ITS AMAZING I CANT STOP PLAYING THIS SONG
Alan cannot look at a camera like normal, He either looks batshit insane or extremely confused and scared
Alan when he has to against eldich entities just to save his own life:
maybe that's what papparazzi see right before he beats the shit out of them
He doesn't see the cameras it's explained in the lore.
Can you blame him?
He's been through variations of the talk show several times, and this time he's confident he can handle whatever they throw at him and take control of the situation. "No more surprises," he tells himself.
Then they do this. That look on his face is his realization that he was kidding himself.
the tonal dissonance of this entire part of the game is honestly great, also I love Alan Wakes actor Ilkka Villi's ability to just genuinely look so fucking confused about what's going on most of the time.
Ilkka looks like the good version of Aaron Rodgers, a hero, not a idiot
Takes hotter than a nuke (even for a packers fan)
I like to imagine that they never told him what scene he will be in and he is genuinely confused wtf is going on
Dissonance is the most jarring thing in all reality. Just ask Jesse Faden! I literally and honestly think of the Hiss as the Dissonance.
Love picturing Sam Lake writing away and then typing “Then we all dance. Including specifically me. It’s magical.”
In the dimly lit studio, the air hummed with anticipation as Alan Wake stood backstage, the echo of electric guitars tuning in the background. He could feel the energy vibrating through the air, a tangible force that seemed to echo the pulse of his own heart. The stage lights flickered as the announcer's voice echoed through the cavernous space.
"Ladies and gentlemen, prepare yourselves for a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Tonight, in this very studio, we have the legendary Old Gods of Asgard, joined by the brilliant Alan Wake, ready to take you on a journey through the realms of rock and imagination!"
As the crowd erupted in cheers, Alan took a deep breath, his mind already weaving the narrative that would unfold in the next few moments. The stage curtains lifted, revealing a surreal set that seemed to blend the ethereal with the familiar. The Old Gods of Asgard, adorned in majestic, weathered attire, stood like ancient titans, their instruments gleaming with an otherworldly glow.
@@BagumkaTVI love your writing! I’d love to write a book or something like that some time. Got any tips for writing like you?
@@Wedge_The_AlmightyEmbrace your inner Alan Wake
Amen ♥
@@Wedge_The_Almighty Not OP, but I do creative writing as a hobby. Starting off writing fiction, I found the following three things most helpful. First, show don't tell unless you really need to tell something to the reader. (I.E., "Alan Wake widened his eyes when he saw Mr. Door" vs. "Alan Wake was surprised to see Mr. Door" -- widening his eyes shows the reader he's surprised, instead of telling him outright he's surprised.) Second, start writing flash fiction instead of longer pieces. Flash fictions cap out at 500 - 1.5K words and are great to start with writing if you're new to storytelling and editing. Last, give your story at least two drafts before you chuck it in the bin if you're unhappy. Some of mine take at least three - four rounds of editing before I really like them, and it's normal to not like your original manuscript when you first write it!

I love that right before this sequnce in the game, Alan talks about how much he can control the story and nothing will suprise him
The guy had no idea what he was cooking
Alan: "I'm a writer."
Mr. Door: "This time, we sing!"
Alan: "wait no that's illegal"
the control in question: (not like the game though)
I can't stop thinking of him saying "well that just happened"😂
Surprise*
The dark place is a scary, dangerous place.
Also the dark place :
It may be dangerous, but it has so fuckin' good music
I think Mr. Door is playing a role by using the "talk show" and entertainment in order to help Alan to remain "sane" there somehow
Nah, the Dark Place is just an "empty" space. Waiting to be filled by the minds of whoever occupies it. It's just that right now the major occupants are Alan, The Dark Presence, and Mr. Door. And so this is the result. My theory is that it's only scary because Alan and the Dark Presence make it so. A different person/entity with different flaws and desires would make it a completely different place because the Dark Place brings out EVERY aspect of you and manifests it.
The dark place is toying with Alan, which makes it more unsetling.
That's why it's dangerous, maybe not always scary but it's manipulative
Thank god Sam Lake pushed to keep this in the game. It was phenomenal.
What do you mean "pushed" to keep this in the game?! Who in the production there thought it was a bad idea? I mean, I'm happy his vote won and they did it, but what were the concerns?

He’s very good at his job and very creative. He is an inspiration.
I know next to nothing about Remedy or their games, but I understood Sam studied English filology at the university.
Considering how humanists/language students career opportunities are often portrayed, I have wondered over the past week, how Sam sees his journey with Remedy.
I'm sure he has gone through it many times in the interviews over the years, but the idea really fascinates me.

The actor for Mr. Door does such a fantastic job. His enthusiasm and upbeat/goofy personality are so obviously fake but you can't help but feel charmed regardless.
It honestly feels like I'm back in Twin Peaks and watching one of the Black Lodge spirits try to act natural. ...And then the smile just gives off "How's Annie?!" vibes anyway.
One of my favorite things about Control and Alan Wake 2 is how the protagonists will have legitimate reactions to the bizarre and sometimes cool stuff around them. Jesse saying “That was awesome” after The Maze, Alan’s little smile at the end of the song (and “It’s catchy, right?” in game)… makes our heroes more human in an increasingly otherworldly setting!
The problem is that while they have reaction to the quirky things, they have none for the horrific, Like Saga about the heartless corpse rising, killing and teleporting. Even worse for characters that aren't the protagonists, like the two cops when they arrive at the place, there is dead cops there that are at least their collegue, and all their reaction is ''yup, dead''

@@ShiffDawgMan Yes you can. You can feel the story, get a feel for the character and their past through the music,.
In a interview with Sam Lake on video game reviewer Skill Up's podcast Friends Per Second, Sam revealed that this was constantly at risk of being cut. He originally tried to get something like this in Control but wasn't able to get it done. The scope of this was tremendous and unseen in gaming production, Sam pushed back multiple times to keep it alive and I seriously can't believe how good it came out. This could've easily came off terribly but the team pushed so hard with passion and it comes out in the segment. Thank you Sam for not faltering in your creative endeavors, Thank you Remedy for constantly pushing the envelope, Thank you Poets of the Fall for constantly breaking boundaries and crafting amazing music.
No wonder - it's both most astonishing part of the game, so as it's the most hard to create part of the game: tons of testing, synchs, polishing just for one "scene". As Art - it's great, no questions, as money maker - very doubtfull.
I mean. Some form of this DID make it into Control with Dr. Darling's little Dynamite song. It wasn't a full sequence and clearly made on a budget. But I love how scenes like these ease the tension. With Dr. Darling, it is to motivate the player and Jesse to finish the game. As for Alan Wake 2...
I have no clue. i haven't played it yet! I was scared I stumbled on a spoiler, but I am happy it is just a recap.
I love Skill Up, great reviewer
Thank god it wasn't cut! It was definitely the highlight of this game in my view!
We recorded the first demos of Herald of Darkness in early 2020, and I worked for about a year very closely with Remedy when implementing the song in the game. It was a huge and meticulous project, and making all the different elements work together was a major challenge, but also super interesting. I'm glad it's now finished and out, and happy it has been received so well! 😊🤘

After showing my Mom the Last of Us TV show, she said she really enjoyed it and asked me if there were any other games I would like to see get adapted into a TV show. With They did a series, i think i would be better showing his wife and The life of The cult members then The main plot.
It's called bright falls
I think the first Alan Wake would make a better TV show. I think the first Alan Wake was more of a horror game than this one. This one was more of a mind screw job than being dark. But I definitely loved them both, but as far as the story itself goes, i thought the first Alan Wake had a better story.

@@niks660097the genre of game is survival horror. Limited resources (leading to avoidance of combat, like in an older RE title), safe rooms, squishy characters that can’t take too much damage, healing that is not instantaneous (common in the genre but not all of ‘em), infrequent checkpoints, limited inventory space (and a storage box) leading to a push & pull of deciding what to bring with you and what to leave behind…
It’s actually closer to true survival horror than many recent entries, so I’m gonna have to disagree. It’d seem you are conflating the plot with the gameplay; Silent Hill is psychological in nature as well, yet still falls under the genre. Lots of them have that element in it, coincidentally. Or perhaps by design, as instilling tension in the gameplay echoes a psychological sort of story rather well!

I’m so happy it’s 2023 and we can still be in awe of a moment in gaming. Sometimes it feels like originality in games is over, then something like this happens. Warms my old dead heart.
It was great but gameplay wise wasn't much cop
@PRLYago bro 2023 has been one of the best years in gaming in a long time, lot of greats this year 🙌
@@brianlaudrupchannel I saw a comment put it in a great way. The first musical is a great spectacle, but the final showdown really had that moment that made u feel like a badass. So imo we got best of both worlds
@@PRLYagoExactly! With so many remasters in the last 3 years (especially from Sony 1st party), this game feels great.
Mr. Door lives in multiple "dimensions"; for him, it's all play and games. His expressions convey this constantly. Love it!
1. Greatest Game I’ve ever played
2. LOVED this section of the game
3. Definitely an OGoA fan for life now.
3. Cast was perfect.
OGoA is a virtual band, in-game avatar of Poets of the Fall. You're probably a Poets of the Fall fan by now.
This song is just stuck in my head, actually made me look for the game,I'm also an OGoA/PotF fan now :D
@@okbVinyl yup
You should definitely check out "Carnival of Rust"
@@pyromite38definitely will
I really like the lore implication of just "yeah the dark presence is scary but sometimes it just wants to let loose and have fun dancing and singing"
What makes it funnier is that before this, Alan said, “Yeah, I think I’m starting to get control over this place and my situation a little.” and the Dark Place went, “Nope. Here’s a musical to show you I’m in charge. You aren’t in charge of shit.” 😂
it wasn't up to the dark presence. The old gods of Asgard invaded the dark place and rocked the house
We know for a fact with American nightmare the dark presence sometimes just wants to fuck with him.
@@SuperNeos2 "You might be the writer, but never forget, **I'm the director.** "
No, it was Mr door with old gods of Asgard, help Alan to understand what is happening.
You can tell Sam Lake is having a good time. Well, he wrote this for the game. I think Mr. Lake might be my new favorite game creator.
Been a fan of him since max payne 1 😂 dude writes good stuff
Actually giving me the whole good Kojima vibes he used to give years ago.
And Max Payne 1 is still his best game ever made.@@VChong1991
It's PAYNE!
From first Max Payne and forever this Finland developer will my favorite game creator
There is nothing that inspires me more lately than seeing Sam Lake beaming while doing this silly dance. Alan Wake 2 isn't just a great game, it's resonated with me in a way that I didn't think media could do anymore. Thanks Sam Lake, thanks Remedy. As many have said before, and will say again: We escaping the dark place with this one.
I cant stop listening... its been 4 times today.
"Catchy, right?"
Only 4 times? You gotta pump up those numbers up, those are rookie numbers.
@@SolaireGamingPT lmao I thought of that quote too. 😂😂😂
Odin and Tor has not only blessed us with "The Poet And The Muse", but now also this masterpeice. Outstanding work. I hope the Poets Of The Fall never stop working with Remedy.
Don't forget "Take Control" too
@@drakowerewolf7209 And Dark Ocean Summoning.
Also most of the Poets of the Fall discography to be honest.
I think Sam Lake wrote the songs
Also "Late Goodbye"
@@MikeG82 Not really. Sam said in an interview that he gives much freedom to the Poets because they can write good lyrics related to the story without his direct involvement. He's there ironing out the little details and part of the creative process for all songs of course.
The only lyrics Sam has written completely himself are for the songs Ahti sings. Sankarin Tango in Control and Yötön yö in AW2.
One of the best gaming moments of my entire life.
I agree
Almost on the same level as take control
WE MAKING IT OUT OF DARK PLACE WITH THIS ONE 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
This song has been stuck in my head for the past 7 days and I'm still not tired of it.
I honestly don't think I'll ever will since I'm still singing in my head the songs from the original ALAN WAKE ;)
Same, am singing it at work 😂
Yeah I can't get it out of my head. The game is genius.
me too))
Same ♥
There's genuinely no better duo than Remedy and Poets of the Fall.
Agreed!
Nope. Remedy and Poe is still a better duo.
Sam Lake you hack! [Affectionate]
Fighting through a labyrinth of monsters while this played all around me has to be one of the most interesting experiences I’ve ever had in a video game.
The smile on Sam's face during the final chorus is everything.
Are you referring to 9:12?
@@zperk13Sam Lake, dude. That's the Alex Casey/Max Payne guy. Do some research.
8:41
My only gripe is I feel like Alex Casey wouldn’t be smiling here? I would have preferred a gruff grim sneer and a more stern look on his face. But if I were in his position yeah I wouldn’t be able to hold back my joy.
in the talk show its not alex casey its supposed to be sam lake the actor of alex casey based on that interview from before (I think)
David Harewood played his role perfectly as Mr. Door.
I don't think I'm even halfway through this game, and every time I finish for the night, the game somehow keeps getting better.
Saga, Alice, Mr. Door, Ahti, Koskela brothers, etc. they were all amazing performances!
It was supposed to be Lance Reddick at first, may he rest in peace, and he still knocked it out of the park
I don't know how anyone is beating this game in 15-20 hours. Granted, I'm playing on Hard difficulty (its actually extremely well balanced and rarely becomes anything other than challenging in the kind of way I find survival horror should be) but I'm 32 hours in with at least 5 chapters left to go and a bunch of side content to tackle still. Between all the richly written documents, letters, notes, etc as well as the amazing short films, radio shows, treasure hunts, brain bending codes to crack, and rich, rewarding exploration...It refuses to stop making me love it more and more.
Rarely have I felt like a game so completely aligns with my tastes in this way. My few complaints are so inconsequential given what the game chooses to prioritize. The saddest thing is knowing there is an ending. I say all of this yet deep down I still haven't rewired my brain to exist in a world where Alan Wake 2 is real. I still cannot fathom it. It makes me so indescribably happy.
@@jarg8 agree, i just earned all achievements in 55 hours, also dont worry, there will be 2 story DLC's and a new game plus mode called last draft with more story elements added, will be awesome!
This game is an anomaly. Remedy should have an unlimited budget for whatever they decide to cook up. The music cooking up when saga played the recordat nursing home and crossed the threshold into the dark place is amazing . And of course this musical / fighting taken as Alan while this video playing in the background . This was way better than control ashtray maze .
One of the best things about this song is that seeing Markus Captain Kaarlonen playing a new piece of music with his band. Legend.
The song starts 0:49, Sam Lake before the song even starts 0:39 🕺:
Nowhere NEAR enough love for the band, Poets of the Fall, here!! They've been going over 20 years, did the song Late Goodbye for Max Payne 2, War for Alan Wake 1, and are just INCREDIBLE here.
Marko Saaresto on vocals, Olli Tukiainen on guitar.
Phenomenal ❤
I saw them live last week and they're equally as perfect as on their albums. Marko's voice pushes forth so much emotion is ridiculous!
Take Control for Control too!
They are in the ending of the Futurmark demo 3dMark 2005 with the song "Lift" too...
Also Children of The Elder God, The Poet and the Muse, and Balance Slays the Demon for Alan Wake 1.
"Angel" is my favorite song of theirs.
It's incredible to think that this was almost scrapped from the game - thank you Sam Lake for keeping it in 🙏
where did you read that?
@varunaX sam lake mentioned it on several podcasts where he was interviewed about the game, including the inspiration for the musical section. Friends Per Second podcast is where I've seen him say it.
"Music producers" these days: The song must be 3 minutes long. Tops.
OGA: Here, this one is almost ten minutes long, has five different musical genres and several singers.
Jokes aside, one of the best things I've heard this year by far.
0:41 It's a musical...

This segment lasts about 20 DAMN MINUTES in the game, and it is FUCKING AMAZING!!!!
This is probably the most mindblowing, unexpected and perfectly awesome moment that I've ever experienced in a videogame. I was speechless during the whole segment. Everyone can tell how much fun and love every single one of you had making this happen. Thank you so much for this, I love you guys ❤
Same here
This segment is fucking good bags azevs
Kinda had its existence spoiled by penguinz0, but was still smiling the entire time at how cool it was. Penguinz0 said it went on “for a long time but didn’t outstay it’s welcome” but it honestly was very brief compared to the rest of the game
This man has not played a Remedy game.
I mean... it is awesome but at the end of the day it is just a song with video playing while you walk through some rooms
Poets of the Fall - is a diamond that for some reason a lot of people do not see before their eyes. Guys, I've been listening to you for more than 15 years. Thank you for all the songs, for all the incarnations and stories that you gave us together with them ❤🔥🔥
The first Alan Wake turned me into a fan of theirs and i haven't missed a single album release yet, i adore them.
I found them via Remedy games but damn do I love them
I really hope they get on stage for the VGAs because of Alan Wake 2!

Seeing Sam smiling makes me smile it's contagious
Shoutout to the dark place for writing and directing a musical performance in the dark place.
Remedy is what Electronics Arts was meant to be.
They are creating Art.

It's definitely a tie with the Ashtray maze from Control for me
♫ Champion of Light... (humming) ... Herald of Darkness ♫

Old Gods of Asgard / Poets of the Fall legitimately are incapable of making a bad song and this is proof of it
Oh hell. ALL their music is proof of it
I heard that this was a production nightmare and that Sam Lake singlehandedly forced it in, and unfortunately for everyone involved, he was absolutely right to, this whole sequence is peak cinema
Where did you heard it from?
I’m so glad that they did it though, it was my favorite part of the game and it was so amazingly well done. The Summoning was also great
dark ocean summoning @@jonathanmurray5733
He didn't say it was a "production nightmare," just that when he pitched the idea of this sequence there was a lot of pushback from the team and Sam stuck to his guns and made sure it got in. The team just thought it was out of place at first, but Sam convinced them it was worth keeping.
God I love this kind of passion in media even if it turns out hated the fact the person really feels passionate about something they make sure it works and makes it in and it paid off here
I will never get tired of seeing Sam Lake dance before the song starts.
And that dance is a reference to David Lynch’s Twin Peaks!
Sam Lake is a genius!
Twin peaks was a big inspiration for the first Alan wake game
Mr. Scratch has been silent since this dropped.
Don't worry bros a psycho
The whole musical section is one of the best experiences I've had in over 30 years of gaming. I had such a huge smile on my face all the way through
It's happening! They just announced Old Gods of Asgard (Poets of the Fall) will be performing live at the Game Awards!
Yeeeeey

We don't know what they're performing though, I don't think. I feel like it'll probably be Dark Ocean Summoning since this song is pretty long and requires more than just Poets to perform. Either way, I'm happy. I'm just watching the show for the Old Gods performance. 🤣
@@GradnLordTad I mean I'd be cool with that, it slams.
