Things you need to be a car salesman; a great people person; an unbelievable work ethic and hustle; the will to keep pushing and selling no matter how many cars you have sold. I will never be satisfied with a number, not 30, not 40, not 100 car sold per month I will never be satisfied, always pushing more out! Also need to be a very smooth charismatic person. Do this; he will make $10,000 and more per month

that's true if you're selling regular cars. If you're in the luxury car business, less work, but more time spent with the same client, more commissions, and a crap load of extra cash with accessories. Your clients become friends basically, unlike with regular cars. With luxury cars you do activities with your clients, like rides with hotels and dinners, etc. Way more fun.

I'm terrible at sales, as well as any form of social interaction in general. That said, I've realized that sales is a massive part of overall success in every aspect of life. I am an aspiring entrepreneur, and need money in order to pursue my plan, so my goal is much larger than simply working a job in sales. As much as I will hate it, I absolutely have to improve myself, especially regarding my ability to sell something. I'm stepping out of my comfort zone that I have otherwise stayed inside of for the last five years. Wish me luck.

I am with the luxury car sales, which is interesting, a lot of things are opposites compared to regular cars. For instance, when you sell luxury cars, you DO NOT want to tell everyone about it and never brag about it, because the people that can afford it will think you're pathetic. Best is to let them find out, by selectively and respectfully, lead a conversation, to a point where eventually you'll be asked about what it is you do, and only then, you vaguely answer, so let them keep fishing, and suddenly if you mention your brand, you suddenly got them hooked and a lot of attention.
Also, with luxury cars you don't need to sell as many at all, and more importantly, you make a crap ton of cash with accessories. I mean, first of all people can easily afford extras, they want to have a unique experience and that's another good one.
True about Saturdays, I am not a people person (the reason why luxury cars sales is fantastic!, less people !), so I love taking Mondays off when car sales is pretty much non-existent. I hate Saturdays, too many people everywhere.
Also, regular car salesmen mostly bad luxury sales persons because their sales pitch is imprinted into them, luxury car clients are different. They don't pretend to be smarter, richer and better than you, they don't even think of that, so you won't need to kiss-ass at all, there's mutual respect right there since they already know they're richer (generally speaking), and what they want is a new unique toy and your job is to feed them what they want to hear because they're in there most of the time because they want to buy a new toy !
Also, the 30-50 calls a day is reduced to like 10-15 tops !
Your clients basically become your friends with luxury cars, so they keep coming back, do random visits, it is amazing because you also do car expeditions with them, like small tours, with fine dining, music, and so on, you bond with your clients. Respectfully, I could never even think of selling Toyotas etc, great cars (I drive one myself), but I can't deal with clients that think I am some lowlife and all they care about is the cheapest price possible. I take my hat off to you all that can handle those and especially, omg, extra hats off to all second hand junker car dealers, good lord, you guys should be able to retire with 50 years of age with full pension.
Also, with luxury cars no head butting with co-workers. Trained receptionists assign clients to you often, a big numbers of clients are returning customers and their friends, recommended by buyers, and so forth, people will approach you way more without you even knowing who they are until they let you know.

@@carsunlocked Personally, from your videos you'd make a good luxury salesperson for sure, if you ever have the chance to get into it I highly recommend it. It is, definitely, less work, which is a big pro. However, you have to be more than just a "salesguy", my clients have my personal phone-number, for instance, I have dual-citizen ship and when I go to my home country, I ask my client-friends if they need me to get them something (I mean, they could easily order it, but you get what I mean). Our clients basically when they are bored at times come to our showroom just to sit down, talk, have some coffee, or even compete with the Video-Gaming arcades we set up, haha (omg, they love that!). The best is, they talk to you with respect, they are looking for a unique car, not who offers them the cheapest possible prices, which is less time waste for you, more motivational but again, you're also the first they call if they're not happy with something, and not the maintenance department, hah, but personally, I like that interaction! It is not uncommon for you to go help them (in extreme rare occasions) tow a car on a Sunday (coordinate it for them), get to the dealership same day and give them a replacement, until you get things figured out, and figured out fast I might add, they do have a limit to patience in terms of if they are being ignored.

Hey guys, I didn’t realize I had so many replies. I’m actually working at a GMC/Buick/Chevrolet/Cadillac dealership now. I currently wholesale parts, and 100% commissioned based. I’m actually not a car salesman, but getting into the dealership world is a big leap and I 100% recommend it if you can. Not all dealerships are going to be the same, but finding that right one might be the kicker, but I promise once your in a good space, the dealership world is definitely a big step and the way to go financially. There are so many open doors, rather that be in sales or service. It has been one of my best life decisions yet. And again I highly, highly recommend it. I get to talk to salesman/woman all day and help there customers with accessories or car part needs, and getting to learn service part of things by working beside awesome service writers. Again I just turned 24yr old this year. And I’m super excited to see what’s next. If you are willing to put in the work and time to learn. I believe anyone can do it. I believe in everyone reading this right now and is one the border to making that next life leap. Just do it, don’t wait. You got this!!! Be used to being comfortable in the most uncomfortable. One year later and i can say I’m probably the happiest I have ever been. Im a father to a 4 year old daughter and “work in progress” Husband.

I was in service. It's very fun if you work sales from the service in same dealership as you already have customer base and volume and have other advisors give you referrals. Also it helps because you can go to finance and insurance selling warranties and other products. I haven't had much luck as I was an advisor at other brands and dealers but the organization and productivity of a service advisor can be very good to use as a car salesman.

I lost my business due to Covid and have been running around since trying all kinds of things. Sadly, this has costed me a couple of extra physical moves, lots of undue stress and about 35K in losses in the process. I even went and got a CDL license but driving is just too boring for me. At sixty years old, none of this is any fun.
Next up: Investigating the car/truck sales option. I put this off for a long time due to the negative stigma and because I just assume most dealerships are crooked to one extent or another (despite their oft claims of integrity).
I know I can do this, I just want to be with the right people and place to do it. I'm meeting up with my 1st dealership soon and I'm going to be very blunt about my concerns and intentions with them. Hopefully this will weed out the places where I won't fit it and help me find the place where I will.
Thanks for the information. I'lll watch a few more videos from you. If they are as helpful as this one that should help prepare me for much of what I'll face if I do take the long term plunge into car sales.

I’m hoping if I start looking into this, learning, and preparing now while I’m going into my senior year of highschool, I can become a successful car salesman. Or salesperson wtver.

It's a very good job if you know what to do, but also it varies from dealership to dealership. Structure, pay plan, demographics, brand, management and other factors make a big difference. I worked in 3 dealerships, the first one was horrible, managers with no integrity, dishonest sales people and brand that only attract the worse customers, I stayed for 8 months and barely made any money. The second dealership had excellent structure, training, professionalism, integrity, excellent reputation with the community, pay plan was ok but due to low margin and high volume you couldn't make enough money, just reasonable but not great. My third and last dealership is family owned and it was great for 10 years, excellent pay plan, good honest owners, took great care of its employees and I made great money averaging 18 to 22 cars per month, 3 years ago another company took over and fortunately they didn't change too much, just a few perks we had they got rid of but kept a similar pay plan so my income didn't get affected as much. Car business is very different depending on what dealership and brand you work.

I’m 17 turning 18 in two months, I’m in Ottawa Ontario, I’m thinking of study bussines management to work on car sales but I don’t know exactly how it is and the thing I know is that I need to have a very good communication with people (the customers) and the problem is that I’m new in Canada 🇨🇦 I have here 2 years and 6 months and I don’t speak English perfectly, I understand a lot specially about cars because I like a lot cars but I don’t speak like 100% I would say like 70% so I don’t know if that affects in the way of me communicating with the people negotiating about a car or something 😓

@@carsunlocked Could you please suggest if used car dealerships are better than franchise dealerships?

    • @carsunlocked
      @carsunlocked  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

thanks my friend. I guess it depends on the reputation of the pre owned dealership. Often the brand of a franchise ads credibility, loyalty and trust from the consumer. Most pre owned dealers need time to build this reputation and if not done correctly they can establish a negative reputation to the public

    hey cars unlocked,
just stumbled across this video. great video btw, i appreciate you giving us on the internet this honest and needed info. the last couple of months have faced me with some hard challenges, my dog died and my relationship of many years ended. but facing these challenges had got me thinking about myself. one thing i've always liked since i was a kid was cars. im currently in my third year of college for information systems, but i wanna try a job in car sales this summer. i really like cars and wanna try a job this summer to help boost my mental health, and be less reliant on my family for money. i know you said this will have to be long term to make it worth it so what would you recommend? i appreciate your help again.
