In the first step of this experiment the tires and the wheels, two major variables, were changed at the same time. With the tires, there were actually three variables: AS tire to summer tire, 20" tire to 18" tire, and OE tire to the pure eco-oriented ECO Contact 6. Then there are the two wheel variables: going from a 20" wheel to an 18" wheel, and going from a heavy wheel to a much lighter wheel. So, all in all, there were at least 5 variables, not counting the variable test conditions. Each one of the variables probably had an effect on the measured efficiency. The question is: how much effect did each of the variables have?
This is all true...
But I can't afford to just buy more tires lol
Great video Ed, thanks.
We’ve all been waiting for a test like this.
I don’t like having other people on my road either!
😂😂
Thx for the comment!
i like how you made your Ioniq 6 look like the Elentra N or any of the N lines. Great thorough video btw! Thanks for the shoutout :)
Gotta be unique!
Thx for the comment!
@@edsgarage001 Thanks for doing this test- I think Hyundai made a huge mistake with these 20" wheels. I would much rather have 40 miles more range with the 18 stock wheels. Really didn't buy this car to race around and the smaller wheels mean more rubber so a smoother ride.
Appreciate you taking the time
Thanks!!!
So, it doesn't sound like having two sets of wheels and tires, one for summer and one for winter makes a lot of sense since most of my driving is surface road commuting. Considering the fact that those smaller wheels look so nice, I will probably sell the 20's and run those spectacular looking 18's all the time.
Nice video.
Thx for the comment!
I've kept both... My plan was to sell the bigger ones, then decided I still like them a lot and they're better for handling.
My 2023 Ioniq 5, my son who is a red Seal mechanic installed my ordered Fastco EV01+ 20 inch wheel with TPMS sensors and did the program and the Ioniq 5 had no issue sensing the TPMS sensors. Those wheels are just slightly off on the hub diameter and will work on my Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD, this set was ordered with Michelin Cross-climate 2 for late fall winter and early spring tires that are great for my Vancouver - Calgary Edmonton & Edson regular road trips.
That's great! I wish my tech could have figured it out.... But unfortunately they're not working yet 😕
Thanks! About to pull the trigger on an Ioniq 6 and was going to go with the SEL RW for range...but knowing I can swap the rims for these sweet ass 18 inchers and get all that range back means I can get the AWD :D
You will won't get as much as the rwd... But it'll be a huge improvement for sure
It is a great video, a real road test is always the best, btw how to make those red line under the door?
Thx!
I used orange pinstripe that I bought on Amazon
We love the EV01s on our Leaf Plus
Yeah they're pretty good!
@@edsgarage001combined with Sailun eRange tires its very good
Thanks for sharing your results. You really put a lot of work into the videos. I just wanted to share a similar result and have always wondered if aero wheels or even larger wheel size have that much of a difference on fuel economy. I have a 2020 sonata hybrid and stock wheels were 17 in, however I upped it to 18 and chose a stock black polished rim that is not aero. But to be honest I am surprised with the fuel economy. My mixed driving result one day from Delta BC to Vancouver BC (about 35 kms) was 3.7l per 100kms. That is way above the epa of 5l per 100kms. I am getting better fuel economy than the sticker. But wheels impacting it much or at all? I would say no. Ride comfort though has sacrificed. Anyways its good to see your results as well which are similar.
Thx for the comment!
Awesome tests Ed.. thanks for sharing!! By the way you have to click your fingers 6 times for the rain to stop 😮
Ahhh thx, good to know! 😄
Or summon Q from Star Trek TNG. 😂

@@edsgarage001 Well….where you a merry man? 🤣
I am NOT a Merry man!
Damn, I need to watch through the series for the 43rd time
Great test Ed!! We have the stock Preferred AWD 18" and at 90kph we get very similar efficiency or maybe a little lower (high 13's). That's highway driving here in the hilly, mountainy Kootenays. It kills it's EPA range. But the biggest thing that impacts our efficiency is WIND so maybe you got a breeze with the covers on?? That would explain the difference with the covers.
Possibly...
I'll know more during my cross country trip. I'll be passing through the Kootneys. We should meet up!
@@edsgarage001 That would be great . . . except I am in the Okanagan right now doing soccer duty with my daughter for the next few weeks and my partner and son have the EV in the Koots! Lucky them. 3 people and 1 EV makes for some great games of rock-paper-stones. I lost.
Well we're leaving July 17th, passing through the Okanagan within a few hours.. probably stop there for a charging session actually lol
I have same 18" AWD, I just got 14.36 kwh/100km driving from Victoria to Osoyoos. Doing speed limit at least (mostly 100+). Much higher than the official stated range for AWD, prolly because it was running in RWD Eco. It would be cool to see you run your non stock high efficiency tires vs stock base wheels. I'm thinking the difference will be negligible. Those stock 20" just really kill the range. I also got 15.3 from Revelstoke EC charger to Hope EC charger, and that's flying down the Coquihalla at 120+.
Yeah I've been getting about that lately actually....
The test I did was not ideal for range as I had some people I had to pass, and that mountain in the middle certainly didn't help. But it was more of a comparison anyway.
The tires and wheels I bought are more efficient then the stock 18" tires and wheels, but probably only a tiny bit.
Hi Ed, Thanks for your good work. Does changing the wheels/tires from 20 inch down to 18 inch effect the Hyundai warranty?
I’m considering an SEL but then changing wheels.
No, it definitely does not affect warranty.
Thx for the comment!
Nope, but it effects the owners economy. More than 18" on a std vehicle is madness!
Love these tests. I love that you can get more range by swapping to a smaller, lighter wheel. I wasn't sure that would be practical and it's an unfortunate trade off at the highest Ioniq 6 trims.
Yep, thx for the comment!
Agreed, and it's the same with nearly every EV, higher trim and larger heavy wheels. All EVs should option the rims/tires as a separate upgrade. Top trim with small wheels would sell well.
As for now you can only have the advanced AWD with 20" wheels.
18" and 225/55 tyres is perfect for this car.
No big news, really
Thanks for the informative test. I wonder if you would similar results if you could get the dealer to swap out the bigger wheels/tires for the smaller 18" factory tires /wheels from an SE? Also what color is your vehicle? Really like that blue/ grey combo.
Hey thanks for the comment!
So these wheels are 18 in from fast EV. They are slightly more efficient than the stock 18-in wheels. But not so much that it would make a huge difference I would think.
The tires however are much more efficient than the stock tires that come on the 18-in rims with the SE. So my guess is that this tire and wheel combo is probably affording us a slight edge over the stock 18-in tires and wheels.
The color is nocturne gray metallic, which is not available in the USA unfortunately. However I'm in Canada 🙂
The bottom is vinyl wrapped in piano black, and I got the orange pinstriping on Amazon.
@@edsgarage001 Thanks for the information. Too about about the color.
Hi again Ed. I’ve ordered a set of EV-01s and they should be here in a couple of days (you should get a commission). I hope you have your TPMS issue resolved.
One last question. Were you able use the lug nuts that came on the I6 or did you have to buy a new set?
That's a good question... I got new lug nuts because I wanted them to be black. They're a bit deeper than the factory ones.
Worst case scenario, if the original ones don't fit, a quick run down to the auto parts store will solve that.
What kind of tires did you use on the 18 inch rims? I'm swapping mine soon and I wanted to know your thoughts on a better tire to use.
Thanks a lot Ed! You saved me a ton of headache by doing the comparison. I can now opt for the top trim, swap the wheels out and keep the range. Could you please confirm if the tires were 225 55 R18s as I think you mentioned 255 in the video? Definitely hitting that subscribe button!

Do you happen to know if these rims will fit the US equivalent? 2023 Ioniq 6 Limited
Yep, the limited in the USA is pretty much the identical car. These rims will fit any ioniq 6, anywhere in the world.
@@edsgarage001Excellent! Thank you. Found someone to ship them state-side too. The inability to select smaller tires for the Ioniq 6 Limited has been really grinding my gears for a while. I can't wait to get these on there (and, naturally, drive to Nova Scotia from Maine later this year). This video was the perfect evidence that it made a difference. Thanks again.
My pleasure!
Hi Ed, great video. I've got an EV6 on order that is coming with 19" wheels. For winter for sure I am going to downsize to 18" with Michelin X-Ice low rolling resistance winter tires. The 18" rim should allow me some range improvement if I choose some nice light ones. For the summer I'd like to go EV01+ 18" and scrap the 19 OEM rims and tires. That'll give me more range as well. Any thoughts on the downside of going 18" all year round?
There's not really any downside unless you need to do some hard cornering or you don't like the looks... But aside from that, there's really no downside to smaller rims.
Don't scrap the OEM stuff though... Sell it 🙂
@@edsgarage001 Oh yeah, I'll sell it for sure. Was more concerned about the car being setup for 19" tires with all the electronics and then not being able to optimize itself with the 18" tires. Except for looks, everything I've read screams at me to downsize.
@@edmiddleton8138 the rim size doesn't affect the outer tire diameter. Your car has absolutely no idea that anything has changed.
Hi Ed, thanks for sharing this video. I'm thinking of doing the same but I'm wondering if you know the load range of the aftermarket rims vs the oem rims. I'm concerned these aftermarket don't have the same load capacity. Thanks
1576 lbs / 715 kg, which is more then enough for the Ioniq 6.
Thx for the question!
Better efficiency and those wheels look so much better
Yeah I really like the blacked out looks!
Thx for the comment!
Better efficiency - but worse handling and steering with theese 18” wobbely balloons !
Barely noticeable on the road...
I need the efficiency for the cross country trip. Then I'll be going back to the 20's
The original Ioniq 6 18" are ugly. Fits maybe on Tesla.@@edsgarage001
In watching you install the new wheels I had to wonder about the addition of the plates and their contribution to the wheels weight and balance. Perhaps a dynamic balancing of the wheels after the plates are installed would improve your numbers? just a thought
Good thought... But those plastic plates barely weigh anything. Plus they're all identical and the chances that there's any balancing issues are pretty much zero to none.
Considering the already very low weight, and the chances of one being a couple grams more or less, you can bet that it wouldn't make any difference.
@@edsgarage001 Thanks for the info, the Ionic has been the first new car to interest me in a while I got to drive the crossover with a fuel engine ( not sure of the dynamics ) but the feel was perfect. I'm interested in your research into the car to improve range, back to my original thought, given the plates added were light plastic I suppose their addition should be negligible, it is a step I would take. thanks for the reply
@@oldmike9451Ioniq*. Not Ionic.
Would you recommend switching to the smaller tires in the winter to try can gain back some of that range lost (as your going to have to purchase new tires anyway?) Or do the bigger tires help with grip, etc. in the snow?
Winter tires will always be better then the all seasons for grip despite the difference width on smaller tires.
But yeah, don't waste money on 20" winters. Go with 18"s.
The difference in unsprung weight and the flatter profile of steel rims will help reduce losses from higher rolling resistance of the winters
@@edsgarage001 Thanks for the great video! Would you have a recommendation for winter tires. PS: New subscriber...
Michelin tires for winter... Those new ones that I can't remember the name of lol
@@edsgarage001 You might be thinking about the Michelin Ice X3 or Xi3? Thanks again!
The ones I had in mind were actually the Michelin cross climates, they're an all weather tire.
But yeah, the x-ice series. They're pretty awesome too.
Hi Ed. A few other questions. How did you handle the TPMS? Did you buy a new set or transfer the old ones? Was programming them difficult? Thanks.
I bought new ones... But they're aftermarket and still aren't working. Apparently I'm waiting for the programmers to be updated so that we can reprogram them to work with the ioniq 6 🫤
When you say programmers to be updated, who or what are you referring too. Would it have been simpler to transfer the old ones. I'm looking at getting 18's and going a similar route. Any idea what a set of I6 Ultimate wheels and tires with 3k tread wear would be worth? Thanks. Your videos are great.
The devices that tire shops have that program the actual TPMS sensors need to be updated.
There's special programmers specifically for the TPMS sensors that I bought.
As for your other questions. Yeah it probably would have been easier but I plan on keeping the 20-in wheels and tires.
To be completely honest I have no idea what they're worth though.
How is the Ecocontact 6 in term of noise (compared to the OEM installed 20 inch P-zero?) and comfort?
Thank you!
A little more noise (negligible). But a bit softer on the road, so a bit more comfortable ride.
They definitely don't handle as well though thanks to the extra tire sidewall.
Slightly better acceleration thanks to the weight loss.
Recommend doing g the test at night (10ish) when there's no traffic
I think there was enough similarities in the runs even with the traffic.
I'll need to wait until it's still 23°C at night.
But yeah, I've thought about doing that.
Thanks for the comment!
Hi Ed , I recently replaced my 20" wheels with 1 8" , I got the complete package from pm tired in quebec. Rims, tires, this sensors mounted and balanced delivered . I am very happy with this configuration . But today was the first time we drove more than 10 km and what appeared on the instrument cluster was an error message . Check tire pressure monitor ing system.
How can I have my 2024 ioniq6 preferred and long range recognise these new sensors?
I was told when I ordered these that they would be programmed for my car??
Tgh
You'll need to go back to the company you bought the sensors from and tell them that they're not working. They will need to provide a solution or refund your money.
Or check with the company that installed the tires, perhaps they didn't program them correctly.
It's also possible that it will take more then 10km for the car to learn the sensors.
Hi Ed, did you have to adapt the speedometer/computer in order to get accurate speed/miles distance ? would the warranty get expired because changing the tire size the car came out from factory ? I live in NC and currently with winter weather my battery is no charging more than 240 miles range and it is only 6 months since I bought it. I am crossing fingers the range will get back high during warmer season.
Actually, it's only the rim diameter that changes. The outer diameter of the tires remains the same. So there's no change in speedometer reading.
You can make any alterations you want without voiding your warranty.
If you damage something, then coverage for that damage will be denied. But warranty will resume once that thing is repaired.
Yes, your range will go back up in the summer, that's normal for EV's.
On an ioniq5, RWD, at 22c, i can run pretty efficiently around high 12kwh/100km, around 40mph on the 20in stock wheel.
Yes, but imagine how much better it could be with 18's!
Did they stop offering these tires in this size? The biggest that Continental lists on their site is 245/45 for 18". Do you recommend any alternatives?
It took me a bit to find a site that sold the right size.... But they're out there.
I bought mine at black circles . Ca
The aero covers probably changed the tire noise signature. Was the odometer distance traveled exactly the same with the 20" and 18" sets?
Yes identical distance traveled during each test.
I think in order to get a better result with the aero covers, I'd need to drive a higher speed. (Or rather, to see a bigger difference I'd have to test at higher speeds)
I asked about switching to 18-inch wheels and the maintenance manager told me they could not do it becasue the Speedometer and motors were calibrated to the 20-inch wheel and going to 18-inchers would mess up the car. So this is possible, I can't wait to let them know. Thank you,
I wouldn't even go back there, they should not be working on cars if that's what they think. 😆
The overall tire diameter doesn't change... Only the rims change size.
There is zero effect on the speedometer.
@@edsgarage001Thanks SO MUCH! for clarifying this. I had thought that changing wheel size would require re-calibrating the speedometer, as smaller tires would turn more times for a given distance. I didn't realize that the overall size of the tires were the same for different wheel diameters.
Lower rolling resistance tires trump aero wheels. I put some EV-01s on my Chevy Bolt. I alps swapped out my Michelin Energy Saver A/S for Cross Climate 2. The aero wheels in no way compensated for the higher rolling resistance of the Cross Climate 2s. Personally it was worth it for the extra grip and wet/snow performance.
That's why I did both... I got the lowest rolling resistance tires I could find, plus these aero wheels
I put the EV01+ on my Bolt also. I did it pretty much as soon as I bought the car so I just transferred the stock tires to the new rims. It only translated to about a .2 mi/kwh improvement generally speaking. So the weight advantage wasn't as big as Ed's with the Ioniq 6 and those 20's. It is a pretty expensive upgrade for the not a a great deal of improvement for the Bolt. It looks like it would be worth the upgrade on the I6. The weight difference isn't as large a difference with the Bolt. The improvement may be larger when running at higher speeds, but I drive for efficiency so I am driving at slower speeds. People driving at higher speeds might see a bigger improvement than I have seen.
The aero adapters help for higher speeds, but the weight reduction helps for stop and go.
I tow a Bailey caravan here in the UK. It's a 6•2mtr 2 berth but clearly bigger than yours. What does yours weigh when you are towing it? Is this relevant as both would seem to create similar wind resistance with their slab sided fronts?
On our 15000km road trip we were 2600lbs total, with us, the trailer, and all our stuff.
Ok, I live in California and recently purchased an Ioniq6 SEL with the 20" Rims. My question is "When fully charged how many miles does it show on the display" with your tires and rims"?
That's actually completely irrelevant... Because you and I have different driving styles and we live in very different places.
The range display is always a guess. It's actually commonly known as the Guessometer, or "GOM"
But to answer your question, I can fairly easily get over 300 miles of range since the swap. ... That's driving mostly highway.
The 18" wheel variant of the AWD ioniq 6 actually has a higher EPA range rating then the 20" AWD ioniq6.. and it's pretty much all down to the lighter and narrower wheels.
I have the SEL single motor and I get 305 miles. Would I get the 351 miles that the SE is advertising?@@edsgarage001

I noticed that you were using a floor jack to lift the car. Can I use a floor jack anywhere on either side of the car or are there specific points underneath the car that I can safely jack up from? I don't want to possible damage the battery pack on the underside.
There are jacking points on the pinch weld. You'll notice two notches in a vertical chunk of metal just to the rear of the front wheels and another spot just in front of the rear wheels.
If you use a floor jack, you'll need to use a pinch weld adapter on the floor jack pad.
Is there a specific pad that I should use for the Ionic 6 and what might you advise me to use if I need to remove the tire from the vehicle?
Search for "Jack pad"
They look like hockey pucks with a slit down the middle.
@@edsgarage001 Thanks again Ed. Do you recommend any particular jack to your if I have to remove the tire for repair in an emergency? I promise this will be my last question.
@Piperflyer1944 if you're just using it to change tires... Then a simple scissor jack would be the easiest and cheapest option. Plus they generally already have the slot for the pinch weld already.
If you're wanting a floor jack, then no I don't really have any particular recommendation.
What was the size of the OEM tires. A tire width difference could also account for efficiency difference.
Absolutely,
The OEM are definitely wider. I think I mentioned as much in the video.
The width of the tires, along with the rolling resistance of the type of tire and the overall weight all contribute to better range.
Also how much approximately is 4 tires plus 4 wheels?
Thanks!
About $3500cdn for the set I've got
Hey Ed, any update on the TPMS? I just had these wheels installed and looks like I can’t get the TPMS to work…
Honestly I gave up.
Apparently once the programmer they use is updated, it should be possible to make them link up.
Contact the company you bought them from and ask for compensation or a resolution.
I haven't gone down the whole road yet
I didn't go for the TPMS when I changed to 18". If you don't feel when you're getting a flat tire....But you have to live with the reminder now and then.
This model drives much better with 18" wheels, imo.
Yeah I'll switch to and from the 18's back and forth.
I'll be using the 20s for my track day in June though
wow. thats a big difference. I am in USA. what does a set of these wheels and tires cost here?
Probably somewhere between 2500 and 3000 for the set.
I'm in Canada, our prices are going to be higher here.
Do you think it would make a difference if the trailer had EV tires, etc?
Probably a bit. But the trailer tires are very narrow, and pumped to 50.psi. so I don't think it would make a noticable difference
At 2:46 I wanted to confirm you said 255 width tires on the 18 inch rims I thought the SE model came with 225 width tires and I didn’t know you can get the fast wheels in that larger width.

Is that orange application on the side original? The issue; 225/55 18" = R2150 and 245/40 20" = R2147.
No, actually neither is the black along the bottom.
After having a company add the black vinyl to the rocker panels, I added the orange pin stripe 🙂

How did you compensate the speedo reading with the smaller circumference wheels?
Only the diameter of the alloy rims is smaller.
The outer diameter of the tires doesn't change. You'll notice there's more tire sidewall with smaller rims.
@@edsgarage001
Rolling distance pr turn does differ on your tires 18” vs 20” in different with ! check the manufacturer specs.
Check your speedo with GPS is certainly recommended.
On the Ioniq5 with 19” std wheels ,,,speedo show +6 km/h,,,,with optional 20” wheels having 12 cm longer roll distance it dropped to +2 km/h ! So theoretacially it should run longer, but the rolling resistance is greater with the wider tires, and that’s the real problem.
Btw why care about the efficiency when you have the fastest charging platform on the market, -it will compensate.
I prefer the better roadhandling and steering with 20” wheels over the efficiency, and cost/km ;)
@steffenjensen9350 the speedo is bang on with gps speed.
When I'm pulling a trailer for my cross country trip, I want every km I can get.
The tire circumference of the 18" on the ioniq 6 is only 0.1" difference. That's not enough to really make any difference
@@edsgarage001 As long as you stick to 55. When 45 it differs.

I have an "Ed's garage" on Facebook... But I honestly don't do much with it.
How do you recalibrate the car for the new wheel diameter? So that the odometer and speedometer readings are correct despite the smaller circumference of the new tires?
The tires don't have a smaller circumference.... Only the rim diameter is smaller. The outer diameter is the tires doesn't change.
@@edsgarage001 Thank you for your swift reply! I just started shopping for an EV so I clearly have a lot to learn! I have found it frustrating that in order to get the surround view camera that I want, I have to accept larger diameter tires regardless of which brand/model I look at. However, I hadn't considered just replacing them. Most brands also offer Surround View Cameras on AWD models which also reduces their efficiency. Perhaps I should consider an aftermarket surround view system.
On the ioniq 5, 6 and Kona EV's you can get surround view and 2 wheel drive.
Thank you very much for this video. I've had an I6 SEL for over a month and am very disappointed in the ride. It's unsettled and you feel every imperfection in the road surface. Did you notice an improvement in ride quality with the 18s"? I traded in a 2016 Sonata Plug-in that had a much better ride. I don't understand why Hyundai would only put the 18s on the lowest trim. Most people buy this car for the range and it takes it quite a hit with these stupid 20s. I''m not crazy about their look either.
I'm extremely disappointed in the wimpy stereo in the SEL. Not at all what you should get in a $50K plus car. The Sonata's stereo really kicked ass. This issue is for another day. The ride quality is what I need to address first.
Again Ed. Really appreciate the video.
Thx for the comment,
My opinion differs a bit... But to answer your questions, yes the 18" do indeed help for ride quality a bit.
But check your tire pressures, if the technician that inspected your vehicle when it came to the dealership forgot to check, then they're probably still at a very high PSI. (This prevents flat spots during shipping) They should be around 35 PSI each. That would also increase the harshness of your ride, if they're in the mid 40's.
Keep in mind about $25,000 worth of the vehicle price is just the battery.
Thanks for the quick reply and tip. Unfortunately they are already at 35 PSI. I have to decide if the cost and bother is worth it. My wife likes the wheels, I don’t. Another consideration. But if there’s an improvement in the ride, even a little, and it’ll add 40 miles more range, it may tip the scales to do it.
You should try 15in wheels like they have on the Ioniq Hybrid
Anything smaller then 18 won't clear the calipers.
The Ioniq hybrid is a much lighter vehicle with smaller brake rotors.
@@edsgarage001I've been considering switching From the hybrid to the EV but I'm still unsure of almost halfing my range
How often do you drive beyond 400km/250 miles?
And when you do, do you find it's a big deal to charge up for 20 to 40 minutes after having driven for 5 hours?
That's the way I look at it 🙂
Plus, an ev is a whole lot nicer to drive.

So i called wheel wizz back and they said that customs could charge me up to 400.00 more or nothing at all, 50/50 chance! I canceled the order. Sure wish I lived in Canada. Waaaa. Lucky you. I really wanted those rims.
Oh, that sucks!
What about ordering directly from fastco?
@@edsgarage001 Ordered through Aftermarket EV in Florida which is tied to Wheel Wizz. Will have them on the 5 of September. Better price and no taxes!
Excellent
By speed limit, did you mean the low speed limit or the high speed limit? I'm kinda confused. Oh by the way, for the aero, I believe you are right. In general, you need to go faster than 80 km/h to feel the aero effect.
I'm not sure what part of the video you are referring to...
But when I say "speed limit" I'm generally referring to the posted speed limit signage on the roads that I'm traveling.
@@edsgarage001 ah I see, yes that's what I was referring to. Isn't that a high speed limit sign? Meaning that you can't go over but it's fine to go under?
Yes... But who wants to go under the limit? 😀
Some, unfortunately.@@edsgarage001
How do you reset the computer to account for 18 inch vs 20
You don't need to,
The 18" and 20" is just the diameter of the alloy rims.
The tires still have the same outer diameter, so there's no difference.
@@edsgarage001 If you stick to 55, yes. If lower. it's changing.
If you look up tire specs for the ioniq 6, no one is suggesting to use 45 with 18" rims.... So why would one do that?
Could you provide the model number of the Fast EV wheel?
EV01+
I did mention that several times in the video too 😉😉
@@edsgarage001 I was looking for the full model spec that includes width, offset, and seat. The 18” comes as a 8” and an 8.5”, each with varying offsets and seats and I don’t want to purchase a set of incompatible wheels for my Ioniq 6. Thanks!
Oh sorry,
Here yar:
EV01(+) 18x8.0 5x114.3mm +45 67.1mm BLK / SAT
Part #: FE01H(+)-1880-65BT+45C671
SKU: 1039060
@@edsgarage001 No worries. Thanks!
255? 55/18 and not 225? Did I hear that correctly. That's a big step up in width for just a half inch increase in rim width from standard 18's. And no rubbing issues?
I'm looking to ditch the 20's on my i6 long range RWD ultimate based on your thorough test and just wanted to check in.
Thanks for the vids.
Hello! Good catch .. no sorry, I misspoke, they're 225/55/18
@@edsgarage001 I thought a 30mm increase in width was slightly excessive 😉
Yep, that would have reduced the range somewhat. Lol
@@edsgarage001 And the steering, he,he.
Boggled me why it is impossible to spec the top trim with 18s. Those 20s are pretty, but I'll take more range/less charging time any day
I lived with a 200km 2017 Ioniq for 6 years before I got this one. So considering it's twice the range even with the bigger wheels, it doesn't bug me at all.
It appears the major contributing factor here is weight?
I'd say it's 50/50 weight and aerodynamic drag of the trailer... At least for the towing result.
For the range while NOT towing, it's probably 50/50 less unsprung weight and less rolling rolling resistance
I didnt see a mention of adjusting the speedometer to measure speed accurately with a different size wheel.
One rotation with a bigger wheel size covers more distance than one rotation with a smaller wheel.
Unless this car takes its speed and distance by GPS rather than tire rotation?
By not addressing this question everything that follows is suspect.
No, you're misunderstanding what happens when you change wheel size.
The 20" and 18" measurement, is for the wheel within the tire... It's the rim size, not the outer diameter of the tire that's changing.
So going down to a smaller rim, means the tires change as well, but only the inner diameter of the tire changes, not the outer diameter. So your left with more tire sidewall.
The distance your tire rolls, doesn't change.
The maximum Battery capacity is 74kwh usable
the rest is a buffer you can't use that
I know .. but official range estimates are based on 77.4kWh. So I'm just following suit
Besides, without the mountain, the numbers would have been better too.
Interesting that Bjorn says the usable is 75.1. Mountains??? I think that might be another good test. We do a LOT of mountains in the Koots and still get a very similar efficiency to flatter driving. This car loves mountains.
Not when you're pulling a trailer.. mountains are the killer, because now it's less about wind resistance and more about lugging extra weight upwards.
I didn't think that you could drop to a smaller tire/wheel size without changing the computer programming.
The rim is a smaller diameter, but the tire diameter remains the same... It just has fatter sidewalls.
Is this the Limited trim?
In Canada, it's called the ultimate.... But yeah, same thing pretty much
@edsgarage001 Ah interesting.. good to know. I'm debating between getting this or a Model Y. Leaning towards this, but man in need a SUV, I'm tired of feeling like I'm falling into my cars.
What about an ioniq 5? World car of the year for 22... Also has all the benefits of the 6, in an SUV form.
Charges significantly faster then the Y too
@edsgarage001 honestly somehow I forgot the ioniq 5 existed. Imma have to look into that.
Here's my review vid:

It won't be just the difference in RR, it's mostly the weight
Don't know why manufacturers keep using big and/or heavy wheels on EVs
They're less efficient than lighter wheels - just like they were on ICE cars
The Conti's won't last long ...
It's most definitely partly from the RR,
These tires specifically have the lowest rolling resistance in the market, and are summer tires.
The stock tires are decent, but they're all seasons and based on efficiency studies that I found, take far more power to push forward.
Most tires actually hover around the same rolling resistance +/- only about 5% in difference. But these ecocontact were way way way outside the norm.
It took hours of searching for this info.
I also don't really need them to last long.
I plan on driving across the country and back through the USA... Then I'm basically done with them.
@@edsgarage001 We had them OEM on our (lightly loaded) work vans that are lighter than the Ioniq 6 anyway, and fronts were wasted after 20 to 25000 km
So it's good that you don't need them to last
