- On August 27, 2000, Washington Redskins running back Chad Dukes was released by the team. Just minutes later, the team re-signed him. This is the bizarre story of one of the craziest roster cuts and transactions in NFL history, involving a player you probably don't know a whole lot about.

I had this happen to me a year ago. At my last job, I got injured at work, burned my hand. Went to the emergency room, it was all paid for by the company, all that, but had to do a drug test. Well I “failed” the drug test because I take ADHD medication which is flagged under “amphetamines.” Instead of inquiring why I tested positive, I was called into the office and “terminated” for failing a drug test. I said that was literally impossible, because it was, I don’t do drugs. Needless to say, they put my “termination” on hold while I drive to the corporate office and showed them my prescription and a doctors note. A couple hours later my manager calls me and says I’m good to return to work.
You think they could’ve asked whether I take any medications before just firing me out of the blue. Anyway…
I refused take the drug test after an injury. I want even a drug user. I just did not agree to the policy, it was between the insurance company and the employment agency. I got terminated but Didn’t care. No one signs away my rights.
Johnson: I didn’t see the referee!
Everyone: Stevie Wonder could see the ref was in front of you!
Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner: Hold our beers.
🤣🤣🤣 multiple times too
I missed the old ESPN2 graphics it was so unique before ESPN2 got ESPNED
Chad Dukes went on to become a sportsradio talk show host in DC.
Different guy. It’s a pseudonym. I think his real name is Bradley Fucherton 😮
Only the Danskins could pull off this kind of incompetence
Fun Fact: This was the second of three straight seasons the first kickoff the Panthers received in the season resulted in a touchdown.
In 1999 the Panthers fumbled the first kickoff they received that season. The Saints returned it for a touchdown.
In 2000 (in the game you watched at the beginning of this video) the Panthers returned the first kickoff they received that season for a touchdown.
In 2001 the first kickoff the Panthers returned the first kickoff they received that season for a touchdown.
My wife got fired and re-hired for the same job in the same day.
The DMV's NFL club doing dumb stuff in the Dan Snyder era? No way! 😄
This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about how Washington drafted Running Back Moses Denson in 1972. At the time Denson was drafted he was 28. Like Dukes in Albany, Denson wore #44 in Washington.
George Allen actually drafted someone???
@@alfjgist Denson was their first pick of the draft... in the EIGHTH ROUND!!! Classic George Allen.
@@jmlapedis49EIGHTH ROUND CARL!
Speaking of George Allen, the Rams fired him after the 1968 season, only for the Rams to rehire him after a massive player protest.
Didnt know Mr. Spacely bought the Redskins
Amazing work
Weird how Washington fired and then rehired him-that’s because it had to do with a player who was suspended from a NFL playoff game-which led to a gap in the roster! I liked those clips of the arena football 🏈 league with dukes in them playing for the Albany firebirds!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
What's even stranger is that in the same area, there was a talk radio show back in the day called Big O and Dukes. The co-host's name is also Chad Dukes.
Good play on immaculate grid for WAS/JAX rarity
My go-to there is usually Niles Paul or Matt Turk if I’m trying for rarity. Feel like most people go with one of Brunell, McCardell, or Scherff.
In Arena Football till 2007, 6 of 8 players went both ways. Only the QB, OS (Offensive Specialist-Generally Primary WR) only played offence while the Defense had two DS (Defensive Specialists-Generally 2 best defensive backs) only played defense. The other Positions were FB/LB (Mack LB-who generally rushed the QB on pass plays), WR/LB (Generally Jack Linebacker stayed in box on pass plays) WR/DB then OG/DE, C/NG and TE/DE (Tight End need to raise hand prior to lining up).
Chad dukes got to be the greatest name I've ever heard
Thank you. Living in Albany I knew the name was familiar
Seems like something the Patriots would do
I miss arena football...
I can see what happened. He looked like he was trying to swing at the Lions player but missed and accidentally hit the ref.
Good on this guy. He worked hard. Didn't result the way he probably want, but he still did well
Look at FedEx Field in 2000. 90,000+ Redskins fans in a sellout and one of the nicest stadiums in the league! This is a supreme example of what mismanagement can accomplish :(
This would happen when the boss realizes that firing a good employee
Jetsoooon: you’re fired!
Great story!!!
JJ Jameson was running the team at the time.
Wow
Cool story!
What about Ontario Smith who played with the Vikings in I believer 2001? He got cut, after a couple good games!
Smith played for vikes 2003-05 he was detained at the airport carrying dried urine and a device that turned out to be a “whizzinator”. Used to beat a urine test. The Vikings cut him in April 2006
Seemed like a story with little substance you pumped out with too much work, the topic had no information to it (you didn’t understudy it) and you forced its hand into whatever this was.
Billy Martin worked for the Red$kins?
NFL version of Rudy
Gad Zukes!
