Bravo on this very accurate review. I too am a Maverick Hybrid owner and I ordered mine June 11th and received it early February of this year. Your videos have been honest and very helpful. Thank you. I love what you said at the end! It's so true!
OMG, YOU MADE ME LOL! Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the Hybrid. Once I heard about the Maverick back in Sept. I didn't really need a new vehicle, but kept thinking about it and pulled the trigger Oct. 4th on a Lariat Lux. I all but gave up on the 2022 but to my surprise I got a VIN last month and it got scheduled Aug 17 now its in production. I really enjoy your content and your calm demeaner, that's why I was so surprised at the end of your video, that just blew me away, so funny! Keep up the great content, your coming up on 100K subs so you must be doing something right.
Great review and update. Makes me even more confident that ordering the Hybrid XLT was the right choice for me. Sounds like I'm still at least a year out from getting mine because I live in Canada and the Lux package is almost a must for the winter here. I keep looking for red flags on canceling but haven't really seen any yet.
Has nothing to do with living in Canada. I ordered mine in February and it was supposed to be delivered in May. Then it was sometime in 2023. No one knows when their truck will come in. I cancelled my order and I"m driving my Prius Prime. Just frustrated I guess.
I also purchased a 22 XL. (I added 4 options, being the full size spare tire, trailer hitch receiver, bed extender, and the center console vault, the last of which is the only thing I would caution against.) I literally could not be happier with my truck. Y’all have fun rolling coal, getting 10 mpg, with outrageous fuel prices. Meanwhile, this truck is more than capable of meeting my needs and giving a helping hand to anyone that needs it.
My biggest problem is that it’s a pain to open. These days I don’t bother locking it just because, even if I’m not in a sticky situation where I need to get my gun out in a hurry, it’s just such a hassle.
Probably the best review ever since this vehicle was announced. I was on the fence of ordering a 2023 but I believe I will once the order banks open. Thank you
Also had my XLT hybrid for a month (after waiting a year and 10 days) and concur with Sam. Handles great, drivetrain is silky smooth, and the bed easily carries 4x8 sheets of plywood with the tailgate half-open for support. With ratcheting tie-downs I can load and secure my bike in about 2 minutes. My wife is surprised by how much she likes it, and may cancel her ID.4 order to share the Mav. I wouldn't have any other vehicle at any price.
Just got ours today. Someone else's canceled order that magically aligned with basically everything we wanted. Geez, this thing feels punchy at lower speeds. Up until about 40-50 mph, I would say it's on par with, or faster than our explorer. Those electric motors work wonders.
Most compelling vehicle on the road today. Cheaper than a Civic, yet it's a hybrid, 5 passenger truck with a 1,500 lbs tow rating. Thought Ford was silly to end cars, but if they can do this with a truck, I guess it wasn't so silly after all! That said, I'd have to pony up the $2k for the XLT for cruise control. I can give up a lot, but not that.
Sam, great looking truck, great content! I like the look of the truck, different and really unique in how it all came together! I recalled watching the videos leading up to and the purchase of the truck. Really cool in seeing how the truck evolved and your personal review of it. Great job as always, keep up the excellent work and enjoy your truck!
while I have a silverado and love, I get what the Maverick is about and am glad it exists. the benefits of it are very apparent, and I could see myself being perfectly fine with on as a daily driver....especially filling it at the pump
Sam, I really appreciate your videos on the Maverick. You've given me all the tools I need to make a well-informed decision to buy one in the next year. Keep up the great work!
After driving my Maverick Lariat hybrid for 6 months and putting 10K miles on it, the truck died and spent the next 66 days at the dealership. Finally got it back and it seems to be running well.
@@mulletsquirrel I was told the battery cable failed causing the whole electrical system to go out. Even electric door locks and dome light was out. The dealership said it was taking so long because they were redesigning the cable but I couldn’t verify that was the case.
Friend s this is a small truck….I have a XL hybrid like the one shown and we work it on our hay farm.We show almost the exact numbers as mentioned in this video..He gives you very accurate information..Great job 👏👏👏👍
I've had my hybrid maverick for about 4 months and put 4k miles on it, We love it except for low speed braking issue. The easiest way to reproduce the issue is to pretend you're at drive thru and there are 10 vehicles in front of you. Then take you foot off the brake and allow the truck to go forward about a car length. Wait about 30 seconds and repeat the foot of the brake and rolling forward about a car length. If you have the same issue the pedal will begin to travel further to stop and sometimes produce a jarring clunk of various intensities. When I took it my dealer they had to get Ford engineering involved and engineering decided it wasn't a safety concern because they were able to reproduce the defect in other hybrid mavericks. I was puzzled by their response because I would consider any defect in the braking system would be considered a safety issue.
@@TestDrivenTV my dealership is keeping the service ticket open until they have a chance to talk with the regional manager. I'll look for your new video.
@@dsmessenger I asked my dealer to try mine out and I specified how to replicate the issue but they came back saying they couldn't replicate it. I have an appointment on Monday for them to replace a defective switch (the other issue I had that last appointment, they ordered the part for me), so I'll see if I can take out the shop foreman for a coffee run and replicate the issue for him. I'm hoping that if enough of us are complaining about it across North America (I'm in Canada), then Ford will do something to fix it.
I think that the compact and midsize truck market has been way underserved for many years. For a good part of my needs a compact like this would work great. However, I do occasionally tow over 5k lbs. So a compact just wouldn't cut it. Also of note is another reason I like the 1/2 ton I bought is for the comfort and roominess. For short trips around town I prefer my Tesla as it makes more sense but there is nothing like a road trip in a big comfy truck. If I could only have one option and was on a limited budget I would probably go with a compact truck like the Maverick but maybe not the base model. Your videos are entertaining thanks.
Thank You Sam! I've watched a few of your Maverick videos and just put money down to pre order a few weeks ago. Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. 👍👍👍
I have a 4x4 F150 supercrew and love it. To complement it, I'm thinking of getting a hybrid Maverick for a grocery getter and even a highway cruiser when I'm not hauling big things or towing. If I want high gas mileage I don't have to get a little sedan. This thing is priced like a used car! Thanks for the video!
Really well-done video, great job! I think you provided well-reasoned reviews that provided a good mix of objective and subjective factors. Thank you for the review and I'm going to subscribe to your channel. And I agree, you know what they say about guys who need to buy big trucks without a work need. It's the boots that you wear that count.
Sam, I just love you and your way of laying it all out, no mincing of words. Great review, love the Maverick, and nice to know we belong to the same family.
Please accept my thanks for this video. My neighbors are all F-150, Silverado and Ram owners, and they all, for the most part, fit your description of those folks. One thing I did notice, though, is that when gas was pushing the $9.00/gallon mark (I’ll let you guess where I live) those big trucks sat in the driveway or the garage (🤣), which is what sparked my interest in the Maverick. Again, thanks for the review.
I've had my '22 Maverick for about 3 months and the Bluetooth works very well with my Samsung 22 Ultra. It doesn't disconnect at all. I'm getting about 41.5 MPG (a little less with a lot of freeway driving). Overall I really like the truck. I liked my '19 Ranger better but with the current gas prices I'm more than ok with the Maverick as I drive a lot.
My Ford Ranger 2002 is nearly 21 years old, and since being retired for 10 years now, I only drive less then 3,000 mile a year mainly in town driving. So, I'm ready to buy something and I do haul a little like bags of yard soil, mowers and snow blowers, bags of salt for my 100' driveway winter maintenance. I think I'm all in for getting a Maverick, and I do like the extra you did to yours. I like that side color graphics you had done especially. Good luck.
Hell yeah on the Big Truck commentary! I like v8's, I've owned old Ford trucks and El Camino's, but honestly it's not what defines me or speaks to my overall Package! I currently drive a Camry Hybrid and am seriously considering buying a Maverick for the mpg and the practicality. My ego will survive. And yes, if I had the money, I would get a vintage Toyota pickup like the ones I grew up with...
I actually like it.. glad it's been reliable at 10,000 miles my hybrid Maverick XLT was just built 2 weeks ago hopefully will receive it in like 2 or 3 weeks..
Your message at the end about insecure dudes calling the Maverick not a real truck was perfect. My dad was daily driving a sh*tbox Toyota T100, hauling tools and lumber on that little thing for his jobs before he finally got a commercial truck with all those compartments on the side. The Maverick is a vehicle that many people have been asking for including me, and when they're finally readily available and dealers aren't marking them up, I'm gonna get one of these bad boys.
Hey, if I remember right the base curb weight of the Maverick XL is something like 3,700#. There was a motorhome produced for several years that had a built-in office desk as an alternative to bunk beds for the grandchildren. The GCWR of this motorhome was 33,000# which meant it only had a 3,500# dinghy towing limit which puts us outside the jeep wrangler dinghy towing limit even for a stripped-down sport model, even if I remove the back seat and go with the cloth top. Since we don't do any serious off-roading anymore, if I was willing to give up 200# of the motorhomes' OCCC (Occupant Cargo Carrying Capacity) of 3,450#, that makes it easily within range of using the Maverick Hybrid FWD as a Dinghy since for 2022 that combination was listed as GOOD for 4-wheels down towing. The reason that design works is I can carry a couple of spare 20# propane tanks in the bed of the truck and equipped with a hitch receiver I can tow my 25-gallon Blueboy black & gray waste tank at idle speed down to the campground dump station AND carry the Blueboy empty in the back during our RV trip, something you would not have room for in the 2-door jeep anyway. Win-Win. If I still need the jeep, there are plenty of rental places at all of the tourist places where you can take it out for the day. Thanks for the review!!! -Dave
Great ending. I went to the Ford dealership back in 2012 to look at a Ranger. The salesman said, sorry Ford no longer sells Rangers in the US. He said Amercans want bigger trucks. I said, well I'm American. Fast forward ten years.
Enjoyed the review but really enjoyed the comments about the clones who parrot the box frame, towing capability, etc., etc., funny and truthful as well. I loved the original mini trucks back in the 70s and like this as a very good option for those that live in the city/urban heavier traffic/population areas vs the large parts of the country where 2 stop lights are an inconvenience.
Great follow up review. I ordered my Maverick Hybrid in September and I just got a build date for it. I'm hopefully going to get it before Thanksgiving. I also wound up getting my truck in Area 51 like yours since I liked the color a little more than Cactus Grey.
I liked your preachin Sam and you're right. I bought a 2006 Honda Ridgeline back in Jan. 2006 and have loved it and did many 'you can't do that' truck things with it (pull stumps hauled loads of oak logs etc) If I was buying now - and I may for my son - this is what I'd buy. In fact I may order a 2023 XL with the Co-Pilot 360 for him now. Also your video is the first ive seen where you actually tested the hybrid. Everyone else seems to test the 2.0 eco-boost. The hybrid is the one! In 2 wheel drive it'll probably get everywhere on the road with FRONT wheel drive. Normal pickups (I've had those too) in 2wd mode unloaded always peel-out or spin the rear tires easy because the back end is too light to get any good traction - even in light snow. If your not trying to do that it can be frustrating. Not true with FWD.
Great review. I've had mine for 8 months now and I still love it! My one and only complaint it the A pillar blind spot. Its huge and very disconcerting.
When I saw that there wasn't cruise control I instantly wrote is "truck" off. Nope you're not a candidate for a buy. Cruise control is a huge part of my driving style.
This would have been the perfect small truck for my need. The only thing I asked for was power windows and Android Auto. Too bad the dealer had to mark up the price of my preorder from $25k to $38k before tax when it was delivered. I ended up with a Santa Cruz and enjoy it but would have enjoyed a hybrid system.
That would be ridiculous greedy mark up. The Santa C. I am very interested in, higher end interior. They do need some option for increased economy. And available lesser cab, more bed. I dig the grill and lights on the SantaC. Way cool.
I find it interesting that some people have a host of issues with the limited tech package, and others can count on their hand the number of times they had any issue with bluetooth, etc. So I wonder if there was a bad early batch or something.
Wouldn’t be surprised. I‘Ve seen videos showing that the lux package leather steering wheel changed materials at some point, so why not the core radio parts too? Maybe Ford ran out of one older super cheap set of units and had to start using a newer unit. I don’t find the radio as slow as what he showed in this video.
its a perfect truck for most people, its bigger than my nissan hardbody that i had for 10 urs till it got totataled out. i jave paperwork prefilled since Aug 2nd for xl hybrid with tow package wanyed sunroof and rear sliding window but now you cant get them as stand alone options
Good video. Thanks. I see that electrical power is very poorly understood by most people. If you take a standard vehicle and drive it at a constant 30mph you will get fantastic gas mileage and if you drive it at 70mph you will get poorer mileage (the faster the speed the more energy is lost to wind resistance). The reason you get poor milage in city traffic is that it is stop and go, when you accelerate you use a lot of fuel and that energy is lost into your brakes when you stop. You also loose a lot of energy when you are stopped and ideling. How a Hybrid works is that when you accelerate you still use a lot of energy but when you stop the electric motor is turned into a generator and a lot of the lost energy is returned to the battery instead of being lost to the brakes (this creates fuel economy similar to driving a constant low speed). Also the engine shuts down when you are stopped and you use a lot less energy than an ideling engine requires.
Great review video & thank you for sharing your experiences with the Maverick. I presently have three full size/vintage trucks & the Maverick hybrid would really be handy for chasing for parts &running errands. Now I just have to convince my wife that I'm not crazy for wanting four trucks. lol
This pickup is hits the bullseye, when it comes to design. It fits into the needs of most city and urban working class people. In the future car companies will have to limit or abandon alot of the trucks and suvs that are currently being produced, because of their size and carbon footprint. This truck fits somewhere between a medium an compact suv and pickup. Ford looked into the future and has given us a truck design that will last far into the future. It's a shame that because of the current shortages, ford is having problems producing enough Mavericks to suit the needs of customers. Other car companies will be following Ford's lead in the future. They always do.
I like your video. Well produced and seems fair and balanced. I'm here from watching a chassis review video and it didn't really look confidence inspiring. I don't think it would last long in the northern states.
Good review wish I had mine. Ordered in September 2021, in April it was scheduled for build, after 5 delays over 3 months they are now telling me they don't know when I will get it. Honestly, if they open orders for 2023 this month it will not go over well with those of us still waiting on our 2022's (ordered a base model no options XL hybrid)

Mine is ordered, this is the most excited I've been about a new vehicle in 30 years.
Great 10,000 mile review and I agree with your comments about the Maverick trolls. To each his own.
What is bad about the center console vault?
My biggest problem is that it’s a pain to open. These days I don’t bother locking it just because, even if I’m not in a sticky situation where I need to get my gun out in a hurry, it’s just such a hassle.
@@matthewbaker3191 oh ok, that’s unfortunate it is not user friendly. Thanks for the reply!
Probably the best review ever since this vehicle was announced. I was on the fence of ordering a 2023 but I believe I will once the order banks open. Thank you
They are open now
Also had my XLT hybrid for a month (after waiting a year and 10 days) and concur with Sam.
I believe you can add factory cruise control on the XL for about $225
2000lbs towing capacity with hybrid front wheel drive, lots of small cars only 1500lbs but some at 2000ls
Seems like a really nice little run-around. Really appreciated your review - and love the socks & boots! Only a real man could pull those off.
My daily driver is a F150 xlt and just ordered a 2023 XLT Maverick. I'm super excited. I call it the modern day Ranchero. Lol
This couldn’t have came at a better time! Looking at this truck this weekend
I love your NP socks
while I have a silverado and love, I get what the Maverick is about and am glad it exists. the benefits of it are very apparent, and I could see myself being perfectly fine with on as a daily driver....especially filling it at the pump
What was the issue?
We're working on a separate video about the abrupt braking issue
just across your video, 1st I love the wrap, gives that late 70's /80/s feel.
2nd I appreciate the honest review
An honest owner assessment. Kudos. Thank you.
Great review! The Maverick is a vehicle that is so much less of a stretch to afford and you bought the trim a lot of people get. Glad you enjoy yours!
Loved the desert backdrop, it looks just like where I grew up on the Peralta trail!
I've had a Hybrid Maverick Lariat on order since last September- hoping to get delivery soon, wish me luck and keep making great content!
Good on you for calling out insecure truck people.
Got a Maverick 2.0LT great truck and good on gas . Ford is on the right track.
I liked my '19 Ranger better but with the current gas prices I'm more than ok with the Maverick as I drive a lot.
i have one and I love it. I don't have a need for a big truck. the Maverick fits my budget.
11:33 YES 👏🏼YES 👏🏼YES👏🏼…always excited to see the desert washboard road test prove the build quality of whatever Sam tests.
That's a bold lederhosen look.
Good luck.
Based on a chassis review video I just saw, I don't think it's built to last anywhere near as long as the Ranger in our winter salt climates.
I'm really diggin' that retro decal... I just might steal it! You got me back on the fence on hybrid v tremor
Well said about “truck people” at the end of the video. That deserves a like in my book!
I actually like it.. glad it's been reliable at 10,000 miles my hybrid Maverick XLT was just built 2 weeks ago hopefully will receive it in like 2 or 3 weeks..
Awesome Sam《☆》Thanks for the update Brother👍🔊I'm keeping my eye on this one🖖😎☮
The color scheme is awesome
Ordered in November, still anxious to receive mine.
Those graphics are awesome, not my typical style, but they look great with that paint color. Also awesome ideas with the mods, great video!
-Dave
love the honesty, detail, and presentation. Subscribed
I love the paint job! Of course, I mostly listen to John Denver, so there’s that.
Great ending. I went to the Ford dealership back in 2012 to look at a Ranger. The salesman said, sorry Ford no longer sells Rangers in the US. He said Amercans want bigger trucks. I said, well I'm American. Fast forward ten years.
Great review Sam. Was looking for a hybrid sedan- you may have changed my focus. Hope and trust all is going well with you.
Thanks, you too!
🎉😮 love everything absolutely about your information and transformation of your TRUCK ❤
I love this review so much! Love'n my XL and it validates ALL of me feelings about this vehicle. Such a great truck! PRE ORDER YOURS NOW!
Seems like the best new car value on the road today, by far.
Appreciate the washboard road review.
I've been driving a ranger for a while and love it. I'm looking at this xl hybrid for my wife but she can be hard on interiors.
That matched my 2012 toyota prius V in milage ..... I'm impressed
Awesome review. Cant wait to get our 2023 Tremor Maverick.
My complaint at the Auto show, the trucks just keep getting bigger. Most City folk just need a small truck. Parking is such a hassle.
Great follow up review. I ordered my Maverick Hybrid in September and I just got a build date for it. I'm hopefully going to get it before Thanksgiving. I also wound up getting my truck in Area 51 like yours since I liked the color a little more than Cactus Grey.
You ordered last September a year ago? What model did you order ?
@@wannabelikeyou2760 I ordered a Maverick Hybrid XLT with Luxury pkg.
@@DesertMav ah I see. Ya that lux pack causes big delays. Congratulations on a nice truck tho.
Is it a good truck for mostly driving around town hauling odd items driving on soft roads / driving up in the mountains
That navy blue looks nice in there. Kind of reminds me of the interior for the gt90 concept.
All 3 videos are great, personally, I would have got some more rugged looking rims asap, makes it look soo much better.
How is it for carrying a hybrid adult bike in the bed area? Can the bed cover be closed with the bike in it? I like the Maverick but do need cruise.
I’ve seen a few YT videos on an aftermarket cruise system for the Maverick but I’ll not sure if it will void your warranty.
I agree with you! Great value - I want one
Even my motorcycle has cruise control. I will give up a lot, but that will be a must for me. XLT it is then!
Awesome Video Keep Up the great work 👍
Love the video, can't wait for my 2022 July order to finally arrive. I have a question, what boots are you wearing?
its a perfect truck for most people, its bigger than my nissan hardbody that i had for 10 urs till it got totataled out.
i jave paperwork prefilled since Aug 2nd for xl hybrid with tow package
wanyed sunroof and rear sliding window but now you cant get them as stand alone options
Good video.
Really nice review thank you sir
My babysitter from 1987 had a Ford Tempo of the same color interior.
