I watched the movies first and I kinda regretted it
I watched the movies and never did the books
I watched the movies before I read the books... but the reason I did this was because when I was in first grade my parents were watching the first movie. I came down and said “ugh are you watching that movie about that boy with the birthmark” (yes I judged it so harshly I thought his scar was birthmark) I was forced to watch it and when it was over I was asked if I liked it. I then said it was one of the most amazing thing I’d ever seen.

I still have yet to read it / watch the play but based on the reviews that people have given it's not worth my time in the slightest
And I just watched the first 2 minutes of Movie Flames Book review and now I can say with confidence: I am probably never going to read the book or watch the play

I watched the play recently (Australia is almost back to normal) and it was okay lol. Like I enjoyed being in the world again but I didn’t believe majority of the characters actions, namely Harry’s attitude to his kid. And also the music was traaaaash, like it sounds like ringtones from 2009, so effing jarring. My favorite part were the practical magic effects.

Unless I am completely blanking, in OotP, when the centaurs carry off Umbridge, the exchange where Dolores says “Tell them I mean no harm!” and Harry replies “I’m sorry Dolores, I must not tell lies!” was only in the movie, and I thought that was a brilliant line.
Considering Umbridge is the only person other than You Know Who to leave a scar on Harry, that's fitting
Yes that was in the movie only, but I think these specific words were said in Deathly Hallows, at the ministry. But he must have said something similar in the forest as well.
I just checked. He did say those exact words in the forest, except he said Professor instead of Dolores. And at the ministry he said "You are lying Dolores. And one must not tell lies"

I recall my jaw dropping as I presumed she was killed or captured to be tortured by the centaurs, this was before I learned that Dumbledore told them to let her go in the book.
Really underrated scene was Hermione using Obliviate on her parents. The book could only make a small reference to it but the movie and especially the music showed us how emotional it was for Hermione
The only problem was that hermione didn't use obliviate on her parents in the books as the obliviate charm permanently erases memories. In the books, Hermione simply casted a charm that altered her parents memories, a charm that she can easily reverse once the war was over.

For me, Hedwig dying to protect Harry was one of my favorite changes to the movies. In the book, she was just at the wrong place but in the movie, she protected her friend and owner from a Death Eater.

In the books when mcgonnagal asks is that a student Moody says yep but in the movies he says technically it's a ferret which is so much better

Alan Rickman's delivery of Snape is nothing short of iconic. To see him go from cold, distant and deep in thought...to desperate, scared and emotional. It's incredible, and gets me every single time.

I like how the added a few words to Dobby's last words. In the book he just says Harry's name, in the movie he says “Such a beautiful place, to be with friends. Dobby is happy to be with his friend, Harry Potter.” Just a few words which didn't change the story but added so much more emotions.
The movies are aesthetically pleasing, they bring the settings of the books to life

For me, the scene that I thought was done much better in the film than in the book was when Voldemort possesses Harry at the end of Order Of The Phoenix. The emotional music, the flashbacks of the trio throughout the movies, Harry directly confronting Voldemort and telling him that he felt sorry for him- I thought it was extremely powerful and well done.

For me it was the opposite because seeing Harry lose hope and wish for death just to meet Sirius was pretty heartbreaking
It’s not realistic that Harry during his misery would just feel superior to Voldemort for not having friends. It was so powerful and so incredibly human to feel only grief and pain for the loss of Sirius that he even wished he could die to join him.
Love is shown in such a complicated and philosophical way in this scene (book)
@@amirashamma799 Yes but films are inherently different than books. For the majority of the movie Harry felt alone, isolated, and depressed. They had built up the two’s similarities all throughout and Harry’s realization that he had something Voldemort didn’t and confronted him face-on is more emotionally satisfying then him just wanting to die. It may work in a novel, but in my opinion, what the filmmakers did was much better. Yes maybe it’s not as “realistic” but it’s more powerful thematically.
I love the scene where Slughorn talks about the fish Lily gave him. The book doesn't have it, but the movie does.

My only gripe with Harry breaking The Elder Wand is I REALLY wish he fixed his old Wand before breaking it. That's one of the reasons he sought out The Elder Wand because The Elder Wand was the only wand that could repair it.
My problem with this scene is. That he didn't fix his own wand because he liked that wand so much and the other that it dosn't seem realistic to me that someone is able to break such a powerfull wand like that. All the other wands were only destroyed by curses (oh and Rons was almost destroyed in an accident.)
@@sawanna508that’s not true (at least in the books.) A few wands are broken by sheer blunt force… Neville’s is snapped in half in the Dept of Mysteries by getting kicked, for instance
For me, the thing the movies did better then the book was how Harry freed Dobby. In the book, Harry puts the diary into the sock, which Mr. Malfoy throws aside and Dobby just happened to catch; making his freedom just a lucky catch. By putting the sock into the diary, it not only shows Harry's cunning, but makes Dobby's freedom more justified, since Mr. Malfoy actually handed it to Dobby personally.

See I disagree. With throwing the sock it goes directly from Malfoys hand to Dobbys hand. In the movie Malfoy never touched the sock, he didnt even know it was there, he specifically handed dobby the Diary.
I cant imagine that a creature who spends their life doing house work has never been handed objects that have clothes stuck them or something.

@@harrypottersnumbrfan while I agree that the movie is nice in showing Harry's cunning nature, it makes the loophole of "I handed him a book not the sock, he should still be my servant". I'm thinking that either house elves cannot touch clothes or there are very specific rules because in the books Hermione tries freeing the elves by covering hats in garbage so they would pick them up
7:17 I've never noticed it before, but in the picture og the order, James and Sirius stand front and center, next to each other smiling happily, whilst Peter stand behind them looking on jealously. This was a cleaver detail to ad in and I think it tells us a lot about all three of them

He probably wished he could be as close to James as Sirius was... but honestly, he doesn’t deserve it. Because he doesn’t care about his friends as much as the others did, hense his betrayal that literally RUINED the friend group. He got James and his wife killed, got Sirius arrested (with DEMEANTORS) for a crime he didn’t commit, and faked his death, leaving Lupin alone, thinking two of his friends were dead and one was a traiter. Did Peter even think once about how his actions affected his friends? I doubt it. He only ever thought about himself. 😒

That's a really great feature to add in
Snape’s final words were actually haunting and heartbreaking at the same time. Imagine seeing the embodiment of the person you hate the most and the person you love beyond words. It really highlights snape’s love for Lily and makes us further sympathise with someone that we’ve hated since the first book. Honestly that line was just so powerful and well written.
It was a great arc. Snape always outwardly saw Harry as James which caused him to dislike him, but at the very end he realized Harry is also like Lily and he basically finally admits his admiration of Harry in this way.
@@apollyon9946 He bullied a kid for like 6 years because he was the son of someone that bullied him. He also did not give two shits that James or Harry be killed, as long as Lily lived. His love for Lily was incredibly selfish and toxic, and snape never changed.

I know it was painted as if snape hated Harry so much so most people would sympathize with Harry but imagine having to see the child of a man you hate with the women you love, but at the end he just saw lily in him he lost he’s hate . I also see that it was toxic to never let go but Harry is so much like his father, the man that bullied him and now he had to live with him and teach him. His dad is the man that married his love.

@@juanferrer5924 that, and it doesn't even contradict the lore. During the apparition classes, Dumbledore sets up the great hall so you can apparate within it. Why SHOULDN'T he be able to apparate out of the castle?

For me the thing I love the most about the movies is Alan Rickman’s Severus Snape. In the books, Snape is this really evil douche abusing students verbally and constantly trying to get Harry expelled. In the movies you rarely get to see him and most of the time he’s not trying to be a douche. He’s just strict. Think about the scene where he’s teaching Harry occlumency. In the books he’s making fun of him while doing it, while in the movie he’s really trying to help Harry in his own way. Also the way he puts himself in front of the trio to protect them from Lupin in the 3rd Book is just awesome foreshadowing to who Snape truly is.
I understand trying to tone down the hatred of Snape in the movies and I feel Alan Rickman absolutely nails that version of the character but I do appreciate the books reinforcing that a person’s regrets and loss can turn them miserable and hateful.

I remember that part, Snape shielding the trio from Lupin. It is so satisfying to see and when I noticed it for the 1st time, I was cheering like a kid.
That's the point, that's what Snape is. The movies changed him so much it's not even the same character. It makes it way easier to forgive him, he virtually never made a mistake besides joining Voldemort when he was young. I love Alan Rickman, but the movies' Snape is not better than the books'. Unless you're talking about literally "being good" which is shallow when talking about Snape. Yeah, in the books Snape is darker, but THAT'S THE POINT.
Is this a POV issue? That is, in the books, you only or largely only get Harry's perspective. But in the films, you can see/perceive Snape's to a decent extent, esp. by the end.
Something that’s sad, is that nobody saw Harry as himself in the end. Snape saw Harry as Lily, Sirius saw James (etc.)

I'm surprised you didn't include the scene from The Goblet of Fire where Cedric's dad finds out about his son's death and completely breaks down. It was done so much better than in the book, where (if I recall correctly) Mr. Diggory was obviously deeply saddened, but nothing to the degree that he displayed in the movie adaptation. Jeff Rawle did an amazing job portraying a father who had just lost his son and (as far as we know) only child.
The way he delivered, "THAT'S MY SON! THAT'S MY BOY! MY BOY!!!" was absolutely heartbreaking; and my mom admitted to me after seeing the movie the first time that she was genuinely saddened by his performance and that she would've reacted the same way. All that being said, this is still a great list.
Hey, I just re-read that part cause I couldn't remember his reaction in the book, so in the book it's not actually described, there's just a line of dialogue starting with "Amos Diggory is running towards us" (nb: it's a rough translation, I read in French) and Harry gets taken away by Croupton right afterwards, nonetheless I completely agree with you, even if I get why it got handled that way in the book (as we follow Harry's point of view and he's completely in choc and doesn't seem to be able to focus on what's going on around him, everything's kind of a blur), I'm always so deeply moved by his reaction in the movie, it's an incredible and tragic scene
@Lazy Spanish Girl That, plus the saddening score playing when he wailed over his son's dead body, just made it so much better than the scene in the book. I also like that they had Harry there briefly with Mr. Diggory in the movie before "Moody" escorted him out of the stadium

That scene is actually a really fascinating look at the different ways books and movies can portray two scenes completly differently to invoke a completely different intended emotion. And yet with a similar end goal in mind.
The book: the scene is written with minimal descriptions of the surrounding chaos. Harry, numb and in shock from his experience isn’t fully aware of anything. It pulls us directly into his perspective of shock. We’re disoriented, it’s busy, and it’s exactly what it intended. The book is attempting to be sad with the scene. Instead it’s supposed to bring the audience along with Harry, and to experience his suffering. That way in the next book, when Umbridge is there, and everyone doubts him were even more riled up, because we also experienced it. Umbridge isn’t just discounting Harry’s experience, she’s discounting ours as well. The intended emotions are confusion, shock, and numbness. It’s very very well done.
The movie: However, the movie went a different route. Since it’s more difficult to accomplish that same thing with a movie that the book did, do to the difference of medium, the movie did what movies do best. This was bombastic and epic. The scene is introduced with loud, blaring music, and a feeling of excitement. It also takes the audience along with it here, jarring us (and Harry), and then the audience. The score changes routes, and the shouting begins, drowned out by the father with his iconic line. This is done, of course, to draw sadness. The impact is massive, and is supposed to draw the audience along the same ride as everyone. While the goal is to get the audience to experience the horrid act and have their own experience with it, so when Umbridge comes along we still hate her, it digs at a different emotional wellspring. Namely, pity, sadness, and horror.
It’s rather interesting. The functional difference between how stories are told between the two mediums are well represented in the Harry Potter franchise. Most notably in the character of Snape
Luna telling Harry to talk to Rowena made much more sense to me and I loved that change. It seemed kind of random/rushed in the book where he just makes the connection “in living memory”
It seems like something Luna’s character would have deduced, and it reinforces the importance of getting help and not doing things alone
It was Helena Ravenclaw that Harry talked to. Rowena was Helena's mother and founder of Ravenclaw house.
Luna's character is all about keeping the team together in all of her appearances isn't she?

4. "I killed Sirius Black! I killed Sirius Black!" - Bellatrix Lestrange after killing Sirius Black.
5. "Why is it when something happens, it is always you three? Believe me professor, I've been asking myself the same question for six years." - Mcgonagall and the Trio.
6. "You're lying Dolores, and one mustn't tell lies" - Harry confronting Umbridge disguised as Albert Runcorn.
7. "How dare you stand where he stood." - Harry confronting Snape instead of just being under the invisibility cloak all the time.
You have obviously never read the books. Harry in the books use the cloak at two time only in the his return to Hogwarts. His walk to the Forbidden Forest and when everyone thinks he’s dead. That’s it. He confronts Snape in the great hall in person in both.

"It is I," said a low voice.
From behind a suit of armor stepped Severus Snape.
Hatred boiled up in Harry at the sight of him. He had forgotten the details of Snape's appearance in the magnitude of his crimes, forgotten how his greasy black hair hung in curtains around his thin face, how his black eyes had a dead, cold look. He was not wearing nightclothes, but was dressed in his usual black cloak, and he too was holding his wand ready for a fight.
"Where are the Carrows?" he asked quietly.
"Wherever you told them to be, I expect, Severus," said Professor McGonagall.
Snape stepped nearer, and his eyes flitted over Professor McGonagall into the air around her, as if he knew that Harry was there. Harry held his wand up too, ready to attack.
"I was under the impression," said Snape, "That Alecto had apprehended an intruder."
"Really?" said Professor McGonagall. "And what gave you that impression?"
Snape mad a slight flexing movement of his left arm, where the Dark Mark was branded into his skin.
"Oh, but naturally," said Professor McGonagall. "You Death Eaters have your own private means of communication, I forgot."
Snape pretended not to have heard her. His eyes were still probing the air all about her, and he was moving gradually closer, with an air of hardly noticing what he was doing.
"I did not know that it was your night to patrol the corridors Minerva."
"You have some objection?"
"I wonder what could have brought you out of our bed at this late hour?"
"I thought I heard a disturbance," said Professor McGonagall.
"Really? But all seems calm."
Snape looked into her eyes.
"Have you seen Harry Potter, Minerva? Because if you have. I must insist¨C"
Professor McGonagall moved faster than Harry could have believed. Her wand slashed through the air and for a split second Harry thought that Snape must crumple, unconscious, but the swiftness of his Shield Charm was such that McGonagall was thrown off balance. She brandished her wand at a touch on the wall and it flew out of its bracket. Harry, about to curse Snape, was forced to pull Luna out of the way of the descending flames, which became a ring of fire that filled the corridor and flew like a lasso at Snape-- Then it was no longer fire, but a great black serpent that McGonagall blasted to smoke, which re-formed and solidified in seconds to become a swarm of pursuing daggers. Snape avoided them only by forcing the suit of armor in front of him, and with echoing clangs the daggers sank, one after another, into its breast¨C
"Minerva!" said a squeaky voice, and looking behind him, still shielding Luna from flying spells, Harry saw Professors Flitwick and Sprout sprinting up the corridor toward them in their nightclothes, with the enormous Professor Slughorn panting along at the rear.
"No!" squealed Flitwick, raising his wand. "You'll do no more murder at Hogwarts!"
Flitwick's spell hit the suit of armor behind which Snape had taken shelter. With a clatter it came to life. Snape struggled free of the crushing arms and sent it flying back toward his attackers. Harry and Luna had to dive sideways to avoid it as it smashed into the wall and shattered. When Harry looked up again, Snape was in full flight, McGonagall, Flitwick, and Sprout all thundering after him. He hurtled through a classroom door and, moments later, he heard McGonagall cry, "Coward! COWARD!"
"What's happened, what's happened?" asked Luna.
Harry dragged her to her feet and they raced along the corridor, trailing the Invisibility Cloak behind them, into the deserted classroom where Professors McGonagall, Flitwick, and Sprout were standing at a smashed window.
"He jumped," said Professor McGonagall as Harry and Luna ran into the room.
"You mean he's dead?" Harry sprinted to the window, ignoring Flitwick's and Sprout's yells of shock at his sudden appearance.
"No, he's not dead," said McGonagall bitterly. "Unlike Dumbledore, he was still carrying a wand... and he seems to have learned a few tricks from his master."
With a tingle of horror, Harry saw in the distance a huge, bat like shape flying through the darkness toward the perimeter wall.

@@matthewrosenthal753 He doesn't. snape isn't even in the great hall in the books. He, McGonagall and Luna (He and Luna are under the Cloak) meets Snape in a hallway. Snape and McGonagall fight. At some point Flitwick, Sprout and Slughorn join them and Snape flees
@@matthewrosenthal753 please read the chapter the lost diadem again, clearly you don't know what actually happened in the books. Snape never got confronted in the great hall and Harry never revealed himself in front of him. The teachers fought him off and he fleed before Harry took off the cloak
@@matthewrosenthal753also he uses his cloak more than twice. For example, used it with Ron and Hermione during the battle when draco said "I'm draco I'm I'm on your side" to a death eater and Harry stunned the death eater and Ron punched draco under the cloak

@@melissacooper8724 Opposite for me, it's the perfect bookend for reminding the reader Harry's character flaws are his own and not attributable to his being a horcrux.
i actually really like how they decided Neville to give the gillyweed to Harry instead of Dobby - once again enhances his strengths
My favorite change has to be the flight on Buckbeak. In the book, Harry do not really enjoy riding him. In the movie, it feels like Harry is having a break from the threat of dementors and Sirius Black and just enjoys the feeling of freedom and being a kid. It makes an amazing scene that goes so well with the themes of the book.

I completely disagree, I feel like most people would love to ride Buckbeak but Harry isn't always a path for us to insert ourselves into the wizarding world, he's his own character. The Buckbeak flight scene is probably my favorite scene from the movies. It honest to God feels more magical than even the first two movies and overall it’s just a beautifully done scene.
Unpopular opinion: I actually liked the idea of having Neville tell Harry what happened to his parents. I love how he told Harry that he was proud of them, but wasn't ready for the world to now. I think this gave his character arc more growth than the in the book. I do think they could've done it better in the movie, but the idea was great
I think MF's opinion on the 5th book is generally unpopular... pretty much everyone I've spoken to or had heard of until him considers the 5th book their favorite, and the 5th movie the worst one. One of the best things in many people's opinion about the 5th book is that it does provide so much content and story, essentially "fan service" to people who can't get enough Harry Potter. The movie stripped away most of that just cuz it wasn't central to the plot.
HP isn't just a book series; it's borderline a religion to millions of people.

I think the Dark Mark scene in Half-Blood Prince also ties into Dumbledore's line from Prisoner of Azkaban. "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light". It also signifies that they still have a chance, as their light is able to dissipate the Dark Mark. So even at the worst of times, when all seems lost, there's still hope.
The kids staying together in the Dept of Mysteries harkens back to Luna telling Harry that Voldemort would see him as less of a threat if he is isolated from his friends

What one of my favorite lines in the series is "You'll never know love. Or friendship. And I feel sorry for you." The I feel sorry for you bit just shows how Harry is considerate, even to people who murdered his family.
And come to think of it, it perfectly connects Dumbledore's words:
"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living and, above all, those who live without love."
Someone may have commented this already, but my favourite change was in the Half Blood Prince right before Dumbledore’s death. The scene where Harry has his wand out underneath the stairs and Snape comes up behind him and holds his finger over his mouth to tell Harry to keep quiet. It added a ton of depth to the scene for me, especially with the knowledge about snape and dumbledore having planned dumbledore’s death.
I really liked the scene where Professor Slughorn tells Harry the story about the student that gave her a gold fish and it turned into a lily. I thought it was a very beautiful and moving story. And it convinced Slughorn to get over his shame and to reveal his great secret.

Even if I didn't really like the fourth movie that much, I love how Barty Crouch Jr does that lip thing. It's how Crouch notices that his son impersonates Moody. That scares the heck out of him. Knowing his son is in Hogwarts and being unable to tell anyone and when he finally decides to tell Dumbledore he gets killed by him. That is so clever, even if you could argue that people should have noticed it then.
The only one at Hogwarts that knew the tongue thing was Crouch Sr and maybe Dumbledore? So who else could have realized it just by that? Maybe Dumbledore forgot about that or just assumed it was just Mad-Eye being "mad". Possibly Snape could have know, but Crouch was said to become a Death Eater in his late teens which means Snape and him were only Death Eaters together for a few years or less.
I hated it. In B.C Jrs case, less is more. His 'tell' was the biggest giveaway to pretty much everyone who hadn't read the books.
I would add the scene in POA, just after Lupin has become a warewolf, when Snape comes out from under the tree and gets in front of the children to protect them against Lupin/warewolf.
It's so much better than the rather ridiculous scene from the book, when Snape is made return to the castle, hopping.

I agree that it was obvious but yeah, it works really well in the film because they built up to it. People tell Harry throughout the films that he has Lily’s eyes to the point that he seems annoyed by it, it’s this tired line repeated by people you would have expected to have known Lily, it has no substance. Then all of a sudden they’re Snape’s dying words, this character you as a viewer have no idea even met Lily, and Harry is stunned.

Breaking the Elder Wand had always brought me discomfort because I wanted him to repair his original wand first, but I had never looked at it with this perspective in mind and it was brilliant, thanks for the closure!

Something I actually preferred was the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix. In the book Dumbledore is completely in control, and while I get the appeal of showing Dumbledores power and why Voldemort feared him, I think Voldemort fearing him doesn't necessarily mean that Dumbledore *can* beat him, it just means he was the only one who had a *chance* of beating him. Dumbledore was still shown extreme power through holding his own against Voldemort through sheer power, without any magical love protection, but also shows Voldemort being an intimidating villian, which he needed because prior to this he had always been shown being defeated by a 14 year old. Voldemort needed that boost. Plus it shows great CGI and Cinematography.
although if you are looking at it correctly, most of Dumbledores struggle against Voldemord in the movie comes from Dumbledore pushing Harry out of danger while fighting :D
There was one point during their battle in the book though where Voldemort might have killed Dumbledore if not for the intervention of Fawkes. Fawkes swallowed a killing curse that was bound for Dumbledore when his back was turned.
Dumbledore was not in control all the time in the book, Voldemort deflected and broke all of his attempts to subdue or disarm him. Also, at one point, Voldemort nearly killed Dumbledore and had to be saved by Fawkes who swallowed the Avada Kedavra that almost hit him. He would say that in both the movie and the books, the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort was very hard for both of them.
I also like how in the GoF how Neville was the one who gave Harry the gillyweed. I feel like that was a good introduction to Neville's character development.
Yeah, if I remember correctly, that's the first time he's portrayed as a helpful character in the movies. In the books he was already helpful (or tried to) in the first one, when he helped Harry and Hermione in getting rid of Hagrid's child dragon (and got punished to the forbidden forest, instead of Ron).
That scene was supposed to be for dobby if the film makers gave this scene to dobby his death would have been more heartbreaking later on

One that I'm always unsure if I like more or less is Draco calling Hermione a mudblood in Chamber of Secrets. In the books she's unphased because she doesn't know what it means, but in the movies she does know and is upset. I like in the books how it's a moment where Ron gets to show off his expertise because in the movies Hermione is ALWAYS the smart one and Ron is ALWAYS the dumb one, but I like in the movie how Hagrid gets a heartfelt moment where he comforts her and explains it to her in an adult way. I wish the scene came out as a combination of both because I think the movie and the book scene are good in their own ways, but still lacking something.
Harry snapping the Elder Wand in half filled me with pride and satisfaction, much more so than if Harry had simply placed the wand back into Dumbledore's tomb. It to me was the most heroic thing Harry did in the entire series. He rejected power.

I like Lucius' words to Greyback better in the film than the book. In the book, Greyback or one of his men says "Begging your pardon Mr. Malfoy, but it's us who caught him, and us who be claiming the gold." And Lucius says "Yes, yes of course, you'll have your money."
But in the film, when Greyback says that, Lucius responds with "You dare speak to me like that in my own house!" all panicked and shaking. I love that so much more as it really highlights his desperation and fear so much better.
My only gripe about Harry snapping the Elder wand is the fact that he didn't repair his Holly wand. That one action to me was the main thing that made it seem off

I liked the scene where Harry sees Pettigrew in the mauraders map which hinted at Pettigrew being a rat, and then leads leads seemlessly into Harry's run-in with Snape. Another tiny but great addition in the Chamber of Secrets was harry seeing his reflection in the window as he realises that those who were petrified hadn't seen the basilisk directly.
My only annoyance about the snapping of the elder wand is that Harry didn't use it to fix his own wand first lol. I kept wanting to be like "wait- wait- there's one thing you need to do first!!"
To me, the best movie moment that was better than the books was Neville's speech because the way that Harry jumped out of Hagrid's arms and fired the blasting curse right as Neville pulled the sword out gave me chills.

The problem with Snape holding Lily's dead body is that it suggests Snape returned to inform Dumbledore of Lily's death and Dumbledore sent Hagrid to retrieve Harry. Meaning Snape left a 1-year old in a crib overnight in a half-destroyed house with two dead bodies on the floor.
In the book it's not clear who informed Dumbledore though. Do you know who?

My favorite is when Slughorn told Harry about the fish bowl Lily gave him and then Harry convinced him to share his true memory.
I much preferred that as well. The book has Harry get Slughorn drunk and the man barely knows what he is doing, even with the line, "He won't even remember in the morning." but I loved how it was approached in the movie, "I know what you're doing, Harry. I'm sorry, I can't give it to you, it would ruin me." The haunting melody that plays over that scene may be the best song in the franchise, along with the stronger connection Slughorn was implied to have to Lily as a result of this little chat.
After re-reading the series multiple times this past few months, I will never forgive how terribly the movies treated Ron. He was amazing in the books, and the movies butchered his character. What makes it worse is that, in my opinion, Rupert Grint was the best child actor of the main three, so he could've EASILY been able to pull off an amazing "book Ron"
Just as Bonnie Wright could have done an amazing book Ginny, her real life personality is energetic, intelligent and humorous but nobody let her use any of that in the movies.
If I had the power to do so, I would go rework all of the films and give Ron all of his great moments and make him closer to his book counterpart.

Snape finding Lilly accually brought tears to my eyes. the emotion, acting and visuals are just perfect. it really showed Snape's emotional side.
In the 2nd book Lucius Malfoy throws the dirty sock that contained Voldemort’s dairy at Dobby but in the film they improved that scene by placing the sock in the book. Malfoy not knowing what he was handing over to Dobby!

That snape holding lily scene was the most heartbreaking. Especially when you see his heart drop as he collapses to the ground seeing her body.
Whilst I think Alan Rickman's acting is fantastic, don't you think it's disgusting? I'm confused how it can be seen as heartbreaking when Lily was married, had a child, and despised Snape. Let's not forget that he was very much a death eater up until her death.

I'd also argue that the films captured atmosphere and tone far better than the books too; a lot more ambient and subtle, and you could actually witness this atmosphere for yourself in a visual form.

#11: Voldemort’s death (fight me)
In the movie, his death is far more cathartic and poetic. Some say his death scream is overly dramatic, but it makes perfect sense thematically and logically. Despite everything Voldemort did to avoid death, all the suffering and atrocities he committed, death has finally come for him and he has just enough time to realize it. For the first time in his life, he’s _terrified,_ and all he can do is scream as his greatest fear comes to claim him. But it’s far more than that that makes the movie death better.
In the book, his death is too quick. Not in the sense that it should have been more gruesome, but it felt so hollow to have an absolute monster meet such a quick and painless end when so many of his victims were not so lucky. By having him realize he is dying, his fear gives the audience some measure of justice. This works doubly so when you consider JK Rowling’s original intent. The idea was to show Voldemort was still just a human and was just as vulnerable anyone else. The movie portrayed this in a different way by having him die in terror; the same terror that his victims felt before he killed them. It’s this terror that shatters his illusion of immortality and reveals him as truly mortal, just as JK Rowling intended. Of course, the cherry on top is Lily’s theme playing over his muffled scream, showing that Lily has been avenged and her sacrifice vindicated.
TL;DR: Movie death expressed JK Rowling’s original idea in a much better way while also giving a greater sense of closure and poetic justice.

Your attempt to parallel Voldemort's terror in facing death with that of his victims would only make sense if Voldemort had reacted this way just as he was going to be hit by the Killing Curse and not afterwards. The fact that he still had a moment of lucidity after being hit with a curse that is said to be instantaneously fatal to whomever it touches doesn't really sell the whole "Voldemort was still just as human as everyone else" message.
Not to mention the non-dramatic way he died in the books made far more sense. It was more realistic and sensible in its depiction of death. People don't die in a flashy manner. They just die. That’s how it is. He did not die any differently than his victims died. Most of his victims died to his signature spell, the Killing Curse. And just like him, they all merely dropped to the ground. Just like him, many of them had no time to process their fate. His death is also much better in the books because there's sort of an ironic sense to it. To Voldemort, death was the worst possible thing imaginable. He was utterly terrified of it. He went through unspeakably terrible measures to avoid it. He pushed himself to the limits of his power, went through immense suffering and struggle, sacrificed his body and soul just so that he could become immortal. And all that just for it to finally hit him so non-dramatically. It shows how death is nothing monstrous or wicked. It's just a completely natural and inevitable phenomenon that we must all accept will come to us one day.
I think that in the books, Voldemort was feeling as much dread or more than in the movie. In the books, he slowly realizes he has lost as Harry explains everything to him, he is completely terrified before dying suddenly without a chance to defend himself. That's better than him just screaming after the fact with no buildup
I don’t agree but I do get what you’re saying. In the end, I think his book death is better simply because he understood how deep his failure truly went. Harry made Voldemort realized that he had lost and there was nothing he could do about it. Snape tricked him, dumbledore outsmarted him, his death eaters were all defeated or killed, and finally Harry was the master of the elder wand, which meant that it was all over.
The music to Harry Potter is the greatest thing of all time!

I want to include Hedwig's death as an improvement too. On the books she dies caged, on the movie she was free and died a heroine saving Harry out of her loyalty to him.
Speaking of Snapes final words: In the german dub he says:"Du hast die Augen deiner Mutter, Harry." which is the same as in English with the small added change of calling him "Harry" as opposed to "Mr. Potter" for the first and only time in the series.
Order of the Phoenix was done so well. The department of mysteries is one of my favorite scenes in the series.

What I also liked about a movie adding, is the line of Sirius-"Get away from my god son" and then punches him. That was great, I like it so much better. Also, Bellatrix using the killing curse, is not said in the book, it's just a logical guess. There are other offensive spells that can kill, but they decided it's their interpretation. Well done.

One change that I will say is _always_ better than in the Books, is from Prisoner of Azkaban when Harry actually _sees_ Peter Pettigrew's name on the Marauder's Map. A problem that I've had with the Harry Potter books is that, although they are mysteries that the audience is meant to figure-out before the end, we are _never_ given all the necessary clues, and therefore the twist reveals at the end come off as genuine _cheats._ (This worked better for Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets, but here is where it started being a problem.)
Much like Barty Jr in Goblet of Fire, we're only given such a small portion about Peter Pettigrew that he's sort of pushed out of our minds later on in the story; he was such a small detail that he's largely forgotten about. So it comes right out of nowhere that he turned out to not only be _alive_ but that he was the one who sold the Potters-out and framed Sirius for it.
So I like the fact that the movie not only _reminds_ us that Pettigrew was an important factor, but also gives us a hint that he actually _is_ still alive. And better still, when Harry goes to confront him in the hallway, if you listen closely you can actually _hear_ the patter of tiny, clawed feet on the floor - and then observing his movements on the map, that back and forth pattern, indicates the scurrying of a _rat._ It's one of those things you appreciate in hindsight.
I really didn't like how in the Books, the sequence with Lupin taking the map happens unrelated to these events, and that it's by sheer dumb-luck that Lupin just happened to be looking at the map when he did so that he could spot Pettigrew. That right there is a _cheat_ in my eyes, and it's just...for want of a better term, _lazy._ But by combining the scene where Lupin covers for Harry and then confiscates the map with Harry investigating Peter Pettigrew, it clues Lupin in that _something_ doesn't add-up. So now he has a reason to be _actively searching the map_ to find Peter.
Plus, I like the idea that Snape was just _following Lupin_ - convinced that he's in-league with Black - to get to the Shrieking Shack, instead of having Snape see the map too. Sorry but Lupin would have known better than to leave the map lying around.
Course this is just one thing it did _better_ while getting virtually the rest of the book wrong.

the overall best part of all the films is when harry collects snapes tears goes back to Dumbledore's office and looks at the memories that shows who Snape truly is... tear jerking every time
To the Luna point, i also want to add hot they portrayed harry getting connected to luna as a friend in the movies. In the books, hagrid tells them that Thestrals can be seen by those who have seen death, but in the movie, luna tells this to harry when they two are alone in the grounds. It just shows how he connected to luna because of one her parents being dead and how she was being treated as an outcast and weird by others, just like harry was being treated in The Order Of Pheonix.
This is one weird thing I like, but it's Snape's outfit when he went to Godric's Hollow. In the books, they always described Snape as an "overgrown bat" but that was changed in the movies, making people see that snape is simple, quiet, and weirdly, loving. It also shows how he always looks like he's mourning over Lily's death for 17 years
Let me just add something: I think it was pretty cool when Dudley fell in through the glass in the sorcerer’s stone movie alone rather than with Piers like in the books, it’s so dramatic I luv it!

One change that I liked in the movie was the third task. I just like the fact that there was no physical threat, the only threat is psychological. I found that far more terrifying than the Sphinx, acromantula, and dementors.
Excellent video! I'd never thought about the film's Department of Mysteries fight like that, so thank you for giving me a new perspective! Here's some of my other favorites changes:
-the Barty Crouch Jr. twist being made apparent to the audience but remaining hidden to the characters until the end
-scene of the teachers discussing what to do about Harry being in the Triwizard Tournament
-Slughorn's speech about Lily (along with Slughorn's whole character being superior in the films imo)
-Quirrelmort scene extended
-Neville giving Harry the Gillyweed
-Grawp being downplayed (totally biased sinced I'm really not a fan of the Grawp sub-plot)
-Snape shielding the trio from werewolf Lupin
(Haven't watched the the movies in years so these are just off the top of my head. Might add more as soon as I re-watch)
The Goodric’s Hollow scene was so moving and sad that the first time (and every time after that) I cried. Best thing the movies included by far.

That scene of Snape’s memories and of him holding Lily are my favorite part of all the movies and books. I cry every time.
My 2 favorite scenes were snape holding Lily's dead body .and revealing to dumbledore that his patronus is also a silver doe. same as Lily's . Of course I'm partial to snape anyway because I have seen in real life what depression and P TSD does to someone. I have experienced it myself a few times. And my mother suffered from deep depression so there was always a negative aura about her. This is why it's so easy for me to identify with snape And understand snape and and why snape is my favorite character.

About The Order of the Phoenix, I also love the Dumbledore and Voldemort battle. If I remember correctly, in the book they used some statues of the Ministery of Magic to fight each other. I think that was an amazing change.
I really appreciate the juxtaposition of Snape mourning Lily with Harry sitting there crying. Both of them are sad and alone.
and i do love the scene in the 6th movie where harry uses sectumsempra on draco. i find it much more emotional and intense and sadder and seeing harry just run away and looking like the bad guy was more interesting too. i mean, i love times when u see the main hero look like the villain
You know, as much as we all like to bash the movies and say,”Eh, this wasn’t like this in the books. This was supposed to be this” etc. etc.
I think we all should be thankful we got the movies which are very decent. And enjoyable. If someone hadn’t read the books then the person might not even notice the flaws!

Yeah Harry Potter was the best book to movie adaptation. It could of easily have been really bad and a cash grab movie franchise but a lot of care was put into the movies by everyone involved and they had such a great cast. Usually the older the kid actor grows up the worse the acting gets and they loose all of their charm but the Harry Potter series did the opposite and the acting was phenomenal by the end.

@@ben1ben2ben1YES. In the movies, Snape is made to be way more likeable due to Alan Rickman's charisma and cutting out some of his lines that show how horrible he is. I understand why people eho didn't read the books like snape. But Snape in the books....a stalker, sadist, self absorbed dark wizard with double standards. His "love" for lily isn't sweet. It's pathetic and creepy. Harry was emotionally vulnerable when he saw his memories and so were we. But still, in his memories he is a creep and he shouldn't be proud of them. If he truly loved lily he wouldn't be stalking her and staring at her with lust, manipulate her to becoming friends as they were the only wizards around, be mean to her sister, manipulated her when she was distraught about their fight, refused to give up dark arts even though she told him she despised that, was friends with bullies, went on to become a deatheater after fucking up his and lily's friendship, telling Voldemort about the prophecy that meant he would have to kill a child, offered Voldemort to kill one year old Harry and James instead of Lily. If he truly loved Lily, he would've cared for Harry as her son and devoted his life to the cause she caught for without the pressure from his promise to Dumbledore. He literally admits to only doing that to avenge her death not because he truly has changed. He bullied children just for his own enjoyment and never gave up his love for the dark arts. He switched sides only to avenge her death due to his obsession with her.

The fight with the basilisk, the "death" of the Riddle horocrux, was perfectly done to me. Better than the book version.
The "Nice one James" hit so hard the first time hearing it, and it hits just as hard hearing it again and again
Don't forget Harry using thoughts of his parents to summon his first patrons, as opposed to the book it being him finding out he's a wizard. We already know the impact him going to Hogwarts had on him, and the book was supposed to revolve around Harry learning about his parents.
