Great video! I'm just getting in to Onward, (part of the Quest-wave), and while I'm really enjoying it, I'm finding that there's a serious lack of good "teaching" content that explains some of these fundamentals. This vid is the first one I've seen that even starts to scratch that surface at all, so thank you! Big fan of your other videos as well.
to be honest, I've communicated in almost every match I played in. mostly callouts, friendly fire, friendly down, and good spots. Hope to see you out there!
Aye!! Love the Jiujitsu analogies!! Practice getting out of worst case scenarios so that if you ever get in that position you'll be comfortable in knowing you can get out of it!
So much truth @8:00 @9:27 @17:10 @17:20 (timestamps more for my notes lol but great stuff) great vids theta and thank you for all you do for this league and to help it grow and improve, a true cornerstone! Eye opening!! Binging all these rn
These are very high quality videos especially on the information wise. I want to be able to actually help with my team when playing onward and these videos help alot
Hey I recognized Section One! I played with him in a match a few days ago he was super helpful to me starting out and it was a nice challenge getting kills on him. Cool to know he plays competitive. Very helpful video Theta!
I play pubs and really enjoy a good team that communicates well, but this sounds like the play for blood mentality might be more intense than I am looking for. Food for thought as I look for a team to play with that I can enjoy competing with.
For sure, there are plenty of teams that aren't anywhere near this level of intensity - and there's nothing wrong with that. My perspective is biased towards my own preference for intense competition, but do what works for you.
I really enjoy your methodical, well-reasoned approach to teaching this skillset. Makes me think of athletic trainers or tactical instructors. Do you have experience as either?
this video is really good, i find myself with nearly 300 hours in onward and being an okay player normally winning in lobbys but i dont really find myself wanting to go into comp simple because i play the game to have fun even though im rather good compared to most people i find myself with. i should also note i pretty much only play assault and not uplink for the same reason i like the laidback feel of having more than one life and being able to mess around abit. i think after watching this ill try to find some comp assault lobbys with higher skilled players but idk i find myself too good for most public matches but not in the right mindset for comp. not sure what i should do
I was in a game today to train to get into a team, I’m there to play to win to get better. My team tho, they wanted everyone to drop their weapons and party or whatever, I didn’t want to so they killed me. It’s the complete opposite of fun
Love your vids they have been really helpful. I was trying to do proper adequate and help this guy( teammate) who was running a flashlight instead of night vision on a night map( I would normally be ok with it on some circumstances but he kept pointing the flashing in my eye) and he flipped out on me for trying to help. -_-
Can't tell you how many times that sort of thing has happened to me. It's gotten worse lately. A lot of people think having a couple of hours under their belts makes them an expert.
@@ThetaVR yea and I'm trying to learn a few of the maps spawns and correct a few of my weaknesses before I try to do some comp lobbies then a reservist.
@@ThetaVR I'm glad to hear you are and like you say, it's inevitable. I come to the game as a Quest player. Yes, there are changes and improvements to be made, but I feel eventually, we can all play together and be happy with the situation. You, as an influencer will help this come to fruition. Thanks for your loadout videos, they have helped me immensely! Keep doing what you do! 👊
I find myself in a strange middle state. I want to win. But I have no desire to ever compete in a league or join a team. I haven't got the luxury of predictable availability and cannot devote the required time to this pursuit to fit in with that crowd. A result of this is that I'm frustrated by the tomfoolery of the pub lobbies, but have been avoiding comp lobbies because I don't want to let people down. I am a fan of the game-play as intended and really want to play with people who try at least a little bit instead of going after team kills, incessantly babbling, and alternating between ignoring or rushing objectives haphazardly. As you point out though one weak player ruins the whole team, and angers the serious players who do want the game as a lifestyle, not just an occasional hobby. So I don't know where i fit in the current ecosystem. I'm having trouble developing the base proficiency needed to not nuke my team's chances in the competitive lobbies by playing rando matches. What do you of the community suggest?
You should come join our Discord group, the Kool-Aid Crew. We do scrims with a mix of vets and new players with a focus on learning. You can see what it's like to play for blood with real players without the commitment of joining a team first. You can join here: invite.gg/ThetaVR
I feel like this concept is flawed because it is actually possible to play with an intent somewhere on a spectrum between the most uber competitive and the completely dicking around
Depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you want to be a long-term winner, the bulk of your time should be spent playing for blood and exposing yourself to competitive situations. If you just want to improve independent of competitive results, then by all means be more casual on a regular basis. I've never met a top-tier competitor who spent more than a small portion of their time playing without winning intentions.
This video hits every possible nail, squarely on the head; & is applicable in every aspect of life

Exactly. Nothing will teach you how to think this way like letting people start on your back or in mount over and over again.
It makes so much sense that you do Jiu jitsu. The strategy and adaption aspects are hyper present in Onward and BJJ
This is so entertaining I mean the philosophy that stands behind that talk.
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed the video.
Excellent essay in general let alone a video on vr gaming.
One time the whole server used knifes and then i heard from team chat “use guns” we won that round

I guess you're now the official VRML tutor. I hope they officially bestow their title on you in a ceremony or something.

very good video.
Appreciate it, Thunder.
That is a... Interesting title
Just doing my best to keep it spicy out here.

Sign up to compete, that's the only way to tell how good you are when everyone is trying to win.
💪ARMS RACE💪
Oooh snap!
Do you have a dominant right hand with a dominant left eye?
No, that footage was shot when I had some incorrect Onward recording settings in place. You'll see in newer footage that you can see down my sights.

playing for blood lol a great title and more great content let the red mist descend lol

Are you still sticking with 1.8 Theta?
Yep, for now I'm playing 1.8 exclusively. I don't think we'll have a choice in the future, so I'd rather start adapting now.

For one time you are the confirmed first to this video
Haha, congrats. Thanks for watching.
Will you ever do any Pavlov vids or try it?
I tried it out a long time ago, not really my cup of tea. But never say never, might check it out again at some point.
