I own a 2022 RAV4 Hybrid, rated at 40 mpg, and live in the southern U.S. In the summer, spring, and fall, I get 45-48 mpg! In the winter, that drops to right around 40 mpg. I'm quite satisfied with those numbers. 😊
Also important to now is how to jump start your hybrid if the battery is empty and how to avoid damage doing this? How to open the rear trunk or doors if there is no 12 volt available? Where is your 12 volt battery living and how to reach it? How to use the 12 volt + connector in the fuse-box? Were is your safety service plug and how to use it? How to start the car in maintenance mode? The do- and don'ts about the B mode driving. How to avoid damage to your gearbox using the electronic parking break? How take care of your hybrid cooling vent and what not to do? Lot's of things to learn folks !
Hybrids have the same 12 volt battery regular gas cars have. No problem with jump starting it. Hybrids still use gasoline engine at start and 12 volt battery.
Opposite effect here in Austin TX with our never ending hot 🥵 summer. I lose about 4-5 mpg’s during the summer because I’m constantly running my a/c. I typically get better fuel efficiency during the fall and winter months when I’m not running the a/c.
In the US, the EPA requires the use of Winter blend gas by October each year. The increase in butane and other additives in that blend is said to cause a 1 to 2% decrease in fuel efficiency but in my experience it’s higher than that. My 2019 Avalon has gone from 45-47 mpg in the warm months to 40-42 in winter in every year I’ve owned it.
I have the 2025 camry. I average mostly approx. 42 MPG but I do alot of Highway driving . To get the best MPG u need to do more city driving I have noticed so far . The car goes into EV mode in the city but not much on highway speeds .
May I ask what trim level of Camry do you have? I also read some reviewers stating at highway speed the interior noise gets intrusive. Do you have the panel roof have you had any rattle issues or noise emanating from there as well at highway speed. Thanks for any response
@jonathanratliff4780 unfortunately it has rattles in the driver side pillar area and yes the cabin doesn't block all the road noise out unfortunately. It is the SE camry I have .
I lose 1-2 mpg on every gas only vehicle I've owned. The colder it is, the worse the effects of the weather is on mpg. I think some of it is that the vehicle is pushing denser air.
2022 Venza in Alaska. I was getting about 44mpg over the summer. Now that it’s winter I’m getting 36-38mpg. I knew it would suffer a bit in the winter but I was hoping it wouldn’t be a 20% dip in fuel economy. Short trips get really bad fuel mileage. Under a few miles it gets 25-30mpg lol
I love the electric car with gasoline engine assist. I would pay extra even if the fuel economy was no better. I'm very happy with my 2013 Prius (and 2013 Mustang fastback). Someday the Prius replacement will have the Camry hybrid drive train (Crown or rav4?)
Modern Toyotas have always run rich in colder weather, regardless of power plant, tires or seasonal fuel changes. It’s an intentional feature of the fuel management system.
Hey Marcelo, I’m in Richmond Hill so not very far. Interested in the next generation RAV4, let me know if there’s a process in place to put a deposit down in lieu of that being released in the next year or so.
To take advantage of fuel savings you have to drive a particular way and other factors to take in consideration, is very difficult to drive a hybrid around inpatient drivers that wants to go 100 on a 60 zone ,passing on the left on residential roads clearly posted 30-40 and others bad driving habits, that being said toyota hybrids are great.
I did the math on the new RAV4 Hybrid. For me, it would cost more to own in ten years than a non-hybrid. I only drive about 5 to 8 thousand miles a year. The Hybrid would save me about $2500 in ten years which is around the life expectancy of the batteries although average life is 3 to 5 years. The batteries are 3 to 8 thousand dollars new or less for rebuilt or salvaged which is a gamble. This doesn't include labor which means more will be added to that amount. The Hybrid saves you money in fuel but ultimately costs considerably more if you decide to keep it until the batteries need replaced. A car worth keeping will not need expensive maintenance in the future outside of the already high cost of owning a vehicle ten years or more. The flux in fuel economy only makes owning a hybrid more unreasonable.
What is your point of reference for 3 to 5 year average hybrid battery life? I believe that to be totally inaccurate. The warranty on a new Toyota hybrid battery is 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. This applies to all Toyota hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell, and battery electric vehicles from model year 2020 and later. The batteries are designed to last morecthan 300,000 km or an average of 15 years
@@berniewatts6322 I googled this "how long will a 2024 rav4 hybrid nimh cell battery last" The answer comes from Santa Cruz Toyota. In some occasions it could last ten years. Eventually it will need replaced. My point was I'm keeping this car after I retire. I don't want added costs and troubles when I stop working. For me it doesn't make sense. But if your happy with your choice I'm okay with that, I can't explain this any clearer.

Well explained.
i purchased a 2024 sienna platinum awd at msrp and no dealer add ons.
I've heard fuel economy suffers during short trips in cold weather, the car doesn't get a chance to fully warm up.
Regular gas vehicles are effected by weather. At winter I get much less mileage out of my car than in summer. Everyone knows that.
So increase 5.2L/100km upto 6.5 is normal (with winter tires) and cooler temps?
Increased fuel consumption is normal on any vehicle that has winter tyres.
@ffotograffydd good to know
..thanks 👍

2026 RAV4 - Topgun #1
As well the car must consume energy to keep the occupants comfortable.
There's not much difference between winter and summer mpg with my diesel car, maybe 2%.
My RAV4 XSE hybrid has terrible mileage. Better than my V6 Avalon. So I’m not really complaining. I was just expecting more.
Cold makes every vehicle use more fuel in operation.
Trying to get more miles per gallon will reduce battery life
