- Part 1 of our parkour documentary. Made by practitioners, we have tried our best to ensure that this short film gives the most accurate information possible about parkour and the methods and ideas behind it.
It is a deliberate departure from the typical 'media parkour' you might see on TV and aims to provide reliable information to both newcomers and experienced practitioners alike.
Written by Dave Sedgley.
Produced by Paul Maunder.

I stumbled on this documentary about a year after it came out. This was one of the most exciting things on youtube i'd ever seen. It still holds up twelve years on. I can't tell you how much this impacted my perception on training PK.
When I lose track of myself and training, I always come back to this 4 part video for guidance and inspiration, it really sets me straight. I give my thanks to you guys for helping me get back into my routine time and time again. Love from Canada.
Crossfit may bring some cardio benefits, but for parkour training, parkour itself would be the best training! Also, the conditioning we do for parkour differs somewhat from the crossfit approach in that we focus on solid technique rather than absolute number of reps.
I have been watching this Documentary off and on since you first uploaded it. You guys are a real inspiration and do quality work. Keep running brothers.
ok. I just saw you 3 strengh training and conditionning for parkour (quite awsome btw) and now I see this.
I must say you guys rock. You explain a lot, you demonstratre a lot but I don't see the big ego I'm bored to see within a lot of parkour videos and free run videos (so many "best of parkour"). What you do is awsome, your vids are nice inspiration, and this is the kind of spirit I'm looking for.
Thumbs up !
^_^
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad that you find the videos useful :) We'll have some more on the way throughout 2014!
hey guys i really appreciate all your material ive gotta admit its probably some of the best stuff on here! thanks!!!
I like Your videos because in Your videos it isnt freerun. It is right PARKOUR :)
Splendid video guys. Way to go. Really proud of watching people really training hard and respecting and understanding the discipline its self.
This brings back memories. When you guys first released this video, I was a sophomore in highschool and I wrote an essay about parkour and referenced your documentary! There were almost no written or recorded sources of parkour at the time as it wasn't officially recognized by the public. I had to convince my teacher to allow me to site a TH-cam video for an essay because this was the #1 best source for Parkour back then!
this is the best documentary and explanation of parkour that I've found. Great Job
this is one of the best videos i have ever seen on youtube
In parkour, regular training will increase your strength and capability in a number of ways over time. The main thing to remember is to build up to things gradually over time and not to try and skip ahead by attempting movements you're not yet ready for. Train in this way, and you'll continue to become more capable, whilst avoiding injury :)
This serie explained a lot, was great!
@Pres2191 That's good to hear! We set out to make a documentary which people would find useful, so I'm happy that this documentary helped to inspire you to start training :)
thanks a lot for this documentary, really well made, precise on all topics on and around parkour, great moves, great music, great everything, with a bit of jokes too, this documentary deserves to be watched and known.
and great that it's made by you, who know and practice this sport and topic directly
I love Parkour because you race against yourself, nobody is a competitor, nobody is the enemy.
this is the kind of parkour stuff that I like.
Thanks you!
This is probably the best introduction I've yet seen. You've done some good work here, fellas.
Still such an incredible doc. Very little videos that depict parkour is such a constructive and accurate way.
Excellent video, very vivid and in depth descriptions of parkour and its movement, 10/10 :) .
One of the best things i saw,now the other three parts :)
Very nice guys!Kudos to you all!The videos have given me new ideas! Thanks!
um dos melhores videos que já assisti

FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for this wonderful vid, & keep up the great work!
This video needs more views.
At least 4-5 million views.
Thanks again, and I am amazed you just give this away. I have seen folks sell DVD's on everything from martial arts, to gutting and skinning a deer and this is one of the most well done documentaries I have seen. Truely amazing stuff!!!
you guys helped inspire me thanks
Awesome, Awesome video's - great work!!
Great on you man!!! I watched this and realized that I wanted to do more training.
Thanks. I'm glad that you find the documentary useful :)

Parkour: an ART form
Beautiful
Still a wonderful video even 13 years later
Hey mate im a traceur from Australia. This video is great as it allows me to show others what parkour is as many believe that it is just jumping off buildings. HOwever this video has changed them thank you.
great inspiration
man you guys are rediculous. this is some of the craziest and COOLEST stuff i have ever seen.... to those that dont like it id suggest simply not watching it. theres already enuff negativity in the world to have to be subjected to it on every video youtube has.....to you Parkour guys - keep doing what you do. i wished i seen this when i was younger. GREAT VIDEO.
Hats off to you mate, well put together video, and you described Parkour in a way that I simply didn't have the words to do. As a Free-runner myself, I could relate to what you were saying completely.
Keep up the good work,
- Ty - Rex Studios
This is so true everyone does parkour and i mean everyone because its fun and nice way to show off who disagree than youre foooling yourself The thing that people say its the way of life its just an excuse, trust me me myself doing for 6 years and i actually realised that in my 4th year. Whole time I've been fooling my self, but i have no regrets because i learned to use my spirit with my body together. Parkour helps you find balance.
Still great vid, all these years later
PURE NATURAL MOTIONAL MAGIC.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy the videos :)
@upperkatt It's never too late. Smart move starting with rolls, remember to always practice them though because they're tricky and if you don't do them for a while you could forget how.
this video is soo good :D
@Guill0rtiz well, we have spots, and not the worst kind of spots, but the ones i saw in this film.. they're just AMAZING!
Excellent! 5 out of 5.
0:36 was insane...along with everything
These are the things that the mass media needs to see when viewing traceurs, people who practice Parkour/Freerunning before jumping to any conclusions about the dangers, and risks of Parkour/Freerunning. They need to see our countless hours of practice and fails to know that Parkour is a lifestyle. #ParkourJourney
amazing very good video i am off to part 2 =)
You help me alot, i'm trying to get the deans at my school to allow us to parkour but we have to explain what parkour is first and you guys helped me find the words to say
i like how u put in the fact that some are shortening their lives doing things other than exercising
@Parkaution sweet thanks alot man your the best
Nice Doco's mate! very imformative! :-)
Thanks Marc. You should come along to one of the sessions sometime to give it a go!
@Obsidian1138 I just can't say enough about this documentary. I am adding it to my all time favorites list. :) Rock the world guys!!
ok,i know im leaving alot of comments, but my son sent me the link to this video ,to try and show me what parkour is all about, and im so glad that he did this because,i know now that this parkour comes from with in and if he likes doing this, then i think its awsome,it will make him stronger physically and mentally,i love this, wish i can do it with him,but im too old lol
Bloody brilliant that Paul, I must admit to knowing very little about your thing before I watched this but I have watched all four volumes several times and now feel equiped with vital knowledge. You are brave and strong and bloody good at using a camera :-))
Peace n love,
Marc.
i like how u put in the fact that some are shortening thier lives doing things other than exercising
friend sent this to me, very nice quality. i like it, if you told me this was filmed 14 years ago i would have a hard time believing it
I live in Singapore as well, and I've been practicing pk for a while now. It's actually a really really good place to do pk, because of the flats and the many many playgrounds we have all over the place. When you're better you can move on up to town, and especially the CBD, which is really really awesome for pk.
I recommend you start in the playgrounds first, and build up your strength and technique.
Parkour can be done almost everywhere you just have to imagine a little.
it so amazing and cool
what a beautiful, splendid video. I hope you win all kinds of awards for it.
Inspiring, informational, enlightening. What more could we ask for?
I'm headed outside now to try some of the conditioning exercises (and to make up my own.)
Thanks,
Scott
very well said at 5:40.."there are no formalities, etiquette, standards etc,. ; )
good video.
I didn't start until I was 25. The earlier you can start though, the better!
damn.. all of you got awesome dynamic :O
AWESOME! X)
this is so cool
guys you are the best :D
@Obsidian1138 Nice video guys. It's made me start training my body up before getting out in the streets.
Really nice video
i love parkour
I b33ping LOVE ur vids, Holy sheet, keep me motivated
@TheBarryNoVa The very fact that you've asked the question means that you must at least believe that you can do something, so the answer is yes! Parkour is a perfect way to improve your general health and fitness, and can be scaled to your own level. Just start off small, and try to find a local group of practitioners who you can train with. People who understand parkour will be happy to help you out.
Everywhere i used to train got swamped by drug addicts...
Inspering.. Great Video =)
nice work guys :)
You guys are Great, just to say it.
I would like to practice again but I don't have the time to train as before, I try to keep up the training but that's hard, and I train alone so that's not so good. I would like to live in there, that place was build to Parkour. Here in Brazil we don't have so much places(at least not so close)Well keep up the good work guys, you guys rule.Good training and luck for you guys!!!
"Sudden drop". That was a beauty.
ps don't hate on us coffee drinkers...
I'd love that, the only reason for not doing would be fear, nerves and something silly called pride, which as we know, comes before a fall!!
Will check dates for upcoming beginner's jamborees,
Marc.
Doin the widescreen. Feelin the flow. Workin it. Workin it. :-)
@TheTrailerMan22 It's difficult if you live in that kind of climate. You could focus on conditioning, strengthening your body when the weather is bad, in preparation for the sunnier days. You could also find a gymnastics centre, where you can still practice movements, irrespective of weather. Indoor climbing centres are also good, or if you can find undercover car parks, then you may still be able to train parkour at no cost during the winter.
this is so true
@spartankiller369 and this is how i would love to see youtube users like! Almost having a chat and debating ideas without trolling!
Now to the topic, love the hole video (4 parts) i think it is the 3 time i came here to see it!
Awesome stuff right here! Do you guys ever get out into nature to play about in forests or woods? That's what I'm doing these days as I'm lucky enough to live at the beginning of a beautiful mountain range. Great stuff lads!!
No problem :)
I'm in Leesburg, Fl. There's a small group here, and we also team up with groups in Orlando and Gainesville.
veery cool
Cool parkour rocks
!!!! bravissimi sembrano gatti!
very good guys =)
I thought spiderman was just a film lol I subscribed!
1:00 when he says, introduce people to parkour, well, you and a guy in ur gang that i know from Gaming on the PC, he and these vidoes inspired me and my best bud to do parkour, and were 12 :P thx for the vid, wudnt do parkour without it!!!
I lost it at the "we do crawling"
The urban setting is something I don't have in my 'hood, but a bunch of trees I do! Setting the pricipals of Parkour to tree climbing and jumping has helped, there are some big-ass trees out there, ya know...
@crystalroy The technique is called 'practice and slow but steady progression'! Start with what you know you can do without a problem (like walking) and then make it a tiny bit harder. Maybe a little bit faster, or go further. Keep doing this and you'll keep getting better. If you try and do too much too quickly, you'll injure yourself and end up going backwards.
