This game's only "jumpscare" is the loudass distorted music when Peach floats around to catch you. Otherwise it is mostly just unnerving, and that's what makes the hack so great.
I'm not a fan of it. The amount of work put in is impressive, but there's barely any story. This is not one of those games that seem confusing but it all clicks and makes sense at the end. It's just a bunch of spooky visuals and text boxes, the game gives you the bare minimum info and wants you to make wild connections. Why does Peach appear in random places during the map in random stages of her corruption? What was the purpose of some of the Marios? Why do we only see a flashback of Peach during the first playthrough? Who is the one talking? There's just too little info to really say anything for sure, it's a mess.
@@olserknam I think that is the point. To force the player to think for themselves rather than have the answers given to them. I can sort of understand that some might not be a fan of this presentation, but let’s be honest, this is a real breath of fresh air in terms of the haunted game department.
@@allenkeettikkal3149 Eh... I think this is pretty run of the mill if anything. Leaving vague notes with hints of a bigger story is common for indie horror games. But this one doesn't really have much else to compel me to dissect it.

What's funny is that this and MARIO are two very real romhacks.
MARIO wasn't just based off the creepypasta, it WAS the creepypasta.

ye, it was a very clumsily arg, if I remember correctly the notepad file was corrupted and he had to go on google to find the creepy image.
also made a minecraft map with more cryptic things, but it didn't go anywhere
later the author expressed their frustration with not knowing what to do next and gave up on the story, if there was any. kinda sad

To me 'THE (Coronation Day) totally nails how a horror game is supposed to be; it's mysterious, incomprehensible and unsettling with its atmosphere and strange way of story telling allowing people to make their own theories of how the story is supposed to be said which confuses a lot of people (myself included).
You can't really have a good story when you commit to being confusing and never explaining anything.

I remember having chills of seeing that cursed image at the end of the "Mario" creepypasta (which looks like Abe Sapien from Hellboy being drown in blood). I think the "Coronation Day" ROM hack is impressive.

That image freaked me out the first time I saw it, I saw it in a damn SpaceHamster video, which somehow made it worse even though he fuckin framed it lmao
There's one part you forgot: by editing the wrong, you can access a secret ending path where the whole is tinted red, internal organs like hearts are crawling around on the ground, and at the very end there's a giant demonic Princess Peach with horns. Assuming that it was meant to be found, it's probably important to keep in mind.

It's important to note Coronation Day (or the') has a secret ending which can only be accessed through the files. It's known as "pink day," and though unfinished gives a bit more context to some of the textboxes.
My interpretation is that there are four main characters: Mario, Peach, King, and The Narrator.
Mario is just a vessel for the player, helplessly going through the same day over and over.
Peach is a sacrificial lamb who was offered to King to possess, and tries to resist, but eventually is mostly taken over, only able to ask for death in mysterious, cryptic ways.
King is a completely insane eldritch abomination, using Peach and Mario as pawns in some way, for his own goals.
The Narrator is a strange being we never get to see in person, but is, for reasons unknown, trying to loop the same day over and over, desperately trying to lead Mario into a happy ending.
I'm pretty sure "cut my throat open" isn't a mysterious and cryptic way of asking to die

I think "his hair covers everything" and "HE loves red" are both referring to Mario.
Mario's hair frames his face in a very intentionally designed way, hence "his hair covers everything" - the entity "would check if HE lost" his teeth, probably.
As for the "HE loves red" line: Mario almost always includes at least one red piece of clothing in any of his outfits, red is established to be his favorite color in Super Paper Mario, and he's generally a very red-themed character. Peach is debating with herself (or herselves?) whether making a river red would seem too harsh, before comically/horrifically missing the point that it looks like blood and coming to the conclusion that Mario will appreciate the change.

i wish this creepypasta had more attention, it nails the creepy factor perfectly and i like how the story is presented and almost seems unfinished
(although the 'Mario' rom hack is amazing, truly creepy shit, I still remember when they found that face)

@@imbob99999 I feel this is just his intentional chocie of editing given most of his videos are horror related so the abrupt endings catch you offguard and might make for a good spook as they're almost always thematic or made to fit, such as this for example where he finishes the video right after implying the player (or the viewer) would get attacked after playing the game
He did a similar thing with a Mario 64 Rom hack

I always feel like a wimp when admitting to spooky stuff actually getting to me, even when some stuff that scares me realistically shouldn’t be that scary, but this is something that feels like it’s high enough quality that I’m sorta “justified” in being a little unsettled by it. This hack and your presentation of it are both pretty good!

It's awesome to see this hack getting more coverage in a structured and analytical style. Maybe I just wasn't looking in the right places, but for years all I'd been able to find about Coronation Day were playthroughs without commentary or videos in languages I don't speak.
i do believe theres one genuine english playthrough where 2 guys play it and are very confused about everything [in a fun way] but i dunno if i could find it now, just letting you know that it exists somewhere
I found 'the. through a guy I forgot the name of. He did a mario rom video and this was the final one I'm pretty sure.
From what I remember there was a time where barely anyone had spoken (made a video like this) or played it.
Most of the coverage is pretty recent. I know search results are different by country and... Other factors, but it really once was quite lesser known (for a lack of a better description) and has received more attention overtime. Thankful not so much that it's become over saturated either. It's pretty great.

Its been a while but my personal theory is that there are three entities. Mario, Peach and the entity. The cabin was built by Mario for him and Peach to stay in. A fight broke between the 2 and this resulted in Mario's demise. Mario's body was thrown in the river. The entity witness this and Peach became unwelcomed in the forest. Whenever she'd come here, she'd see and hear things. Mario's spirit and voices telling to reveal the truth. Eventually it was too late and the entity took her life. What we are seeing in the game most of the time is the entity trying to get Mario to move on. It takes the form of Peach and twist its to hopefully get Mario to leave her behind or stop loving her. I also believe that the smaller Mario's represent his love to Peach. The part with black outline shaped like Mario says he's the heart and there's also more the one smaller Mario's. So I think that's a symbol for a broken heart.

I love this romhack.
It's atmospheric, I played through it, and had no idea what was going on, and that made it so much more horrifying.
There's just something about it that's so interesting, yet barren. It lets you get inside your own head instead of being too over the top. It also doesn't make sense either.
It's alien, strange, and incomprehensible. Unlike most creepypastas, this one actually accomplishes the goal of being scary.
There are not three endings, but four. This one is called the "Pink Forest", an unfinished level, and quite possibly the most terrifying. You can only access to this through hacking and cheating with devices such as "Lunar Magic" and what you get there is one of the most grotesque lovecraftian and horrifying abomination. There are two endings: one is by approaching the satanic Peach enough to crash the game; the other is obtained by changing, continously, the camera angles so that you can fall in the hole and land on a Mario (which also crashes the game).
Your abrupt endings of cutting the vid without an outro always spooks me lol

My interpretation of Coronation Day:
Mario and Peach build a cabin in the woods, angering the King, who is some ancient forest deity. When Peach is sleeping one night, the King appears in her window, staring. When she says "He's just staring at me through the window and he" that's her first getting possessed by the King. The King then forces Mario and Peach to relive this in a hellish loop, Peach being the primary tortured one, having her body mangled and controlled, plants growing in her lungs and closing her throat. "My lungs hurt. Please take them out." "My throat is closed up. Would you cut it open for me?" Peach is not allowed to die, despite her desires, and Mario is forced to repeat his sins over and over while watching her suffer.
On top of that, the King decided to start punishing Mario and Peach across multiple timelines, causing the many corpses we see. It's why the different endings exist. Different versions of the pair reacting in different ways. Some even figured out a way to potentially stop the King, it seems, but while this "detective work" impressed the King, all it led to was him being set on the wider world, causing destruction and death everywhere.
Bro this creepypasta is deadass built like a car battery hooked to a barbershop pole being held at gunpoint. Also, that torta that i consumed before this video is hitting different. It's always a great day when you upload. Awesome video.

I think peach somehow ended up drowning seen in one of the Easter eggs and the sort of water theme to it , “crown” could be interrupted as drown, also the glitched stage after escaping the peach demon in the background if all of the stuff in the level is removed there is text saying “drown her” so I think peach is dead and the demon version of her is the king taking her body or a clone. There is a few times also that hints Mario is also dead but stuck in purgatory which is the forest, there is one Easter egg that shows Mario with a halo,the Mario corpse and the ghost Mario

I really do love how it's abstract and arbitrary enough that it could be interpreted a number of ways. There's no clear explanation but it's not so arbitrary or abstract that sense can't be made of it.
And we may never know if we are right. And we may never know if we're wrong. It's open ended enough for a number of creative speculations.
I really like this kind of horror. It doesn't seem easy to put together something with this kind of atmosphere. And leaves you with more questions than answers that seemingly only you can put together.
I recently got into this creepypasta, and I fell in love with it I genuinely wish the authors of this creepypasta would remake or gave genuine explanations for the endings or make the unfinished stage in the rom hack. Everything about this creepypasta is great, ominous, and mysterious. Guess we'll never really get any explanation and keep theorizing forever. Great video!

The king, especially with the references to the color red, reminds me of the scarlet king scp which is an idea I think based on the book the king in yellow? But in the lore of the scarlet king he requires a vessel in the form of a girl but they can be prevented from using her by doing something that is implied to be terrible to the girl (presumably some kind of torture) which definitely reminds me of peach and the implied self harm.

Unlike other rom hacks like MARIO that came with a story, a notepad file, and a special image to go with it, Coronation day really had only the game, and nothing else, Leaving all of us to figure it out on our own, basically from scratch, as this game is very cryptic, and has us more captivated on the atmosphere, and how strangely quiet the game starts.

I remember reading an extremely long comment someone made explaining the story of the creepypasta something about Mario and peach making a cabin in the woods to stay in for a vacation but angering some god in the forest that kills and possesses peach and traps Mario in a neverending loop purgatory where he dies over and over again and the god goes on to destroy the mushroom kingdom as revenge to the forest and even the extremely long comment trying to explain everything said that many things still seemed like mysteries and there is still a lot the story doesn't explain but I take that story as the most understandable as there is much evidence to support it

There is a really good theory on this that makes a lot of sense.
The King is most likely some otherworldly god of the forest and due to the cabin being built and Peach killing the Rexes in that one section using her as a vessel in a pretty messed up way (the scarlet forest section which you did not cover in one example).
This idea is supported by the ending where the forest is on fire and how The King admires their detective skills. The idea is the fact that Mario realized what was happening and started a huge forest fire to hopefully stop this madness which The King admired him figuring this out but it did nothing as hinted by the towering horned shadow.

Yeah, the MARIO rom hack came first, and then a creepypasta was written based off the events that u folded as the users of the Forum played and discovered things
There's another ending too and some more secrets, but the ending requires actually digging in and editing or something and can't be accessed through vanilla gameplay. It's the "pink forest" ending, which has a couple outcomes. Some think this was scrapped, but I think this is very much an intentional part of the hack that's supposed to add more info to what's going on, and the fact that you can't access it in vanilla is just a way of hiding it and making it a super secret easter egg.

Yess I remember I played this years ago with my brother as part of a halloween Twitch stream, and it was very unsettling. This was back when it was new-ish and there was almost no information about it outside the forum thread it started in. This stands out even today to me as such a mold-breaker that stayed in my memory.
About the date at the end: I believe I remember in a discussion somewhere, possibly on the SMWcentral forums, that the date coincided with a plane crash, and that was the only significant event people could find on that date. I don't remember for sure where I read that, and it might not even have been true, but some people did put up some theories revolving around that knowledge back then.
I think that the ''king'' is mario. the king is said to love red and mario is never seen not wearing red, and throughout marios games its implied the mario and peach kinda have a thing for eachother. So my theory is that mario and peach got married at some point, making mario royalty and build a house in the woods (reason: I dunno) at some point after that something horrible happends to peach which is directly or indirectly marios fault, making peach some kind of powerful spirit that haunts the forest and resents mario for whatever he did which is why she attacks mario in every playthrough.

There are more secrets actually
For example there is a video of small Mario with his head upside down walking in the same area and hole Peach juped into, but now there's a giant mutated Peach floats above it with two horns.
You need to get the camera to look to the left, so Mario could fall down the hole.
Then we see mario falling like when he first built the house, howewer this time he lands on the Mario that was building the house. That explains the corpse we saw. There's another variation where the house is complete and Mario lands on the rooftop. If you walk off the rooftop you fall under the house where you find a message spelling 'ROT' in big red letters.

NGL I felt something weird when I heard the Distortion World soundtrack. Least favorite part of Platinum, but the BEST music. It makes me think of a mental happy place

At last!! This ROM is wonderfully horrific! More people have to see this, I delight in the most surreal and slow-burn horror.
My assumption was that peach went missing thus the detective part.
And was on her way to the cabin built by Mario peach falls down the bridge and drowns becoming the God of the forrest.
Weather this was her true form or what she was meant to be or if she's corrupted or used as an avatar of some other being she's gone.
Mario and the shadow marios are peach trying to play with Marios mind in some attempt to get him to submit to her/ the forrest intentions whatever they may be

My theory is that after the events of the original Mario bros, Mario marries peach. Eventually he builds a cabin in the forest for a vacation to relax after everything with bowser. But during the trip, Mario and peach get in a fight over something, maybe the bridge that Mario built breaking under peach, and it ends with Mario killing her, and he then throws her body into a small lake (blood lake at the end). The part with peach jumping into the hole might be her becoming a ghost to haunt Mario, which caused the multiple versions of her throughout the rom hack.

my interpretation of 'the is that for whatever reason peach has angered the forest and is possessed by it. She draws mario in to beg for death, but the forest attempts to break and control him too, looping the same day over and over in hopes to make him "king."
although this comment isn't related to this video, this video reminds me of when I used to play minecraft and I would be scared because of the herobrine theory, then after playing 5 minutes I would be scared for my life that herobrine would jumpscare me. There was once when there was a moment when I had a creepy pasta thing. This story begins with me creating a super flat world with me having creative mode, after flying around with creative mode I found a village, it was normal with villagers, houses, lots of slimes. I was going around decorating the villager houses (idk it was a weird thing I did) but I found a dog that was tamed, I could tell it was tamed because of the collar around its neck. But I didn't tame any dogs or spawn any dogs... I didn't question it even though I knew that it's not possible. A weird thing about the dog was that the dogs neck was thick and so was the collar, I could tell because it was more wide than usual, I decided to keep it as a pet even though I did not tame it. I did this by putting it in a box made of oak wood and making it sit. I went back to the village to make lots of other dogs. I got dyes and gave each dog a color for their collar, this happened when the new update of allowing players to change the color of dog collars was added, but when I tried to change the color of the strange dog it only allowed me to change it to white, red, pink or blue, if you tried to set it to any other color it wouldn't allow you to and it would set back to red. When I went back to the box I with the strange dog it was still there sitting down in the same place. I made another box of the rest of the dogs that I made sit down so they don't wonder off, the box was far from the box with the strange dog. When I finished the box of the normal dogs I went back to the other box to find the dog it wasn't there... I went to look for but I noticed black figure in the distance with a dog standing aside the figure, the dog was most likely the strange dog so I went to fly after it but the black figure started to run facing away from me at really fast speeds with the dog aside it. I wasn't scared even though I used to think I would die if I was to see herobrine and herobrine was following me at all times even when I was normally playing, but when I actually encountered a actual scary thing I wasn't scared. This was a strange thing that happened to me, I wasn't able to tell my parents because I have Autisim and I was still learning how to speak so I would tell my storys through mini books by drawing images, I also couldn't write properly but my writing could only be read by putting a mirror against it because I somehow learned how to write in flipped text and that was the only way I could write. I tried to show the mini picture book based off the events that happened to my parents but they didn't understand, now I'm here writing this message about it a couple years later.

i believe that the lines like " my lungs hurt, can you take them out for me? " could be peach wanting someone to kill her so she can escape the king, because it sounds like shes _asking_ someone, not thinking it in her head. but this is just my take on it.
