      I had a skill unlocked in dying light 1 where you could jump off of zombies as if they were boxes, this floaty parkour doesn’t seem like it would make it work too well

    I agree with you the floaty parkour is a massive turn off compared to dying light 1 because it makes me feel that any momentum I gained is stopped when I parkour through under or above obstacles

    Honestly I prefer the DL1's parkour, it just feels more fun and natural. Also, I wish they didn't allow the player to constantly sprint by default. Sometimes I find myself the need to slow down to inspect, loot, etc. Even when descending down buildings I accidently fell and die, because of how fidgety the player feels.
    I know the parkour is not going to change, but at least give us the option to press shift to sprint...

      the worst part is that you have a sprint after you are already sprinting, its extremely confusing because some parkour moves just work in this "second sprint" and its hard to diferenciate between these two sprints, I died several times trying to jump on a zombie because of that, and it feels bad to use anyways

    The game was float ever since dying light 2 was first revealed to the world. Tbh this does not bother me at all and the parkour will probably be really smoothe, considering that the more combo moves you do with parkour the faster you go and the floaty parkour kind of goes away as you do more combos sooo. I trust techland on what they do they haven’t disappointed yet so I have high hopes for the gameplay of dying light 2.

      @@mariobadia4553 do you mean the lip syncing because the voice acting is way better than the first game. Watch the recent trailers bro the voice acting is soo good, the main character that we play as has the best voice acting along side Rosario Dawson’s character.

    As someone who beat DL1 on the hardest difficulty I’d prefer the game to require faster reaction times rather than have it slowed down for other people who can’t keep up lol. They should have added that with easy difficulty… I liked the fast paced combat and slot second decisions

      I beat it on the hardest difficulty plenty of times myself, I understand where your coming from, but since the map is pretty, more vast, more to do, more parkour and free-running areas and potential to lose your shit.
      I prefer it slow, so I can take in the beautiful scenery and enjoy the animations and flow considering it's to Earth's gravity.
      But there are problems with your ideal approach, faster reaction times would probably kill off newer player's because their under heavy pressure, you can't just slow everything down more or make it really faster now, due to the maps design, it was built up from the ground up with this gravity. So your different modes wouldn't work.

    As a person who's practiced parkour in the past I can appreciate what they're going for, because as you are in the air you feel like you're floating and this "floatiness" that everyone mentions is actually quite more realistic than one would think take it from someone who's done parkour since the age of 12 all the to the 18 so in the 6 years I've done it it felt JUST LIKE THIS lol I personally don't think we'll have tp worry while yes some people might feel it's a bit unrealistic trust me if you go out and try parkour yourself you'll definitely see the resemblance when doing it in-game and real life =)

      @@ptdfloppa5715 its fun as heck man I haven't done it in so long due to an ACL injury I had at 16 years old in my right knee but at 17 I healed up through PT but at 18 I messed it up again somehow I'm 24 now but uuugghh I need to get back into shape I'm still able to run now but it'll take a good while for me to do the wallruns like i used to wall running, climbing, rolling,, and vaulting the most I wasn't to big on flips so it's just for show to me and I'm not that acrobatic 😅😂 but it's amazing I'm ready for this game and hopefully getting into parkour again

But there is no one around here that can do parkour or want to learn like me, and I'm the kind of person that doesn't have motivation if no one persuade me and do it with them. Also, the terrain here is really bad

    i think the floatyness, the hud (healthbars and zombie overlays) are too much. kind of wacky how you can even change direction TWICE while free-falling, how much do your hands need to be held throughout the game?
    from the gameplay about the sidequest i saw, AI is a bit dull, zombies are insensitive to sound and humans aren't.. alive. (better at fighting, very good at blocking, but they fight like they dont value their lives)
    sprinting animation while turning is a bit sad to look at.
    aside from those, everything seems amazing. i hope they plan to iron those out in early patches, otherwise it's looking like a $50 game rather than an $80.

      They said in some of their updates the zombies/humans will get more aggressive and better ai as your lv goes up and most of the HUD stuff will have manual turn offs.
      The side sprint is just what it is, it looks funky in pretty much any game where you have all way sprint.

      you can turn off the magnetism to objects, the hud can be turned off, and nothing can be done about the floatiness, the map was made with the floating in mind. and also the floatiness was to slow down the game a bit , since some people were having motion sickness in DL1

    I’m pretty sure the floaty parkour is going to make the new grapple hook a lot better. You’ll need more time to look exactly where you want to swing from and to.

      And that's why the Dying Light one parkour was so fun because it wasn't realistic. Running jumping and Landing had actual impact in the first game, but this one it looks like MC is inhaled a ton helium.

    I wish there was less floatiness, but I think it's a bit too late to change it considering the map itself was made with it in mind. Many jumps may simply no longer work if they tweaked it.

    Parkour is about making the right decisions on the move, scanning the environment ahead of you and envisioning how you gonna get across certain obstacles.
    That is what makes parkour fun and engaging taking away any chance for an error makes the whole system trivial and unrewarding
    The parachute is also another safety net that saves you from a bad decision with a press of a button

    I know they are going for realism in gravity, but the perception of the person is different. Like when people drive really fast for example if you are in the car it feels as fast but from a outside look it doesnt look as fast as of being in the car instead.
    So maybe it will look cinimatic from another players view in perspective it feels way too slow.

    you left out the part where he clarified that he did it to also stop people from getting motion sickness. it's not just about realism, it's also about the people that can't play for long periods of time due to the motion sickness people would get from the first game. He added the best of both worlds for that reason and i feel everyone should reserve their judgement until the game actually comes out or until tomorrow when the sidequest gameplay gets shown.

He was just telling me tonight how much he enjoyed playing Dying Light 1 but couldn’t play it for long periods of time because he experienced really bad motion sickness playing it. It would be cool to have a setting that you could enable or disable to make it less “floaty” like someone else already mentioned. It doesn’t make or break the game for me as I like the explanation the devs gave for the reason it was implemented and I think the creativity behind what you do will be a nice feature.

    I hate the floaty parkour. I despise it. I want to sprint across a roof and launch myself at a building with no arc. I want to fly practically straight at the building and barely make the jump.

    I don't feel like the floating aspects of parkour are going to slow down the pace of traversal. From all the game play I've seen, traversal actually looks faster and smoother than it did in DL1. I mean, to be frank, in the game play you showed of DL1, you can see how unpolished and just slow certain animations are, really slowing down the pace of traversal in general. Having the option to make more choices in air is always a plus, obviously.
    I see where some people with this opinion are coming from but it all just seems like a pointless argument to me. I see the benefits it's gonna have and the positives it'll have to traversal in general. Taking those aside, it still looks really damn nice. The rocket boots comment though is just something I disagree with in general. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like a fall from the heights in question in the clips shown is pretty natural and realistic.

      In DL1, you get faster animations as you level up agility by doing parkour, the gameplay he showed is honestly horrible (and in one of the least vertical areas of the game)

      @@ShadowMXify I have maxed out agility on DL1 and could hop on right now and see the same issue I described. The game itself and the parkour system was very unpolished, often times sending players the wrong way or flat out not letting them go the way they want to begin with. Certain animations begin slow and end quickly before its time for them too, while in DL2, all the animations so far have a clear start and end. Everything looks better in DL2. Peoples biggest complaint is the floaty gravity not realizing just how short you're in the air for. Doesn't really even matter. This is exactly like the Spiderman puddle controversy from 2018. When your actually playing the game and doing these moves, you're not gonna stop what you're doing and go "huh, I was in the air for a millisecond too long." Nobody cares; just like how Nobody cared that the puddles in Spiderman 2018 weren't photo realistic.

Air time isn't as long as people like you claim it is nor is it "as apparent". It's actually very realistic and fun to just play around with. You can physically feel your character being weighed down by gravity with every jump, similar to how things are in real life. Are gamers this far down the stupidity trail that they have to complain about every tiny thing they dislike? Yes, yes they are. Prime example: you. Me comparing this to the Spiderman puddle controversy is now proven to be a successful analogy.
      Edit: Having slow reaction times has absolutely nothing to do with being stupid or not, by the way. That right there immediately made me stop taking you seriously.

    I mean DL1 felt fine because we had no other reference to what we should feel like in that scape
    The floaty parkour took a few seconds and my eyes realized how much better it is
    The smooth almost "automatic" seemless mantle over objects because of the floaty step ups looked a lot better.
    The heavy sluggish behavior when you have landed a jump, while adding to immersion, someone running for their life and spent their life doing parkour, our character shouldn't feel like crane did, crane wasnt a professional at it, our character in 2 seems born into it

      @@void7837 Wait, Video games aren't real life? Shit, professor, I didn't realize. Thanks for the red pill and all Morpheous but I was talking about the story telling aspect of why the parkour would feel differently.
      In DL1 you started out not knowing shit, you leveled to legend to be better at parkour and combat.
      Crane was literally dropped into it, this player was probably born into it.
      From a development perspective it makes more sense that your starting character for the second game is on par with your legend from the old game.
      Again, its just part of story telling. Not everything is told to you through dialogue and cutscenes.
      Also immersion exists.

    If you've ever done parkour you would realise that this is kind of realistic because when I'm doing massive jumps it actually feels like I'm floating a bit and time kind of freezes too its so hard to explain but it feels like you have plenty of time to make decisions while in motion

    I can't say i dislike the parkour's floatiness, but i can't say i like it either, since I've only since clips and haven't played so I'm trusting the devs on this and if it doesn't work out we can always hope that someone in the modding community can change it.

      @@chrisnotpratt1903 You can do it in the first game for sure but with the awful gravity in DL2, you don't even need as much momentum and height to do such a thing which makes it weirder. Even after that 180 degree turn he still took like 1 second to land a few inches below on the truck.

    As a Traceur and Parkour Instructor I can say that it is still too floaty and does not represent what happens in real life, those jumps and roll falls defy gravity but not in an immersive way, and if we compare it with DL1 you can see that Crane didn't jump that high or that far. If you ask me, the developers' explanation is bullshit, only they believe it. Why ruin what already worked?

      The times he jumps 8 ft high is only when he jumps on trampolines which would be one of bonuses from a mission line

    I personally think the floatiness of the parkour isn't to bad but I would like it to be a bit less pronounced. Maybe find a middle ground where you still "hover in the air for a sec" so you have time to think about where to go next but have it be half as long as it is now.
    I'm pretty sure they've gotten way to far in development to change the gravity values since they have built the world/parkour with that gravity value in mind and if it was higher you probably would miss or undershoot a lot of jumps. They would have to rebuild almost all structures and things you can climb on just to make them work with a higher gravity value.
    I would really like to not wait any longer then I have to for release and it's not big enough of a problem (if you even think it's a problem) for them to delay the game for another year.
    TL;DR: Floaty is ok but I wish it would make you hover in the air for half the time. Techland has gotten to far to change the floaty feeling of the parkour because they built everything around how it is now and would have to rebuild a lot if they were to change it to be heavier. I'd like to play the game ASAP and avoid any more delays, I feel it's not going to ruin the fun to keep it how it is.

    I agree. I wish it was more like ghost runner and dishonored, I like being fast and having to make decisions on the fly. I’m hoping that at least on the harder difficulties it’ll still be challenging to get away from running enemies like volatiles and infected. It’d be good if this time around the “monsters” are even more of a threat.

      @Treyllo I see what you’re getting at, but the parkour is far more realistic in this game than it was in the first one. For example, the rolling mechanic. In the first game, the roll was literally just a somersault. If you do that in real life whilst jumping from a high spot, you’ll break your neck. In this game, the roll actually involves tucking your shoulder, which is what parkour experts do. The climbing is more smooth, and not as rapid as the first, which makes it even more realistic. The lack of animations in the first game made the parkour less realistic. I loved the first game, but I’ve done parkour for the past 5 years and I can tell you it is way more advanced in this game than it was in the first. The fast paced parkour in the first game is just not on par with the real thing. In the real world, you don’t want to be overly fast because it can lead to death or severe injury. Obviously this is a game. The speed of the first game might feel a bit more fun for experienced players, but you have to make it fair for everyone. I understand that they should compensate for the skilled players, but I also see why they’ve done what they have. Not to mention that, as a lot of other people have stated, the world was built on this system.

But from my own experiences with parkour, you actually do get a feeling of “floatiness” when you’re jumping from high places. I agree that, had they toned up the speed a little more, it could have helped some of the people who were fans of the first game’s parkour rather than this system.

    I think they really need to improve just how the camera interacts with your movements too. In 1 it would blur the faster you went, zoom out when you were making a huge jump, go dark when you were running out of stamina, be slightly bobbing constantly cause you're a human being obviously your head moves.
    In 2 it just feels like the camera isn't part of Aidens body, there's no reaction to what he does it just stays static.

    i can literally feel in the footage the moment where the character glides for like half a second, it feels very unnatural. I dont mind the jump lasting longer but that hang time is very jarring

    i prefer the fast pace parkour too. but i think the "floatiness" was a hacky fix to the inconsistent climbing mechanic. in the DL1 the fact that you had to look up to grab some ledges was horrible. especially when missing that ledge meant you falling to your death. i'd rather see them improve the ledge mounting to feel better instead of just adding a setting to "increase the stickiness"

    I think what also makes it so floaty is the moment in the air where you stop moving up or down because it feels and looks a bit wired to me

    Agree with you. The fast-paced parkour of the first game never was a problem to me. This parkour may be more realistic, but it's a video game and we should get what looks and feels the best

    I don't mind it being in the game, not everyone buys it for the parkour, but it being forced onto everyone because "it's too difficult and fast otherwise" is the complete wrong way of doing it.
    This is essentially inaccurate/balanced aim assist of parkour. New players gets the satisfaction of doing flawless parkour without training, while old players with hundreds of hours gets dragged down by it. Either have the entire system togglable in the settings *(like a difficulty slider)* or make a dedicated button for it.
    When I heard that they hired David Belle as a consultant, I got VERY excited for the parkour. I'm still excited, but it has certainly dropped.

    You have to remember that it may look ridiculous when you're watching it. But when you're playing it it's perfect, they intended for the gravity to be this way to make the parkour as realistic as possible.

    At first I was concerned about it but the more I saw of the gameplay the more I understand why they did this I think that it will still be as good as dying light 1 if not better it's not just about realism it's also Because some people can get motion sickness which I'm pretty sure the guy in the video said so it will be fine

    I think something that would fix the floaty look of the parkour is making the landing harder or rougher and use that has a time for players to choose there next move instead of an extended animation

    The parkour doesn't worry me too bad but yesterday I watched OniZombies play the game and the one thing I don't like is how the blood and gore isn't as good as the first game. The bodies don't get bloody like DL1 and chopping up bodies also doesn't look that good

    Regardless of how you feel about it asking them to change it is fucking ridiculous and just shows how complainers know nothing about game development, they literally built the entire game around it so you can easily assume that there is A LOT of thought put into it, when it comes to parkour/combat they know what they are doing, the areas that I’m hoping to see good changes in are the writing and the open world.

    As a basketball player, the “floatyness” is realistic, when you make a big jump you get suspended in the air for a brief moment, that gives you time to land correctly without injuring your ankles, knees or hips. I like the floatyness.

    I kinda like this choice because in the first game you were too fast and if I thought I was going to over shoot a jump I'd try to slow down but would just stop immediately it didn't feel like I had momentum and it was to fast for me to compromise my route when running. They have said you can turn off the magnetize option in order for it to feel more natural if we want that.

    Honestly, I think it will work well. DL1 had some heavy gravity, and its caused plenty of underestimated jumps, here it will be the opposite. Plus, the new parkour moves like the overhauled tic tac and the awesome vault leap makes it look really cool, even if it seems weird at first. And given that they changed the max falling speed to the actual gravity of Earth, it kinda makes you feel superhuman thanks to all the other parkour moves.

    Another reason is in dying light 1 the fast parkour was giving people motion sickness so they wanted to slow it down. Also TH-camrs who have played has said that you get used to the parkour and it only feel weird in certain situations like in slow motion

    They should change it for the exact reason you said I love face pace shit and it blended extremely well in dl1. Especially in pvp which is why I still play dl1 it’s very fast and advance and I love that. This feels and looks way to slow and it’s not smooth it almost looks like your delayed it really needs tweaking. A couple milliseconds isn’t going to make a big impact on deciding what to do. If you just play the game you’ll get used to it and it will feel and look better. The other thing I miss was high pressure at night. Now night time feels like a bitch Bcs there’s no more volatiles. We need them to make night time feel threatening or moments when you have to confront them.

    Very risky and ultimately unnecessary change in the parkour system. They can most definitely update it into what we want with options to enable realistic airtime for increased challenge. I don’t think we should settle personally, let’s help them craft the ultimate user experience so it can truly go down as one of the best. 💯
