I blame the director more than the actors for the performances in GOF. Scenes are shot out of order so the director should explain the tone of the scene and what each character is feeling since the actors haven’t had as much time with the screenplay. The best example of bad directing in GOF is the last scene with the trio after cedric’s funeral. The trio is acting like just won the lottery when they should be in shock and scared of what’s coming next

Dumbledore saying at the end : "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I therefore award ten points to Mr. Neville Longbottom." This makes SO much more sense in the books because Neville actually defended Harry Potter and his friends lots of times and always got in trouble doing so. Neville got out of bed to warn them for Malfoy who was going to stop them rescuing the dragon. Neville was so hurt when prof Mcgonagall told him that Harry Potter made up the dragon story to purposely get Neville in trouble. Not only Harry and Hermione lost points for gryffindor that night, Neville caused gryffindor to lose 50 points as well! In the books Neville cried himself to sleep because of this. That's why he chose to stand up against them when they were sneaking out again.

I'll never forgive the producers for ruining Ron's character in the film series. Book-Ron was the favourite of so many people. The author even expressed some degree of exhaustion around how Ron was everyone's favourite and how nobody liked Hermione. Producer told her his fav is Hermione. And that shows, as Hermione got pretty much all of Ron's valuable lines, while he was left as some kind of comic relief/friction-creating character.
One of the worst is (SPOILER!) in book 3 when Ron limps in-between Harry and Sirius Black and exclaims that if he wants to kill Harry he's going to have to kill them too. Arguably one of Ron's most badass moments which shows his loyalty and friendship to Harry. In the film that line was entirely given to Hermione while Ron is whining and being worthless in the background. Wtf.
I really don't get how you can direct a film and be like "Yeah seems reasonable to just give this line to another character", for absolutely no reason?

To me, the most interesting difference between this book and the movie, is the relationship between the trio, in the books, hermione became their friend after they saved her from the troll, but in the movie, she kinda goes with them everywhere, and it has a lot more of screen time. Not only that, but in the movies, harry basically never had any beef with hermione. In the books it's totally different, hermione it's basically another secondary character until the troll situation, being constantly described as noisy and annoying, to the point where even harry told her to mind her own business. Basically, that whole animosity between ron and hermione in the movies, happens with both ron and harry.
Another interesting thing, is that in the movies, the houses share all the assignments, but, in the books, every house has their own classes, they only share potions and flying lessons with slytherin.

It depends on a number of factors. Most of the time it simply has to do with the film’s runtime as a book would sometimes be so long that it would be next to impossible to include every little detail from the book without making the movie too long. Other times it also has to do with wether or not certain things that happened in the book would be easy to implement into the film where the audience would understand it or not and if the special effects are advanced enough for them to do certain things that would be possible with conventional means. Hope this gives you a good enough idea of why not all film adaptations are 100% faithful to the original source materiel.

Writing a book you're not limited by these things only your own imagination. Pen and paper are not as expensive as camera film, renting/building a set, hiring actors, Visual effects, and paying crew members. As the series progress, they also have to maintain continuity. The fact that he continued on with his life and didn't off himself or end up in a sanatorium, didn't try to harm her or James, and didn't try to force Lily to be with him, shows he wasn't obsessed. I think anyone would be pissed seeing someone they care about choose to be with an arrogant ass like James, even if you don't have romantic feelings for them. Was Snape a good person? Fuck no. Of course, Hermoine does have a lot more weaknesses than meets the eye such as blindly falling in love with Gilderoy Lockhart, her mistaken distain and jealousy towards Harry Potter using a modified potions book by the Half-Blood Prince aka Severus Snape, accidently grabbing a cat's hair instead of human hair for a Polyjuice potion she worked on for a month, storming out of Divination mid-class, feeling emotionally distraught by others especially Ron, and getting bested by a Boggart (Hermione's real fear not included in the 3rd film for some baffling reason).

But being gifted a literal trash present and then watching your cousin open all of his incredible presents is a whole new level of degradation. And I can only imagine the Dursley’s would have been like “you ungrateful boy we got you a present. Last time we ever do that for you” if he ever asked or complained or even looked sad about it. So I think they literally just gave Harry these presents to show him how much more important Dudley is than Harry to them, and to remind Harry of his place in their family.

Once you get to the end of book seven, you realize that every single detail of every single book (no matter how seemingly small) was in there for a very specific reason. One of my favourite change, albeit being highly controversial, is the opening scene in the Prisoner of Azkaban, when Harry is using magic at his 'home'. It perfecly captures who the main character is, without saying a word. At first we see a faint, glowing light. We immediatly get an impression that there is something odd and special going on there. as the camera comes closer, we see that the light is coming from a window of a house located in quiet neighbourhood that doesn't seem all that different from every other neighbourhood. Except for the flickering light in the window. When we finally see the inside of the room, we see it from behing the bars, almost as if it was a prison. In the room we see a character covered in bedsheet pronouncing a spell which causes the light to shine- why he does that, we still don't know. When the camera comes into the room, we are met with the reality of the situation. Hearing that his uncle is awake, Harry immediatly stops casting the spell and pretends to be asleep,so that he doesn't get caught. This strongly strongly resembles a situation in an actual prison, then the convicts try to escape and have to hide when the guard comes by. When the uncle goes away, Harry goes back to what he was doing. It turns out that he was reading and learning magic from a book. You could say, that by this he was 'escaping' the reality in which he was temporarily confined.
I don't care that it breaks the rules of the Magical World, Alfonso Cuarón did it consciously and it worked perfectly. The fact that he sacrificed the book canon to make this scene might even make it better.

I still do not understand why they couldn't digitally make Daniel Radcliffe eyes green. In Gone With the Wind, they painstakingly made Vivian Leigh eyes green even though her eyes were also blue. I guess they couldn't do what they did in 2001 what they did in 1939 with so much more technical advancement in 2001.

Fun Fact: Hermione actually slapped Draco, and the movies gave Ron's lines to others, making him seem like a useless best friend who only likes food. Also they changed it to the sorcerer's stone in the American adaptation because Philosopher is "too big of a word"

Where did you get that idea? It was all about marketing. Scholastic didn't think "Philosopher's Stone" sounded magical and gave the wrong impression as to the subject matter of the book. I read that J.K. Rowling actually gave them the alternative title when they asked for a change.

@@AttnDefDis_ there are both stories, and many people saying both. That is the one I heard more about.

That’s not why they changed it, it’s partly bc philosopher here means one who is philosophical in discussion of theory or a professional philosopher and marketing. Sorcery sounds cool and is magic like

What irritates me most about the name change is that the Philosophers' Stone is a piece of real world mythology that's been written about for millennia, not just some made up crap for a kids' book.

@@AttnDefDis_ For years they said that JKR thought of the Sorcerers title, but a Scholastic executive later said in like 2000 that it was one of their people. Rowling has said that she hated the title change, and if she had more control at the time she would have vetoed it.

There is so much fan art. The people who make these masterpieces are so talented.
