I never was able to finish this game when I was a kid. Now I know how this game ends. Thank you very much. This game is definitely one of the hardest games I ever played.
Rare could have made a better (more positive) remembered game if they made it more like the first level; just combat all the way through. Might have even made for more sales and more games for them.
You weren't. That's what's kind of funny. I mean, the game has 20 minutes worth of content if you're skilled enough to beat it. So by making it incredibly hard, you never see how little is actually there. So many beat 'em ups and platformer games from that era were just brutally difficult like that (Battletoads, Aladdin, Lion King, Final Fight), but ironically all the greatest iconic platformers weren't absurdly difficult (Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid). I remember acing through Super Mario World when I was 5-6 years old. Beating Bowser the first time was an incredible experience for me. I picked that game a few years back and fucking sucked balls at it. Amazing.
That bike level, took years away from me. Memorised the whole start of it to then learn today the ‘impossible jump’ has a ramp in the floor to get back up 😢 Kudos for completing
This game was created by Satan himself, the first level is the Hell itself with lava sea and demonic pigs, then there is the Devil's Throat, and you have to go down there, the chess board is to give you dizziness... after years of training you can MAYBE pass half of it.
Bodyguard: "Welcome to the Salty Spittoon, how tough are ya?" Me: "I can make it all the way past the the Snake Ladder level in Battletoads In Battlemaniacs." Bodyguard: "Right this way, sorry to keep you waiting."
If an enemy is on the ground and you do a "dash attack" near him, it will always be a finisher (either the boot with Pimple or the sweep kick with Rash). All of the other powerful attacks I do are either just from the enemy having low health or from the enemy being a boss (you always hit with powerful attacks on bosses).
I actually found this bike level easier than the bike level on the original NES game. I guess all the hours I spent on the first one was good practice for the SNES version?
My brother and I used to rent this game wayyyy back in the day, stuck at the same place. Determined to beat that last part at 10m 25s we even resorted to our Game Genie with the infinite lives code. After an hours time and a broken controller we admitted defeat. 21 yrs later I have decided on revenge and picked up the game on Ebay, its payback time.
1:29 very nice tactic. TH-cam's timing must be off. You first hit start at 0:10, and the ship gets the final hit at 20:17, which would be 20:07. But, this is a very impressive run. I had been speedrunning this as well comming up with times of 20:20 but knowing it could be better. And this is better. good run.
I see. Interesting. I seems to work a little bit like the warp zones from the NES version, I didn't know something like that could happen in the SNES game. Thanks for the answer, and congratulations for the awesome speedrun!
Queen- "Ahh we lost the first time. Make everything look nice and polished with the same basic level designs, but make it hard as f*ck." This is like the second Death Star to a whole new level. Love the game, but child me lost patience. Made it exclusively a rental when I wanted a challenge. (Miss you BB)
I never beat the game, always lost my lives on the last boss, and I never knew about the infinite lives cheat when I was younger. I can't believe they made a friggin' Street Fighter 1 reference at the end. "WHAT GREAT STRENGTH!"
I remember getting this game for Christmas; Me and my brother use to play battletoads a lot, never beaten the nes version but I managed to beat this game. The only gripe I have about this game was the fact it had more race stages and less action stages. (NTM turbo tunnel, karnnath's lair, coaster stage, and rate race.) Good job on the speedrun. Btw, I saw your race on the battletoads nes game, congrats.
Haha, I know what you mean. I'm always playing Battletoads, but I haven't been trying for a run in a long long time. Warpless is especially mean because of all the autoscrollers at the start. Maybe some day I'll try that run again seriously, but who knows.
NES Battletoads is one of my favorite games, so when this came out I of course snapped it up. I have to say, watching this run, and remembering back, I think the NES Battletoads was a richer, more varied game than this is. Awesome run though, PJ.
I agree for sure. NES Battletoads is a much more varied game than this. This game is rather slow and clunky in the beat-em-up sections, but the autoscrollers are a lot of fun. It's hard in the same way the NES version is, though: it relies on surprise. Once you memorize either game, it becomes trivial.
Kaede Rukawa When a pig is knocked on the ground, you can do a dash attack near him to use the boot attack. That instantly kills enemies. Otherwise those dark pigs take a LOT of hits to kill!
i got to the thing after the snakes where you have to press up down right left really quickly but only twice and i was on my last legs then. i was never able to finish this game when i was young.
I would guess it has something to do with the snake's head touching the exit at that point. It could be that tail -1 is somehow equal to the head in the programming (since you're on the tile where the tail was on its last frame, you are tail -1). It could also have nothing to do with that, though.
Merry Christmas, P.J.! This speedrun is really impressive, as a kid I resigned at the third level that I could beat only once in uncountable attempts. So momentarily I'm trying this game (casual, not a speedrun). What's freaking me out is one jump in the fourth part of the snake level. When two snakes are going for the "roof" you have to make three jumps (at 13:40). I just can't do the last jump. Either I hit the spike to my left or the spike above my head. Thanks to an emulator I tried this jump hundreds of times, but it seems just random if I make it or not. Additionally I don't see a cue where to jump exactly. May I ask you how you got consistent at this jump?
TheSuperSNES Thank you very much for yor quick reply. Tonight I did it, I played through this game from start to finish without cheating for my first time. For this playthrough I used Player 2 instead of Player 1. At the jump mentioned above, it seemed Rash has a tightly smaller hitbox. The jump therefore felt a little easier. Greetings from Germany :)!
FinalMessenger13 Yea Rash has a significantly easier time at that section. That was a good idea! Rash is also a faster character overall, so he is the better choice for a speed run. I just prefer Pimple so I ran it with him. :P
You get 5k points for clearing each checkpoint in this level. The score jumped because I finished the level. The reason for the abrupt end is because that is an in-game warp. It doesn't display anything special, but if you stand on the snake's tail there, the stage will end.
@@TheSuperSNES thanks for the tip. I have beaten this game many times but not as fast as your run... usually 40plus mins. I didn't know about this warp. I will give it a try too. Cheers
I don't think anybody has talked about the elephants in the room. There was only one stage of actual full on fighting. and... that you would actually have to play very similar to this just to beat the game legitimately.
I always played with my brother when I was a kid, the bike level was my fav, I also use to love booting my brothers player on purpose off the cliff at the first level was so much fun. I never went past the snake level...the ice part of the snake level I got stuck on...now that I see there was a bike chasing you after that...looked so difficult! The last boss looked easy tbh...
hey, so i'm not sure you know like every game out there, but I had a question if you know a game, it might be on the pc, but it was an old ass game, back in the SNES Sega genesis time, and the game was a music type game. There were like little bugs that would walk over colored blocks, and they would make a sound corresponding to the color of the block, and what kind of instrument it was, and there were some cool ass songs that were made from it, and in awesome shapes, like I know there was that surfer song with a picture of someone surfing a wave. Like I said, idk if you know all kinds of games well, but I just wanna know what the hell that game was called. It was kind of a big part of my childhood.
Took me countless playthroughs to beat this game. Lvl 1 and 2 are easy. Turbo tunnel cranks up the difficulty. Snake pit the 3rd area confusd me at first. Buzzsaw level is the hardest level in the game especially if you aren't using a straight up snes controller. Last level before Dark Queen ain't that bad, tbh. If you can get to the second bonus level your pretty much set. I remember getting to the rat race level at the end and getting a game over. I was so motivated to beat the game after that, and finally did it on a regular snes. I love hard games like this, b/c they feel so good to learn, overcome, and finally beat!
Hahaha watching this I feel like I'm playing, I could do all the input, no bullshit ^_^ This game is so awesome, the music and levels design is pure genius! This speedrun is in the limits, I could do it in a similar time, maybe save a few seconds xD, but I don't think it could be done so much better than this. Yeah I know... vote me down, vote me down... whatever =)
I'd like to show you my progress if you're interested. I have a bunch of new minor tricks (and two fairly major ones) that I thought you might be interested in seeing, assuming you haven't learned most or all of them already since last year. It's a pretty long list, so should I send a PM?
You can get this game on the Xbox One. It comes in a collection with something like 20 games. It includes old classics and even some Xbox 360 games. It's a great value.
TheSuperSNES You are correct. I didn't realize that. I just bought it and haven't played all the games yet. I misread it. It's still a great value though, but if someone is looking for this game, they'll have to look elsewhere.
Hey are you still playing Battletoads NES? I've been practicing the last few months, and I'm trying to get a sub-30min warpless run to fill that SDA slot, but I swear that game has a mind of its own. :/
I'm honestly not sure how it works. If you just stand still on the snake's tail there, the level will end when you fall. I don't know if it works in any other places or not, but this is the one I accidentally found. Haha. Thanks!
Hahaha, I don't doubt you! Anybody who can play Actraiser 2 like you can definitely run this game. It's not a terribly hard game. ^_^ This run can be improved by ~5-7 seconds with a perfect level 2, a perfect second bonus level, and slightly better Rat Race. I'm not interested in trying though. Haha.
I didn't get what was your final move on Level 4 part 4 (the icy section). How the hell did you exit the stage without actually reaching the exit? Mindblowing job, by the way!
I never was able to finish this game when I was a kid. Now I know how this game ends. Thank you very much. This game is definitely one of the hardest games I ever played.
Facts are facts.
This game invented the INSANE MODE of difficulty for today's games
How were we ever supposed to beat this as kids?
Never got past the Turbo Tunnel on SNES
couldn't argue with that one lol XD
or adults?
Rare could have made a better (more positive) remembered game if they made it more like the first level; just combat all the way through. Might have even made for more sales and more games for them.

lol this game is easy xD

iam a troll ebcause i think this game is easy?
try first battletoads for NES.
Put your speed run up then. Yeah. Fuckin liar.
That bike level, took years away from me. Memorised the whole start of it to then learn today the ‘impossible jump’ has a ramp in the floor to get back up 😢 Kudos for completing
Unbelievably fast walkthrough! Thank you, TheSuperSNES.
Congrats! That level with the jetsky or whatever it is is so funking hard!
This game was created by Satan himself, the first level is the Hell itself with lava sea and demonic pigs, then there is the Devil's Throat, and you have to go down there, the chess board is to give you dizziness... after years of training you can MAYBE pass half of it.
love this game. music is so awesome
Three words:
THE. FUCKING. SNAKES.
Also, this game had a pretty awesome soundtrack.
Bodyguard: "Welcome to the Salty Spittoon, how tough are ya?"
Me: "I can make it all the way past the the Snake Ladder level in Battletoads In Battlemaniacs."
Bodyguard: "Right this way, sorry to keep you waiting."
Holy...i had this game when i was a teenager...never could finish...it was amazing difficult. And this guy beat it in 20 minutes.
It's so fast and very professionally. Respect
Wow man. Full respect to you. Ive never beat this bike level. You rekt my whole childhood with that xD
Originally the game was developed in order to drive people to the madness
If an enemy is on the ground and you do a "dash attack" near him, it will always be a finisher (either the boot with Pimple or the sweep kick with Rash). All of the other powerful attacks I do are either just from the enemy having low health or from the enemy being a boss (you always hit with powerful attacks on bosses).
Nice work and thank you for not putting yourself in the video and just playing the game!
ugh..i loved this game...but that bike level...SO DAMN HARD...i never beat it...after like 1,000 tries i could never beat that bike level
Me too

I never made it past the bike level either
I always failed at that level where that fucking rat ran behind u with a fucking saw
Rat race was near-flawless. Only erred on one platform. What a joy to watch.
I love the original Street Fighter reference at the end. An underrated and pretty early entry for the SNES
1:29 very nice tactic.

Thanks for the answer, and congratulations for the awesome speedrun!
Awesome to finally know what came after those M"Fn snakes!
The last boss quote seems like the same quote of the enemies when you beat them in the first Street Fighter game.
For me, the hardest game one the snes.
Without question
Brings back so many memories
Tbh, I'm simply impressed that you beat the Turbo Tunnel
I never beat the game, always lost my lives on the last boss, and I never knew about the infinite lives cheat when I was younger. I can't believe they made a friggin' Street Fighter 1 reference at the end.

This game was so FUN! Even if I couldn't beat it when I was as mall child I still loved playing it for the bike level
I did the early level end glitch on the snake level once when I was a kid and could never repeat it. My brother's never believed me.
If anyone thinks this was 'hard' have you tried the NES original??? This is child's play and somewhat 'fair' compared to that.
HARDEST FUCKING GAME
How am I doing what? I don't think I did anything unusual on that stage. Haha.
I'm glad you enjoyed the run!
Why did that snake level finish early???
amazing run pj this game is really good but i just wish it have more levels and a better combat
Nice work! Now that I've seen it beaten, I can't believe how short this game is! The original had more levels ffs.
One of the best soundtracks ever
Haha, I know what you mean. I'm always playing Battletoads, but I haven't been trying for a run in a long long time. Warpless is especially mean because of all the autoscrollers at the start. Maybe some day I'll try that run again seriously, but who knows.
The level after the snakes is impossible. That's where it stopped for me. Such precision.
NES Battletoads is one of my favorite games, so when this came out I of course snapped it up.

the fourth level was so damn hard because it goes ever faster,,, made me crazy
I just managet to win battletoads for the first time! Finally i have no more nightmares of this unfinished game anymore.
6:35, that the song, please tell me guys?
Mirá lo que es esa dificultad papá.
i got to the thing after the snakes where you have to press up down right left really quickly but only twice and i was on my last legs then. i was never able to finish this game when i was young.
Hardest game ever. I never finished it - so great to see that it´s possible. And I thought twenty years ago, I was a good player :D
How'd you jump To the rocks on the bike level as I've always just fell through.
Also what happened to zits. He was never found?
excellent, i thought s/he eas going to do the bad ending to not waste time in this speedrun. Incredible, what precision with the missiles
LOL never seen the levels beyond lvl 3... They were just a myth to me. BUT THEY DO EXCIST!
I would guess it has something to do with the snake's head touching the exit at that point. It could be that tail -1 is somehow equal to the head in the programming (since you're on the tile where the tail was on its last frame, you are tail -1). It could also have nothing to do with that, though.
I never knew this game was so short. No wonder they had to make it that difficult. Still love it though.
Merry Christmas, P.J.!

I don't have a cue for that either. It is a horrible jump. I just rely on muscle memory mainly. :/

HyperSonicXtreme Level 2 was okayish. But I am old. So I had developed a bit of skill during the time till I tried this game :D.
That's freaking amazing. Nobody's gonna beat that!
why was the video spliced at 13:49? did you die? also the score jumped from 317200 to 322190. I think the video was edited... anyone else agree?
You get 5k points for clearing each checkpoint in this level. The score jumped because I finished the level. The reason for the abrupt end is because that is an in-game warp. It doesn't display anything special, but if you stand on the snake's tail there, the stage will end.

This game is fuc***** hard! It was my first SNES game, coz these game came with my console.
Is so frustrating....
Hera Dionisio your first game?? That's crazy
so its just a bunch of minigames, i was hoping for the "arcade type" of the first level, at some point after when i was a kid
why the snake lv end in 13:50???? #TheSuperSNES
Childhood memories !
I don't think anybody has talked about the elephants in the room.
There was only one stage of actual full on fighting.

what da fuck ? how long ypu played the game to do it so perfectly xD?
Dennis Schewe 20 years
thatsthe true hahaha
+TheSuperSNES can you tell me when did you start and stop the timer?
lol thge speeder stage is so fucking redicolous, how any human being is supposet to beat that

the bikes level is a REAL test for candidates to be real pilots of sukhoi su35 actually.
Nice to see you getting a good run. Accept!
thhat music
i played this game hard when i was younger and i worked my way to getting past the snake level but then the next level just shut me down.

But wtf is that on 13:50 a glitch or a cheat?! 👀👀👀
I noticed this as well. I wonder what happened.
This is someone who played this game a whole lot of times.
I can't believe I beat this game if I did try these days I don't think I would ever do it

This speedrun is in the limits, I could do it in a similar time, maybe save a few seconds xD, but I don't think it could be done so much better than this.
Yeah I know... vote me down, vote me down... whatever =)
this is awesome gameplay , respekt , thx ) ) )
So this game basically only has one beat em up style stage!?
You could freaking jump over the tall cement blocks in the obstacle race stage?! What!!
I've beaten this game so many times only to be able destroy that UFO arrrgh, those rockets are a pain.
Nice game but I always prefer to
play the arcade version best one.
I'd like to show you my progress if you're interested. I have a bunch of new minor tricks (and two fairly major ones) that I thought you might be interested in seeing, assuming you haven't learned most or all of them already since last year. It's a pretty long list, so should I send a PM?
The hardest Snes game ever.
You can get this game on the Xbox One. It comes in a collection with something like 20 games. It includes old classics and even some Xbox 360 games. It's a great value.
Sorry, that isn't quite true. Rare Replay has Arcade Battletoads and NES Battletoads, but not this one.
TheSuperSNES You are correct. I didn't realize that. I just bought it and haven't played all the games yet. I misread it. It's still a great value though, but if someone is looking for this game, they'll have to look elsewhere.
Oh yea it is absolutely a great value! I love Rare Replay. Highly recommended purchase. :D
Never got past level 2 as a kid.
LOL
I rented this game from Blockbuster back when it still existed.
Damn that snake level got me. How did u know where to jump down towards the top? Crazy! I mustve tried beating snake level 200 times!
I still have nightmares of the turbo tunnel
man such great memories when i played this game
and the game is not hard...
it wasnt hard when i was 9 and played it with my 10yr old cousin
Oh man this is nuts. I can't even beat the hovercraft stage!
How are you getting the powerful attacks nearly all the time? I played this a lot as a kid, never beat the second level, heh.
Damn I never even made it to the snake level as a kid. Ehh, maybe once. This is impressive
Hey are you still playing Battletoads NES? I've been practicing the last few months, and I'm trying to get a sub-30min warpless run to fill that SDA slot, but I swear that game has a mind of its own. :/
What an awesome run! Have you ever done this co-op? I never could find anyone to beat this with.
I'm honestly not sure how it works. If you just stand still on the snake's tail there, the level will end when you fall. I don't know if it works in any other places or not, but this is the one I accidentally found. Haha.
Thanks!
its called battletoads in battlemaniacs but you barely even battle in the first level, the rest is just pure minigames
that's why i don't like this game.
arcade version is the best one in the series, with full of battles and balanced challenging difficulty.
The arcade game is great and so is Battletoads double dragon
Hahaha, I don't doubt you! Anybody who can play Actraiser 2 like you can definitely run this game. It's not a terribly hard game. ^_^ This run can be improved by ~5-7 seconds with a perfect level 2, a perfect second bonus level, and slightly better Rat Race. I'm not interested in trying though. Haha.
I didn't get what was your final move on Level 4 part 4 (the icy section). How the hell did you exit the stage without actually reaching the exit?
Mindblowing job, by the way!
Savestate much?
This Soundtrack made Me a metalhead
