Tech chasing is probably one of the coolest things you can do in unltimate. The game becomes litarally who can get in each others heads first. And when you get a read and punish it, it feels so satisfying knowing that you picked a good option and outdid your opponent in that interaction.
Or you can be Jigglypuff and have guaranteed sing setups off of any missed tech or platform techchase In which case it's hype the first 5 times and lame the rest Edit: tech read rest/rest confirm are also nuclear
To all the people wondering where our boy is, on his Twitter he has announced he is taking a nice long break. He has announced since July. Please be patient and give our boy some time, he deserves it after all he has done for us
idk if its just me but so many people talk about tech/di and whatnot but they dont explain what they are in the first place, so thanks for adding that first bit im gonna start trying to tech in games
The main reason that tech chasing is more common/essential in melee is that there is more hit stun. There are a lot less instances of being able to jump out of a throw or hit. Crouch canceling and slide offs are the main alternatives
This is a super good video, but i still wanna add some things. 1. If your opponent is at ledge, there are many instances that you can cover all options because their techroll out will be shortened because of the ledge. This is specifically good with charachters that are already goood at covering multiple options at once, like Donkey Kong with his down-b and many downsmashes, so this is a good thing to look out for to get your opponent in an even worse position then they already are. 2. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS MIX YOUR OPTIONS UP. This is pretty obvious, but it was'nt mentioned in the video so i wanted to add this. it's good to think of it as just random, just randomly go for an option, this is the most optimal way to do this in my opinion, and it also does'nt require as much brain power as getting into complex mindgames. 3. Also keep track of what your opponent likes to do after their option of choise. There are some opponents that, say, always first tech in place and then techroll out, obviously not all opponents have such a pattern, but it's definetly a thing to look out for. With that said, i think this is a super good video covering the basics of tech-chasing. Great work as always!
I think esam mentioned in a video or stream that top players can read the tech based on the opponents DI, if they DI away they'll probably tech away and the DI in means tech in
5:55 I'd say this is true for the reason that since you were anticipating it, you only have to recognize that it is happening, while if you weren't anticipating it, you would need to recognize it and figure out what to do.
I love to once in a full moon tech read a roll out with Hero's fully charged neutral B and get a kill at like 40%. It's awesome and usually when it misses, it makes the opponent like scared as fuck to tech roll away the next time.
@@aggressivepianonoises813 have you tried approaching with a short hop and charged side B? Sometimes the opponent drop the shield and take the full thing in they're backs.
Love getting a jab lock or fsmash roll tech if i’m fast enough as mario, you know the opponent is definitely thinking “ i wanna play the game but i can’t ffs”
I've always struggled with tech chasing, which has hurt me on many occasions since Marth gains so much off of them. I have not focused on this enough. I appreciate this video so much, man! Time to become more of a beast.
I still can’t believe how much your channel has grown! I’ve been here since 15k and I must say that it has been a joy to see your channel grow more and more popular! May you three stock all that you come across, god bless!
Great video! Super helpful in many ways. Please excuse me while I shit on it slightly. Melee's tech chasing is easier for other reasons in addition to those listed: More vulnerable frames on techs Faster character movement Lower end lag after throws/moves Higher gravity/longer hitstun forcing techs more often Lower buffer allowing easier reactions Generally worse/slower tech rolls for many characters Lack of buffered airdodge/aerials to escape hitstun I would say memorizing the tech patterns of the top tiers, while a relevant point, matters far less when explaining why tech chasing is so prevalent in melee. It comes down to reaction more than prediction/option selecting though there are some characters that can cover many options at once (falcon side b). This makes tech chasing more consistent and widely available across characters, making it a better strategy in melee vs ultimate.
As a Lucas main, this was really helpful. PK Fire covers a lot of tech options, and if I'm in position, jab lock into down Smash kills ridiculously early
You should make a guide on Attack Canceling and RARs. (Reverse Aerial Rush) Many newer and mid-level players, (like myself I guess), struggle with mastering RARs and Attack Canceling, so it would be cool if you showed your thoughts and tips on it.
So satisfying to body someone that’s camping and not approaching at all. big fuck you to them. They usually always tech away being so afraid of conflict and all.
As an Incin main, I can actually do a lot of things by dealing with tech chases and rolls/spotdodges. Neutral-b makes his arms invincible and while doing that, you can drift foward or backwards to safely punish a roll. To punish a getup attack, you can do a shorthop and do side-b a little early, like right before the peak of the shorthop and then you get the command grab and then you can alola whip their asses. You can go wild with up-b because of super armor on startup, and the fact you can go through platforms/ledges and angle it so you can optimize everything for most damage and surprises. Many people didn't know you can do that and they think they can always punish his up-b >:3 Well they can but you can really shmix someone up.
Im definitely gonna try to show some friends these videos. They don't help me that much cuz I've been competitive for 6 years, but I think these videos are brilliant for bringing mediocre players to actually good. Thanks
When someone hits the ground and the special effect is red, that means it's untechable. When it is green, you can tech but you should always tech anyway unless you want to keep a distance away from your oppenent.
Dude your videos are so amazing. The editing is godlike. Also it's not called carpet yoshi, it's crusty yoshi.
I’m thinking of getting a switch and I just wanted to know if you can actually cancel your initial Dash into any grounded move like jabs or tilts.. Because like, it looks like he’s only doing it out of Run
It doesn’t interrupt your initial dash unless it’s a jump (so aerials or aerial special moves) or an upsmash but it’ll come out as soon as your initial dash ends
The best part about smash bros is that it requires a little bit of physical skill and dexterity, and the rest of the game is based on mind games like this
learning to exploit tech-chase and building you own tech-chase flow chart is one of the easiest and fastest way to improve your conversion. Suddenly your punish game become more rewarding because you rack new damages you weren't thinking about before and new last hit opportunities arise.
