There are a few more new manuscript pages to find as Saga: Three parts of the dark poem which is the same poem you find written on the wall at the murder scenes as Alan. There's a page you can find at the Sheriff Station in chapter "Scratch" that describes what happened at the Lake house and also a page you can find on the way to the shore in "Summoning" that describes Ahti taking the water from the lake and pouring it on the floor in the Writers Room
The dialogue between Alice and Alan in the ending is the same as the dialogue between Barbara and Zane in the movie Nightless Night. Alice & Barbara: "At last." Wake & Zane: "Thank you, my love."
@@andikaramadhan The movie Nightless Night plays at the Poet's Cinema after you get to the murder site at that location while playing as Alan. Later, you can watch it using a TV in the Writer's Room, it gets added to the list of collectibles as you exit the cinema.

I seriously think Tom and Alan are the same person in the normal world but in parallel realities (universes) and overlapping timelines. The Dark Place is an overlap that connects them and that’s why they see eachother, though the time doesn’t work there as we’re used to in the real world. There is just so much evidence. The deja vu parts, the many worlds quote at the very end and the theory by Darling, the many faces and for example the fact that there are Tom’s books in Alan’s apartment in the dark place! It’s fascinating, really.
I am honestly really happy that Alan got a Happy Ending. But still, the story around the Dark Place surely isn't over yet, considering Darling is captured there. Maybe this will be important for Control 2.
I was really hoping that the DLC's will resolve everything but i guess Remedy is going for Alan Wake trilogy :( another 13 years of waiting *cries hard*
I don't think Darling is captured. Considering he "died" and is in another plane of existence (given that he can communicate with Jesse through the Hotline), he's just there too, just like Saga (Door complaining to Alan that he pulled Saga into the story; same principle with Darling). But with the DLCs coming (the one involving the FBC), this game will nurture the future Remedy games for sure.
Ok so how about Alice she still trap in the dark place so Alan and her never reunited with Alan and the it says she only went In to guide Alan but Alan escaped in the final draft so what now for Alice? will she meet with Tim breaker and both come together to find out who Mr.door I still need to understand every bit of the game.
Man, good lookin' out. I literally finished the game about three days ago. Was just about to play the NG+ today but my cats ripped the flatscreen off the wall last night and smashed it into a million pieces. The most upsetting part was that I wasn't going to get to see the new scenes or the final ending of AW2. You have done me a real kindness here. Thanks, dude.
ilkka plays both wake and zane's physical character, poretta does the voice of wake and zane, and entirely plays the character of darling. there is 100% going to be something very significant about all this and i'm excited to find it.
Tom Zane is voiced by Ilkka Villi himself not Poretta. But yes, I'm sure all these voicing games will play a huge role in the future. Personally I believe that whole Alan's story is Zane's attempt to get out from the dark place. @@petexn7573
@@petexn7573Matt is young Zane, James Mcaffery voices the older Zane and it’s unlikely that Zane the Film Director is Zane, it’s Scratch. Casey himself says that a Director wants to control every aspect of the world in his films, just like how Scratch/The Dark Presence wants to control reality. Secondly, Zane in Room 665 dances to The Happy Song the same way Scratch does, and wears the same wedding ring Scratch has around his neck as well as wearing a deconstructed, 70s version of Scratch’s AWAN outfit. This might be why The Dark Presence hit so angry and desperate by AW2 - it’s been forced to pretend to be someone else and be killed by the person it hates the most over and over and over until they can escape, which must’ve been incredibly painful for a being that craves praise and attention.
I was a drunk and a drug addict for years.. I've been clean for a while now.. This game, in part, seems an allegory for fighting addiction.. The revelation at the end, that it is not a loop, it is in fact a spiral, is a revelation that many cured addicts can attest to.. Along with the strange, dark and ominous journey that Alan has gone through, this too is very much juxtaposed with fighting demons within.. A more poetic display of this war, I have not seen in this medium.. Bravo...
It's implied throughout both games that Alan was struggling with drinking and was emotionally and mentally unstable. The first game credit song is 'War' by Poets of the Fall; AW2 uses their song 'Heros and Villians'. The game draws a lot of parallels between struggling with mental health and Alan's journey through what turns out to be his own inner darkness.

Quite literally, the first game's narrative is based on writer's block, both literally where Remedy was trying to follow up on their Max Payne success just like Alan tries to follow up his Alex casey books, but also how the dark place restrains creativity and prevents cohesive ideas and narratives from forming. Both American nightmare and 2 work within spirals, just like drafts of a creative work where small incremental changes per draft can eventually turn the end product almost unrecognizable from the first draft. Many creative people, like Alan, try to brute-force their blocks and creativity through drugs and alcohol, leading into addiction. And Most, if not all, creatives struggle with their own self-doubt and mental issues. Drugs and alcohol eventually become a crutch and take over, turning what should be art into a means to feed the addiction, very similar to how the dark place feeds of creativity for its own ends. Even Coffee, while a legal stimulant, is still technically a drug and that plays a large role in these games too. As a writer myself, I love Alan Wake for having so many layers to it. Many times analysis on works feels like they come from nowhere, but at least here the connection with writing and addiction feel solid because so much is implied in the games themselves.

All wrapped up in a stunningly gorgeous game with the best rock album this side of 1986. Sam Lake and the writing team at Remedy put love, sweat, and sisu into AW2.

Glad you posted this, Tor and Odin bugged out for me and just stood there. thought it was weird but now I see they were actually supposed to talk to me. Also there's another Darling video where Zane finds him and convinces darling to collaborate with him. I think there's 3 total based on the TV menu in the writing room but I only found 2 of them.
They're only supposed to talk on the last loop through, right before you leave. It might be a bug that theyre standing there early. I had the exact same thing happen. The collaboration video is found when exiting the hotel on the first floor after completing everything. Inside the first room you need to stand in to trigger the first echo.
"The master of two worlds. No, the master of many worlds". I see that is a reference to Joseph Campbell "Hero's Journey", where at the end of Return, the Hero comes back "with wisdom or spiritual power over both worlds".

The original ending basically says that the suicide thing was a lie - that she needed Alan to believe it so that he could complete his journey so that he could (in her words) "ascend". I believe it's her voice that tells Saga where to find the shoebox with the clicker and light bullet.
Incredible, there is so much to uncover, but still this game felt whole. Can't wait to understand more. I want to know how Jesse is doing, how this entangles with AW 2, what Alan will do, what about Tor and Odin, and Alice, and Mr Door with the sheriff... wow, there's seriously a lot of a lot.
As set up in Quantum Break, there are “Shifters”. Those that can exist in many dimensions at once, in a superposition. Despite QB not belonging to Remedy, its clear with a few name swaps they are able to continue that story and include it in the Remedyverse. With that being said we know who our “Shifters” are, some are more powerful and capable than others, and a few are what Martin Hatch/Warlin Door called “Unwilling Disciples”. Breaker/Joyce, Faden/Wilder, Wake/Zane, Hatch/Door, Saga, and maybe even Casey/Payne are all shifters in one form or another.
If you read the white board by Tim Breaker. It mentions a Red Headed woman that he knows but not sure from where. This is a direct link to Jesse Faden from Control whose Actor also plays Beth Hope from Quantum Break Who is directly related to Jack Joyce whose Actor is the same as Tim Breaker. This shows that QB is in the same multiverse as Alan Wake and Control and the supernatural stuff makes the worlds bleed into each other with different version of the same person split across the multiverse.
There more differences. In the elevator to Alan's Apartment you find a photo from Alice, for example. Every video thar mentions loop has "loop" changed for "espiral". I still replaying, but maybe there's more.
There are tons of little bits here and there. Many people will miss because they just will skip all the cutscenes to see the new ending. So many little details that put you in Saga and Alan's shoes trying to figure out what is happening and trying to fix their cloudy broken memory loops.
Very VERY subtle little things like Saga finding the heart in the freezer "This all feels familiar" type sentences. It's like her memory is fuzzy and displaces and second guesses herself a few times. Just small little details like that. Which are neat, but idk about another 20 hour playthrough neat.

Im convinced that mr door is the prince of darkness referenced in the game cause tim mentions him being struck by lightning, and theres a manuscript of tor and odin lashing it out with a prince of darkness who gets struck by lightning.

The Prince / Herald of Darkness is Scratch (the bringer of The Dark Presence, the alias and vessel it uses to spread itself across reality) Mr. Door is Saga’s dad. Him and Tor has issues (Tor could likely sense Door was a paranatual entity that seems less than kind) and did something that caused literal lightning to strike him down and cast him out of reality. “The Faraway Father” Dr. Campbell created as a doll is very clearly meant to be Mr. Door, and his description of “The Faraway Father did keep an eye on our Hero” matches up. Door claims Wake “brought someone important to him” into the story, and Door explains his family can traverse reality as they like, explaining how Saga can twist The Dark Place and navigate it while Alan insists on writing his way through it.
There is another Darling video as you're leaving the hotel that is pretty significant. I've seen a third one online but I'm pretty sure that one is datamined/leaked from the dlc. I did for sure find a second one IN GAME in the hotel lobby as I was leaving.
Man, if we don’t get some closure on Alice and Barry I think I’ll cry lmao. Other than that I think this really did a nice job tying off plot threads! Maybe we’ll get some answers in a new control game if Remedy doesn’t want to make a new Alan Wake game (understandably, they do a lot to close things out here and seem to confirm Alan is Out of the dark place, so any follow up would need to work from a premise where Alan isn’t being manipulated by it, if they want to continue using him in the story. At the same time, Alan Writes in trilogies, so there’s still a possibility for a third installment)
So... Wake became a Shifter like Door/Hatch? I think Darling, Zane and Wake were different versions of a single person from different dimensions that now merged into one single creature existing in all worlds at once, like Door/Hatch.
I reckon the next game will feature Alan facing off against Warlin Door in some form because the last interaction Alan had with him, Warlin said "The next time we meet, circumstances will be very different." Warlin is able to travel to many worlds, and now, so can Alan.
I still find it funny that Saga talks to Alan about how his story isn’t his, then talks about how heros need sacrifice, proceeds to get everything she wants then leaves the whole negative bill on Alan, even shooting him in the head. The worst she suffered was some bad feelings.
@@MMehdi-he4uo I believe it was Scratch (the Dark Presence) who did that. Also, im pretty sure Saga's daughter drowned before and she used her power to stay in denial as Tor and Odin both reference it as happening.
@@Jonathan2342 Scratch *is* Alan. Like the whole story is about how Scratch is his insecurities made manifest. Mr. Door talks about how Alan is "insisting" on going through convoluted rules 'cause that's what all of this is. It's always been Alan. He's the tortured artist, tortured by himself. The Dark Place merely lets himself do that 'cause it works to its advantage. This is why Saga fared a lot better against it. She knew she didn't need to build up convoluted rules, and all she had to do was confront her insecurities and push forward. Alan believes in the journey, and that's why he needed Inititation to get him through. It's literally all in the text of the game, I dunno why I'm needed to explain this.
Thanks, you save me from playing all again just to see the "true ending". I get it the purporse of this, like Wake it's in a spiral and and playing the NG+ it's like part of this spiral haha. I think not just me, but a lot of people that finishid the game felt the ending was not complete, now we've know Logan is alive and things worked. Whtat I understand from this end is that Wake got out of the dark place, and Dr. Darling was sent there. I just dont know what it means "I'm master of many worlds".
@@JustJDxThat writer’s room was the one in the nursing home opened by Ahti, not the one in the Dark Place. Saga left the Dark Place and ended up in the real world with Alan and Scratch (Casey) using Ahti’s puddle, or so it’s implied she came back using his puddle anyways.
I'm not a genius, but basically the master of many worlds is referring to quantum physics, more specifically how many people think the reasonable way to interpret quantum physics is that every time something is done, it creates many alternate realities where something slightly, or very different happened. This ties into the thing he was saying about time how in the future there are version of him making him jump through these hoops to get to a certain point in the future. Of course the real question is who created who, how is darling connected to tom and alan, etc. This is all too complicated for my little brain, I will let someone smarter and more attentive figure it out! :D
@@KytexEdits I got "Many Worlds" as the other Remedy games, they were all diferent histories that Alan wrote in the Dark Place, using Control to connect them all, that's how he'd knew about Jesse and everything else.
Can someone explain me how everyone knows Darling is trapped inside the Dark Place, and how you're all so sure thar was Tom who created Alan? Remember that there is a poster in Ahti presentation in Watery that states that Tom's real name is actually Tom Seine, Alan maybe confused and changed his name to "Zane" while was in the Dark Place, since the time in the Dark Place is not the same as in our world, the writing of Alan Wake managed to reach Alan from another world and another timelane, just like happened to Saga and Casey since they were real in another world, with that said, The Dark Presence reached him through his dreams... Its confused but i think you guys will sort all of this! Trust me on this: Alan is Tom from another world, and Alice is Barbara from another world. Both of them are the same, dont trust on Tom The Cineast, since he was created, just like Tom The Diver and Tom Zane The Poet, the only one that true remains, is Tom Seine, even the Lady Of The Light, which previously was Cyntia Weaver, never call Tom as "Zane", but always as TOM ! We are Tom, Alan and maybe... Even Darling! Cause in the end, it begins with a dream!

Remember what Dylan said to Jesse Fayden in Control about Door: "In a world, a writer writes about a cop, but in another world, the cop was real..." Alan Writes and people are dragged into the story, just like happened with Saga and even Door, thats why he said to Alan: "You keep opening doors, dragging everyone into your story"
Tom The Poet and Tom The Diver are one in the same and are canon, The House of Dreams ARG confirms it. Basically, Samantha Wells finds The Shoebox and inside are photos of Zane and Barbara diving on their boat and poems written by Zane either while outside or whilst inside The Dark Place. Considering everything out in the shoebox is not affected by AWEs, and is therefore the real or true version of an item, it confirms Zane was a diver and poet. We know Tom didn’t “create” Alan, but he used him, created a story about a writer taken by a Dark Presence to write about himself (Zane) to free him. However, due to Alan being a parautilitarian, it would seem that he was able to start writing his own way through the story, and as a result they are sort of stuck writing each other. Darling is definitely stuck in The Dark Place as in his second message he meets The Film Director version of Zane, who wants to collaborate with him. This is basically the final nail in the coffin to me that Film Director Zane is Mr. Scratch/The Dark Presence. They both dance the same way to The Happy Song and Zane wears a 70s disco version of Mr. Scratch’s suit, and also wears a wedding ring identical to Scratch’s around his neck. This Zane collaborating with seemingly anyone he finds in The Dark Place suggests to me that The Dark Presence pretended to be this version of Zane and wrote him into reality in order to manipulate anyone who goes into The Dark Place into writing him out and into reality, so that The Dark Presence can escape into reality.
I love this game but I’m still so confused. Did Alan create The Dark Presence when he was shot? Was The Dark Presence always part of him along with Alice before AW1 and then it was separated? Or was he missing his two halves, and now they have been joined together for Alan to become what he is now. I also have a theory that “The Master of Many Worlds” is meant to imply that we keep seeing Matthew Porretta as different characters in The Remedyverse because he’s like, split between them, he’s Alan, Darling, and the true Thomas Zane (Matt voices young Zane at the end of AW1 when you hear him cut out Barbara’s heart) Speaking of Zane, I think i understand who was writing who? To escape The Dark Place, Zane wrote about Alan Wake, guiding him through his life. Then, when Alan is taken into The Dark Place to write Departure, he begins writing Zane and himself, like how Saga broke away from the story Alan had written.
So right now my theory stands. Alan wake created Jesse from control to come get him out of lake. (Which was more or less spelled out during the AWE dlc from control) What was confusing me was why abandoned that plan for this one? But this now makes sense the dark presence was tied to him in scratch. He could be pulled from the lake but the lake would come with him as we saw. He stopped writing because he realized this. Zane worked with scratch to create return trying to go over Alan head. alan rewrote that story and used to it create separation which he accomplished thanks to Alice and sage. He is now separated, enlightened, and still powerful. Able to use the power without being its vessel. Now he can finish the control story (control 2). Use Casper to bridge the gap and bring a fully realized Jesse in to actual fight and seal the darkness and fully free him from the lake. (Alan wake 3: Controlled wake)
Definitely possible. The AWE DLC suggests he was testing Jesse for something, and it clearly wasn't the events of Alan Wake 2 since she never made an appearance and it's Saga that freed him. It makes me wonder if the Alan Wake in AWE is actually a version of Alan that's AFTER the events of Alan Wake 2 - an Alan that is now the master of the Dark Place instead of a prisoner of it as that what seems to be suggested before it goes black. That Alan has beaten the Dark Presence and gained the ability to affect all the realities.
Hasn’t “Hedron” merged with Jesse now? Isnt that why the HRAs didn’t stop working even with Hedron being destroyed becaused the HRAs are using Jesse as the new source?
I have the felling that the next game will be about Thomas Zane and Alice in the darks place, maybe Thor and Odin and of course Saga and Alan wake, and hopefully we have more information about Tim andJesse or Dylan Faden or the FBC in general.
@@virenrana6459 The first time Alan goes into Parliament Tower in NG+, he finds one of Alice's photos on the floor of the elevator, of himself with the bullet of light in his forehead. I never found any other references to that photo later in the game though, even though it's in your inventory the rest of the game.
A lot of this, if not all, should have been in the first ending. I felt quite a disappointment in it before. There are still some ruff edges but this is actually an ending I can get behind.
i have a question, if Tom created Alan (i personally don't subscribe to this theory but it's a valid theory nonetheless) why Warlin Door is taking so much interest in Alan? shouldn't Door taking interest in Tom? i think that Tom is Allan from an alternate reality since the dark place exist between the infinite different realities and Alan mastered or the very least understood how to navigate it by using his art unlike Tom who is still stuck.
I think Tom is another aspect of Scratch/ the Dark Place. I also feel like the Tom Zane/Mr. Scratch scenes debunk that American Nightmare isn't canon. In the first game, Thomas Zaine created Mr. Scratch so he could take Alan's place in the real world, but the Dark Prescence hijacked Mr. Scratch and Mr. Scratch wasn't able to leave. Alan was working on a much earlier draft of Return in American Nightmare where Alan created Mr. Scratch as his alter-ego based on the tabloid rumors and all the negative aspects of Alan. However, his physical form was destroyed and Alan managed to get a glimpse of Alice's artwork dedicated to him before he was sent back into the spiral. Even his clothes in that game, which embody the positive memories with Alice, is what he wears in AW2. Then in the Control AWE DLC, we see Tom Zane and Alan Wake in the Ocean View hotel, where Tom looks just like Alan as they go over the dialogue in their first scene together about working together. As Jesse wasn't affected by the Dark Place's visions, she could see Zane for how he really was. Either that or, this is another earlier version of the spiral where they didn't look finalized. Just like writing drafts of a story, slowly improving with each draft. Then in Alan Wake 2, that prior scene features the Happy Song from Poets of the Fall, which was associated with Mr. Scratch in American Nightmare. And when Alan was back in reality he was wearing his light pleasant memory clothes until Mr. Scratch took over. Zane also pulls the same trick on Darling on saying he'll work with him, but really its to his own ends. Zane also seems to have some control over the dark place. We know that Scratch, using Alan, can write his own stories and change reality. He probably took over the original Thomas Zaine, changed him into Tom Zane and from poet to filmmaker, in order to further his ends. I also saw some theories that Thomas was Loki, the third band member of the Old Gods of Asgard who disappeared in 1972, but "Fat" Bob Balder is the third member in Alan Wake 2. So who knows with that connection. We don't know what the DLC has in store, but I don't think the Dark Place has given up, Alice's rescue feels set up for a third game more than DLC. But who knows. Saga, Wake, Casey, Tor, Odin are still in the Dark Place. We can only wait.
@@kallemort Casey and Alan were in the displaced town, that was stated to be a piece of the dark place that would slowly encapsulate the rest of the world. So that whole segment was separated from reality. Saga was still in the Dark Place through Cauldron Lake. She Astral-projected herself into Alan's writer's room, just like how Alan Astral projected himself into the fictional New York. The end of the game shows them in the writer's room, which is the closest to a physical space in the Dark Place as you can get. The door in the nursing home seems to be merely a portal, which is why Ahti guards it. It is stated in every game that radio signals, manuscript pages, and some other methods of communication can slip through the dark place, that includes cell phones, especially when written into reality.
we dont know exactly. at the final of control, he was exposed to a lot of the polaris ressonance, that changed him, and he just vanished, implying he's in another dimension, maybe one of the portals of the slide projector. could be the darkplace, or a space between dimensons.
Where the fk else would he be? On another video you can find he's talking to Thomas Zane who is himself trapped in the dark place. In this video he is hearing Wake's voice and says that he believes it's what's holding the dimension together.

Thank you for this upload so I can enjoy the real ending without playing the game once more. I love Remedy's games (I finished Control multiple times in all difficulties) but this one went too far into the "slow ass gameplay & very weak heros" that it completely put me off going though those horrible fight sequences again. REMEDY YOU ARE NOT CAPCOM STOP TRYING TO MAKE A RESIDENT EVIL COPY CAT. Alan Wake I had mode balanced fighting scenes (but a bit too much of them) and Control is just perfect is all aspects - Story telling, genius gameplay and rythm.
Yeah considering that they’re at old age. In the dark place, you don’t die. So makes sense they decided to stay, they still have a role to play into the story and only their old age hinders them but the dark place locks their age.

Doesn't this mean that Alice is still trapped in the dark place? It says she killed herself by throwing herself into the lake, which I took to mean that she was trapped in the dark place with Alan. I feel like she deserves a happy ending as well

I'm honestly disapointed in this The low ammount of changes really doesn't make the new ending worth it, it makes playing through the game again boring outside of finding the limited ammount of new content...There's just 13 minutes worth of new content (a bit more if we missed a few things) And the new ending doesn't make sense cuz of it...What CHANGED for the new ending to be possible? From what we know the story's the same, it ends the same way except Alan remembers everything at the last moment...So why does it stop the Spiral?

There are a few more new manuscript pages to find as Saga: Three parts of the dark poem which is the same poem you find written on the wall at the murder scenes as Alan. There's a page you can find at the Sheriff Station in chapter "Scratch" that describes what happened at the Lake house and also a page you can find on the way to the shore in "Summoning" that describes Ahti taking the water from the lake and pouring it on the floor in the Writers Room
The dialogue between Alice and Alan in the ending is the same as the dialogue between Barbara and Zane in the movie Nightless Night.

I seriously think Tom and Alan are the same person in the normal world but in parallel realities (universes) and overlapping timelines. The Dark Place is an overlap that connects them and that’s why they see eachother, though the time doesn’t work there as we’re used to in the real world. There is just so much evidence. The deja vu parts, the many worlds quote at the very end and the theory by Darling, the many faces and for example the fact that there are Tom’s books in Alan’s apartment in the dark place! It’s fascinating, really.
I am honestly really happy that Alan got a Happy Ending. But still, the story around the Dark Place surely isn't over yet, considering Darling is captured there. Maybe this will be important for Control 2.
I was really hoping that the DLC's will resolve everything but i guess Remedy is going for Alan Wake trilogy :( another 13 years of waiting *cries hard*
I don't think Darling is captured. Considering he "died" and is in another plane of existence (given that he can communicate with Jesse through the Hotline), he's just there too, just like Saga (Door complaining to Alan that he pulled Saga into the story; same principle with Darling). But with the DLCs coming (the one involving the FBC), this game will nurture the future Remedy games for sure.

@@petexn7573Matt is young Zane, James Mcaffery voices the older Zane and it’s unlikely that Zane the Film Director is Zane, it’s Scratch. Casey himself says that a Director wants to control every aspect of the world in his films, just like how Scratch/The Dark Presence wants to control reality. Secondly, Zane in Room 665 dances to The Happy Song the same way Scratch does, and wears the same wedding ring Scratch has around his neck as well as wearing a deconstructed, 70s version of Scratch’s AWAN outfit. This might be why The Dark Presence hit so angry and desperate by AW2 - it’s been forced to pretend to be someone else and be killed by the person it hates the most over and over and over until they can escape, which must’ve been incredibly painful for a being that craves praise and attention.
I was a drunk and a drug addict for years.. I've been clean for a while now.. This game, in part, seems an allegory for fighting addiction.. The revelation at the end, that it is not a loop, it is in fact a spiral, is a revelation that many cured addicts can attest to.. Along with the strange, dark and ominous journey that Alan has gone through, this too is very much juxtaposed with fighting demons within.. A more poetic display of this war, I have not seen in this medium.. Bravo...
It's implied throughout both games that Alan was struggling with drinking and was emotionally and mentally unstable. The first game credit song is 'War' by Poets of the Fall; AW2 uses their song 'Heros and Villians'.
The game draws a lot of parallels between struggling with mental health and Alan's journey through what turns out to be his own inner darkness.

Quite literally, the first game's narrative is based on writer's block, both literally where Remedy was trying to follow up on their Max Payne success just like Alan tries to follow up his Alex casey books, but also how the dark place restrains creativity and prevents cohesive ideas and narratives from forming. Both American nightmare and 2 work within spirals, just like drafts of a creative work where small incremental changes per draft can eventually turn the end product almost unrecognizable from the first draft.
Many creative people, like Alan, try to brute-force their blocks and creativity through drugs and alcohol, leading into addiction. And Most, if not all, creatives struggle with their own self-doubt and mental issues. Drugs and alcohol eventually become a crutch and take over, turning what should be art into a means to feed the addiction, very similar to how the dark place feeds of creativity for its own ends. Even Coffee, while a legal stimulant, is still technically a drug and that plays a large role in these games too.
As a writer myself, I love Alan Wake for having so many layers to it. Many times analysis on works feels like they come from nowhere, but at least here the connection with writing and addiction feel solid because so much is implied in the games themselves.
@alienatedpoet1766 I just love how Alan Wake explorers the creative process and incorporates philosophy, mythology, psychology, meta fiction, and genre deconstruction. All wrapped up in a stunningly gorgeous game with the best rock album this side of 1986. Sam Lake and the writing team at Remedy put love, sweat, and sisu into AW2.

Glad you posted this, Tor and Odin bugged out for me and just stood there. thought it was weird but now I see they were actually supposed to talk to me. Also there's another Darling video where Zane finds him and convinces darling to collaborate with him. I think there's 3 total based on the TV menu in the writing room but I only found 2 of them.
They're only supposed to talk on the last loop through, right before you leave. It might be a bug that theyre standing there early. I had the exact same thing happen. The collaboration video is found when exiting the hotel on the first floor after completing everything. Inside the first room you need to stand in to trigger the first echo.

The original ending basically says that the suicide thing was a lie - that she needed Alan to believe it so that he could complete his journey so that he could (in her words) "ascend". I believe it's her voice that tells Saga where to find the shoebox with the clicker and light bullet.

As set up in Quantum Break, there are “Shifters”. Those that can exist in many dimensions at once, in a superposition. Despite QB not belonging to Remedy, its clear with a few name swaps they are able to continue that story and include it in the Remedyverse. With that being said we know who our “Shifters” are, some are more powerful and capable than others, and a few are what Martin Hatch/Warlin Door called “Unwilling Disciples”. Breaker/Joyce, Faden/Wilder, Wake/Zane, Hatch/Door, Saga, and maybe even Casey/Payne are all shifters in one form or another.
If you read the white board by Tim Breaker. It mentions a Red Headed woman that he knows but not sure from where. This is a direct link to Jesse Faden from Control whose Actor also plays Beth Hope from Quantum Break Who is directly related to Jack Joyce whose Actor is the same as Tim Breaker. This shows that QB is in the same multiverse as Alan Wake and Control and the supernatural stuff makes the worlds bleed into each other with different version of the same person split across the multiverse.

There are tons of little bits here and there. Many people will miss because they just will skip all the cutscenes to see the new ending. So many little details that put you in Saga and Alan's shoes trying to figure out what is happening and trying to fix their cloudy broken memory loops.

Very VERY subtle little things like Saga finding the heart in the freezer "This all feels familiar" type sentences. It's like her memory is fuzzy and displaces and second guesses herself a few times. Just small little details like that. Which are neat, but idk about another 20 hour playthrough neat.

The Prince / Herald of Darkness is Scratch (the bringer of The Dark Presence, the alias and vessel it uses to spread itself across reality)
Mr. Door is Saga’s dad. Him and Tor has issues (Tor could likely sense Door was a paranatual entity that seems less than kind) and did something that caused literal lightning to strike him down and cast him out of reality. “The Faraway Father” Dr. Campbell created as a doll is very clearly meant to be Mr. Door, and his description of “The Faraway Father did keep an eye on our Hero” matches up. Door claims Wake “brought someone important to him” into the story, and Door explains his family can traverse reality as they like, explaining how Saga can twist The Dark Place and navigate it while Alan insists on writing his way through it.
There is another Darling video as you're leaving the hotel that is pretty significant. I've seen a third one online but I'm pretty sure that one is datamined/leaked from the dlc. I did for sure find a second one IN GAME in the hotel lobby as I was leaving.

Man, if we don’t get some closure on Alice and Barry I think I’ll cry lmao. Other than that I think this really did a nice job tying off plot threads! Maybe we’ll get some answers in a new control game if Remedy doesn’t want to make a new Alan Wake game (understandably, they do a lot to close things out here and seem to confirm Alan is Out of the dark place, so any follow up would need to work from a premise where Alan isn’t being manipulated by it, if they want to continue using him in the story. At the same time, Alan Writes in trilogies, so there’s still a possibility for a third installment)
So... Wake became a Shifter like Door/Hatch? I think Darling, Zane and Wake were different versions of a single person from different dimensions that now merged into one single creature existing in all worlds at once, like Door/Hatch.
I reckon the next game will feature Alan facing off against Warlin Door in some form because the last interaction Alan had with him, Warlin said "The next time we meet, circumstances will be very different." Warlin is able to travel to many worlds, and now, so can Alan.
I still find it funny that Saga talks to Alan about how his story isn’t his, then talks about how heros need sacrifice, proceeds to get everything she wants then leaves the whole negative bill on Alan, even shooting him in the head. The worst she suffered was some bad feelings.

Mr. Door talks about how Alan is "insisting" on going through convoluted rules 'cause that's what all of this is. It's always been Alan. He's the tortured artist, tortured by himself. The Dark Place merely lets himself do that 'cause it works to its advantage.
This is why Saga fared a lot better against it. She knew she didn't need to build up convoluted rules, and all she had to do was confront her insecurities and push forward. Alan believes in the journey, and that's why he needed Inititation to get him through.
It's literally all in the text of the game, I dunno why I'm needed to explain this.
I guess they are savings the reveal of Door being Saga's dad for Alan Wake 3.

Thanks, you save me from playing all again just to see the "true ending". I get it the purporse of this, like Wake it's in a spiral and and playing the NG+ it's like part of this spiral haha. I think not just me, but a lot of people that finishid the game felt the ending was not complete, now we've know Logan is alive and things worked. Whtat I understand from this end is that Wake got out of the dark place, and Dr. Darling was sent there. I just dont know what it means "I'm master of many worlds".

@@JustJDxThat writer’s room was the one in the nursing home opened by Ahti, not the one in the Dark Place. Saga left the Dark Place and ended up in the real world with Alan and Scratch (Casey) using Ahti’s puddle, or so it’s implied she came back using his puddle anyways.
I'm not a genius, but basically the master of many worlds is referring to quantum physics, more specifically how many people think the reasonable way to interpret quantum physics is that every time something is done, it creates many alternate realities where something slightly, or very different happened. This ties into the thing he was saying about time how in the future there are version of him making him jump through these hoops to get to a certain point in the future. Of course the real question is who created who, how is darling connected to tom and alan, etc. This is all too complicated for my little brain, I will let someone smarter and more attentive figure it out! :D

Remember that there is a poster in Ahti presentation in Watery that states that Tom's real name is actually Tom Seine, Alan maybe confused and changed his name to "Zane" while was in the Dark Place, since the time in the Dark Place is not the same as in our world, the writing of Alan Wake managed to reach Alan from another world and another timelane, just like happened to Saga and Casey since they were real in another world, with that said, The Dark Presence reached him through his dreams... Its confused but i think you guys will sort all of this! Trust me on this: Alan is Tom from another world, and Alice is Barbara from another world. Both of them are the same, dont trust on Tom The Cineast, since he was created, just like Tom The Diver and Tom Zane The Poet, the only one that true remains, is Tom Seine, even the Lady Of The Light, which previously was Cyntia Weaver, never call Tom as "Zane", but always as TOM ! We are Tom, Alan and maybe... Even Darling! Cause in the end, it begins with a dream!

Remember what Dylan said to Jesse Fayden in Control about Door: "In a world, a writer writes about a cop, but in another world, the cop was real..." Alan Writes and people are dragged into the story, just like happened with Saga and even Door, thats why he said to Alan: "You keep opening doors, dragging everyone into your story"
Tom The Poet and Tom The Diver are one in the same and are canon, The House of Dreams ARG confirms it.
Basically, Samantha Wells finds The Shoebox and inside are photos of Zane and Barbara diving on their boat and poems written by Zane either while outside or whilst inside The Dark Place. Considering everything out in the shoebox is not affected by AWEs, and is therefore the real or true version of an item, it confirms Zane was a diver and poet.
We know Tom didn’t “create” Alan, but he used him, created a story about a writer taken by a Dark Presence to write about himself (Zane) to free him. However, due to Alan being a parautilitarian, it would seem that he was able to start writing his own way through the story, and as a result they are sort of stuck writing each other. Darling is definitely stuck in The Dark Place as in his second message he meets The Film Director version of Zane, who wants to collaborate with him. This is basically the final nail in the coffin to me that Film Director Zane is Mr. Scratch/The Dark Presence. They both dance the same way to The Happy Song and Zane wears a 70s disco version of Mr. Scratch’s suit, and also wears a wedding ring identical to Scratch’s around his neck. This Zane collaborating with seemingly anyone he finds in The Dark Place suggests to me that The Dark Presence pretended to be this version of Zane and wrote him into reality in order to manipulate anyone who goes into The Dark Place into writing him out and into reality, so that The Dark Presence can escape into reality.
Darling is trapped in the dark place because he was transported there after saga finished all the nursery rhymes....

I love this game but I’m still so confused. Did Alan create The Dark Presence when he was shot? Was The Dark Presence always part of him along with Alice before AW1 and then it was separated? Or was he missing his two halves, and now they have been joined together for Alan to become what he is now. I also have a theory that “The Master of Many Worlds” is meant to imply that we keep seeing Matthew Porretta as different characters in The Remedyverse because he’s like, split between them, he’s Alan, Darling, and the true Thomas Zane (Matt voices young Zane at the end of AW1 when you hear him cut out Barbara’s heart)
Speaking of Zane, I think i understand who was writing who? To escape The Dark Place, Zane wrote about Alan Wake, guiding him through his life. Then, when Alan is taken into The Dark Place to write Departure, he begins writing Zane and himself, like how Saga broke away from the story Alan had written.

So right now my theory stands. Alan wake created Jesse from control to come get him out of lake. (Which was more or less spelled out during the AWE dlc from control)
What was confusing me was why abandoned that plan for this one? But this now makes sense the dark presence was tied to him in scratch. He could be pulled from the lake but the lake would come with him as we saw. He stopped writing because he realized this. Zane worked with scratch to create return trying to go over Alan head. alan rewrote that story and used to it create separation which he accomplished thanks to Alice and sage. He is now separated, enlightened, and still powerful. Able to use the power without being its vessel. Now he can finish the control story (control 2). Use Casper to bridge the gap and bring a fully realized Jesse in to actual fight and seal the darkness and fully free him from the lake. (Alan wake 3: Controlled wake)
Definitely possible. The AWE DLC suggests he was testing Jesse for something, and it clearly wasn't the events of Alan Wake 2 since she never made an appearance and it's Saga that freed him.
It makes me wonder if the Alan Wake in AWE is actually a version of Alan that's AFTER the events of Alan Wake 2 - an Alan that is now the master of the Dark Place instead of a prisoner of it as that what seems to be suggested before it goes black. That Alan has beaten the Dark Presence and gained the ability to affect all the realities.

I have the felling that the next game will be about Thomas Zane and Alice in the darks place, maybe Thor and Odin and of course Saga and Alan wake, and hopefully we have more information about Tim andJesse or Dylan Faden or the FBC in general.
I think Warlin Door will feature heavily in the next game, with both Alan and Warlin essentially able to exist, and travel to, many worlds.

@@virenrana6459 The first time Alan goes into Parliament Tower in NG+, he finds one of Alice's photos on the floor of the elevator, of himself with the bullet of light in his forehead. I never found any other references to that photo later in the game though, even though it's in your inventory the rest of the game.

A lot of this, if not all, should have been in the first ending. I felt quite a disappointment in it before. There are still some ruff edges but this is actually an ending I can get behind.

i have a question, if Tom created Alan (i personally don't subscribe to this theory but it's a valid theory nonetheless) why Warlin Door is taking so much interest in Alan? shouldn't Door taking interest in Tom?
i think that Tom is Allan from an alternate reality since the dark place exist between the infinite different realities and Alan mastered or the very least understood how to navigate it by using his art unlike Tom who is still stuck.
If Door wants to help Zane and Alan is Zane's tool to escape, logically helping Alan would be the best bet.
What if Alan created Tom in his story? Someone who failed before to teach Alan how to triumph?
I think Tom is another aspect of Scratch/ the Dark Place. I also feel like the Tom Zane/Mr. Scratch scenes debunk that American Nightmare isn't canon.
In the first game, Thomas Zaine created Mr. Scratch so he could take Alan's place in the real world, but the Dark Prescence hijacked Mr. Scratch and Mr. Scratch wasn't able to leave.
Alan was working on a much earlier draft of Return in American Nightmare where Alan created Mr. Scratch as his alter-ego based on the tabloid rumors and all the negative aspects of Alan. However, his physical form was destroyed and Alan managed to get a glimpse of Alice's artwork dedicated to him before he was sent back into the spiral. Even his clothes in that game, which embody the positive memories with Alice, is what he wears in AW2.
Then in the Control AWE DLC, we see Tom Zane and Alan Wake in the Ocean View hotel, where Tom looks just like Alan as they go over the dialogue in their first scene together about working together. As Jesse wasn't affected by the Dark Place's visions, she could see Zane for how he really was. Either that or, this is another earlier version of the spiral where they didn't look finalized. Just like writing drafts of a story, slowly improving with each draft.
Then in Alan Wake 2, that prior scene features the Happy Song from Poets of the Fall, which was associated with Mr. Scratch in American Nightmare. And when Alan was back in reality he was wearing his light pleasant memory clothes until Mr. Scratch took over. Zane also pulls the same trick on Darling on saying he'll work with him, but really its to his own ends. Zane also seems to have some control over the dark place. We know that Scratch, using Alan, can write his own stories and change reality. He probably took over the original Thomas Zaine, changed him into Tom Zane and from poet to filmmaker, in order to further his ends. I also saw some theories that Thomas was Loki, the third band member of the Old Gods of Asgard who disappeared in 1972, but "Fat" Bob Balder is the third member in Alan Wake 2. So who knows with that connection.
We don't know what the DLC has in store, but I don't think the Dark Place has given up, Alice's rescue feels set up for a third game more than DLC. But who knows. Saga, Wake, Casey, Tor, Odin are still in the Dark Place. We can only wait.

@@kallemort Casey and Alan were in the displaced town, that was stated to be a piece of the dark place that would slowly encapsulate the rest of the world. So that whole segment was separated from reality.
Saga was still in the Dark Place through Cauldron Lake. She Astral-projected herself into Alan's writer's room, just like how Alan Astral projected himself into the fictional New York.
The end of the game shows them in the writer's room, which is the closest to a physical space in the Dark Place as you can get. The door in the nursing home seems to be merely a portal, which is why Ahti guards it.
It is stated in every game that radio signals, manuscript pages, and some other methods of communication can slip through the dark place, that includes cell phones, especially when written into reality.

we dont know exactly. at the final of control, he was exposed to a lot of the polaris ressonance, that changed him, and he just vanished, implying he's in another dimension, maybe one of the portals of the slide projector. could be the darkplace, or a space between dimensons.
Where the fk else would he be? On another video you can find he's talking to Thomas Zane who is himself trapped in the dark place. In this video he is hearing Wake's voice and says that he believes it's what's holding the dimension together.

@@clink1211true, but in this case it isn't wake trying make contact, but darling explaining how the dark place is made of Wakes writing (background radiation bla bla) Add to that the cutscene where Darling and Zane talk in person and it's pretty much a given that he's in the dark place
I think he's literally everywhere. To put it less cryptically, I feel like he's gained the ability to traverse realities and states of being like Door has (though I presume not nearly to the same level of power and heh...control.)

I love Remedy's games (I finished Control multiple times in all difficulties) but this one went too far into the "slow ass gameplay & very weak heros" that it completely put me off going though those horrible fight sequences again.

Alan Wake I had mode balanced fighting scenes (but a bit too much of them) and Control is just perfect is all aspects - Story telling, genius gameplay and rythm.

Yeah considering that they’re at old age. In the dark place, you don’t die. So makes sense they decided to stay, they still have a role to play into the story and only their old age hinders them but the dark place locks their age.

Doesn't this mean that Alice is still trapped in the dark place? It says she killed herself by throwing herself into the lake, which I took to mean that she was trapped in the dark place with Alan. I feel like she deserves a happy ending as well

The low ammount of changes really doesn't make the new ending worth it, it makes playing through the game again boring outside of finding the limited ammount of new content...There's just 13 minutes worth of new content (a bit more if we missed a few things)
And the new ending doesn't make sense cuz of it...What CHANGED for the new ending to be possible? From what we know the story's the same, it ends the same way except Alan remembers everything at the last moment...So why does it stop the Spiral?
New game + in games almost never have additional story content and you're upset because there's not hours of new content lol
