dude, i´m not saying this as a parkour fan... i say this because i deeply feel it:
watching stephane talk like this makes me feel like everyone in the world should think that way.... The actual way that parkour is taking, and the world itself, would be much better. RESPECT.

100% agree. Everything included in one interview, so I can send it to every (more or less experienced) practicioner to help understand the principles. BIG respect Craig and Stephane!

    Merci pour le partage.
Se poser avant tout les bonnes questions pour au mieux pratiquer.
Le goût de l'effort, l'amour de se trouver soi même pour mieux se retrouver avec les autres. Une bonne introspection avant tout.

I think that if someone wants to stray away from pure parkour, then that is his/her choice. It is perfectly fine for that person to express themselves outside the definition of pure parkour, just as long as they don't bring down everyone else. Thank goodness that for the most part, the majority of traceurs have matured enough to have gotten over the freerun/parkour debate. We traceurs have come to realize that it is the individual who is most important, not his/her affiliations.

This is the stuff i like to see,
Hopefully anyone thats interested in parkour will see this and understand it, rather than watching all the other top parkour videos on youtube with the death defying stunts in them.
Too many get the wrong impression from those.

I feel so sorry for Yamakasi that have been working and training so, so hard and then people ruin (yes, RUIN) the dicipline with competition. They created all this....
but I feel good for you guys that actually stick to parkours orgins and share & help each other

To be honest I hold a lot of respect for 3Run, even though they're commercial. Despite their successes, they still still show a really humble, down to earth attitude. Yes, they don't do parkour most of the time, and they know that. They've made a pure parkour video a while back, which was very well done, so they know the difference, they just prefer to express themselves in a different way.

Nothing is worth doing unless it is done well. I think Stephane expressed that sentiment well. There are many young people that do not understand the concept of hard work.. Not showing up on time for a job or completing a project in a professional and timely way etc... These are basic things that life requires of anyone and if your parents didn't teach you, you need to get it somewhere... Namaste

i like to hear him speak because he never speaks negatively about this sport. the argument going on through freerunners/traceurs and people who dont do parkour freerunning needs to be ended by these men, stephane vigroux, sebstien foucan, david belle, people who just love the sport. whether or not people like seeing you do it, or care if you do it or pay you if you do it, its always going to be parkour freerunning. the originals like seb david and stephane dont argue about it so why should we.

Try to see the evolution of Parkour with a larger lens. All is happening just as it should be and when the dust settles, in time, you will always have what you carry of Parkour within. It is comparable to how I feel of meditation and the calm center I take with me everywhere and can access when ever I desire....

excellent excellent interview, its the best interview i ever watched,,so many thanks to you for sharing,,it really brithened many thoughts in mind and i totally agree with what stephane says, its awfuly whats happening , parkour or ADD is so close to the media, and people been folowing their ego to commercialize Parkour and promote Parkour competitions.because most traceurs are blinded by these tricks,,,

@Archigearour when you start to feel a strange a marvellous sensation of being connected with your surrounding and you are doing just the necessary movements to get where you want without wasting valuable energy then I think the outer influence that people exert on you is not so big. My self I try to think on what an animal would feel, they don't go around trying to impress anyone they just are, exist, they nature is being free, to me that is the most rewarding experience that the discipline has

Like Stephane said, It's the ego that's the major problem with competition. Because competition is competition, even if it's fun and not taken serious. You'll feel very good about yourself if you win a competition, and you feel good about yourself showing off infront of the cameras and the people. I believe everyone feel like this. I mean who HAVENT done a move in order to impress someone? I have. Alot of people have. But I don't do it anymore because I realized It's a weakness.

When I train with my mates, I find that when they can do something and I can't, I push myself further so I can catch up.
This worries me, as I am quite an outspoken advocate of the pure philosophies of parkour, essentially that it shouldn't be competitive.
I initially got into parkour to test and explore myself, and to teach myself to push my own boundaries. But I occasionally feel the urge to impress.

Well what it comes down to is greed, movies need stuntmen/women that have less risk and therefore cheaper insurance. Also being able to do the movements does have that 'cool' appeal that people are using to feel accepted.
Parkour is and always shall be a melding of the body and mind into a perfect instrument of motion and focus. Life in modern society is stop and go, where, when you practice parkour, its fluid and everlasting. it is the embodiment of what life is supposed to be.

another thing i want people to know is i wanna get paid to perform this sport or art not because i want a bunch of money, but because i want to do the thing i love all day every day. i just love parkour freerunning and i cant help but want to get paid for it. im not corrupted and im not greedy. i just want to do what i love and help spread it through the world anyway i can. its peace... parkour freerunning. the advice i follow no matter what is dont do it unless you loveit, forget about amount$

I was worried about the section you're referring to, b/c it can be a bit misleading. You should know that that was the last muscle up of a series of many, and he mad done many more intense work outs prior to it. The point was he told himself he was going to a certain number, and he did what he had to to make sure he did all of them.

Hear hear! Competition in Parkour RUINS EVERYTHING! And yes, it's stupid why anyone would want to compete when there isn't even a real yardstick to measure each and every traceur/traceuses' abilities. Commercialism!

  • @LOTRFreak993
    @LOTRFreak993 13 ปีที่แล้ว

@lim1819 I always thought the same. But the competition is mostly a get together where everyone has fun and no one cares who wins. There is just a great relationship between all of the guys and just express what they love to do. Only dif. is a winner is chosen though nobody really cares.

But dude.... he's just SO FREAKIN' GOOD!
...or at least he was back in the day...
It seems that PK Gens. and DB's little projects (NY, Berlin expos) are both working towards the similar ends, with similar values, attitudes, etc ....so as long as they're both working towards the same goal, I don't see where there would be any problems...
