- As Koosha said it best, the key to acceptance is understanding and the key to understanding is education. Through reflecting and analyzing his own personal experience, Koosha aims to conceptualize social constructs that hold young boys back from self acceptance. Koosha Nouri is a 20-year-old Iranian American from Oakland, California. As a communication studies major, Koosha loves analyzing societal trends and social practices that ultimately shape our culture. Koosha is currently a research assistant for the UCSB department of communication, and is analyzing mainstream media coverage of Immigration and the cognitive/physiological response of individuals who consume this media. Koosha’s love for communication research has led him to observe facets of his personal life to explore how society has shaped his personal identity and self perception. As an openly gay man, Koosha has applied his communication knowledge to analyze the effects that cultural attitudes surrounding heteronormativity have had on his journey of self discovery. Through reflecting and analyzing his own personal experience, Koosha aims to conceptualize social constructs that hold young boys back from self acceptance. Using heteronormativity to perpetuate discrimination is not OK, but there's nothing wrong with assuming everyone is straight until proven otherwise because the majority of all of humanity is straight. It's no more discriminatory than assuming everyone that has a house has a fridge in it by default at least if they're not extremely poor. The problem is when people start attaching value judgments to things. There is nothing wrong with being labeled as abnormal because abnormal just means outside of the norm, geniuses and prodigies are technically abnormal but nobody calls them that in the context that activists interpret the term.

Heteronormativity is healthy and valid, only haters resent and try to demonize heterosexuals.
Luckily, this speaker isn't doing that : )
Just to be clear: heteronormitivity is indeed fine. It's the norm, and that's okay. It's only not okay when somebody wants to be different from that norm and is punished when doing so.

Heterosexuality has always been considered normal whereas LGBTQ has not. Heteronormativity is the word that encapsulates that. No negative connotations are attached to being straight here, just a word to recognize our current society and how LGBTQ has a ways to go until they are also considered "normal" and not marginalized.

Hum... Actually, you don't! Doesn't really bother me, personally, if there isn't a new generation. Not all people are governed by basic drives. Also, respecting and including a minority doesn't make the majority obsolete... Realizing that not all people will be straight and making society open to that will make exactly no difference in how many people choose to reproduce.
