      Funny thing. This story essentially happened in a SCP story, where a case is being transported after a XK Class end of the world scenario, and pretty much every time the person looked inside of the case they would black out yet still make progress. They begin noticing that every time they look inside they make less and less progress and they do not always go unscathed, a few times around the end getting hurt while in the passed out state.
      I would not be surprised if this was inspired by the story.

      It's an in-joke thing. Klingon language, fonts, and symbols (along with klingons themselves) have undergone many iterations on screen and off screen. The behind-the-scenes "canon keepers" have conflicted bitterly about asserting their versions of these things, it's been an endless source of argument for decades. So trivial that even diehard Treknerds just shake their heads.
      Wikipedia and Ex Astris have lengthy articles (and different perspectives) about it.
      Not really funny in itself. I was just amused that they subtly referenced it in the show.

      ... This has led some Klingon enthusiasts to write it lowercase like the other vowels ("i") to prevent confusion, but this use is non-canonical. Instead, a serif font that clearly distinguishes "I" and "l", such as Courier or Courier New, has traditionally been employed for writing Klingon in the Latin alphabet. In any case, it can be disambiguated through context, as I never occurs next to another vowel, while l always does. The apostrophe, denoting the glottal stop, is considered a letter, not a punctuation mark.
      a b ch D e gh H I j l m n ng o p q Q r S t tlh u v w y ʼ
      Klingon is often written in (in-universe, "transliterated to") the Latin alphabet as used above, but on the television series, the Klingons use their own alien writing system. In The Klingon Dictionary, this alphabet is named as pIqaD, but no information is given about it. When Klingon symbols are used in Star Trek productions, they are merely decorative graphic elements, designed to emulate real writing and create an appropriate atmosphere. Enthusiasts have settled on the name pIqaD for this writing system.

    • @GeneralKenobi75
      @GeneralKenobi75 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lillith3159 But that's the problem. The whole point of the episode of the Original Series is that the Gorn aren't monsters like Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise first assumed. Now they're rippoffs of xenomorphs.

    • @AngelEmfrbl
      @AngelEmfrbl หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GeneralKenobi75 yeah, but they didn't understand the Gorn, thats the problem. Once things broke down between them and the Gorn, the Gorn became a ally to the Federation. The issue was the two species couldn't communicate, and the gorn have a nasty life cycle that requires another species to repopulate, this caused them to have a almost Borg-like reputation where everyone was afraid when one of their ships turned up. At the point in time of SNW, the Gorn are monsters, there is not much known about them in terms of their species great and SNW shows the first steps towards understanding them. Eventually they will form treaties by TNG era, and they will be at "peace" with other races.
      Its like when Picard met the captain from the Tamarians, and there was no form of proper communication, the translator could translate their words... But not their metaphors. So he mistook the Captains actions and attempts to communicate for a trial by combat situation. The reality is he wanted Picard to join him in hunting a wild creature to try and break down the walls.
      Then you have the Pakleds, whose main form of communication with each other is limited vocal expressions with a lot of slight facial ones, they can have entire complex discussions this way, but... Translate that into other species languages... You have "We Pakleds, we defeated Janeway and the Enterprise" because they misunderstood "Enterprise" to mean "Starfleet ship" and "Janeway" to mean "Starfleet female captain". They have no grasp of verbally complex languages. So when Klingons explain how bombs work to them...They fail also to understand they can't be reused because they don't understand "one use weapon", they understand it as "we can use this weapon". You can see how they fail at logic for that reason. In that respects, a Pakled lack of the grasp of logical verbal language means their in the same boat as the Tamarans.
      I remember someone said in regard to Picard's story that for many species in the galaxy, the inability to communicate good or bad intentions, must be one of the most frustrating things of all. It led the Gorn to be horrible misunderstood, and the Tamarians to be left unable just to speak to anyone and the Pakleds to be void of simple logic. While most of the species they come across are simple to understand and connect with, the lack of connection is the worst thing for any of them. Its only natural for any species to want to communicate with others and its important to convey both war and peace, trade and diplomacy.
      Excuse misspellings here, I'm on a limited machine.
