Hi all! This is one of my favorite longplays I've done to date! This game was just so fun. I recently completed the first Gauntlet for NES and while it was fun, I found it to be very difficult and a bit unfair. Still, it was a fun challenge and of course a classic retro game. Gauntlet II however I found to be PERFECT! It is much easier, but that doesn't mean it is without challenge. The difficulty here is more about the puzzles and navigation and item management, more than just straight combat. That said, you could say it is a bit easier when playing by yourself in some ways, because you get to keep all of the items and food to yourself. Also, there is one level here that I would like to point out. In Gauntlet II, if you get stuck at any point, you can remain still for I believe it is 2mins, and then all of the parts of the level will turn into exits. I guess this is just to help you move forward if you are stuck. But, in Level 66 at 2:27:36, I spent a long time looking around for the way to solve this level and I could not figure it out. There are other videos online too where it seems the only solution is to use this feature of standing still and "skipping" the level. I actually found this to be kind of cool and creative! Other than that, I really enjoyed the graphics, the characters, the colors, and the level designs, the enemies. It's really one of my favorites so I hope you enjoy!
The main limitation is here you can hold only six items, so you have to ask how many keys and potions are essential. Also, I think if you shoot “poison” food (jugs with skulls on them) and “poison potions” (bottles with skulls on them) you can “slow” enemies down. The original NES Gauntlet was structured like an RPG where if you found certain treasures, you could raise your max life points, and a successful treasure room exit let you heal to that max life point then. Of course, with dying demons sounding like females, you wonder if that was a glitch or intentional 😅
@@jtbknuggetsauce At least, shooting poison worked in the arcade game, not sure if it would work here. In “Gauntlet: Dark Legacy,” you could hold nine keys and nine potions tops, so if you knew you were going into a rough spot with locked doors and chests, that helped. You have to manage your inventory with just six items (a mix of keys and potions). I didn’t see “boost potions” where they increased your stats though.
@@jtbknuggetsauce Helps if you got the “super shots” before hand, but each time you heard the tune that means you picked up 10, you have to “count your shots” to make sure you’re not out of them before the big boss.
Ah, so many memories of playing this game! I recall in 1992 while me and my family were still in Rochester, NY, we were invited to a friend's birthday party - he had an SNES, and two NES systems were hooked up. I played Gauntlet II with some friends while gazing at other games, like the NES port of Bad Dudes.
There is only 1 type of stage that cannot be cleared with just 1 player. The stage description is as follows: “The exit will move” and “Player shots stun others.” This is the only type of stage that requires AT LEAST 2 players to clear it. 1 player goes the opposite direction of the warp pad as possible so the other player can warp right across the wall. I suppose you could do it yourself, but you need 2 controllers to get through it. Edit: 2:27:35 THIS is the level type I was talking about. Can’t clear it with only 1 player. You need 2 or more players for this level, otherwise your run ends here. Edit 2 2:31:13 WHAT IN TARNATION!? That’s not supposed to happen! Or does it? How’d you do that!?
Great comment. Yes that level was not possible to complete on my own. I had to wait out the timer to exit. Also, that other edit 2 you made, simply put, all exits are decoys except for one, so that is the one exit that was the real one.
I know they had limited room to work with, but it really looks like the wizard is just hurling a pinch of salt at the enemy on the title screen. "FORSOOTH! THOU ART PROPERLY SEASONED! FEAR MINE COOKERY HERBS NEXT, FIEND!"

@@theodorehsu5023 I believe when you kill the green dragons in this one you get a stat boost potion which I collected a few of in this video!

Me and my ex played this game relentlessly together needless to say the game lasted longer than our marriage
Lol
Feels like a Commodore 64 game at its core.
This was Diablo before diablo

The wizard's walking animation to the left and right has big "Walk Like an Egyptian" vibes.
