  • I live for learning off of TH-cam. Here are five things I learned the hard way that TH-cam never mentioned as I learned to change my front and rear tires myself on my 2019 Honda Africa Twin.
    Tools used that I recommend:
    OSBUN Wrench set: amzn.to/3wVqg2d
    Motion Pro Bead Buddy II: amzn.to/3BlP3jp
    Tire Spoons: amzn.to/3wFDu2M
    Rim Protectors I ended up not using like an idiot: amzn.to/3BceOCx
    Valve Core Remover: amzn.to/3wMRnfJ

    Definitely gonna order a set of those spanners! And your right about keeping the tire off the bead when mounting a new one which is always the hardest part for me lol

    Nice.
    Couple of comnents hope you don't mind.
    1 the inflate tube bit. You only inflate slightly to shape the tube insude the tire you then let the air out before continuing.
    2 ALWAYS ALWAYS start and finish euther side of the valve. The last bit to go over is at eitger side of the valve, essential.
    3 never push the lever all the way over, that's the classic pinch mode. Go to just over then push with knee or foot to get the bead over.
    4 only lube the section you are working on. That prevents the bead from coming off the other side as you work round the tire.
    And, use the side stand to break the bead for removal.
    Nice video every bit helps people learn something new.

      Yeah, I'm sure I messed the partially inflate the tube thing up on the front, but that method of installing so the tube lays away from the rim seemed to work as well. The joys of learning as we go I suppose!

    Great instructional video! However, the audio quality suffers in the garage scenes. I suggest investing in better sound capture devices for improved audio. Keep up the good work!

      With a trip from the Seattle area out to Montana for a week on two bikes, it seemed like something I needed to learn how to do. Plus one day I'm gonna make the adventure up to Alaska. Also if you're in the PNW and want a hand, shoot me an email.

    You can use endless ratchet straps to compress the tire and keep them at drop center. Should be small enough to keep in a roadside kit as well.

    Good point, and good to bring light on those as many vids out there gloss over em. I'm curious with that inside the fold deflated tire move, might just try it out, I've always recommended a bit of air and a tire iron wiggle for not pinching tubes. Another point on the drop center trick; This is the main thing that differentiates an easy tire change and a hard one IMO. I focus practically 70% about getting that bead in the "troth" or center and 30% on what the tire irons are working on. It makes a world of a difference the better and the most you get into that. And always good idea to brake clean the F out of the rotor when working with silicone spray or anything else👍🏻 Silicone spray trick has been awesome for myself as of late, curious if it prolongs the life of the tubes now that I've been using it.

      I need to do an updated version of this video... I've been learning so much about tire changes, I'm the go-to at events when people want them done because I actually enjoy doing it. The Baja No-Pinch has been the biggest addition to my tool kit, and I started throwing a tire spoon under the tire at the 6 o'clock close to me to keep the bead from seating as I'm working it back on. I can do a change in like 10/15 minutes now.

      @TallManMoto Glad to hear it! Definitely takes time and persistence to get good at them🤘🏻glad to hear you're learning a lot. Have yet to try the no pinch but it looks like it makes tire changes a breeze. Only part I ever stuggle with / takes too much time is just getting the bead broken need to find a better way for trail side. Not a problem when riding with buddies and can use their kickstand, less than ideal when riding solo and gotta do the rear. Also I know you were doing tubes on the AT, but have you looked at /done many tubeless swaps? Another good skill to brush up on if you like changing others' tires (will keep in mind for glfy 24😉) and a few more tools to ensure you have incase someone needs a hand.

      @@DamonStangherlin tubeless is way easier.... Until you get to setting the bead. That's a bit of a pain in the ass I haven't found any real good tricks to yet; but there has to be ways.

      Another thing I have started doing to keep that bead on the bottom in the center of the rim and keep it from setting is wedge a tire spoon between the two, flip the tire over, and then keep a knee on the top of the tire keeping pressure on that now upside down spoon to keep the bottom bead from setting. It needs its own short video. Immensely helpful discovery.

    Regarding the 'opposite side'.........uh........beading? Before you get the other side over the rim. I destroyed my first rear tire replacement that way (thankfully it was only $50 on sale...but...) and had to buy a full price replacement. I used 2x4 extras that I had lying around to ensure the tire was sitting on those after I got my replacement and the experience was over in *seconds*...i was both pissed and relieved. The 2x4s were on the ground, tire was sitting on those while I used 3 spoons (and tire lube) and it popped on. Keep. The. Bead. In. The. Center. FTLOG!..........

    • @TallManMoto
      @TallManMoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a little annoying how easy it is when you manage to keep that bead in the drop center.

    • @TallManMoto
      @TallManMoto  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Update on things I have learned... I now keep a tire spoon wedged into the tire on the bottom side and it prevents the tire from being able to seat on that underside! A knee on the top and it's such a fast and easy process now.
