    When I was younger, I used to watch David Belle's videos and Freerunning videos in awe, always thinking that the big jumps and the continuous tricking was extremely difficult. But now after almost half a decade into my training, I'm beginning to realise that maintaining constant flow with just pure efficiency, without mistakes made, is when you have truly mastered Parkour.

      As someone who has dabbled with both...no. just no. Both require training and discipline as do all things in life that matter at all. But that's about the extent of their differences other than conditioning. Fighting requires standing ground where as parkour would be like running away from the fight. That should only be done in "fighting" if they bring extra people, or weapons, or both. Which is why I now carry a gun bc I'm getting too old to run.

I think the people who practice parkour care because a lot (definitely not all don't get me wrong) of freerunners are just idiots who want to be cool and do some flips they aren't ready for. Traceurs don't want to be associated with those people.

      very true. I hate synchronized flips that gymnasts do and call it parkour which I guess is why he put the definition at the beginning. In my opinion that's what parkour is about and all that other crap can stay on the gymnastics floor where it belongs. Stunts are cool in appropriate settings but you are right that parkour is mainly about efficiency and speed of overcoming obstacles. hell even on the show the elimination challenge was based on fastest time to complete a course.

    I think what's special about this video, is that the runner has a GOAL... I don't know if he's thinking "I have to ESCAPE!" or "I've got to RESCUE someone!" but he has an urgency that elevates him from the usual self-conscious "performance."

    In a very long time aside from Belle, Parkour Generations. This is by far, thee best definition of PK that I have seen in all my time of being active in the sport. This beats doing flips ANYDAY (In my opinion atleast). Amazing, Fantastic, Outstanding flow, camera work, and hard work. I love it!!

    people need to get over the debate of parkour vs free running everyone has it style and place ! like saying flow isn't part of Parkour but in reality it is, just a different style. and flips shouldn't be looking down on them ! they are way too hard to do and overcome the fear of doing them on concrete

    • @JohannGTR
      @JohannGTR 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Technically, all of us do both. Sebastien Foucan said freerunning is more about finding your own way, and all of us follow our ways and have our own reasons in training parkour or freerunning, whether for show or to be strong so you can be useful. So, I believe, according to HIS definition of freerunning, then we all do it, as none of us train SOLELY parkour. Even David Belle does backflips from time to time. When asked why? It's fun. Just my 0.02$, but I think I may have a few mistakes there....

    I read an article years ago, by a Yamakasi member I believe, that stated how the greatest obstacle in Parkour is empty space. It went on to say how "empty space" is the least trained obstacle as well. The article talked about how most practitioners train for short bursts over obstacles, and lack the cardio to tackle a long sprint across a vast open space that has no vaults or jumps.
