I always hated the scene where Ron agrees with Snape when he calls Hermoine an insufferable know-it-all. Just another way the directors completely butchered Ron's character.
Aging up the Marauders, Lily, and Snape actually annoys me. Part of the tragedy is how young Lily and James were when they died. They had barely left school or had time to start their lives, and yet they were prepared to die fighting. I've always felt this is part of the reason why Harry accepted the need to fight so young, because that is what his parents did. Snape's character also makes so much more sense if he is 30, rather than nearing 50. Snape's life basically freezes or ends when Lily dies. When Lily died he was only out of school for about two years. That is mostly why he is still so angry at his high school bullies, and still so deeply in love with his childhood best friend. That is why he was stupid enough go to Voldemort to save Lily and why he was immature enough to not care if James lived or died. Snape was still a kid when he was a death eater.
Underrated opinion. So true, the youth of Harry's parents and all their contemporaries feels important to Harry's character, the war, and the playfulness, strength, and hope (not middle-aged wisdom) that are embodied in Lily and the Marauders.
Ron :- Is street-smart, brave, deeply cares for everyone he loves and is fiercely loyal to his friends. Steve Kloves:- I'm gonna end this man's whole career
I will never forgive that Steve Kloves for taking away Ron’s famous line: ”If you want to kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us too!” and giving it to Hermione. Here we have Ron Weasley, standing up straight on a frickin BROKEN LEG (that he got from trying to PROTECT HARRY). Enduring pain that would make a pro wrestler cry like a little bitch, just to tell a known mass murderer to F*CK OFF from his friend. That’s some real loyalty and bravery. AND IT WASN’T IN THE MOVIE.....
@@voltrainer It also kinda sucks considering the fact that Rowling agreed to the butchering of Ron because Hermione was hers and the directors favourite. Even Harry was downplayed because of Hermione.
The reason the broken leg scene change pisses me off is because it sets a parallel to Lily's sacrifice. A mother willing to die in order to save her son speaks as much volume as a best friend standing on a broken leg to shield you from a presumed murderer. What's even more fantastic, the only other character who shares the same wand characteristics as Ron (willow with unicorn core) is Lily!!!!
"I, Sirius Black, Harry Potter's GODFATHER, hereby give him permission to visit hogsmeade at weekends" This is one of my favourite lines in the whole franchise ❤️
Technically Sirius actually had Crookshanks buy the Firebolt for Harry because he couldn't be seen at the Owl Office placing the order, though Crookshanks bought it with Sirius' money in Harry's name. The movie completely fails to portray how ridiculously smart that cat actually was in the books.
Crookshanks wasn’t even a regular cat. I can’t recall the name, but essentially the species that Crookshanks owed part of his lineage to were essentially a species of feline familiars, possessing vastly higher intellects. Additionally, Sirius had informed Crookshanks of who Scabbers truly was and the danger he posed to the trio, thus why he continued to pursue them in the hopes of bringing them back to Sirius in his dog form.
@@hiddendesire3076Crookshanks actually knew that was Peter was an Animagus. Just like Hermione figured out Rita was an Animagus in the 4th book. Crookshanks was Hermione’s familiar, not just her pet…
I actually like the movie showing ice forming when Dementors are around. It used to annoy me because it differed from the book, but the film doesn’t give us the internal monologue of them making everyone feel cold inside. This was the film makers’ way of conveying that and I’ve really warmed up to it. Pun intended 😉
100% agree, I started reading the books recently as I was just a child watching the movies so I'm going back and forth reading a book then watching the film adaptation, and I actually really enjoyed how they portrayed the "coldness" of the dementors
I thought the cold was a good way to portray the despair they give off. But I did not like the fact the gave them flight. Harry on a broom during quidditch looked down on the dementors during the first quidditch match. They didn’t fly.
Still hate how the screenwriter gave Hermione Ron’s line of “if you want to kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us, too.” It was one of Ron’s amazing brave moment. It was the moment where he showed how much he cared about Harry that he was even willing to _die_ with him. Right there, he bravely stood up to Sirius, who he thought was a freaking murderer. And declaring that, if he (Sirius) is going to kill Harry, then he should kill him, too. And he did that ON A BROKEN LEG. but of course, the screenwriter just _had_ to give his moment to Hermione. Just like he did with plenty of other Ron moments. Is giving Ron his own lines and moments a torture or something?
The way the movies portrayed Harry and Ron’s friendship made people misunderstand their relationship. Harry and Ron were CLOSE, like inseparable. They immediatly became friends on the train and Ron was already very loyal offering to be Harry’s wingman in the midnight duel and even sacrificing himself in the game of chess. The movies did fine in the first two, but then it slowly got toned down and they didn’t seem nearly as close as they were in the books.

One missing difference here: In the film Harry sees a cloud shaped as the Grimm but in the book he just sees Sirius sitting on the Quidditch stand as a Dog. So from a secret friend who wanted to see his godson play they changed to The worst Omen of death.
Thank you! and it's such an emotional moment in the Shrieking Shack when Sirius tells Harry he only got in to watch him play Quidditch... that he plays like his dad... and looks at him in the eye and tells him he'd rather die before betraying Lily and James and Harry believes him... that's such a beautiful moment
the book brings across the relationship between harry and sirius much better. This leads to movie 5 where it wasn't that sad when sirius died but in the books it was so so freakin tragic
Also Crookshanks was a very smart cat, he knew in diagon alley that scabbers was not a rat and later he helped Sirius because he realised Sirius was not a dog and Sirius had explained everything to crookshanks and crookshanks decided to help after a lot of deliberation. Crookshanks hadn’t trusted Sirius immediately
In the book, Harry was ten minutes late for defense against the dark arts the day Snape filled in for Lupin because Oliver Wood held him up discussing their upcoming quidditch match. In the film, he was on time for class and Wood's role from the book was cut from the film entirely.
wood, percy, lavender, pervati, cho, lee jordan, wood, cedric and others were almost entirely left out, or completely left out. Its actually so crazy to me. I wanna see all their lines on a movie even if it's boring
I recently realized that, right before Sirius escapes on Buckbeak, in the book, he asks about Ron ("What about the other boy--Ron?"), while in the movie, he does not ask about Ron ("I'll be eternally grateful for this. To both of you (Harry and Hermione).").
The actor who played Goyle was injured before filming started and couldn't work on this movie. Later its Crabbe who is replaced (in the movies) after he was arrested on drug possession charges.
This may just be my hot take here, but I actually really like Lupin’s werewolf form in the movie. The scrawniness, hunched back, and crackling bones (while he’s transforming) makes it seem like an ungodly affliction. Something that you wouldn’t even wish on your worst enemy. (Edit): Also, the wolfsbane potion didn’t completely stop Lupin from turning into a wolf. It just allowed him to “keep his mind” while he was one. “I was a very small boy when I received the bite. My parents tried everything, but in those days there was no cure. The Potion that Professor Snape has been making for me is a very recent discovery. It makes me safe, you see. As long as I take it in the week preceding the full moon, I keep my mind when I transform... I am able to curl up in my office, a harmless wolf, and wait for the moon to wane again. Before the Wolfsbane Potion was discovered, however, I became a fully fledged monster once a month. It seemed impossible that I would be able to come to Hogwarts. Other parents weren't likely to want their children exposed to me.”
I haven’t read the books in a while, but if I remember correctly Cedric tried to have the match replayed because he realized what happened to Harry, and he didn’t think it was fair for Hufflepuff to win that way Gryffindor turned him down but it’s a nice little moment that shows you what kind of a person Cedric is
They could have done this. They could have done it without even having to cast a guy to play Cedric one film before his big outing in GoF. But Cuaron decided the Quidditch mid game (where Harry DID successfully cast a Patronus but it “doesn’t count” as the dementors were not real ones) and finale (where Gryffindor wins partially so that Malfoy can stfu about being smug that Buckbeak was gonna die).
Lily and James: So how was your first meeting with our son? Snape: I called him a celebrity, asked him some potion related questions and took 10 points from Gryffindor because his neighbor made a potion that nearly killed the whole class. Remus: I saved him from a Dementor and gave him chocolate. Sirius: I kidnapped his best friend to get his rat, broke his ankle, then he and his friends beat me up, Remus came and we talked for hours about our school days, then Snape came almost caught us but got knocked out, Peter turned human again, me and Remus tried to kill him but Harry wouldn't let us, Remus changed into a werewolf, Peter escaped, and we got attacked by dementors, but don't worry Harry from the future came and saved us. Oh, and I asked Harry to stay with me over the summer and he said yes! Everyone: .... Snape: and you all think I'm the one with issues?
I’m glad someone finally pointed out how many important plot details were missed during the Shrieking Shack scene. No one ever complains about them but it completely skips over who Moony, Wormtail, Padofoot and Prongs are, how Sirius escaped from Azkaban (a question brought up during the Knight Bus scene) etc…
@@dannyjorde2677, really? I guess for die hard book fans that’s true but when it comes to casual fans and cinephiles, I never see them complain about this plothole

@@kavishbedi9281 That’s a fair point, but I was talking about pre-Twitter J.K. You know, while the original movies were being created and released. She should have been the screenwriter then.
I really hate how the movies cut off important scenes like these and giving hermione half of Ron's lines like in the chamber of secrets when malfoy called hermione a mudblood she understands the meaning and explain it not Ron's like there making hermione the pureblood and Ron's the muggleborn.
I cannot remember correctly, but I believe the Marauders and Harry’s parents’ casting choices were influenced by casting Alan Rickman as Snape. Since he is older, they had to make the others older.
I feel like they really changed the entire character of Ron and his loyalty towards Harry in the movies. They also made him overshadowed and changed his intelligence levels in the films. I think they wanted to just make him a more likeable, easy going, and Harry's sidekick. They should have let Ron's character shine a bit more and it is really upsetting with some of the changes.
Another small detail that people don't mention is that students at Hogwarts usually wore Wizarding clothes and not just muggle jeans and shirts... something which becomes important as in the Half Blood Prince Snape cuts points from Gryffindor because Harry entered the school grounds wearing muggle clothes. While in the film we saw all the time the trio are wearing muggle clothes
The movies from the third on lost the magic. Everything is gray and dull, rarely people are using wizards clothes, and spells are just a bunch of colored explosions without any effect or fun to them.
16:10 the wolfsbane potion actually doesn't stop a werewolf from turning, it just makes em lazy and less harmful and if I remember correctly also reduce the pain in transforming 😃 I love your videos btw keep going!👍

@@joshz2491 It's a great movie and adaptation. Aside from them butchering Ron a bit, it's a fantastic film that I would argue is better than the book in many ways.
It's really annoying how they left out all the marauders back story and why Hermione had a time turner. I also felt frustrated when Harry and Hermione didn't tell Ron what happened but I imagine they told him off-screen.
I really loved the scene of Snape protecting the trio from Lupin. It shows that even though he is a horrible teacher, hes still a teacher and cares about his students.
That was totally out of character. I've always annoyed by some stupid comments like Alan Rickman is a perfect Snape and Emma Watson is a perfect Hermione.
I'm reading the books and Harry actually comes of as a little dumb sometimes x) maybe it's because I already know the outcome of the story (since I've watched the films) but Harry can be insufferably stupid at rare occasions.

Unfortunately, it is a contest between Sirius and Severus on who’s moar immature. Just look at Sirius’s choice to bang Snape’s head on the tunnel ceiling, when, with Snape all tied up, Sirius could wake him up and force him to look at Wormtail. For justice reasons, and for “Rub it in Snivellus’s face” reasons.
I know Steve Kloves loves hermione and made her this untouchable genius, but he must have had some sorta hatred for Ron the way he just absolutely butchered his character
Thank you for summarizing. Unfortunately you forgot a little scene. You forgot the scene in which Lupine shoots chewing gum in Peves' nostril after he tried to stuff it into a key lock.
Theory: Crookshanks is actually James and Lily's previous cat, and when they died he was placed in a pet shop. He recognized Sirius in his dog form and his human form, and he also recognized Peter which is why he was always after him. And if Ron let Crookshanks eat Scabbers, Dobby, Tonks, Cedric, Lupin, Sirius, etc would all be alive as Voldemort would have never been revived. The hero of the story would be a cat!
Another theory is that Crookshanks is actually Serious’s brother (idk how to spell his name) who knew how to turn in a animajis because Serious did and left a something lying around that told you how to turn into a animal. And he survived Voldemort’s horcrucks and was angry when Peter framed Serious. So he decided he wanted to eat Peter. This theory is kinda off some parts don’t make sense but it’s still know throughout Pinterest.
The bond of the Marauders and how that plays as a character motivation for Harry is one of the most important parts of the series and it really saddens me that they cut nearly all of that background information in POA. Harry's "Prongs" line is so emotional and not only is it not in the movie, but it wouldn't make sense if it was there. I still see POA as the best movie though, I think Alfonso was the best director of the 4 and he did a great job adapting the book to a movie. The way he shows the time-turner and the interactions between future and past Harry and Hermione here is more comprehensible than it is in the book, and more interesting.
A lot of people consider this their favorite movie mainly cuz of the style. Realistically though, it contradicted so much of the established HP universe and left out so many plot essential details. The worst atrocities are the trio walking around Hogwarts grounds in MUGGLE CLOTHING, and the use of magic outside school.
@@nahor88 It's just a great movie all around. Most people who criticize the movies can't do so without comparing them to the books. It's a great adaptation aside from a few things.
one of the only changes i prefer in the movie over the book was lupin's werewolf form. That lanky almost human appearance that looks more wolf-like the closer u get to it was actually terrifying when I was young. It still creeps me out, but I like just how horrifying he looks compared to the book where u could confuse him with an actual regular wolf which is scary too, but not as visibly disturbing. Like one look at movie Wolf-lupin and u can feel why he hates his werewolf side
The whole thing with Hermione and the Firebolt being cut is to be expected considering how Steve Clovis’ favorite character is Hermione so he didn’t want to make her look awful in any way.
How tf would it have made her look awful? More like intelligent and caring. It's common sense not to accept anonymous gifts when you know there's a serial killer after you.
Potter fans: hey writers do you think we could stop giving all of Ron’s important lines and discoveries to Hermione ? Potter Movie Writers: I guess we can let him find and chase scabbers
Correction: Pettigrew is not using a wand to turn into Scabbers. He just picked up a dropped wand and tried to attack Sirius and Lupin and only transforms back when Harry disarms him.
This is really the beginning of Ron getting his moments shafted in favor of proping up Hermione because she's a certain screenwriters favorite character.
Me too. The book was instantly my favourite and when I first watched the movie it was with my childhood best friend, I slept at hers that night. For this memory alone I just have to love the movie
I didn’t like the movie very much. I get how much had to be cut because of time restraints, but they cut out the best parts. Like Harry learning about his father’s stag form. Plus they cut out the Quidditch final and the Griffindors winning the title. They also cut out the what the prophecy was and Dumbledore learning about it. And Ron’s shocking but funny quote to Peter, “I let you sleep in my bed!”
@@Capri_00 I know that the movie left out all those things, but it is my favourite Harry Potter movie anyway, especially because of the memory of watching it for the first time

The fact that they made Ron agree with Snape will forever haunt me lol The fact that he took her defense even when he was mad with her because of her cat says a lot about their relationship. He cares for her no matter what. That's without having to mention how they stripped him from his lines and him standing up against Sirius, defending Harry.
It's such a coincidence because all 8 of the hp movies are showing on tv every saturday, and Prisoner of Azkaban just came on tv yesterday, and the next day this video comes out. Truly incredible.
Great clip as usual ☺️. One correction, though: the potion Snape gives Lupin does not stop him from turning (if it did, he wouldn't have to stay away at all), but it lets him keep his own sense of mind like a "harmless wolf".
17:12 I believe there is one more difference that you didn't mention, is that in the film, Harry sees the Grim in a cloud before getting attacked by the dementors, and in the book, he sees Sirius' animagus form, that looks like the Grim
Book readers knew it from the very beginning that POA is where the movies actually started getting bad in terms of story telling and character development. POA is only good from Cinematic POV.
Nah a lot of the things in this film were done really well, they did Ron dirty and left out the marauders but other than that it was a great adaptation, condensing weeks into a night is just good writing if you kept it all it would be 4 hours long at least and it would be quite boring.
I’m so impressed by all of these facts that you listed. This is a 41 minute video of you listening tons of random facts from the Harry Potter book. It’s so much detail and must have taken so long. It’s so impressive. You really are one of the greatest TH-camrs out there always putting so much effort into your videos
as for the ages of the marauders- the casting directors really wanted alan rickman as snape, so they aged up the others in order to have alan as a convincing snape
Great work as usual. I’ve read the books several times over, most recently in audiobook format, so I know all about the various differences between the 2 mediums. Still enjoy watching these for how they’re presented tho. Yet saying that the fact that Lupin’s werewolf form is more like that of a regular wolf in the book has always escaped me for some reason. Probably ‘cause I have a habit of picturing the characters as they appear in the films ever since watching those. Interesting choice by the filmmakers given what JK was obviously going for.
27:51 Emma Watson didn’t mean to throw a punch at Tom Felton. The script called for her to slap him just like in the book, but Emma got carried away and threw a punch instead. After the director yelled “Cut”, she went to see if Tom was okay and apologized for what she did. Not the only time a Harry Potter actor got a little to physical with another actor. In one of the later movies, Helena Bonham Carter, who played Bellatrix LeStrange, stuck her wand in Matthew Lewis’s ear…and accidentally perforated his eardrum, resulting in the Neville Longbottom actor going deaf in that ear for a week!
Two of my favourite moments from this movie: 12:30 Malfoy saying "It's killed me! It's killed me!" and 13:50 Malfoy saying "This class is Ridiculous" and Crabbe nodding 😂😂
He also for got that lupin tells them that while being less wolfish in the mind while with his animagus friends, and that because of this they used to run around outside not in the shrieking shack😕
I think the actors being older works because all three characters are super stressed and prematurely aged. Harry even says that Lupin and greying hair. Being left in Azkaban I think that Sirius would also look stressed out and much older than he really was.
I tend to be a purist when comparing book to movie conversions. Though I do understand that there are things that don't convert well, like inner monologues. With that in mind, I can give a pass for depicting frost when dementors are around in the movie as a way of showing the intense cold that is felt in the book.

Yep. According to a lot of psychologists and psychiatrists the brain reaches adulthood when one becomes 25.
Yeah the actors are great, especially Alan Rickman, but too old for the characters.
Underrated opinion. So true, the youth of Harry's parents and all their contemporaries feels important to Harry's character, the war, and the playfulness, strength, and hope (not middle-aged wisdom) that are embodied in Lily and the Marauders.

Plus it gives them the “oh shit, they’re here!” factor
100% agree, I started reading the books recently as I was just a child watching the movies so I'm going back and forth reading a book then watching the film adaptation, and I actually really enjoyed how they portrayed the "coldness" of the dementors
I thought the cold was a good way to portray the despair they give off. But I did not like the fact the gave them flight. Harry on a broom during quidditch looked down on the dementors during the first quidditch match. They didn’t fly.
Still hate how the screenwriter gave Hermione Ron’s line of “if you want to kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us, too.”
It was one of Ron’s amazing brave moment.

I haven’t read the books in a while, but if I remember correctly Cedric tried to have the match replayed because he realized what happened to Harry, and he didn’t think it was fair for Hufflepuff to win that way
Gryffindor turned him down but it’s a nice little moment that shows you what kind of a person Cedric is
They could have done this.
But don't you think Ron was more likeable in the novels than in the films?
Another small detail that people don't mention is that students at Hogwarts usually wore Wizarding clothes and not just muggle jeans and shirts... something which becomes important as in the Half Blood Prince Snape cuts points from Gryffindor because Harry entered the school grounds wearing muggle clothes. While in the film we saw all the time the trio are wearing muggle clothes

Crookshanks is actually James and Lily's previous cat, and when they died he was placed in a pet shop.
Your so right
@Ida Good Point!
@Jacob Gordon I couldn’t spell it right
@Jacob Gordon what does that stand for
The bond of the Marauders and how that plays as a character motivation for Harry is one of the most important parts of the series and it really saddens me that they cut nearly all of that background information in POA.

Realistically though, it contradicted so much of the established HP universe and left out so many plot essential details. frr I think this person just doesn't like hermione. She was using common sense @@ahsink.3080
Potter fans: hey writers do you think we could stop giving all of Ron’s important lines and discoveries to Hermione ?
Potter Movie Writers: I guess we can let him find and chase scabbers
I hated how they cut out Crookshanks and Sirius's relationship in the film!!
I’ve spent the last 8 hours watching your Harry Potter videos, and then you happened to upload this!
Prisoner Of Azkaban is my favorite movie, it just reminds me of my childhood. Amazing video! I was waiting for it.
Me too
I also like prisoner of azkaban film is my 2nd favourite
@@Capri_00 I know that the movie left out all those things, but it is my favourite Harry Potter movie anyway, especially because of the memory of watching it for the first time
Take a shot everytime he says "this did not happen in the book"
That would be suicidal
Hi even though you probably won’t see this I just wanted to say that I ve been having rly hard times recently and your videos make me forget about all my problems so thank you very much
Love the videos and keep it up
Hang in there!! One step and one day at a time
Sending good vibes ur way
Thank you very much guys
Hang in there! Reach out for help.
All the people who liked and replied are with you! And so is the creator of this video!
The editing of these videos makes the content even more enjoyable - very well analysed, and it’s been releasing just in time with me starting to read the books! Awesome job, thank you!
Half of this: this happened later/earlier
Other half: in the book Ron actually said that.
Another 30% the movie actually didn’t include this, and instead made this up…
It's such a coincidence because all 8 of the hp movies are showing on tv every saturday, and Prisoner of Azkaban just came on tv yesterday, and the next day this video comes out. Truly incredible.
It's not really a coincidence. They play the movies on tv constantly and have been for years.
What channel are thg they on?!
Please respond
@@lilzzak nope in my country the movies haven't been on in 7 years. I only became a fan a few months ago and have been waiting for a really long time.
My country's channel-?
basically, everyone took others' lines... especially Hermione.
Quite greedy isn't she, Hermione
@@rowisaweirdo4941Hermione is not greedy. Its the screenwriter who made it
Great clip as usual ☺️.
True. PS and CoS are perfect adaptations even though they had a few minor annoyances which Incan forgive.
@@kavishbedi9281 They were the easiest to adapt lol
Oh shut up films don’t have to be a straight book to film adaptation to be good
@@IamJustAnotherUtubeR Facts. Do people realize how big the books were lol
Nah a lot of the things in this film were done really well, they did Ron dirty and left out the marauders but other than that it was a great adaptation, condensing weeks into a night is just good writing if you kept it all it would be 4 hours long at least and it would be quite boring.
Bruh. If you do this to the Percy Jackson movies it'll be hours...
Totally agree!
It’d be like having the lotus flowers

I’m so impressed by all of these facts that you listed. This is a 41 minute video of you listening tons of random facts from the Harry Potter book. It’s so much detail and must have taken so long. It’s so impressive. You really are one of the greatest TH-camrs out there always putting so much effort into your videos
as for the ages of the marauders- the casting directors really wanted alan rickman as snape, so they aged up the others in order to have alan as a convincing snape
Justified tbh
But it works for Remus and Sirius anyway. Sirius was in prison for 12 years, and Remus was a werewolf with painful transformations every month
@@jessfidler2356Snape too. He doesn’t care about himself and he lives under a L O T of stress.
By casting director, you mean JK Rowling. She wanted Alan Rickman to play Snape
Jeez, you are such a legend. Literally who takes the time to look at every single difference between a book and a movie? Only someone who cares :)
Wow !!! This is such a detailed review between the book and the movie !!
Thank you so much Morgan !!
Let's all be grateful that Morgan took a lot of effort and made this video when he just had surgery. Thank You SO MUCH Morgan!
Jk Rowling had to tell the films to slow down the relationship between Ron and hermione as they was going to fast
I am so looking forward to see the half blood prince version of this since that’s my favorite book❤️❤️ and great job Morgan big fan of your channel
Two of my favourite moments from this movie: 12:30 Malfoy saying "It's killed me! It's killed me!" and 13:50 Malfoy saying "This class is Ridiculous" and Crabbe nodding 😂😂
This man is recovering and still pushing content respect
You didn't mention about cedric refuses the win because of Harry's accident. That is the 1st time we knew about cedric and his character.
WOW. THIS MOVIE DROPPED A LOT OF INFO...
"poor professor lupin. He's having a really rough night" always cracked me up in the movie.

Kinda pretty cool though, for the dementors that is.
