Tech chasing is one of the best ways to maximize your damage output in Smash. In this video I go over how to set up tech chases, how to do them, and how to make them better over time.

I love how he uses multiple characters all the time to prove every body can do it, it helps out a lot
Dr Mario be like
There is not a single body that canot (get it? you misspelled "every body")
Yeah it really helps out
I'm going to guess that Min-Min might be a tech-chasing goddess. Might. I dunno. Something about F-Smash covering half of FD gives me that feeling.
Well, so can Simon and Ricter and Corrin and Bayonetta and Mega man and-

Tech chasing is probably one of the coolest things you can do in unltimate. The game becomes litarally who can get in each others heads first. And when you get a read and punish it, it feels so satisfying knowing that you picked a good option and outdid your opponent in that interaction.
Or you can be Jigglypuff and have guaranteed sing setups off of any missed tech or platform techchase
In which case it's hype the first 5 times and lame the rest
Edit: tech read rest/rest confirm are also nuclear
@@skylarfox_bmb Haha, rest.
Or you can play against ness online and the coolest thing is if you have an absorber

Don’t worry Bananaboy! That young link rapid jab u just did was great!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!
Lol
Me at night: Okay time to sleep.
BananaBoy:oh I don't think so.
guess you'll need Gfuel
1:30 there’s something funny about hearing Ganon having a tech situation at any percent
11:14 I thought he was glugging glue as Yoshi mains do
@@Wooly4 can confirm, am an inkling man
1:15 this man just used the Powerpoint Bounce effect.
To all the people wondering where our boy is, on his Twitter he has announced he is taking a nice long break. He has announced since July. Please be patient and give our boy some time, he deserves it after all he has done for us
Thanks for letting me know
Thanks pal, I don’t follow his twitter so I was starting to get concerned. Just want to make sure my man’s all good and well.
thank you i was getting worried that he just vanished
This dude is perfectly teaching me the one skill that I'm missing from this game. Very helpful👌
12:10 I will hold you to that, Banana Boy.
New videos.... ALMOST every Monday!
I think esam mentioned in a video or stream that top players can read the tech based on the opponents DI, if they DI away they'll probably tech away and the DI in means tech in
Thank you Banana Boy!! I have been having issues with tech chasing lately!! This will give me a big edge in the upcoming tournaments I plan to enter!!
I love you bananaboy, every new video I get excited. Part of why I can beat my pr’d friends (online) is because of you so ty
Thanks for the insight on smash man keep it up!!!
I feel bad for people who can't roll read rest, jab lock sing, or plat techchase sing
Puff's techchasing is so priveleged
Melee really helped me understand this idea. I destroy when random gives me Puff now.
@@Pslamist it's even better in ult
Puff main gaaaaaaaaa-
Yo wait what was I on it's easier in ult but you're not gonna kill at 10 for free like in melee, you'd need a really good setup

You always come through for us. I love these videos to refresh fundies
Great video! It’s informative and straight to the point. Also, I’m always happy to hear Kirby music.
i love your sense of humor, please keep the vids coming! :)
I love to once in a full moon tech read a roll out with Hero's fully charged neutral B and get a kill at like 40%. It's awesome and usually when it misses, it makes the opponent like scared as fuck to tech roll away the next time.
Ah, see I try to scare them every blue moon by catching their back roll with a full side B. It rarely works, but when it does? *chef’s kiss*
@@aggressivepianonoises813 have you tried approaching with a short hop and charged side B? Sometimes the opponent drop the shield and take the full thing in they're backs.
Love getting a jab lock or fsmash roll tech if i’m fast enough as mario, you know the opponent is definitely thinking “ i wanna play the game but i can’t ffs”
idk if its just me but so many people talk about tech/di and whatnot but they dont explain what they are in the first place, so thanks for adding that first bit im gonna start trying to tech in games
Your videos are incredibly informative, helpful, and and entertaining! I look forward to every upload, keep up the great work!
Love your guides! Keep going!
Damn this helps especially showing the optimal ways for multiple characters
I've always struggled with tech chasing, which has hurt me on many occasions since Marth gains so much off of them. I have not focused on this enough. I appreciate this video so much, man! Time to become more of a beast.
I feel like a solid part 2 to this would be covering when you should tech or miss-tech and how to be less predictable with your tech options.
The main reason that tech chasing is more common/essential in melee is that there is more hit stun. There are a lot less instances of being able to jump out of a throw or hit.
Crouch canceling and slide offs are the main alternatives
Thanks for another informative video!!!
Bananaboy's channel deserves so many more subscribers, he has amazing content.
Thank you Banana Boy
I'm so glad you got sponsored by gamer juice, that's pretty pog. Love your videos, learn a lot when I watch them!
This is a super good video, but i still wanna add some things.
1. If your opponent is at ledge, there are many instances that you can cover all options because their techroll out will be shortened because of the ledge. This is specifically good with charachters that are already goood at covering multiple options at once, like Donkey Kong with his down-b and many downsmashes, so this is a good thing to look out for to get your opponent in an even worse position then they already are.
2. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS MIX YOUR OPTIONS UP. This is pretty obvious, but it was'nt mentioned in the video so i wanted to add this. it's good to think of it as just random, just randomly go for an option, this is the most optimal way to do this in my opinion, and it also does'nt require as much brain power as getting into complex mindgames.
3. Also keep track of what your opponent likes to do after their option of choise. There are some opponents that, say, always first tech in place and then techroll out, obviously not all opponents have such a pattern, but it's definetly a thing to look out for.
With that said, i think this is a super good video covering the basics of tech-chasing. Great work as always!
Super nice video!
The hand drawn joystick at 0:25 is pure art.
bananaboy is the only yoshi main im able to respect
thanks this will really help
As a Lucas main, this was really helpful. PK Fire covers a lot of tech options, and if I'm in position, jab lock into down Smash kills ridiculously early
I like the use of Kirby music in this vid, this gets a like by me just for that(also cause the info given was good)
2:05 nope jump comes out frame 3 and i love your videos keep up the good work
Nice job
Yay I finally know what teching is
Just a quick note for 6:20 in the video: the less than symbol is *
hey bananaboy do you have a video coming soon? I really love your content and have improved greatly from your channel.
I still can’t believe how much your channel has grown! I’ve been here since 15k and I must say that it has been a joy to see your channel grow more and more popular! May you three stock all that you come across, god bless!
5:55 I'd say this is true for the reason that since you were anticipating it, you only have to recognize that it is happening, while if you weren't anticipating it, you would need to recognize it and figure out what to do.
12:10 its been 2 weeks with no new upload, i cant wait to see carpet yoshi
There’s some nasty stuff going on in the smash community, so that might be why he hasn’t uploaded.
@@HankTank81 he's just taking a break
Banana is ALIVE AGAIN
You should make a guide on Attack Canceling and RARs. (Reverse Aerial Rush) Many newer and mid-level players, (like myself I guess), struggle with mastering RARs and Attack Canceling, so it would be cool if you showed your thoughts and tips on it.
I love how all these smash tutorials, while very helpful, are so simple in execution.
Moral of the story: Git Gud Kid 😎
good music choice
Dude your videos are so amazing. The editing is godlike. I just wish you would make a video on something completely random (not smash, more like, making a hot dog) but with the same style of editing, I would laugh my ass off, or at least a cheek.
Also it's not called carpet yoshi, it's crusty yoshi.
I would love to see a video about tournament stages!
yeessssssss, techasing is so important in this game, especially compared to smash 4
Great video! Super helpful in many ways. Please excuse me while I shit on it slightly.
Melee's tech chasing is easier for other reasons in addition to those listed:
More vulnerable frames on techs
Faster character movement
Lower end lag after throws/moves
Higher gravity/longer hitstun forcing techs more often
Lower buffer allowing easier reactions
Generally worse/slower tech rolls for many characters
Lack of buffered airdodge/aerials to escape hitstun
I would say memorizing the tech patterns of the top tiers, while a relevant point, matters far less when explaining why tech chasing is so prevalent in melee. It comes down to reaction more than prediction/option selecting though there are some characters that can cover many options at once (falcon side b). This makes tech chasing more consistent and widely available across characters, making it a better strategy in melee vs ultimate.
Im definitely gonna try to show some friends these videos. They don't help me that much cuz I've been competitive for 6 years, but I think these videos are brilliant for bringing mediocre players to actually good.
Thanks
Good background music :D
superb video i like it very much love you
Nah m8 that rob tech chase was amazing
I love his video its funny and explanitory

As an Incin main, I can actually do a lot of things by dealing with tech chases and rolls/spotdodges. Neutral-b makes his arms invincible and while doing that, you can drift foward or backwards to safely punish a roll. To punish a getup attack, you can do a shorthop and do side-b a little early, like right before the peak of the shorthop and then you get the command grab and then you can alola whip their asses.
You can go wild with up-b because of super armor on startup, and the fact you can go through platforms/ledges and angle it so you can optimize everything for most damage and surprises. Many people didn't know you can do that and they think they can always punish his up-b >:3
Well they can but you can really shmix someone up.
Hope your feeling good banana guy (:
Great video! Keep up the good work but don't work too hard!
Please do Reverse Aerial Rush and instant back air. Plus combo examples.
Hey, where are you?
Damn he better upload I’m not about to see carpet Yoshi for a month. The abomination
Could I ask for a video on how and when to use grabs? I have more problems dealing with grabs and using them than most other problems.
That planet earth joke was great
Yo our boy got a Gfule sponsorship
Nice

I hope gimir watches this video and educates him on just get-up attacking.
Ayyye pride banana boy!
I didn’t even know you can tech after getting hit😳
Flare Blitz, whenever you feel like it.
"Specifically the ones that go 'boom boom'."
I’ll still go for those hard read rest when I send someone near ledge
so its been more than 2 weeks.......
Tech chase is my favourite mechanic in all smash, it feels so rewarding getting 0-90+ percent or a kill by not letting your opponent breath.
So satisfying to body someone that’s camping and not approaching at all. big fuck you to them. They usually always tech away being so afraid of conflict and all.
Tip: roy can side be twice if the opponent misses a tech than for for a read with fsmash to kill
What’s the next tournament you are going to
5:03 OPTIMAL
Does tech chasing apply to RoA? I've been getting into that game more recently and I'm wondering if this kind of stuff converts over smoothly. I know stuff like RAR and, well, teching does, but what about other things like tech chasing, baits, and ledge trapping.
It’s carpet yoshi time
2:01 No! This isn't how you're supposed to play the game
Underrated
I had no idea you could tech Ganon side b
mom but gfuel will help me learn- nO JIMMY
Thats for all the guides bro YOU DESERVE 10000000 SUBS, im beating my brothers a** now
But i need a nintendo switch to play ult i only got 4 for now
Cool
the more I watch these videos, the more I realize that smash is 80% mind games

It's been 4 months a new banana boy community post is due
Which things should we be focusing on during our matches?
It’s been a while since he posted a video, is all ok?
I’m thinking of getting a switch and I just wanted to know if you can actually cancel your initial Dash into any grounded move like jabs or tilts.. Because like, it looks like he’s only doing it out of Run
If you press down you can cancel your dash into any move
It doesn’t interrupt your initial dash unless it’s a jump (so aerials or aerial special moves) or an upsmash but it’ll come out as soon as your initial dash ends
My favourite character to tech chase with is Gannondorf and his side B
Hello there. Which do you think are Yoshi's best/worst match-ups?
