionality of the books for free to the players in the campaign. The simpler "hero" tier provides a cheaper alternative and it should be noted that dndbeyond is incredibly easy as a non gm to use free. If your in a campaign just like in tabletop physical the gm carries most of the financial burden and the others have a low cost of play.
None of the cosmetics or these practices are new. they aren't trying to make more money. they have been doing presales and the little cosmetic additions and the tiers long before the ogl controversy .
Also becuase it bugs me the case with the AI stuff was the commissioned artist using AI not the company. They have positions for AI but its for use in videogames not in the ttrpg design or art teams.
Im not familiar with the wizkids drama but i can't be alone in thinking the model looks basically the same as the art in the adjacent image like its not that different.
As for the brazil stuff its not merely the translation stuff. They took over control of the publishing side in the market from a local branch they commision. Theres a whole debate about whether they should have done that but kinda irrelevant to the decision to stop ( although you can make an argument if they didn't make this decision helped pave the way, but that a whole can of worms i do not have enough information to litigate right in wrong of the dispute between the two companies) . There happened to be a wierd event happen. You might have heard of it. Covid. led to economic downturn. The brazil project was an expansion into the market and became financially no longer wise to fund that expansion with no immediate returns. if it was as simple as having a single translator im sure they would have done it but running an entire printing and logistical team in brazil was no longer in the cards

I seriously doubt we would be getting ANY digital file. It would be too easy to share it. Unless I'm proved wrong "Digital" means to me that you can use it on DnD beyond and on their VTT *only*, it won't be downloadable in any way.

The website lists a digital file already and I'm betting you are right "Digital" means only for DND beyond. Regardless of their desire it will be on the high seas quickly

All this D&D Beyond nonsense surely can't be because of that one silly dude's idea to make D&D a virtual only experience, right? Right? 😢

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say I’ve played 5e, and the older editions like 4 and 3.5, I still like 5e the most, but this new book is an absolute travesty and I will never play it.
