  • WHY DID YOU LEAVE YOUR LAST JOB? WHY DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE YOUR CURRENT JOB? (10 GREAT REASONS FOR LEAVING A JOB!)

    #interviews #interviewtips #interviewquestions
WHY DID YOU LEAVE YOUR LAST JOB INTERVIEW TIPS:
TIP #1 - Do not be negative about your former employer.
If you are, you will not get hired!
TIP #2 - Keep the reason why you are leaving short, and to the point.
If you keep talking about why you are leaving, the interviewer will get suspicious.
TIP #3 - If you have been made redundant or you have lost your job due to Covid, I will tell you what to say later in the tutorial.
TIP #4 - If you are leaving your job soon after starting, (within 6 months) you need to answer this question very carefully!
TIP #5 - If you have been fired I will give you some tips and advice for answering the question so you don’t harm your chances!
(10 GREAT REASONS FOR LEAVING A JOB!) 02:35
REASON #1 - You feel you have reached your full potential and you are now looking for a new challenge with an exciting and ambitious company.
This tells the interviewer you are ambitious and you want to keep moving forward.
REASON #2 - You are no longer finding your work fulfilling, and you want a job where your skills and qualities will be put to good use.
Remember - we spend a lot of time at work, and it is only natural that you want that time spent to be productive and enjoyable.
REASON #3 - The company was going through a restructuring.
This happens all the time, and leaving a job for this reason is perfectly valid. Say the company had changed direction and whilst you are supportive of change, you felt you wanted to go in a different direction.
REASON #4 - You want to work for a company where you will have more opportunities.
These opportunities could be to progress via promotion within the company, or the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects or tasks.
REASON #5 - There was nothing else new to learn.
You learned a tremendous amount in the position and the company was very supportive but you now want to learn new things because this will help you to progress personally and professionally.
REASON #6 - You want more responsibility!
This is a great reason to give for leaving a company.
You could say that you have spoken to your manager about being given more responsibility but none was available, so you decided to seek employment with a new company.
Say that you enjoy having responsibility and you want to feel you are contributing to an organization’s goals.
REASON #7 - You want a job that is aligned to your personal goals!
We all have goals we want to achieve outside of work. Whether it’s saving up to buy a house, or working towards getting married, you can only achieve your life goals if you have a job that helps you get there. Leaving a job to find work that enables you to reach your personal goals quicker, is a perfectly valid reason!
REASON #8 - You want a job closer to home.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to travel less. Not only does less travel reduce stress, it also saves you money, too. Therefore, saying you want to leave your job to get a position closer to home is perfectly acceptable.
REASON #9 - You want a job that offers more security.
You could say that in your current job there has been talk of restructuring and even potential redundancies. On that basis, you have been looking for a new job with an ambitious company where you will get to grow long-term with the team you are a part of.”
REASON #10 - You want to work for a company with a great reputation.
“Your company has a brilliant reputation and I would feel incredibly proud to work for you. The opportunities I would have whilst working here are very appealing and I would not hesitate in leaving my current job to work for you.”
IF YOU HAVE LOST YOUR JOB DUE TO REDUNDANCY Example Answer: 09:05
IF YOU HAVE LOST YOUR JOB DUE TO COVID! Example Answer: 09:48
WHY DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE YOUR JOB SO SOON AFTER STARTING? Example Answer: 10:24
IF YOU HAVE BEEN FIRED Example Answer: 11:12
TIP #1 - Be honest! It is really important that you tell the truth. If you’ve messed up, say so!
TIP #2 - Talk briefly about what you have learned from getting fired.
TIP #3 - Do not be negative or show frustration at getting fired! Be positive and seek to move on.

What I find contradictful is that a person has to be crafty to get through an interview to get a job. From the moment you walk in the door to the office of the interviewer you are telling them things that they want to hear. Basically massaging their ego to make them believe you are the best choice.
When a manager asks me why I left my last job I always think about the truth. "Because I wanted to." There is no good answer. It's a trap question. No matter what you answer, it looks like you were the issue at that job when in truth is usually someone in a leadership role not running the company well.

I never comment, but today I just wanted to say thank you, your video on calming interview stress was very helpful for me, and generally how to relate competences to the job description when answering questions.
I did get my dream job, even when I didn’t have much experience and still a student. You do such a great job and thank you for helping us climb the career ladder.

Good Day fellow Project Managers. I want to share my experience with Richards material. I had been looking for a job for months I seen Richards material and peaked my interest so I sent him a note and he responded right. Provided me access to additional materials he had. I was having and interview the following day, aced it started the job two weeks ago. If you just get half of Richards materials worked into your interview skills you are sure to ace the interview. From the bottom of my heart Thank You Richard. Everyone should take advantage of your videos. I would very much recommend to anyone looking to ace their next interview. Thank you again Richard form helping to get me back on the job. You are amazing.

Thank you so much for preparing that last script about what to say when you are let go. I realized that through all the times I was let go, I was not being honest with my employer about my autism, which impacts the way I think and communicate with others, because of how it would hurt my chances when in reality, not saying anything at all hurt me even more once I did get hired. I was putting myself on such a high pedestal that when I did not perform well, I was viewed as not caring enough when in reality it was the complete opposite and was really trying my best. Now I know that I can't hold myself to the same standards that people without a mental disability are held to. I just work differently and my strengths that come from autism can shine in roles more supportive of my given capabilities and can accommodate me without judgement.
I took a huge step in being vulnerable recently by disclosing my autism diagnosis during an interview for the first time recently. I made sure to be honest about both my strengths and weaknesses and now I scored a second interview with them! I'm going to try my best in answering their questions honestly. I am still learning to accept my faults but having the interviewee be so accepting of my disclosure made a huge difference for me. Thank you for all your advice! I greatly appreciate it!

Richard, thank you so much for your advice. One thing that I would like you to address, however, is how to answer the question "Why were you laid off or fired? I know it is a part of the category "Why did you leave your job?" But being laid off is often not the employee's fault, and, or, some people are fired because they simply did not get along with their boss. Please complete a video on how to answer that question under those circumstances. Thank you.

The reason to the question why one is leaving a job soon after joining is one that's been on my mind. Having started a new role on the 1st of June, I can tell that the fit between me and the role isn't great, for reason I raised in the interviews and was assured would not be a problem. Now after a month I feel underutilized and bored and exploring exit options.
